Mu Huiyue, an avid Pokémon fan, finds herself transported to a modern world where humans coexist with extraordinary creatures.

Animals, plants, insects, undead, and even natural phenomena—all things on this planet can transform into powerful magical beasts. In this world, people form contracts with these mystical creatures, living, studying, and working alongside them. Beast tamers are the rising stars of society.

Mu Huiyue quickly embraces her new reality and sets her sights on becoming an elite beast tamer. With dreams of forming contracts with stunning, powerful creatures, attending the prestigious Beast Taming University, competing in national battle tournaments, and becoming the world champion, she embarks on an epic adventure with her contract partners.

As fate would have it, Mu Huiyue rises to the top, standing on the world’s greatest battle stage. On the eve of her final showdown, she glimpses a poster of herself with her contract beasts:

On her left stands a headless knight wrapped in dark mist, on her right, a one-eyed grim reaper gripping a massive scythe, and behind her, a ghostly white wolf howls beneath the moon. In the center stands Mu Huiyue, dressed in black, her eyes deeper and darker than the night.

Mu Huiyue: “…This isn’t exactly how I imagined things?”

Mu Huiyue: “Oh well, as long as I win, it doesn’t matter.”

Thus begins the rise of the youngest Dark-Type King in the history of the Alliance.

I would like to rate the novel higher but it truly is just an average beast taming novel. It has a somewhat decent story but it suffers the same fate as most beast taming novels do.

There are some great points about the novel. First is the MC. A notable aspect of the MC is that she's a female, which is very rare for true beast taming novels. Moreover, she is someone who truly bonds with her beasts, not just treating them as mere battle machines.

Another point is the characterization. The... more>> main cast, the MC and her beasts, are somewhat expanded on. They are not carbon copies and they actually have their own personalities. It is most evident with the MC as her goals, aspirations, and characterizations shines a lot in the novel. She has her own principles and moral which is a breath of fresh air in the beast taming genre.

Third are her pets. I love the novel's focus on dark type beasts. It's a type that is not commonly explored, althogh it has its own shortcomings in this aspect. Such as the lack of creative imagination in the application of dark type skills. They are generic, with only the dark space being mildly interesting but was underutilized. (Example of great application is from the novel Lord of the Mysteries with the Evernight Goddess).

Fourth are the side characters. The novel doesn't have much since there is a greater focus towards the main cast. But, despite that, each of them has their own unique personality and circumstances.
Spoiler

Like the dude with the mantis, the flame priestess girl, her sister, the king guy, and the people from the dark type research arc

Now here comes the bad side. DEUS EX MACHINA. The MC literally never lose once, there's no real struggle and most problems are resolved easily. Nothing nerve wracking came on her way. It's such an annoying way of writing beast novels. The MC didn't even get damaged badly on the entire course of the story. She manages to defeat the enemy instantly. Heck not one of her beasts got seriously injured in all of their fights.
Spoiler

Yes, even the main antagonist got easily wrecked

[collapse]

Another thing I hate is the cheat. The cheat is supposedly the game she's playing before she died. Nothing is wrong with that except it has a gacha system. Why is that bad? Because it's a plot device that effectively shields or make things easier for the MC. Your pet needs something? Oh the MC got it from the gacha. Your pet is weak and needs skills? Oh she got it from the gacha and etc. While some aspects are tolerable, like the moonlight skills which took a lot of time for her pet to learn. It still leaves a leeway to the author to make everything convenient.

The novel is average at best. It's decent for people to waste their time on. The romance is decent too, if any of you were wondering. <<less

It's a nice story in an urban "secret realm" Beast Tamer world setting.

The characters all have interesting personalities, multiple mysteries and world building elements have been set up, and the overall plot goal is setup. It bodes well for this being a decent story.

The biggest weakness is so far is the translation. The skill names are constantly changing and the first tamed beast has had 4 different spellings across chapters so far.

The story is quite good and I like it. It is one of better written beast master stories, but it has its flaws. I gave it 4 stars, but without my subjective view it should be around 3 stars.

The main protagonist up until chapter 63 never defeated and if I would believe other reviews she never will.

The MC has cheat power and use it constantly. Her cheat doesn't have any downsides. Good cheats should give something and take something so the MC won't be able to overuse it and make... more>> a boring story.

I think most characters are written quite good. They have valid reasons for their behaviour (in their opinion at least). There is no situation where new enemies are jumping out from left and right without break.

The story world has elements of a few different world schemes with a twist that make it sufficiently interesting.

The biggest fault of English version of this story is translation. Translation team block some new chapters to earn money. I can understand such practice, but I believe that translator should deliver high level of translation with consistent name system of the main cast (including beasts), levels of beast advancement and others. They should also be able to find some errors in original text when it is clear form context. Instead we have not the worst but also not the best machine translation without text edition. <<less

Wow, a real Monster training/raising story.

I personally love the story, mysteries and connections inside it, but man some of the conclusions aren't satisfying enough.

Spoiler

Like with the Lord Zero Awakening, also what happened to the Gabriel kinda thing, it was a rather fast (?!) conclusion for all that buildup

Also there is only subtle romance in it. Like real slow and rarely shown, until a certain point, that yeah these feelings exist, but it still isn't the main point of the story.

Also love her companions, Eren is the best boy, but the others are also entertaining and have their own personalities! <<less

9/10. The plot is pretty solid and coupled with a very hardworking protagonist. It never is boring because there's a main goal and a lot of side goal to achieve the that. It has the most unexpected romance I've ever read. It's subtle and it's perfect for the story. It's also very easy to MTL so I definitely recommend doing that. The ending is really happy too. Very peaceful 🩷
