Avoid the Yandere Goddess

I possessed a third-grade extra villain.

I barely avoided the fate of dying from the hands of the protagonist.

However, that’s why the Yandere Goddess’s interest turned from the protagonist towards me.

[The Goddess of Fate shows interest in you with a sly expression.]

NOTE[This review was for the old translator which was a machine translation at best and machine translation sucks balls. The new translator [Raei] seems pretty decent from the brief look I had of chapter 0, so give the novel a go if you're interested now that it's readable. Later-]

[Old review]

I'm sorry but no matter how good a novel is, if its translation is dogshite then it doesn't deserve a good review especially with how many 5 stars this is getting, it's ridiculous.

This novel does not deserve its popularity with the eye bleeding translation that is going on.

Yeah it's interesting in that the MC exploits the game using bugs that were not fixed and game mechanics but it's not enjoyable because the translation is killing my soul. It's practically draining my lifespan as years of my life are disappearing reading this eyecancer.

This is the kind of torture you recieve in the ninth circle of hell. They make terrorists read this garbage translation at guantanamo bay to get vital information, it's that bad. Chuck norris's eyes exploded after he saw this crap.. And then he died.

If you haven't noticed yet, the translation is bad and this novel and its translator should be b*tchslapped back to the hellish pit of mtl from whence it came. <<less

Okay, Avoid Yandere Constellation, where do I even begin? I guess i'll start with the TLDR I used for my rec. list and then explain as it goes-

TLDR: Wimp MC, Plot holes everywhere, Yandere bait, Senseless setting, Bad translation, skip this 3 out of 10. Mediocre tr*sh novel made even worse by phony machine translator. I dropped this at chapter 10.

So, what others are saying is correct, the translation itself which barely passes as machine translation yet the 'tl' pretends to actually be translating instead of just copy pasting the... more>> tr*sh without editing which is what is actually happening here. If we started including even unedited MTL on novelupdates then... regardless, the other reviews expand on this plenty so I wont bother. And I'm of the opinion that the novel should be judged on its own merits rather than the TL messing up, in this case the novel itself is bad, i'll explain-

Anyways, here's the in-depth review-

  • This novel is for the easy to please crowd who or**sm at the very mention of a yandere, or a maid, or a yandere maid. Despite neither character being well-written. thus why I called it a 'yandere bait'.
  • The setting is nonsensical, even the author himself forgets what setting he's going with. There is transmigration, constellations, mentions of an academy, and none of it overlaps or makes any sense continuity wise. There is also modern level of technology, at least the 1900s, but stuff uses 'magic' instead. The author makes a point that 'flushing toilets' exist in this world, in the MC's house, (this will come up again later)
  • It's a broken game world. MC also uses a clear noclip bug because this is a game world with NPCs. glitches in 'reality' which brings into question the fact that every other character is a NPC. poor writing.
  • The characters are, for all intents and purposes, very one dimensional. There is no rapport or relationship established nor does the author even attempts to do so. Their motivations isn't clear nor their ideals. the maid 'likes' the MC just because. The woman is 'yandere' because he says so, not because there is any logic behind it, cause there isn't.
  • In one of the very key plot points, the MC who is a high ranking noble (enough that random people on the street can prostrate when they see him), is being target by an assassin. Now the assassin kills him when he is returning to his room from the bathroom after taking an early morning leak. This is a key plot point, because later on he does the same but this time as a trap. Later on once again its said that the MC went to 'nobles only shower room' to shower.
  • This means.... the MC's room doesnt have an attached bathroom. I dont know which high end peasant house he lives in where his room doesnt just have an attached bathroom. Or if the author is unable to picture a high end house where this would be the case. I feel sad for the author. However this just demonstrates sloppy writing. Small but noticeable plotholes which are basically everywhere.
  • Speaking of the MC, the MC's power is "regression upon death", in other words, the entire world (literally) revolves around the MC and spins backwards as time reverses when he dies and he reloads from 'last checkpoint'. Basically the MC is for all intents and purposes, invincible. Cause this is an insane power to have, he literally can't die. There is also no indication that his power will randomly just stop working, or if it won't work twice for the same 'death flag/event', such a condition is never mentioned or established. For all the reader knows the MC is just unkillable. But even despite that the MC acts as a coward and wimp, putting his head down for no good reason. Basically again just sloppy writing.
  • Another point. The MC faces his father and basically he's like "im sorry" and his father is super surprised. Now the MC makes the comment that it's great that he was acting to be a rogue earlier and now that he a normal human being, everything is surprising. I'm not sure what delusion the author was under because there never was any acting going on. the previous villain body was just a usual rogue, not acting. And the MC never pretended to be a rogue either but instead just started being 'polite' right away.
  • And then, in the next scene he has to come up with a reason about how he found out the assassin/spy in the family. the assassin org wanted to kill him because the original body had made contact with them and they were concerned he might leak information to his family, but the MC is not aware what information they wanted to prevent leaking. So the MC bullshits up a reason that they made a deal to exchange information. that the MC will tell them about the 'original hero' (which is also BS but I wont go into it rn) in exchange for them telling who are the spies in his family. And like the upstanding moral citizens they are. They fkin actually told him????! They didnt tell the identity but they told him the number of spies and he allegedly figured the rest out. Man I could not have imagined a more lame story. and then the author acts as if this whole story that the MC just made up was some kind of genius move.
Anyways, I could go on and on and this only up till chapter 10. Trust me, just never pick up this bait novel. The tags are there to mislead you, none of them are executed well. <<less

Pretty good novel!

Very entertaining. There's no boring elements so far upto 44 chapters.

MC is also very likable unlike most dense charecters. Cunning in fact.

... more>> Gaslighting people, ruining their life while justifying his action and MC is not s*ave to system or does it force him to do unreasonable things.

FMCs also very good not so forced but natural for Yandare story.

It's not a must read but then again no novels we get these days are any good, most ranking novels in this site is so boring I just don't understand what people like about them but It's only my opinion and I wont force them on you but I you are looking for some fun reading. I highly suggest this. And yes expect beginning Tls is good. <<less

PROS:

Interesting and smart MC

Death flags that are unexpected

No copy and pasted female characters and the harem actually drives the plot

It's actually pretty good not gonna lie. There are a lot of cliches here and there but its executed and written well enough. The protagonist / The MC's personality in this novel is really amusing and entertaining. He's kinda dense but also kinda clever, he's pretty cunning but still helpful, you can understand it after read the Riche's Arc in which

Spoiler

he'll use the dark cult / church's name and spread it like they're an as*hole without them even noticing it

all in all, the protagonist personality is likable enough (at least for me). About the plot and storyline... Ehhh, its pretty okay, not the best but definitely can fill me up enough

Multiple Yanderes, harem, regression on death to a set checkpoint (how the checkpoint is set is yet to be determined). One of the yanderes is a goddess. This comes out in the first few chapters so no spoilers. If this sounds interesting to you, give the story a try.

MC = MC of this story, possesses someone inside the novel that forms the basis of this story.

Novel MC = MC of the novel that forms the basis of this story, but ends up as an early antagonist (doesn't get permanently dealt... more>> with, and how they will relate to each other in the future remains to be seen)

MC possesses a typical early novel villain right before being killed by the novel's main character, the story is about him trying to make it thru the novel's storyline

and avoid being f*cked to death by the goddess, as that is what happened to the novel MC who had her affection in the original novel storyline.

I hope someone eventually picks up this series again. Raei, as much as I love them and their translations (especially Looloo's, hers are always fun) seems to have put this series on at least a semi-permanent pause with little communication on when/if it'll continue. Which is a damn shame, as from what I do remember, though it's been almost a year since I last read it now, this series was genuinely a really fun read, with a couple interesting facets of world building, well written enough characters and an interesting... more>> use of the "powers" such as changing the "game settings" for himself, causing stuff like color to shift or his senses to sharpen based on sound volume. This story is poorly written with a bunch of randomly selected tropes smashed together. The Yandere is so bait because it's the least well designed aspect of the story. My least favorite part is that the shop powers he buys are the exact solution to the problem when he needs them and they always cost exactly how many points he has. Too much deus ex machina.

if I had to compare this to anything, it reminded me most of tr*sh count, but it also had lots of other tropes thrown in... more>> at random.

The world building in this is awful and the rating is bait. The translation is good, but the story is bad.

You might ask me, "Paangu can you give any example of bad world building?" Sure can! The MC has access to a gaming panel with a variety of options, and a cash shop for stuff, but the explanation is too poor. We're never given a list of items he can buy, their prices, or even all the gaming panel features or what they do. The MC will just decide to buy them to solve problems or use them whenever it's plot convenient. This is the clearest idgaf to world building and it would easily add to our ability to guess at solutions. Instead the author just ass-pulls solutions out of this mcguffin menu whenever they want. We don't know what's in there or what they do. None of the menu or cash shop items are explained till they've been used and somehow the MC just knows what they do and how to use them. <<less

TL;DR: Can't really recommend. Poor translation, not that clever. Skip.

The concept is not ground breaking, but is fun. There are two major problems with the novel so far:

a. The translation is not good. The best I can say for it is that while often wrong, it still somehow flows most of the time. Also, most of the time, the meaning is generally comprehensible. Any lengthy description of anything is bad though. This is the MC :

Spoiler

Dark-brown hair, slightly torn but reasonably large-looking eyes, a hollow bridge of the nose. A proportion that would be enough to make the average model turn away.

[collapse]

b. The novel isn't actually clever, although usually that is an important part of the genre. Spoiler for like chapters 5-9:
Spoiler

The MC is from crime family X and was in contact with crime family Y. Family Y decides to get rid of MC and quickly before he reveals to X some fact "lala". Since MC transmigrated, he doesn't actually know what "lala" is (probably), but he avoids the assassination and catches the super secret spy of Y in X that tried to silence him.

Now the head of X asks him what is up. Who is this person and why did he try to kill him. The MC then reveals to head of X that this is a spy from Y and he caught him with this genius plan:

A. Start an information exchange with Y.

B. Annoy them by not actually providing the information and possibly cursing them or something. Presumably he also didn't get anything from them, the translation was sketchy here.

C. This then forces them to use their super secret spy to kill him due to this kindergarten level slight.

The head of X is impressed and I'm very much not so.

This story doesn't explain at all why family Y would risk the spy and not use any other assassin outside the manor of X, it isn't like the MC spends all his time inside. There had to be some urgency, but head of X didn't seem to notice. Either head of X is not bright, or the author is not bright.

There would have been room for doubt if head of X potentially pretended to be impressed, but we get this exchange from his point of view and so know he actually was impressed.

[collapse]

Minor side note, ignore unless you are the translator:

Spoiler

This might be an issue with the novel and not translation, if the name of the noble character is X von Y, then X should be the first name and Y the family name. In the translation it is the other way.

The novel is fun to read and the translation of the novel is good. The protagonist is the typical one who transmigrates as a villain, but the story, in my opinion, doesn't have many clichés. The protagonist is interesting and funny, not the usual beta male or dense character.

The protagonist has a system, but it's not an overpowered one. Mostly, the system is there to provide items that could be useful for the arc. One of the protagonist's powers is "Return by Death, " but it's not overly ab*sed or... more>> as traumatizing as it is for Subaru.

The protagonist grows from weak to strong through hard work and occasional rewards from the system.

The female leads all have distinct personalities. The bickering between them is very funny, and the yanderes are not the crazy homicidal type but more of the jealous type. <<less

I completely agree with Novel Casano there are too many plot holes in just the few chaps I went through. It felt like author never really planned anything particularly and he's just going with flow without explaining anything the world building is so pathetic like what are constellations? Who do they favour? Do they favour everyone or only the og protag? Does the citizens know their existence? Nah nothing

Or what's the academy?what's happening there? At what age people go there? Somewhere they mentioned MC is like 20s... so what's he... more>> doing in academy till now? Why's he not going back and staying in his county? Does the author actually forgot MC is in academy and started to proceed the story?

And the yandere in the title I don't know man idek anything anymore they don't have any reason or setting.. somehow the goddess watched him with a twisted smile and wants to keep him forever.. like why? Isn't she a goddess? Shouldn't you atleast give proper explanation of why?the maid.. she likes him.. nothing explained she likes him even before he's changed.. even when he's a tr*sh. and she suddenly smiles twistedly? And MC thinks she's yandere? Outta nowhere?why?? I mean why?

And MC's power this is the dumbest possible move the author could make in any any any lamest possible transmigration story the plot is least but interesting when MC wants to struggle and survive. thats what runs the plot... if we wonder why's he doing this? Why's he talking to them? Why's he going there? Everything in any transmigration story.. BCOZ HE WANTS TO SURVIVE.. even an amateur knows that.. but here author made him practically immortal no limitations the death regression even without proper explanation why he got that power. and when you give out that kinda power where the hell could MC struggle..I mean hes just invincible...

Don't even ask me about the European ambiance and the noble culture... except MC there was not even a single other noble mentioned here... c'mon atleast try to establish a continent and imperial family and their status in that continent nah author pulls this "A FAMILY WITH HIGH STATUS" where a assassin that too a low grade one can infiltrate and assassin the MC right inside the mansion like at the heart of the mansion.. like might as well kill the head of this so called powerful noble family and take over the county.

All in all the number of plot holes are so many that I lost count the lamest possible world building to exist it's like the story started from middle and I missed out the first part of story where they might have explained all the important stuff about this world..i actually tried checking for that.

If you're an amateur reader who has no experience in novels.. then may be you might pass sometime with this. if you know how the transmigration and World building works or how noble society works then you're gonna hurt your eyes and brain while reading this.

Practically zero seriousness in the plot.. like when MC can come back alive anyhow where would we feel the thrill yk? <<less

- ability to "change volume" so he can hear people in other places, down to their heartbeats. Which makes no sense since changing volume to hear better would lead to his own heartbeats drowning everything else.
