I'm liking the novel quite good the ML is such a sweetheart I Wish I could have meet someone like him in my life anyway the FL is okay! But one thing I hate is her family not the brother (at least now) I wish that nobody gets this kind of family ever in their life which actually happens in real life but other than that I'm enjoying this novel

I really liked this novel in the beginning but as it went on it started feeling boring. The MC is really smart but she doesn´t have any common sense unless it´s a plot point and the author needs her to be smart. I didn´t like the ML at all at first but as I got to know him better I think he´s cute, I do think it´s a little weird that the MC likes him though. I guess what I´m trying to say is that I wish the story was... more>> more logical but even though it´s not it´s okay if you can bear with a few parts. <<less

well, I was expecting a little more action and cultivation in a story with a xuanhuan label but this doesn't have much. I naively thought this would be more like other return to modern world cultivation stories where high school only lasts for about 100 chapters and then the story moves on at a nice pace but not so much here. It's a lot of school life and the author goes into excruciating detail about studying and tests and more tests and some more studying. Interspersed with the very occasional... more>> misunderstanding by the ML, condemnation by fellow classmates, showbiz stuff, or sports. It takes about 400 chapters to go from first year high school to college. And like all modern Chinese novels it's full of propaganda, hyper nationalism, and competitions where China always wins and the whole country celebrates.

and the family. If this family situation happened in my country the school would call social services and the MC would have been removed and parents possibly put in jail for neglect and child ab*se
Spoiler

. The women in the family are terrible and ugly with it and the men are spineless. I don't agree that she treats her dad badly. She treats him exactly the way he has treated her for the past four years; he might not have been the ab*ser but he did enable the situation and allowed it to continue. The brother wants to help but hes just as cowardly as his father, afraid of mom and sister and grandma. Inaction is a choice as well. Even the aunt and uncle who raised her are complicit, telling her to just smile and obey no matter how bad they are just because they're blood kin. I will never understand or forgive that kind of permissive attitude towards ab*sers and I think she's smart to want to stay as far away from all of them as possible. Some mental and emotional wounds and trauma will never fully heal, especially those caused by family. Just because her dad wakes up one day and sort of starts feeling guilty, that doesn't automatically mean she should forgive and forget. No way.

[collapse]

over all this isn't as bad as I thought it would be when I first read that instead of creating pills with her alchemy she was creating makeup and skin care products. I was confused about some of her choices and the end was more of a summery than a real ending but OK, whatever. A decent read though lacking as a xuanhuan novel. <<less

In a nutshell: School slice of life and cultivation novel. I'd rate 4.5 😊.

This is a niche novel. If you're not into cultivation and slice of life novels, you'd most probably not like this. It's slow paced and author's meticulous in story telling.

I feel that altho it's a cultivation novel it was actually quite realistic. The author took a great deal of explaining why she was so OP in her studies and other skills (it's because she was cultivating).

Spoiler

It was explained the reason why FL's so good with her studies was because of all her self-study when she was cultivating. She's able to concentrate more and perceive things easily.

[collapse]

I appreciate the author steadily building her up. Her school life and how she topped her field was in full detail in this novel. People keep forgetting the plot and title of this novel. 😅 Although reiterative, author stays true to the title. It's long (for sure "steadily building") that's why I really don't recommend if you're not into this because you'd find it boring as evidenced by the low raters 😑.

Filled with a bit of drama mostly about her annoying family (whom I hate to death). I like that characters have their own unique characteristics (hmm but prolly a bit 2D) but it was fascinating to see the extremes in raising family in a Chinese setting. Honestly, you don't see much of character building in the FL or other characters. Skills-building, yes, but EQ not so much. She's really cold. Thats why the ML is so cute and good and all the little things he does look so sweet. ML's probably in my top 10 list. Not enough snu snu. It was going great for a quite awhile but in the later chapters, it got bungled tho

Overall: It's a good novel to sink yourself into. As I've said this is a niche novel, not to dissuade some but you could only enjoy it if you're into school slice of life and cultivation. 😅 <<less

Score: 2.5/5 (that too for the language and a good paced-story but it was was not fulfilling because of the end)

Su Xingchen x Cheng Kangyao

Good flow, logical, not so romantic, strong and low eq MC

(Don't read the spoiler it's basically the summary of the whole novel) It is more or less the... more>> life journey of Su Xingchen
Spoiler

and how she suffered in her first life, then got transmigrated and cultivated till foundation phase and then got back to her original world as a high school student. She ignored her family, got good grades, became a scientist, opened her own cosmetic company, got a childhood sweetheart as a husband, the husband died, she became an immortal after thousand years of practice.

[collapse]

Not so fulfilling as there are basically no emotional ups and downs (NO DRAMA GUYS!). The MC is cold and doesn't contribute much to the emotional attachment. It's like viewing her life story from a third-person perspective and it gets boring with time.

I read till ch 300 in anticipation of at least one good romantic or emotional part and the remaining 200 ch because I had already spent my energy reading till 300! <<less

weird ending but okay,

felt like the FL didnt love the ML as strongly as he loved her... but I guess real life is like that...

wish the ending was explained better, but the overall novel was pretty good, just a tale of a cultivating girl who wanted to change her miserable past life experiences and escape her toxic family cycle

Never in my life have I more wanted a web novel to have extra chapters.

I ate so much, so much dog food reading this novel. The male lead is actually such a sweet heart to the main character.

There's no dumb villain and useless, repetitive face slapping in this story. Rather, the main character face slaps everyone who treated her badly by ignoring them, showing them how meaningless they are to her by not paying them any heed, and being successful in her own life. The best revenge is your own... more>> happiness! I really felt cathartic reading Su Xingchen's successes.

It's been mentioned before, but the side characters are great and each character has complex relationships. I actually wish they had some more screen time. (My bae Shen Jinghong, I love her)

There's a lot of studying, test taking, math, etc. Going on in this story. I'm personally a bit of a nerdy student, but it was written so entertainingly that I thought that the main character being successful in this school stuff felt really cool and awesome.

I don't write many reviews, so I guess that this probably feels a bit incomprehensible. But, what can I say but that I loved this series? (Many thanks to the author and translator who helped allow me to read this awesome web novel :DDD) <<less

First of all, there's barely any cultivation in the novel. FL isn't really too OP, but she is stronger due to her cultivation (which wasn't too much, but compared to mortals it gave her a lot of benefits). Second, her family is very dysfunctional. I can't blame her for wanting to ostracize her family. I just wished she gave them a HUGE face slap. That's what this novel needs! Also, while this novel captivates you on her journey, there's really no romance or character growth besides increasing her ranking in... more>> school. <<less

Interesting, based on the title I expected an aggressive school martial-arts face-slapping charade, but instead I got a sad, heart-warming and comedic school and coming-of-age story, sprinkled with bits of cultivation and becoming-an-idol-star parts. I really like it.

The author is very good at observation and all the people are written superbly. I only wished the pace was a bit faster and less focused on grades and learning.. Still, it reminds me of Harry Potter, just with chinese socialist ideals and with less action.

If you need to relax, this is a... more>> 5* read. <<less

Mm in the beginning it wasn't bad, my main worry with these types of stories is that MC is too powerful and Mary Sue. For most of the story, that wasn't the problem here; we saw her sufferings and the way others treated her, and we saw her hard work to rise in her school ranking little by little. I also liked how some of the characters in the story aren't one-dimensional, like the father. Sometimes I don't know how to feel about him; he's trying now, but if the... more>> other party has already buried the scars and doesn't need your acceptance anymore, I have nothing to say. If he only woke up a little earlier, before she transmigrated when her heart was still tender and desperate for affection, I wonder what would've happened instead.

Spoiler

Just the fact that she literally ran away from home in her school uniform and didn't come back because she didn't even have anything else to take; a rich family raised up this daughter with only two sets of clothes and nobody noticed until it was too late.

[collapse]

I also liked that the ML in this story isn't the cool indifferent super smart prince, but rather the leader of the silly delinquents who likes to fluff out his feathers like a peacock. He's childish and rebellious, however he genuinely cares for MC, worrying about her when she really didn't have anything else. In this story, MC truly grows up standing on her own two feet without relying on any OP ML at all.

However, halfway though it got too Mary Sue. Of course, if it continued about her studying, it probably would've been too boring. But she entered the entertainment industry and suddenly her super physique that lets her break athletic records come into play like ??? It felt like the story completely lost its focus; at the beginning it seemed it might go down the cultivation talismans and medicinal pills in the modern era + study god route, but then it became her physical abilities in the entertainment industry. Idk man. <<less

Our story stars with Su Xingchen, a cultivator who transmigrates back to her original world at the tender age of 16.

However, it isn't calm and dandy as her face is greeted with a harsh slap by her biological mother in front of various teachers.

And so our story begins with our FL solving the regrets of her "past life" and focusing on becoming a cultivator again.

... more>> The story plot does well with balancing the FL's goal, her family, and romance.

But as she is a student it mainly focuses on School: Studying, Exams, and competitions (ugh).

Nevertheless, despite how much it puts anxiety on a student like myself, the author does well on fleshing out the FL's patriarchal and stubborn family.

The FL's family is extremely toxic and it doesn't help that the FL is the middle child. The author writes stereotypical but also truthful Asian family tendencies that is prevalent along the FL's journey but as well could apply to any family: scolding, comparisons among children, controlling your child despite them being an adult, ect. Its very relatable.

Despite this, our MC has already grew past needing her parent's kinship, but through this tough time, the rebellious ML helps her the most.

The ML is very sweet and caring. Like a big puppy who barks at strangers. I think he is probably in my top ML's; very supportive, not overbearing, and very respectful. Its even more refreshing because he's chasing after our FL as in most Chinese stories, its the other way around (the male in the dominant position).

However, this story isnt without it's flaws; vague misunderstandings about who is who, doubts about the FL despite slapping them in the face over a dozen times, and the repetitiveness of the FL's school career.

Nonetheless, its a descent read to pass time, not too outstanding, but just right with being relevant in family matters and the stress of school.

As for the ending. I expected it, especially the big reveal about her brother.

4/5

Enjoi and Adieu!

P.S. Comedian Ronny Chien does well with making jokes about Asian family stereotypes. The FL's stubborn family reminded me of him ^^ <<less

READ IT! IT'S SO GOOD~

short review:

its cute, fun, relatable, and not like any other transmigrated novel i've personally read

... more>> long review:

at first I thought this will be similar with those other novels that i've read (where the MC got transmigrated ad gets to go back to his/her original world with a 'amazing cheat', and that there will be a ice cold emotionless and handsome/pretty lover and they will be a power couple or something) BUT DAMN I WAS WRONG! This novel is cute and different, yes there will be some annoying things in here (like the MC's family) but it helps the novel become more lively and emotional to read.

i particularly like the character development of some characters and and how relatable and close to real teenagers the characters are, especially the ML (at least I think he is) because ghad damn he is so cute and funny, he is not an OP ML from the beginning but was a rebellious teenager that slowly change because he wants to be with the MC.

i know some will be irritated and angry in the beginning because of the MC's family BUT BEAR WITH ME after you reach 40~50 chapters you will love it (at least for me it did) <<less

I don't like stories that involves cultivation that's why I was hesitant to read this at first although it's a modern day setting. But luckily I did because this is a gem.

I love the protagonists, seeing their growth from being a rebellious teen to being successful individuals. MC being the genius that she is, and ML being by her side throughout their whole life.

And if you would ask me who's my favorite character then I would answer the ML. He's not very smart like MC but he works hard to... more>> stand side by side with her. He's arrogant but he really treat those people that are good to him nicely.

I'm glad that the two became the support of each other when their families can't.

About MC's family, I hate them. Her grandma, mother, and sister who treated her badly and her father, brother, grandpa that acted like a bystander. <<less

... Wow. This author wrote with very little consistency. ... more>>
Spoiler

The timeline kept changing around. For example, she enters a new job during vacation only to suddenly go back to school for a bit before entering the job again. The time of year, school-year, and who is having a college entrance exam skip around so much that her entire 3rd year of high school seems to have been skipped. Background details of side characters keep changing. Chubby's parents were divorced with their own families, but later had a situation that nearly copied and pasted the ML's parent's situation (with an addition of an "adopted" brother, half-brother, and age gap). Some characters suddenly changed their life plans. One chapter Curly is determined to never return to his father's country. Barely more than a chapter later, he is the only one in the group going abroad for college. ML hides his green hair in front of her Aunt and Uncle and Cousins, causing him to not get recognized as her online CP partner. Years later their fam reminisces back to the time the "green haired boy" visited with her. Many many examples like this.

[collapse]

At some point, the author just gives up. They start explaining events from a third party perspective and inserting random nationalistic commentary. This happens around the time the main couple confirms their relationship, causing major parts of their interactions to be outright cut off or skipped. The translation was also not very clear, leading an already subpar exposition to be downright confusing. I don't want to dwell too much on the half-hearted twist called an ending, but here it is in case you are wondering if the 400+ chapters are worth it.

Spoiler

She has a baby in her 40s and the story ends with the ML dying of old age. The MC returns to the cultivation world and recalls that she was not the weak alchemist she thought. She had actually been in the cultivation world for 1000 years rather than 30. Everything that happens in the story from beginning to end is due to her heart demon. She likely entered her original world at that timing on her own initiative to solve her past life's regrets. Like she says not long before the end: The higher her cultivation the more perfectly she recalls her past. I say 'likely' because it is possible the entire story was merely an illusion. Regardless, she accepts her own heart and sends the ML's soul to reincarnate to a baby that she claims as soon as it is born.

I have soooooo many questions.

[collapse]

Overall, the development is not bad and I enjoyed many parts of the novel. Unfortunately, the author did not follow through for a strong finish to their work. The early plot is drawn out way too far while the late plot is much too rushed. Add on to that the original author's great need for an editor and you have a good premise that devolves into a hot mess. I think it might have still been okay if the main couple's family life, or what happens after the plot twist, got explored a little more. I rounded down my star rating due to the utter lack of satisfaction I felt in the final 50+ chapters. <<less

There's a lot of reviews of the novel, so I won't talk about it. I only say that I read it twice, and will probably read again.

I want to talk about the FL's father. When she left the family, he kept making efforts to bring her back, but she didn't agree. The environment of the family was not good, dominated by the old grandma and wife, oppressing FL her whole life. I kind of feel bad for the father, who only wanted to have a happy harmonious family at home.... more>> I see him as a sad hero, who worked hard all his life but didn't get family happiness. I don't blame him, because it's just what kind of person he was, with weak personality, and he left raising of his children to his mother and wife.

Still the FL saw his efforts, and didn't break off relations with him completely. But every time I think how he made a (small) room for her but she never lived in it, all his efforts in construction and renovation, it makes me want to cry a little. <<less

I enjoyed this novel. It tapped into the Chinese old school cultural issues of male supremacy and was a bit of a slap back to that but showcased a woman who after a miserable existence suffering under it turned into a marysue who was after an opportunity was able to stand up to it.

although the writer used some old plots it was done better than most the novels I read before, the characters are also interesting so although I was a little disappointed I still finished the novel. (I got a little surprised at the last chapter tho). It has good potentials could have been better, the writer should have given the other characters some screen time :) or try to create some new plot instead of the commonly used ones in the market. Another problem I don't know if it is the translator or the writer mistake, when I'm reading at some point the story suddenly change and go to another point, change the POV or timeline then suddenly continue from the previous point or go to anther which is a little confusing.

All in all it wasn't a bad experience. <<less
