An excellent apocalyptic game novel without an annoying brain-dead female lead who spoils all her advantages with s*upid moves and thousands of chapters of face-slapping!

Among the shortcoming for me, there is only one: the overall background and characters are a bit mechanical. But it can be self-explained if the world's gamification affected humans' minds allowing them to adapt to the environment, lowering their grief, greying memories and enhancing their fighting spirit.

Spoiler

overall, it was good. But it’s not something that I would re-read again. It has interesting mechanics and pretty basic in the gamified setting. Moderate paced too when read in one seating but it does get kind of repetitive. Fortunately, the author did not drag it for too long and ended it neatly.

speaking of the ending, it is a bit underwhelming. Kinda dislike the wiped memory trope. It’s akin to “it’s just a dream” trope and kinda cheapen the adventures/experiences since it reset everything.

the lack of romance is just fine for me. While it can be seen vaguely that ML, Lu Chuan is interested in FL, Yun Ling, he wasn’t the annoying in your face type.

the epilogue alluded that ML keep his memory but it was so short to makes anything out of it.

and since I've read Natural Disaster Apocalypse prior to this, I don’t think the system is as evil/bad as the translator & commenters are making out to be. This story is kinda lighthearted comparatively.

I enjoyed reading it, but I have to say I found the ending to be disappointing. Not to the extent that I regret reading the story, but it was an incredibly lazy ending to a good, interesting story. As for the characters, they were a little disappointing as well - there were points of view other than the MC, but they didn't matter very much.

Spoiler

The characters went through so much during the course of the story, and then there was no payoff at the end - the girl and boyfriend couple were so dedicated to one-another that I was really frustrated that I didn't get to see how they ended up! Or the grandma/granddaughter duo, either.

pretty good "kingdom building" novel

Spoiler

I'm not much a fan of the whole reset the world and everyones memories when they win the game, kinda makes everything that happened somehow pointless imo, basically just short of the "in the end it turns out everything was just a dream"-trope, so -1 star from me for that ending

[collapse]

otherwise a good read if you like to watch a competent female MC build a city in a mix between fantasy-rpg/apocalypse world.

The author did right here with this novel. There's not much to complain about except that it should be longer.

The characters were lifelike and you could feel the milk development throughout the novel. Along with the world building that see like you could go wandering even without the author.

Lastly the main character was likeable. The planed encomony out well so the ending worked out. I think the importance of the novel represented management. If one was to hasty or didn't think things through then disaster would strike for their camp.

Only... more>> pity is romance didn't have time to develop properly. <<less

Surprising to say the least, as it has managed to create a survival story that included rpg elements in a credible manner without gratifying the concept of one man army ultra OP protagonist. One thing that itches is just how much the scope of the worldbuilding was reduced to create the story in a form that could rely only on Chinese elements, yet, this itch can easily be scrapped by appreciating an author that didn't try to bite more than he/she should.

The multitude of facets that the story brought by... more>> including tens to hundreds of different perspectives during the development of the world managed to create a clear line between gain and risk while the consequences were sometimes a cold shower even for me the reader. Greed had a price, risks taken in unknown circumstances were also 99 out of 100 one way paths to death while confidence and pride brought the most abrupt ends to some lives.

I do rate it with 4 stars out of 5, but this is one of the few occasions that I can clearly rate it not by the fulfilling factor but rather by how precisely was the risk management of such a concept done. This and that I found the epilogue to be food for the glue eating kindergarten children, like ffs, that chapter was f*cking useless.. And that would be the only rant I have. <<less

It was very enjoyable. The MC doesn't really have many badass moments, she is not the strongest. This is not a novel about MC who get stronger than everyone else. She is a tanker & a territory lord, so she focused on being a tanker and a leader. She does a wonderful job at being a territory lord, making her territory the 1st in rank since the beginning. MC isn't a saint, she doesn't show mercy to those who played tricks on her or betrayed her, but she does try... more>> to help those she can.

This is a very good novel if you like reading about world building novel, the MC focusing on upgrading her territory and hoarding materials, there isn't much angst so it's a pretty chill read. <<less

Loved the story, the main MC is a life skill player, thus like to skill up survival skills, rather than fighting skills. Thus can see her pov of how to manage a city etc, and not the typical action and fighting to level up kinda story. Been looking for city building stories, and was not at all disappointed!

the ending is ... more>>

I really enjoyed this novel, it was Player vs Environment (PvE) not Player vs Player (PvP) which was nice. PvE is my favorite type of game

It is a slice of life and because it is Apocalypse, LOTS of characters die. Characters you care about die

But it still is a good read

Highly recommended

I wish there was a few more chapters to this story~

Because it was very enjoyable!

Not your typical romance-focused VR/MMORPG style novel. This one has a lot of snapshots into side character stories, making the entire story more about the plot/community development/base management of the MC growing the base and the reactions different people have as the game continues and base develops.

At first, the constant POV changes were a bit disorienting as it was unclear which side characters would have more of a contribution to the plot than other cannon-fodders, but... more>> it became quite engrossing over time. Lots of different perspectives were presented, as well as a wholesome message of teamwork and cooperation leading to the most benefits.

Great translation, game language pretty well-translated overall!

Spoiler

I would only have a few corrections - one of which is "output." When used to describe characters or damage, the correct translation is DPS.

DPS has many meanings, damage per second (aka how strong your attack is), but is also a class of characters (like mages/archers) who are focused on doing the most damage onto enemies so that other classes (healers/supports/tanks) fulfill their roles.

So Lu Chuan's nickname should be DPS Demon King, not Output Demon King.

This novel is quite fun and I enjoyed it very much. The FL is a hoarder and she's kind of the strong, cold, powerful, and quiet type. The side characters are good and it's just super fun to read. The writing is simple and easy to understand. 8/10

It's a nice read if you're looking for something with little to no drama with an interesting plot. The flow of the story is easy to follow and the important characters are only a handful. If you're looking for a chill read to pass time, this is the novel for you.

On the downside, the romance aspect was really boring so I guess there's that.

While reading this novel, since they stated that the clothes from the real world (not the game) turned to rags, what does that mean for underwear for men and women? They never stated making that in the novel... lol

4 / 5 ⭐

Such a fast-paced resources management story with so many things goings on but you knew there's not enough "troubles" for the FMC to make her lose. To make it simple, it was BLANDly GOOD.

FMC is pretty likeable with her own train of thought (that's pretty nice during an apocalypse). She manage her territory behind the scenes.

... more>> ML is a nice guy towards FL but he's just a support role who's appearing from time to time. So... there's not enough romance.

While reading this novel I kept on thinking to finish reading it as soon as possible so I can start reading other novel faster. It's not that bad, it was like I've said it above, it's blandly good. I like the ending tho! <<less

4.5 Rounded up to 5. Yun Lin is one of the beta testers for a new VR game, Apocalypse Calamity, and is one of the few who manage to survive to the end of the beta period which allows her to choose from a set of rewards, including lord of her own territory. Later, on the official launch day of the game, she discovers that the game basically affects real life and she sets out to leverage her hard-won skills and knowledge of the game to make Rising Cloud a... more>> safe, thriving place. Story has a litrpg/apocalypse feel to it. This is a satisfying progression story with bonus hoarding and food p*rn. There's not a lot of need for footnotes, but the translator did include a few food images. Translation is solid and reads smoothly, with a professional feel. Light, entertaining story packed into a short 80 chapters, so more novella length. Ending was a bit disappointing, as it has something of it-was-all-a-dream finish but happy nonetheless. The romance is so buried as to be non-existent, though there is hope at the very end. <<less

I'm really enjoying this right now. Even tho the MC does not fight much, she still has skills and will do so if necessary. She likes to hoard stuff so her everyday life is pretty chill but if you peek at her skill cards you'll only find S ranks ones😆

Also, the very very subtle hint of romance is very cute and not annoying at all. They keep giving each other things because none of them want to owe favors but in fact, they repaid each other ages ago but they... more>> think otherwise😆 the back and forth is fun. The world building is great!! I like the gradual changes of things around them the first few days. Like everyday, there's gonna be something that will change in their surroundings. The building will be replaced and the settings will also become different. They're more like in a forest now than a modern civilization. The calamities are a terror. Each problem depended on the current season. Its also not just focus on the MC. We also see other people either figure out a way to live or die in bad luck. Its interesting. Even tho I'm not finish yet I'm already mourning the chapter numbers. I wish this has hundreds of chapters more🙁

****

Lordy, I finished it!!!

Spoiler

the end was kind of like a free ending. I'm a bit disappointed they did not expand more on what really happened after all that but atleast we get to see Lu Chuan meet Yun Ling again? So that's something tho not much.

4.08 Stars

Read: 06/04/2024

Short Summary: The world turned into a survival game called Apocalypse Calamity. The MC is a quiet, solo-playing beta survivor of the actual game and received a camp-level territory at the start. The story is her using her beta-given skills as an advantage to play a resource gathering/management and infrastructure building game in real life to level up her territory, mostly to survive and because she legitimately likes to play this type of resource hoarding game. While all the other characters play a survival and adventuring game lol.

Plot:... more>> 4/5

It is a survival infrastructure hoarding novel. There was also a surprising amount of foodie scenes haha. Nice and chill town then a city-building story where no one knows the MC is the lord so she can happily go about gathering and hoarding resources for her territory to level up. The ending couple of chapters, especially the last chapter before the epilogue was such a cop-out though. It is an ending so there was a resolution to the MC's efforts but it was so rushed. Also, I feel like some of the characters' efforts, like the teams who bought farmland, I wish we got some scenes of them reaping their efforts for winter at least lol. A consequence of the rushed last couple of chapters.

Writing/Translation: 4/5

The translation I read is from dreams of jianghu. Pretty good. I didn't notice anything wrong.

Pacing: 4/5

Honestly, it was pretty smooth. I only got stuck at the very beginning with the Lord token. It felt too cheatlike and made me stop for a bit because I thought it would be too easy too quickly. It is just many other reviewers praised the tropes I like which are hoarding, apocalypse and village building/infrastructure. After I accepted all the cheatlike skills the MC got at the start, it was pretty even.

Romance: -/5

The romance is almost non-existent lol. It's not a romance novel so I won't rate it.

Setting/Worldbuilding: 4/5

Pretty interesting. It was different from the normal generic modern or ancient china world where nothing is really described because it is common knowledge. There are some mildly new things like the gaming system, game items, skills etc. And the different weather patterns. Nice variety from the flow but nothing amazing. Just disappointed that we don't get any info on how and why the game appeared. It's like it was just there so we can get a story out of it lol.

Characters: 4/5

Honestly, everyone is a typical person encountering this situation. They feel like people, it's just we only get a few snapshots of their lives. There was such a nice and large variety that it was lovely and refreshing. They give nice world points on how people are handling the game. It feels lived in. The MC and ML are kinda bland and unchanging lol. We don't know anything about the ML either.

Personal Enjoyment: 4.5/5

I love exactly this type of story! Progression through hoarding, resource management and gathering and lots of slice-of-life happy scenes with the food. My only con would be that ending, how I wished it went on for longer and that I wish the MC had more tight relationships with other people like The Reborn Otaku's Code of Practice for the Apocalypse. Maybe by making the NPCs like people. It would be such an easy change. Give them more personality and good feelings for the MC and done.

At first, I was kinda confused by some words 'cause I'm not big on games. Stuff like HP, MP, and XP just slipped my mind after I first learned what they meant, haha. I had to look 'em up again to remember. But as I kept reading, the story got more interesting, and I started to get the hang of those game terms. It was pretty funny looking back on it.

I gotta say, this story is unlike any I've read before. It's got its own vibe, you know? I'm not... more>> sure when I'll come across another story like this one. It was really cool. I just wish it was longer, though. Overall, it was awesome for me! <<less

A pretty fun lighthearted story about a female OP tank / crafter / lord MC. It's set in an apocalypse so tons of people are frequently dying (some of them by attacking MC), but the overall feel isn't dark despite all the death and starvation. The MC isn't a complete idiot and usually kills people who attack her, luckily.

If you like Bofuri, you'll like this. The negatives are that everyone is pretty dumb overall, and the ending. There are only a few characters in this world with near-average intelligence... it's... more>> normally whatever, but occasionally it gets pretty excessive. The ending isn't offensively terrible, but it's one one of my most disliked types and definitely detracts from the overall enjoyment imo. <<less
