Qin Mo never thought that he would ever find himself in such a wretched state. He—by his own father—was labelled as mentally-ill and sent off to a reformatory that claimed it saved kids who are troubled.

The only good thing that happened from his plight was him being able to meet Shen Zhuoyun, a boy who shared the same goal as himself. Thus, together, the two plotted to escape, to free themself from that living hell.

But why… why did it so happen that the once smiling Shen Zhuoyun, a boy who once laughed with reckless abandon, that ended up crumbling away? Bit by bit, he fell apart until nothing but a dark cruel nature was left completely exposed before him.

Then, after the sixth year they were free from that boot camp, why did Shen Zhuoyun, of all people, again stand before him with sun-kissed skin and a core moulded from darkness itself.”

Not usually one to write reviews, but since this novel had none, I had to write one.

I started this novel without expecting much—the tags and summary didn’t give away a lot—but god, this was a freaking MASTERPIECE. I was glued to my screen and literally pulled an all-nighter just to finish volume one.

Here’s a quick summary: our MC ends up in a “disciplinary school, ” which is basically just a prison. No communication with the outside world, brutal physical training, and barely enough food to survive. The instructors? Literal tr*sh—some... more>> beat the kids, others sexually harass them. And as if that wasn’t enough, the students bully each other constantly.

That’s where he meets the ML, who quickly starts caring for the MC and develops strong feelings for him. Together, they begin planning their escape.

I really liked both MC and ML. The MC isn’t some weakling character—he can defend himself, even without ML and, on top of that, he’s insanely smart. A legit computer genius, which turns out to be a great help during their escape.

The ML is definitely a yandere—but HEAR ME OUT, he’s a good one. He’s obsessive, possessive, and jealous, but never hurts or controls the MC. He has some power in the school and dotes on the MC as much as he can, well considering they’re in prison. Little spoiler, but one scene I found really cute is during physical training where they had to climb a mountain, and the ML carried the MC on his back the entire day because he’s anemic. In my opinion, the ML gives us just the right amount of yandere energy—intense, but not too toxic.

He doesn’t care about anyone else except MC, but if MC wants to help someone, he’s immediately on board. He even says the MC is his “conscience” and that he’s becoming a better person because of him.

Another thing I loved about this novel are the side characters. I usually really don’t care about them and skip their scenes, but this time I really couldn’t help but like them. To end up in this school they oblivious all had some kind of « problems » which made them complex and touching. Even characters that I didn’t like at first eventually grew on me as we found out they all had their own tr*sh backstory.

Volume one is a solid 10/10 in every aspect—easily one of the best novels I’ve read recently.

Volume two, which takes place when they’re adults, is naturally a bit less intense since the school setting is gone (as horrible as it was, it was a key storyline plot). This part focuses on the MC’s quest for revenge against the school. It’s still enjoyable, especially because we’re so emotionally invested and want them to get their happy ending.

Would definitely recommend, but big trigger warning: this novel contains a lot of violence—physical, verbal, and psychological. If you’re sensitive to that, it might not be the right read for you. <<less
