Chi Qiong was the only surviving ancient divine phoenix in the heavens and earth, having slumbered for billions of years before being awakened by a mediocre spirit contract master named Yun Xiguang in modern times.

He discovered that the wings that once overshadowed the heavens had turned into tender little wings, and his once majestic figure that towered over ancient beasts had become a round, chubby, fluffy body that could be held in the palm of one’s hand—a mere fledgling.

Chi Qiong gazed sternly at the spirit contract master Yun Xiguang with his tiny, bean-like eyes:

“Human, become my spirit-servant; lend me thy aid to restore mine ancient power, and I shall grant thee ten thousand years of glory.”

However, when he opened his mouth, all that came out was: “Chirp, chirp, chirp!”

In order to show this ignorant human his might, Chi Qiong bestowed upon him a single phoenix feather.

Yun Xiguang picked up the downy feather that had fallen to the ground and sighed: “Sigh, the only spirit beast willing to respond to me is a little chick that sheds feathers. What else can I do? I’ll just have to dote on it.”

Please give this a chance! It's such an adorably pleasant read, I only wish that it was longer, I want more! (T ^ T)

I didn't expect anything clicking into it, but just reading the first chapter, I knew it was gonna be good. It was engaging to the point I didn't wanna engage with those last chapters at all since I knew the end was coming. It is of course not flawless but I don't care! (The heavenly laws might have deceived my perception lol). Please just read it... more>> to know what I'm sayingg!

Even though I usually like stories where a romantic line is more developed, I read this one with pleasure - I think it says a lot about how good it is. The plot is engaging, and characters are written well. I would love to read a bit more about MC and ML being together, but oh well, their interactions throughout the story are very endearing already.

Another interesting story from Cyan Wings who likes to mix things up with cultivation, myth, and science. Plus there's always a dash of humor in there.

I thought both the MC and the ML in the story were quite interesting. The MC, despite his tragic past and desire to find out what happened, does not let that define him and has a deep core of integrity and strength which is really cool. The ML has all the arrogance of a major deity but also cares about lives and it's new follower... more>> and doesn't see them as disposable.

This isn't the first time the author has discussed the idea of corruption of power but I thought it was one of the more novel approaches taken to the issue and pretty effective. Plus it came with a fluffy demanding phoenix chick.

Spoiler

The scene where the giant azure dragon shrinks itself to a little snake so the chick can stomp on it to express it's displeasure over "trying to steal it's follower" was great! All the spirit beast bow down to the fluffy yellow ball of cheep!

This is definitely worth trying out if you like modern day cultivation mash ups. <<less

Very good, very cute, I liked it.

A little simple but you know what, it did not detract from the enjoyment at all.

I would recommend reading this when you just need a nice, good, pleasant vibe from a book, with not too much in the way of plot and and MC and ML who are adorable together.

This is genuinely such an underrated novel and I hope there are more ratings and reviews for it as it deserves recognition and some perspectives that could add more life to it. It was clear that as I progressed a quarter a way reading this that the novel will end in some grand finale but it still fascinated me how the author decided to end the story. I rarely write any reviews so I apologise if it sounds confusing!

This author evidently tries to challenge themselves to write this story surrounding... more>> a theme (which was revealed at the end of the story) without detracting the humor and personality for most characters (or the more prominent ones at least) that comes to life. Of course, while surrounding the plot to this theme, some characters inevitably fall flatter where I wish they would develop better as it could add more dimensions to the story. However, these flat characters essentially served their purpose meaningfully for the progress of the plot.

Spoiler

take it with a grain of salt but I wish Hai Ruobo's role would have more depth as he is the spiritbond master for a beast that guards the confidential room. He barely have any background and character, which makes sense as he is the canon fodder but to have such high authority to access the confidential room, I believe he could have some potential. This goes the same for Gu Shoulu and Kong Haoming. Although the story focuses primarily on the protagonist and his team, I wish there are more dimensions to the antagonists as well. It would add a layer of complexity of the author's portrayal on the preservation of humanity in the villain's perspective too.

If you are expecting any lovey-dovey story then this is not for you. It is very plot centered but its romantic tension was enough to fuel me to look forward how it develops.
Spoiler

the development of Chi Qiong realising and growing his feelings for Yun is in a reasonable pace, I feel like they could have developed Yun's feelings for Chi Qiong better and could have may be put it in the extras how he grew to love Chi Qiong more and more rather than in rushed situation and he was like "uh... I guess we can try sure why not"

[collapse]

The worldbuilding in this novel have done very well and was easy to follow as each little component were explained. I have rarely find any worldbuilding with this much detailed explanations but this one helped me visualise the kind of world the author tries to portray.

Spoiler about Yun's character development and Chi Qiong:

Spoiler

I love Yun's independence and how he grows as a person to rely on others and seeing how he starts trusting the people around him to help him achieve his goal. I was abit worried that the novel would then diverge to Yun being too dependent on Chi Qiong's powers midway through the novel but Im glad I was wrong. He showed time over time that he is a strong person on his own through using his logical deductions (which are easy to follow) and that Chi Qiong's powers just enhances his basal capability.

Chi Qiong, though presented as a deity reverred by all, does not have the grating arrogance that some ML would have and showed that despite his noble and proud exterior, he is a compassionate bird/person who love the warmth of life. He loved it so much to the point he changed himself (Zhuzhao the orb to Chi Qiong the phoenix venerable) to fit in to the flawed world.
