The story takes places in a strange and mysterious rental apartment house. Each tenant has their own unique features, interests and fetishes.

The landlord is a useless bum who inherited the apartment house through sheer luck, in order to satisfy his own curiosity, he took on a set of unique personalities as tenants. He doesn’t want the hard-working well-behaved students, the office workers with steady incomes, or the simple families. He just wants “normal people” who fits certain criteria, has tendencies for abnormal behaviours, basically anyone who can satisfy his curiosity for the dark side of the human nature.

As result he ended up with a PE teacher with a record for domestic violence, a university student who is a gaming addict, a divorcee with his angelic little girl, a mysterious writer, a gay couple, and an eye-candy. Eight tenants and a pe*verted Landlord, six rooms and a bunch of secrets, the potential of our human nature made it impossible to predict how much more secrets each room held.

Bizarre is probably the best word to explain this novel. The landlord is a pe*vert, but he’s different from other LN pe*vert protagonist. It’s more to the mix of insanity and fetish rather than 'research' material. So let me just say this first. If you are looking for echi or light comedy, you won’t find any here. A very good (?) psychological thriller-horror story that will absolutely disgust you and yet intrigue you. Our MC is 'landlord' who stands on the moral high ground of being an "honorable" peeping tom who spies on people to see their true faces, installing multiple hidden cameras and microphones in his inherited apartment to spy on his tenants for his own enjoyment. Despite insisting that he's not like the usual pe*verts who peep for s*x and is instead peeping to watch 'human nature', he sees himself as a 'director' and proceeds... more>> to meddle with the lives of his tenants so that they will follow his "script". Cue one twisted story where landlord plays chess master and sets up all sorts of messed up scenarios for his tenants, except for the elusive, puzzling mu*derer: Ms. Yang Rui, who honestly does her own thing on the side rather than participating in landlord's schemes.

Plotwise there's not a lot of mystery since you follow landlord whose the one responsible for all of this, instead it's more of a thriller as the story slowly unravels what landlord's 'script' is and why he's doing the things he does along. Do note that this story was marked as fully translated but it's actually missing the epilogue, which is actually incredibly important and ties off the whole story and that it also differs from the movie adaption. As for the characters, firstly I would say this story isn't a story where the author is expecting you to like the MC or even any of the characters. Landlord is actually incredibly infuriating in his unreliable narration role; he sits on a high horse and gleefully sees himself as some philosophical criminal mastermind whose toying with a bunch of lab rats (except for Yang Rui, who scares him due to her killing sprees). He's disgusting, but just because you don't like landlord means that it's a bad story, just means you might need perseverance to keep going for the plot.

Would I recommend this story? Yes, if you like psychopathic MC's and explicitly want a true horror-thriller type novel. This isn't really the story where the readers are supposed to sympathize or like any of the characters, so do be warned that there is a chance you'll hate landlord; but if you want a dark story this will definitely hit the spot.

As I said before, the epilogue isn't translated yet and is actually very, very important. Thus; I'll give spoilers for it here if you've finished the previous 13 chapters but please note it was a little confusing so it might not be 100% correct:

So, who was our landlord anyways? Why did I say he was an unreliable narrator?

He's a lunatic who killed the real landlord, kept the body in the closet and proceeded to pretend to be the landlord's relative :)

In the epilogue, you find out he operated as the landlord for five years and is now in police custody as a suspect for several mu*ders. His tale of events is actually a recount to the police of what happened, but the police note that his story is partially impossible, hence the unreliable narrator part. In fact, Bai Yi and Old Zhang were found mu*dered in two separate locations before the story that 'landlord' was telling them could have happened and the pharmaceutical person Qin didn't exist. The police officer we follow notes that 'landlord' has his fingerprints melted off/destroyed, but also that one tenant, the mu*derer Yang Rui, has no physical evidence of even existing. Landlord is suspected of making up Yang Rui and is later put in prison. At home, officer finds that landlord's confessional journal (that landlord insisted he read) was snuck home in in his brief case and he proceeds to read it several times that night, finding himself ruminating on it's contents and unable to sleep. Later on, officer cuts a deal with a drug lord and sells out several undercover cops in exchange for a huge chunk of money that he uses to buy and refurbish an apartment building. After installing several hidden cameras and microphones, he watches his tenants under the guise of upholding justice and social reform. Who is also a tenant of this officer's building? The elusive Ms. Yang Rui, who walks into the view of the cameras with a new mu*der victim :)

pretty interesting (Sick, Bizzare, disturbing), a brilliant work.

A story about a landlord who inheret an apartment building which gave him a possibility/opportunity to satisfy his curiousity, ego, dream and fetish with his tenants as his chesspiece.

5.. Why? Simply because the story enable us. The ordinary person, to pry or take upon the shoes of a psychological CRIMINAL making us feel the equisite unique feel that the MC in the story feel.. It open up unknown possibility which somehow may show the complexity of the being called “Human”.

Hmm.

I felt dirty after reading this, but not in a sensual way. It's like I had all the vomit-inducing stuff poured all over me. I didn't puke or anything, but half-way up to the end of the novel I felt like I lost a part of my humanity; and that I lost faith in humanity as well. I've only read few urban horror novels, however among them this novel depicted inhumanity most vividly.

Objectively speaking, the novel was actually good because it managed to convey what I thought it wanted to... more>> convey which was the ugly, disgustingly ugly, side of humans. However, on a personal level I cannot approve of it. It made me question just how f*cked up of a mind do you have to be able to write something like this. In all of my reading experiences, I've never felt anger, horror and disgust at the same time until I read this.

P.S. If I see anyone in the forums looking for recommendations on a psycopath MC, I'll give them this, and hope they suffer too. <<less

Basically everyone living in this apartment complex has a screw lose

but the worst of the all is the landlod who spies and manipulates everyone!.....

..... and maybe that hanibal serial killer >.>

I am a sick person that likes to read pe*verted and disturbing things. Which is why I picked up this story because based on the reviews, it seemed to fit what I like.

Okay, what stopped me from reading is not the writing. The way the story is told is very engaging. I loved the unique characteristics of the characters. It satisfy the crazy in me to have a variety of twistedness to read about.

But I wish that the writer had done more research.

The serial mu*derer drugs her victim and does all sorts of things to his body. Things like drugging him constantly with sleeping pills and pumping water directly into his stomach, etc. This I can still accept because it is a work of fiction. I do not expect 100% accuracy.

But when it comes to injecting things into the blood stream, my mind just starts thinking about everything that is going wrong. Because I study about the human body, it is something I cannot help but be picky.

Like with an unhygienic needle, I started thinking about infection. Injecting milk and soy sauce into the blood, in my mind, I am thinking this man's cells are going to go crazy and he is going to die soon.

I want to give a lower rating because I don’t like 2 of the endings 2 of the characters got, but I can’t. This novel is crazy, but good. Don’t read this if you have a strong sense of justice or can’t accept cruel actions with no reason. I’m not good with reviews, but this novel is amazing.

~For a short read, was surprisingly shown character... growth? Hmm maybe corruption is better.

~Was descriptive enough that you would be able to understand well how the situation was.

~No info dumps, you learn little by little how each characters personality traits are.

~The ending is probably my fave part, if this was written about something else would've thought that's so wholesome, love that lighthearted moment, almost felt like I shouldve learned a lesson somehow.

I was interested at first but as I continue to read on, I am getting furious with the MC, he sees himself as the director or someone who could see a prophecy... He destroyed the lives of the tenants, he didn't even spare the little girl who is really innocent. That's why I only rate 1 star for this story.

This series is very worth reading. You can feel the emotions at play and all the character's are very interesting, I'm hyped up for the movie's finale I'm glad I started reading so far in to the translation.

Filthy and bizarre at the same time. The writing is clear and detailed, it blew my mind. A social experiment leading to drawing out the dark potential of the human mind. All natural behavior of a human described as crime and evil but again it is being human. I like the author's delivery of how the mind can go and do stuffs from repetition, a photocopy of someone to being unique. Human behaviors, being a serial killer, a peeping tom and sick fetishes are well written. You will crave for... more>> more chapters! Kudos to this novel! There's Mr. Wang and his daughter. This man is fvcking pe*o and lusts after his own daughter🤮🤮

Miss. Chen, a corporate worker, with two boyfriends🤡🤡

A homos*xual couple, Ling Hu and Guo Li😶‍🌫️😶‍🌫️

Old man Zhang with a kink of drinking expired milk🤢🤢

Bo Yan, a college student, with too much time on his hands (literally) 🙄🙄

And Ying Ru, the writer🤐🤐

Our prontagonist in his own words is a director and his tenants are the actors acting out his script. A great analogy my friend made was that the MC is the devil tempting the dark sides of his fellow dwellers continuously. And it really suits him. However, the MC himself possess all the dark qualities of his actors but does not act on it (at least all the way through).

The author did a brilliant job with this novel. The storyline, the suspense, the writing style- was spectacular🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻. I was constantly on the edge of my seat. The author made me afraid of the possibility of how dark it'd could have gone and how dark it'd go. Though, there's plenty of dark themes in here still. Mind you, there's violence, gore, disgusting description of every kind of human fluids. So be warned.

Would absolutely recommend! I'd like to read other works of this author. If I have the courage, I might as well check out the movie. <<less

I have been reading Asian webnovels since 2017. This is the darkest and most twisted story I have ever read from this site. R*pe, in*est, pe*ophilia, cannibalism, manipulation, gore, mutilation and what not - all combined into a 13 chapter long masterpiece. This is an extremely good story - I cannot recommend it enough. However, this is not for the faint hearted - if you get triggered by the tags, stay away. This story is more gruesome and extreme that anything else on this site with these same tags.

I applaud... more>> the author for coming up with a plot which is this dark and twisted, but something which makes it impossible for us to stop reading. No wonder it has been remade into such a popular movie. As someone who loves to write just as much as I read, I can only wish to one day come up with such a spine chilling plot. <<less

This is a huge breath of fresh air, I haven't read anything like that in years. The description doesn't make it justice, but that's for the better, as I wasn't prepared for what was inside. I admit I laughed too much while reading it, surely that's totally normal behavior :)

Unbelievably fascinating.

This is the story about a madman whose goal in life is to become a director and a screenwriter. He conveniently acquired an apartment and installed many hidden cameras in every room. He believed that the 'True Self' of everyone would surface when they were completely alone.

His way of choosing his tenants was their personality and character trail, an old man whose fetish was to drink expired milk, etc.

The story is about a twisted way of thinking where moral was thrown out and deemed as worthless tr*sh.

Quite a nice read if I must say so. Recommended for people who like dark, sick and disturbing stories. Also, I recommend everyone to watch the movie adaptation of the novel which can be found on youtube.

I have always wanted hardcover books for the web novels I liked. But I really want a hardcover version of this book. Just to remind me this book existed on my reading history.

Some people are reviewing this saying they dont like the protagonist or the way they behave. Well this novel isn't for them. This isn't about enjoying the read or psychological teaching it is what it is. It's just a book about the protagonist and his life and how he feels.

My advice is dont expect anything and just read... more>> if you want to after seeing all those tags. They exist to prove the minimum value the work represents not all of it or what you expect from them. <<less
