As other reviewers said, this mostly focused on FL's high school journey. It has a good premise in the beginning... but became boring later on. I even skipped from chp259 to chp404 but it only got minor changes that I can still understood the story despite skipping many chaps. The ending is quite satisfactory tho.

Su Xingchen (FL) has good and straighforward attitude but she's too OP and Mary Sue that contributed to the boringness. It feels like cheat when seeing other students who worked harder in the novel.

Her biological family... more>> is worst, but I'm glad that she didn't waste her time for revenge... she only treated them as strangers which means no evil schemes, etc. They got the result of their selfish upbringing in last tho.

The relationship between Su Xingchen and Cheng Kao Yang (ML) is really cute. The downside was there is certain unbalanceness as a couple wherein I feel that the ML is the one who only in-love in their relationship. The Shā mâ tès also added good in the plot.

I also confused on the author bc FL is like "Jack of All Trades"... wanting FL to be cultivator, martial artist, businesswoman, popular celeb, successful pharmacist, Math champion, school topper, etc. <<less

I don't know if I should hate it or love this story..

From the tittle, you wouldn't really get the story. This is a stort about learning, bad family, youth, romance, fluff, angst. So many things, all at once.

The characters, are interesting. Mainly Father Su, and the teachers.

Spoiler

The only thing that irritates me was how our Xingchen didn't open up to her aunt's family even after all this time. And it's a pity too that her father never got to be enlightened about how Xingchen really felt. Ahh.. How I wish that Su Father was slapped with the reality of how bad their Su family treated our Xingchen when all they could think was how kind they are after throwing her away and almost never remember her just for the fact that they gave her a place to live *her sister's bedroom where she couldn't touch anything other than her own folded bed*, giving her clothes *that has been used by her sister, including underwears*, and tuition for school *for only one semester*.

Damn, I'm so angry.

[collapse]

Let's not talk about our non-mainstream ML or I'll be squealing because of his fluffiness.
Spoiler

He is our MC's classmate, her ex-boyfriend, her deskmate, and Emperor Shamate. But also the very first person that give our MC the warmth she was lacking from her first live. He works so damn hard to catch up with her, spoiling her, and being so damn cute all throughout the story.

[collapse]

I cried, laughed and get angry as I read this story.

At first, the pace is only moderate, but close to the end, the story is too fast-paced and the ending seems rushed. And there are many repetition on useless description. So, I deduct 0.5 from it 👍🏻

Anyhow, I recommend you to give this book a try. <<less

Wanted to begin with saying the translators did an amazing job!

*Long review*

Now, if you want to read almost 500 chapters of another person's perspective of the MCs life, with almost no thoughts or ambitions from the MC. This is your story.

The MC was honestly Mary Sue, and I knew more about ... more>>

than Xingchen.

Pros

Spoiler

It's literally just Cheng Kangyao.

[collapse]

Cons

Spoiler

Over 400 chapters is purely about high school and competitions to the point of boredom. The rest tried to clutch on fast paced drama about anyone but the FL & ML until the last five chapters after 30 chapters on everyone else.

2. The romance is genuinely non-existent. The ML, Cheng Kangyao, initiates EVERY interaction. He's the only reason I kept reading, but he professed his love through actions and beat back every interloper; meanwhile, Xingchen couldn't be bothered to say a word or be clear in her rejections. She's ancient and she doesn't know when a guy is BLATANTLY hitting on her? Uh huh... Xingchen spends YEARS putting Kangyao on the back burner of existence, while he cuts out time to see her. I honestly don't think she liked him, and only liked that he fell over himself to be at her beck and call.

3. The repetition of EVERY competition being the same made me wish for the netizens to be forcefully thrown out of this story. I couldn't care LESS about haters and bitter people.

4. Lack of development for everyone except Kangyao a bit, Zhang Wenqi -the HS extra, Chubby (who got almost no screentime but had a dramatic personality shift), and Xingyang (loveable brother). Kangyao changed from wanting his family together to just living for Xingchen. Wenqi started to love herself, but I think the author exhausted itself on positive women with growth on her and Chubby. Xingyang coming out as gay and cutting the family off??? Everything I ever needed. Finding out why he's gay? Oof.

5. The whole Su family? Wished to have seen less of them all. I knew more about their thoughts and actions than ice block Xingchen and lost puppy Kangyao.

Spoiler

Xingchen is a boring character, and the only saving grace was Kangyao and some extras.

3.5 Stars

Overall

Honestly, the extra point 5 star is purely for Kangyao, I think my favourite ML ever? By the end, I was sticking through just to read more of their love. Too bad there really isn't much. But what we do get is so very sweet. The guy is absolutely adorable and all his thoughts and actions are ridiculously cute. The use of emojis with him in the text is brilliant in bringing to life his cuteness.

Okay, for everything else. The beginning was actually not bad, the premise was interesting.... more>> I love how it gave a chance for the ML to show off his good traits to us. It was pretty good until the showbiz part where I was completely uninterested. Because the MC did not work hard at all (at least not shown to us), has zero interest in showbiz and has no plans to be in this industry, I also have zero interest in it. I don't understand why the author put so much detail into it. Not the MC's hard work to be in it (because she's automatically amazing in everything) but the industry details and every single netizen comment which are repetitive and boring.

I enjoyed the studying part at the beginning, where she had to work hard to improve her scores in her first year and part way through her second year. But after she got into the maths quiz thing, all the school-related stuff got boring and dry because we don't get what she is studying really. The author just throws around all the titles of what she is doing but I don't understand so it's just a blur. It's also a bit stale with the netizens commenting on every exam and stuff. It's just taking up so much text that I will have to scroll down to skim.

The cultivation part, I thought was an interesting thing to add to a second chance modern world story. If used properly, it could spice things up. But this was really only prominent at the beginning when the MC was worrying about her livelihood and her goals and how she, as a minor, could achieve it. After that, it was only at the end where there was zero detail and only a third-party narration on her life and achievements.

Basically, I agree with all the previous reviews.

Writing/Translation

The translation I read is from wordrain69. The flow is sometimes not smooth. It can feel like I missed a connection from one part to another. And sometimes it almost feels like the chapters are messed up? But none of the commenters for each chapter complained so maybe I just didn't get the sequence of events properly. Like the character left the room and in the next chapter, the character is in the room, like did I miss this character coming back in? Or was the character that went out a different one and I confused them? There are a few parts like this for me. Also, later on, there are lots of quick POV changes that seem like a side tangent to the current scene which is unnecessary and long. But generally, the translation is pretty understandable and consistent.

Pacing

It felt like it was getting more summed up near the 2nd half of the story. And from the last 100 chapters, you don't read from the Mc's pov anymore. You hardly get her in the scene except as a paragraph. Everything else is just other people's pov commenting on her actions or her family worrying about her actions and then the results come out and the tune changes. It feels like the author has alrd shown the various scenes in the MC and the ML's pov previously, so there is no need to show them again. Instead, the author decides to show random people's pov on the MC when that is the most boring part.

Plot

We follow 3 years of the MC's high school, then very quickly into her university life until her death. The first year is quite engaging and detailed, the 2nd is similar with less interesting conflict, then the third year was kinda dry about all the competitions and side characters of other students I don't care about and the university where she sets up her laboratory... but it wasn't detailed like in her first year X (.

Themes/What Story Tried to Achieve

There are 3 main things the author focuses on. Cultivation as the MC's goal in life, school as her professional legit way to achieve her goal and showbiz as the capital to achieve her goal. The cultivation is there but not really detailed after the start. But it is the driving force of all the MC's decision-making.

The school part at the beginning was also interesting because we followed her from almost zero. She has to do lots of stuff to get good. Sure, it got dry at the maths competitions but it's still low key nice to see her succeed. I only dislike that we get he good old, ohhh she has a photographic memory and high cultivation, so she absorbs everything like a sponge no matter what! Wow how amazing!

The showbiz is where I really didn't like it because she was good at it all without seeming to need to work for it. Everything in this part is contributed to "luck" *rolls eyes* That's the most boring reason for me as the reader to read about. We don't even get a target amount of money she needs to save for anything. If that was given, I could at least get that feeling of accomplishment whenever any of her showbiz stuff earns money because it would mean that she is getting closer to her goal. Sigh

Characters

The MC was interesting and made me sympathetic towards her at the beginning. Then, she got so OP later on that it was quite stale. After awhile, we don't get her personal feelings anymore because everything gets narrated by side characters.

The ML, Kangyao, is the best effing thing in this story! He's cute and ridiculously sincere in the most shy teenager way. This was one of the very few web novels where I could really feel and root for the love! The other one I felt so much for the ML's love was in Bai Su Mei of the 70s.

The side characters are actually distinct and aren't just there as roles needed for the story. They all have their own circumstances, opinions and worries. They feel real even if they don't have much screentime as the main characters. I like the couple's friends haha.

Just to comment for this novel, I made an account! The novel wasn't the best but very refreshing in my opinion! Specifically the MALE LEAD! He was s*upidLY CUTE! I came to love him soooo muuuch! And I cannoth fathom the way the novel ended but I truly understand! The way MC treated her family after reborn is something I truly support since she has the ability to financially support herself especially that at the end of the novel, there were no reflection or whatsoever of 'that' family especially his... more>> father, truly audacious one.

When I started reading the novel, I truly hope it was green haired guy (which I forgot the name! IM SORRY ML HUHU). I was starting to love him, from his gestures and thoughts for the MC that made me actually wish somebody does it to me too! (VERY IMPOSSIBLE)

He is ONE OF THE REASON why I got to the end of the novel and I'm pretty lost right now as I just finished it. I invested too muuuch feelings huhu and I feel like crying! For real!

And I give thanks to the translator for translating this novel! It is truly one of the loveliest novels I've read so far! Keep it up! <<less

I liked this.

MC is mature enough to see thru gestures just made for show. She is not interested in saving or giving face, and just puts herself for number 1 priority. Pretty rare in web novels to see a female protagonist that is actually free and badass, instead of being said to be badass but actually being damsel in distress and needing a man to do things for her.

This novel made me cry a lot, I still hate her family greatly, and although her feeling numb towards their bad treatment makes it easier for her to get through it I still found so heartbreaking that she couldn’t let out her feelings.

overall great novel, the MC is super cold (no one can blame her though), but she still didn’t avoid the ML, she accepted him and accepted his approach, this made me super happy for her.

It's umm. Different. I binge read it for 3days it's not tiresome to read. Our ML is just too lovable and adorable. He should be the national treasure. I think I want to see more, there is something missing like make the MC do a bit more for our ml, like that. I mean at least for once don't be passive.

What can I say? I have mixed feelings towards this novel. MC is just cold and I cannot feel any emotions from her. Romance is one-sided from ML. She had good feelings towards ML but I never felt she loved him. To her cultivation was always the most important. But to ML she is everything so it kinda feels imbalanced. She agreed to marry ML but it wasn't anything special to her only to ML.

The author feels like an amateur. Writing is all over the place. Scenes are repetitive. School... more>> life is over 80% but bland. This novel is like written from 3rd person perspective and everything is just how others see and think about MC and sometimes MLs thoughts. We don't get to see much from MCs POV. So it was okay. But I still rated it 5 stars because I enjoyed reading it bcoz I was really bored. Buty actual rating compared to my other 5 star novels this is just 2.5/5. <<less

The first 460 chapters, the pace was so slow. After MC's rebirth, she didn't instantly got into the top but she proceeded bit by bit until she became a legend. I actually enjoy her progress and unconsciously cheered for her along the way. But unfortunately after 460 chapters, the pace became way too fast and seemed so rushed. Suddenly she graduated from university, suddenly she became a well known medical scientist, suddenly she launched a skin care product, etc.

And the ending, ugh, I feel so angry everytime I think about... more>> it.

Spoiler

No, I'm not angry over the fact that ML died at his old age and MC became an immortal by herself. Actually, it made sense why MC didn't teach ML cultivation. They weren't in Xianxia world and qi needed for cultivation was scarce. Even MC had difficulty with her own cultivation. Also, ML's body didn't necessarily suitable to cultivate as he were not from Xianxia world. And maybe MC knew that someday they will meet again in another world and at that time, he too will become an immortal.

But still, what happened with MC's daughter? She was only mentioned once and then no more.

Ok, now we're back to the reason why I'm angry with the ending. It was none other than MC's family. I really hope that after all the things that happened with MC, Su Xingyue, and Su Xingyang, Su family will finally see the light and repent themselves. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. They still didn't think their action were wrong. Even if Grandma Su and Mother Su scolded and beaten MC in the past, Father Su thought it was their right as her elder to "educate" her. But why did they only beat MC and not her sister or brother? Of course because they were biased. They despised her because she was from countryside but they forgot that it was them who threw her away to countryside.

When she finally came back to Su family, they treated her like servant. They didn't give her a decent room to live and only gave her secondhand things from her sister. Fortunately, they didn't neglect her education but still she received less from her sister/brother. When she was obedient, she was scolded. When she rebelled, they scolded her more. When she finally changed for the better, she was still scolded. And Father Su actually just told her to bear it for the sake of family's peace. What a sc*m parent. MC finally couldn't bear it anymore and ran away from home. She earned her own money and lived independently away from Su family. She refused to come back again even for New Year festival. Because of it, Father Su blamed her for being vengeful and not sensible. What an utter rubbish.

Su family didn't even realize that they also left a deep trauma in their favorite grandson/son, Su Xingyang. Because how his grandmother, mother, and Su Xingyue behaved, Su Xingyang was really afraid to have any relationship with woman, let alone get married. He was afraid that his wife will be like his grandmother, mother, and Su Xingyue. Eventually, he fell in love with a man. How could a traditional family like Su family could accept it?

As for Su Xingyue, I still hate her for how she treated MC all her life. But the author actually decided to give her a quite good ending. Although she was divorced and couldn't get pregnant again, she still had a daughter and because of Su Xingyang's matter, she could inherit her family's business. I don't mind her ending if she repented herself and apologized to MC but she clearly didn't do it so I don't think Su Xingyue deserved this ending.

I didn't expect much when I started reading this and oh boy... I found myself crying after a couple of chapters in.

This novel was full of angst and family drama. Not much face slapping as our MC and ML were very good tempered persons.

The overall focus of the story was on achieving the MC's dreams and attaining immortality. You get fed with dog food now and then but the romantic development was quite subtle.

I just wish the MC could've taught the ML how to cultivate so he could accompany her... more>> in life longer.

I'd like to thank the efforts and hardwork of the translation team at wordrain. I must admit I was confused with the translations most of the time but you'll understand the context.

Neverthess, I was confused with how it ended. I'm not sure if the whole story was just a dream that the MC needs to overcome in order to reach immortality after she transmigrated into the cultivation world. Coz that's how it looked to me.

Or that there was a parallel world where the MC didn't die and became a chief scientist in another company but still got married to the ML.

Well... the last chapter made me confused instead of finding closure. Still Im rating it 5 stars for keeping me hooked and entertained throughout story. <<less

Great novel. I really like the romance. ML is super refreshing and is different from the cold boss/overbearing ML type. I was kinda surprised when I started reading cuz I don’t usually see this type of ML but I think its also a big reason y I really like the novel.

I really liked this story and it was a fun journey to read. I think the translator was pretty decent though there were a few mistakes (mostly names) here and there. At the first the translation was kind of butchy compare other novels I've read but they got better along the way. The FL is your typical dominating lead where she gains a advantages over of theres but the ML is a bit different than the usually domineering type.... more>>
Spoiler

I really like how you couldn't tell it was him at first and how he supported the FL all the time along the way. While he is rich with a few connections (his uncle and the tutors), he's actually lacking in power compare FL but that doesn't deter him. He even properly chases the FL which is really cute and heartwarming. The ending was a little bland (most justice for the brother) but it was also kind of expected based the the FL's original priorities. Even though there's that thousand year gap I'm glad she goes end up reuniting with main lead! Despite what others say, I think it was a cool take that she didn't necessarily give up everything for love. She still reunites with so it shows that he did make end up being a huge place in her heart.

. While there is a lot of dog food I wouldn't say romance is the main focus but it definitely is there. 7/10 I would recommend

edit: also wanted to add. Her parents are pretty shitty til the end. Like I had some sympathy for the dad because he was "trying" but
Spoiler

once he just listened to the grandma to not pay the tuition, he became tr*shy in my eyes. He's the equivalents of "nice guys" not realizing why girls don't like them. Even if he seem like he still liked her, he was so controlling yet lacked control over all the other members who basically ab*sed her.

For me, the story is okay to read, it's count as light-read and you don't have to use your brain to guess what will happen next and such. But the plot sometimes inconsistent, for example, it often describe the characters height, but sometimes the height keep changing, luckily there are no such mistakes for the ML & FL. Besides, like the other reviewers have said... The plot is too slow and repeated many times, I mean OF COURSE the story is in line with the title which is school toppers,... more>> but do you really have to make two thirds of the story telling about it? Thankfully, the las one third of the storyline have a fast plot, so I don't have to skim read anymore (yes, I do skim a lot to skip 'unnecessary' detailed school/exam oriented plot, and go to the results only).

There are no detailed description or follow up about the romance, like how it's developed for the FL and such (I mean the ML is clearly describe to be deeply in love with the FL till he's blind LOL). But the thing is, in my opinion, with the characteristics of FL, it is reasonable that the romance become somehow... platonic. And ML is the sweetest character I ever read!! It's no wonder the FL got subdued by his sincerity and care, or else she would just be a s*um (ehem).

One of my regret is about the relationship of FL and his biological brother (yangyang). I kinda hope for their relationship to get better, like in the future. He one of and the only one (in my opinion) who really care for her, got happy for her, the only 'family' who doesn't force nor bully her. I kinda hoping to see these two to have a real siblings relationship, become close, and support each other, especially at the end of story when both of them finally get out from that messy family (fiuh). <<less

This is the first novel with a Female Protagonist I have read and it was worth it. It really wasn't what I expected but nevertheless was really entertaining. I don't know if I would read another novel like this one unless the ML is like Green Hat Kangyao.

On another note the story was too redundant, often overexplaining stuff I mean a lot. But even then I enjoyed reading this one, just skip some paragraphs every now and then.

This was a good read and was different from my expectations. Other reviews talked about how the male lead wasn’t as cool as they expected, but I found him super cute. He was my favorite character. He is definitely more realistic than usual C-novel domineering male leads who are super powerful and have the whole world at their fingertips. Instead he is madly in love with the FL and shows her the warmth that she lacked in her life. He does his best to become someone worthy of her and... more>> is always taking care of her. The only part that made me sad was how I felt that she never loved him as much as he loved her. He remembers all the little things about her and does his best to make her happy. The novel portrays his love for her so well and it is super heartwarming. On the other hand, although the FL does state that the ML is the only person who could ever make her feel something, her personality is very aloof. There are some nice sweet moments but I wanted to see a more passionate romance. But, I do think this wouldn’t suit her set personality and her coldness came from her life as a cultivator. The ending also left me feeling a little unsatisfied. Despite some problems, I’m still giving this novel 5 stars and recommend it :) ! <<less

This story was originally good, with an okay plot but the translations started to change from chapter 80 or maybe that's my feeling, I just couldn't continue to read the story anymore, the way it's written it makes the plot boring 90%. Maybe it is not the translator's fault, I say this cause the author narrates to third perspective MOST OF THE TIMES, which makes the story flat and robotic with many details, that it feels like it's written by a teenage writer.

I don't recommend it but if you are... more>> ok with the 3rd perspective's author most of the time..., and a slice of life, slow romance plus supernatural novel. <<less

The story is good, the concept is good. I really enjoy the fact that for once, the childhood friend seems to be ML and he's growing with her.

The one caveat, that is making me look forward to this story being done, is that the author seems to think the readers suffers from (very) short term memory loss. Any time a concept is mentioned (ie. Her phone, Mr. Ke, the sha ma te's, the ML, etc) it MUST come with a introductory paragraph, even if this is the 500th time this... more>> is mentioned in the novel.

For example, every time her phone is mentioned, it must be accompanied by a couple sentences explaining either that it's old and has basically zero functionality (and why), or that it's new now but she still doesn't care so she doesn't use the new functionality (and why). Every. Single. Time. Even if the last time this was mentioned was like three paragraphs ago.

And this continuous repetition of explanations happens for literally everything. I don't know if the author trying to pad out the word count or what but this, combined with the fact that the translated chapters are chopped up (so two/three translated chapters per real one) means that sometimes for the space of like ten chapters, the book will just revolve around itself re-explaining the same concepts over and over (in different words) without the story moving forward at all.

I haven't dropped it yet, it's still an enjoyable story, but I really wish the writing could've been improved. <<less
