In a fantasy romance set in ancient times, the story features system-based transmigration with sweet yet tragic elements. The protagonist, Jiang Niannian, is fond of the beautiful yet tragic male supporting character named Yin Li, whose life is filled with misfortune.

He is unloved, abandoned by the female lead, and meets a miserable end.

Jiang Niannian declares, “Let go of my poor cub; I’ll take care of him!”

She then transmigrates into the story as Yin Li’s personal maid, binding herself to the sickly male supporting character rescue system.

Determined, she follows her own unique philosophy of “loving and doting on her beloved baby.”

But why does this precious good cub, whom she’s been nurturing with so much care, end up turning dark and twisted?

Just finished binge reading the entire 53 ch available.

The book is cut to black, but still so satisfying! Though I'm not one for "older teen girl raises younger teen boy like a son but he's never seen her that way and you Better believe she's gonna marry him or he'll have to turn full yandere..." trope, I didn't mind it that much here.

I love the translation. This isn't my first xianxia romance and I actually like how they keep things true to the book and just add a translation note.... more>> Thank you so much for all your hard work so far novellumina, please keep up the good work!

Can't wait to see all the foreshadowed story elements unfold! <<less

A cute and fun read, with dark yandere undertones. Translators are doing well at capturing the humour of the ridiculous character settings and cute yet deadly coal-ball tag along.

Spoiler

ur classic yandere "i wanna trap u so u can only be mine forever and ever"

Theres one time his descision to push FL away makes me irritated, like bruh u aint make any sense. But anw they resolved it pretty quick

[collapse]

Fl

Spoiler

her backstory gave me headache lmaoo then again maybe mtl just kinda sucks here, usually I can digest mtl but idk why this one makes my head hurts.

Major spoils

Anw I read thru mtl so take it with a grain of salt, maybe im wrong wrong but well idk—...

FL is the oldest tree? The path to heaven or sum like that, a few times mtl say shes the tiando (Heaven ruler) itself, anw stuff happend, she makes a clone (?) and the clone is tang murou (OG!FL) she thought this clone will give the world peace or whatever it is but when she came down the land, the land was full of fire and theres ML— alr blackned (idk if this is after OG!tl orr what....) anw FL take ML as her disciple, and ofc ML getting to attached to FL... ksksks

Stuff happend again, Tang Murou bcm ungreatful and want to bcm the only "path to heaven" and she killed FL whose alr weakend bc her divinity is gone (?) and then her soul was shattered, one of her soul go to the modern world the other one stay to inform the "current" FL everything that had happend.

Anw later she was killed again by....

Shen yu lol

Then ML will wait for 500yrs or so for her to comeback but suprise supriseee her memories Gone JAJSKSKSJSJSK

But dw, her amnesia arc was pretty quick and later they reunited, killed "The ruler of heaven" btw OG!FL alr been killed long ago at that point.

Dw ML will not get swayed by OG!FL, she has this main character syndrome so its annoying but her presence just so so, aint really makes my blood boil.

Anw yea, its an ok read

I started reading expecting a cute, mindless romance, but I couldn’t get past the plot holes in the first seven chapters.

  1. The fmc’s system rewards her based on her affection level with the mMC. Like many similar novels, the mMC is in an abusive situation and trusts no one, including the fMC. But in just the first six chapters, the fmc’s affection level goes from -55 to 30 simply by being nice and giving the 8-year-old mMC a peck on the cheek. First of all, the mMC has just been betrayed and abandoned by everyone he’s ever known and loved. How does two days of niceness suddenly make him trust her? Secondly, while it’s assumed the fMC kissed the mMC out of motherly affection, can someone really initiate such close intimacy with a stranger they’ve known for only two days? And do so naturally? Why would anyone think it’s okay to kiss a child (on the cheek) when there’s barely any trust between them? And why is the mMC accepting it so easily? This makes no sense.
  2. Even though the fMC transmigrated from a modern world to a cultivation world, she’s somehow able to use spiritual power perfectly, without hesitation or confusion. For example, as soon as she wakes up in her new body, she can inject spiritual power into a talisman to confront some cultivators bullying the mMC. Then, in the next few chapters, she magically grows from a Foundation Building cultivator to a Golden Core cultivator, thanks to rewards from her system. How does she instantly know how to use her new abilities? She’s also fearless when hunting beasts in the wild. Why would a modern city girl know anything about hunting, let alone be confident doing it in a world full of spiritual beasts? And somehow, she knows how to hide her presence when approaching said spiritual beast.
  3. The fMC can also recognize important people and things with just one look, even though she’s only learned about the world from a novel. I could understand if it was the mMC, since he was the focus of her feelings while reading the novel. But why is she able to immediately pinpoint that the beast cub mentioned earlier is the young version of a legendary beast, which is only described in its adult form in the novel? Especially since said beast is wounded and covered in blood.
  4. The fmc’s system rewards her points for every increase in affection with the mMC. These points can be exchanged for cultivation levels, items, beauty, and more. Forget the fact that her points are increasing at an insanely fast rate because of the mmc’s skyrocketing affection levels. Even when she doesn’t have enough points to buy what she needs, the fMC can borrow points on credit. And not in exchange for something steep, but by simply completing a dad joke/riddle the system gives her. What??? I dropped the novel as soon as she received the points.
This novel... more>> really doesn’t deserve such a high rating. Maybe the romance gets better later, but I can’t even begin to get immersed in the story because I keep tripping over all the plot holes. <<less

It's an okay story. I do agree with some points that previous reviewers mentioned. So let's start off with the progression of things; it was fast. Not 'too' fast for me to stop reading, but enough to have me cringe. The little boy instantly became clingy. I wish it was explained more logically as to why, but it was kind of the "this random maid that was neglectful to me is suddenly being nice, therefore she's mine."

I would like to compare this concept with another book called "The Yandere's... more>> Kiss Extends My Life." In this story, a woman is transmigrated into a book, arriving just in time to witness the neglected 2nd Male Lead's tragic childhood, similar to this book. The key aspect of THAT book is that she arrives around the same age as him, but before her transmigration, she mourned the loss of his character. She read his life story, detailing his ab*sive childhood to his disturbing, revolting adulthood and the villainous path he took. Thus, as she teleports into the book and becomes his next-door neighbor, hearing and seeing everything makes it clear why she feels the way she does towards him, and how her actions from now to years in the future make sense. This was established at the beginning, which brings me back to what I said earlier about THIS book: the progression was too fast for my liking.

Now, in this book, we did see some pushback from the neglected child, but he eventually let his guard down. The only reason I can think is that since he has already experienced "love", he knows it's out there but probably not directed towards him. That's an okay reasoning, it shows an insecurity which we need in characters, it's a flaw. It's also an excuse for why he became a yandere, but I digress for now.

I'm getting tired of typing, so I'll quicken it up. Next thing I know,
Spoiler

they were told to fake the Young ML's death and move to another sect- so they did. Then boom, 16 years pass... ML is no longer 7, he is now 23 years old, and guess what, he has feelings for the FL that raised him. Then you have the typical moments where the ML hides his feelings but still openly expresses his affection towards FL while the FL is oblivious. Eventually, ML took advantage of a situation to think the FL took his 'innocence' and told her she should take responsibility. So now their lovers..... well, that was anticlimactic.

[collapse]
This isn't the whole story, just a recap of their love story in a nutshell. I did get bored later down the line and DROPPED at chapter 77, it wasn't for no crazy reason, just felt like the gimmick of being a yandere worn off.

There were some side stories of couples happening, but I've noticed the pattern of it being male pairs. They like to call it 'cutting sleeves'. Although I don't mind, I do like to know what I'm getting myself into, and it threw me way off. I do like the brother, do I wish he were paired with another man other than the Spiritual beast named Coal Ball that only turns human if he consumes alot of energy, yes. But they're cute, I guess.

Overall, it was okay while it lasted. Do I recommend no, but if you want to read, go ahead. Nothing crazy or disturbing happens as far as I know. There is the original bratty FL,
Spoiler

and she gets called out all the time, so that takes away her halo effect. DO I wish she were more sneaky and vile to the point I want her to ROT, yes, but this one kind of gives childish.

I finished it in two days... It started off okay and then came in the distasteful parts of the plot.

  1. Age Gap

Initally read loved the first chapter because I'm all in for a good angsty villain/side character of a male lead novel with a female lead that shows her character. And then 5 or few chapters in, I see the translator's note talking about how in this type of settings, age gaps are usually ignored, which was icky at first but reading a comment about seperating reality from fictional and considering the setting I kept it in the back of my head as I read the novel, except I do wish the author made the FL younger (there would be mental age gap to consider too though depending on how the author uses this setting).

    Spoiler

It gets described some chapters later that FL looks about 20 years old and the ML looks about 7-8 years old.

    [collapse]

Now, that gave me the vibes that the FL was predatory and pedohiliac, despite the fact that she only considered him as a love interest when he became an adult (I do believe she'd denied considering him as one when one time, the system asked her to consider picking a reverse harem path and FL kept saying that ML was her kid or sth, I could be wrong though. Okay, she only liked him once he turned into an adult but it's weird how the author kept pushing the mothery role on FL, which was literally why she transmigrated according to the first few chapters
    Spoiler

past lives get involved and we find out that FL was previously the Heavenly Dao who's gone through reincarnation and one of her consiousness slipped through time and travelled to the modern world, where our current FL had read the novel and stanned the ML

    [collapse]
. The age gap and how she used to call him her 'cub' and raised him, and kept mentioning that she rasied him in some of her emotional dialogues in the later part of the novel, rubbed me off the wrong way because. There would be constant reminder of how FL had rasied ML and connecting with how now they are together, it just adds to the weirdness???
  2. Flow of the Plot

The timeskip to 16 years later so that the mutual love story can start was so abrupt, and BAM, we get hit with a wet dream from the ML about the FL. Author kept killing off people and did not give FL and ML proper character development to process grief because they be banging like Jungkook's one song.

Not sure if the author wanted to display ML being naive and showcasing his child-like nature by making him easliy trust a maid who had been bullying him, but him gettingn obessed with her was way too fast.
    Spoiler

We do get told that ML promises FL that in each life time he'd only have eyes for FL or sth and only like her immidately?? I cant rmb now.

    [collapse]

The plotholes be having holes until the end because was the system a part of the Heavenly Dao FL's consiousness? Where did it come from? Why did it have the ability to increase FL's power? Could all those materials be accumulated from her previous life? Some questions were left unanswered.

To be honest, I feel like this would have been a much enjoyable read had the author spent more time shaping the characters and adding more depth because the plot twists were unexpected and the connection of one thing to another was acutally surprsing but because I just wanted to get done and over with this novel and only skimmed though those details of the plot twists, I really cannot speak much on it.
  3. CPs

Multiple CPs - the older brother falling in love with the adopted sister (OG FL), Coalball (the beast that FL found in the woods wounded and decided to care for it) x ML's younger brother (OG ML) (Gay slay), disciple x master x2
    Spoiler

one being the gay couple and the other being ML and FL's past lives

    [collapse]
that's as far as I could rmb.
  4. The humor in this novel

That was the one of the only things that kept me going forward with the novel. To me, it was funny as shit. "The sword entering the sheath."
  5. Deaths

Don't get me wrong I love a good angst where I know for sure that the characters are gonna get revived (and sucessfully does it revived and we get to read about their story later) BUT too many people kept dying TVT.
    Spoiler

Yin Ci (OG ML) sacrifies himself to save FL and ML, the Master of the gay couple dies, the one rich fellow who was part of the OG reverse harem now turned current FL's harem, get involved in a plot twist that connects to other plot twists, dies, and the second male lead that I was rooting for, f*cks up and then dies

    [collapse]
. I'd say 90% got revived and had their happy endings and I am happy for them but my Shayla, my second ML... I guess it was deserved? I don't know.

You know that one fantasy where one would like their lovers to choose them over the world. Imagine being a bystander, just a passerby trying to go on with their daily life, and someone decided that world destruction was the only way to go because their lover just dropped dead, so the next thing you know, you're met with the doors of the underworld. ML destroyed this city that FL looked after and killed everyone else. And then, he drops dead too.
    Spoiler

We do find out later that he is actually the Emperor of the Underworld that even the Heavenly Dao FL feared, and he had made everyone who died in that city that FL took care of, immortal/second chance at life in the same city that has been rebuilt in the underworld (or was it in between the mortal and underworld where mortals could come in to visit their dead loved ones, can't remember)

    [collapse]
  6. Dog Food and Shit

I could not stand the dog food and the banging in every few chapters, had to skip em all after a while.

We all know ML is a yandere and he stays true to that title to the point I started questioning myself and my taste. I would eat this up if I were the same as few years back but I guess I kind of grew out of it a little bit so this type of yandare pisses me off.
    Spoiler

PAST LIVES FL was Ml's master. past life ML was so unrestrained that as a teenager, if I am not wrong since I fast fowarded some paragraphs, he already started pursuing FL. Things happens and they meet like a century or so later, this is when I should have stopped reading but curiosty got the best of me- everything just screamed stockholm syndrome??? You got to read it for youself, I cannot explain. And the underlying r*pe thing where ML forced himself on FL despite knowing stuff about the FL. The current FL got forced into the having skinship and continuing the relationship by the FL after ML lied that they had done it together and I do not think ML and ever told FL the truth about that night. FL also feared ML's love for her. She had trauma from her previous life being locked up in a cage by ML

    [collapse]
    I pitied the FL geniuely.
  7. Character Development

f*ck no. ML was a complex character to read and just turned out to be a shitty ML till the end who took advantage of FL's love for him
    Spoiler

literally getting mad at her for communicating with other males, holding her too tightly out of anger and bursing her, being a s*x maniac, and many shits I cannot remember

    [collapse]
. I love those heart aching plot where ML and FL have a have to leave each other for a reason and needs to hurt each other (okay that sounds f*cked up and it is but it is just that good because I know it's gonna be okay at the end) and a well-written plot just completes it, except this ain't one. Like yes, FL understood ML's intention and was more emotionally aware of stuff when ML wanted FL to back off for her safety and had used the plot of 'I am in love with someone else and I don't want you anymore', FL's way of getting back at him did not feel satisfying. Did FL match ML's freak? I don't think so, while they would both kill for each other and destroy the world, ML's freakiness was unmatched.
  8. The Ending

    Everyone gets their happy ending.
    Spoiler

Gay couples #1 Master x Disciple can finally be together after everything they went through. Gay couple #2 Beast x OG ML = CP was bland but it was a plot similar to childhood sweetheart but make it childhood pet. That one rich dude who inherited his family's wealth was seen walking together with the girl who looked similar to FL, you can think what you want but personally, it's like the subsitute plot here for me. The thing that pissed me off again was how ML isn't fit to be a dad. Literally. I thought that maybe speaking from experience of not having a proper father figure whilst growing up and being reminded of the way he turned out, the ML would work to be a better dad or at least try but no, all he cared was competing for FL's love and FL just let it be. For the love of God, it was his kid that he created with the love of his life, so giving the kid some love they need would not hinder FL's love for the ML but despite having a grown-ass body for centuries, ML could not comprehend it. Their kid later gets sent away for probably years by the ML just because the kid decided to act like a kid should and ask for his mother's attention which made the ML jealous. The audacity of this man to later justify sending the kid away, was of his own good. FL just accepts it

    [collapse]
    .

I spent over 2 hours on this TVT. This novel got me all riled up. Good night.

If you wanted a yandere and obsessed male lead, this is for you lol.

However, if you're uncomfortable with age gap (adult FL met young ML and basically raised him)... don't read. If you can separate reality, it can actually negligible due to setting wherein time/immortality is small factor.

FL (Jiang Niannian) was kind and decent heroine. Her system was really helpful but her mission immediately finished and most part were her focusing on her free will... ML was the major OP lol, he's too powerful, psycho and also co-dependent with FL... more>> in every lifetimes. He was toxic and crazy yandere but FL accepted his flaws.

The plot was decent but can be very violent and many casualties with some supporting characters being dumb or full of revenge in mind. There were also many hidden identities and plot twists (that sometimes some details became anti-climatic).

Also, there were some BL moments for supporting characters/couples.

Storyline Arcs:

Spoiler

- ARC 1: Chapter 1-124 (FL being transmigrated in "supposedly" novel as maid of ML who was villain who had tragic ending)

- ARC 2: Chapter 125-142 (Past life with FL being Heavenly Dao going down the mortal realm and taking ML as her disciple... wherein after years, ML turned yandere and caged her)

- ARC 3: Chapter 143 - 169 (500 years from 1st arc after FL's death, and now reincarnation)

- Extra: half of 169

(Extra 1-3- Sixteen Years in the Guiyuan Formation, time when FL took care of ML and away from Rimuli Sect

Extra 4 - After their kid ascended and leisurely living at human realm

Extra 5 - Wen Shili x Jang Ziyou

Extra 6 - Yin Ci x Coal Ball)
