Liu Meiyun, who had literally worked herself to death by staying up all night, suddenly woke to find herself in another body. A girl in a provincial Cultural Performance Troupe in the 1960s, with the same name and surname as her own.

In the brief flash of memories she received, one word summed up the girl’s life: tragic.

Because of her beauty, she was the target of jealousy and spite. At eighteen, she was sent to perform for the army, only to fall and break her leg. Soon after, she crossed paths with a s*umbag and, in a haze of confusion ended up married off to the countryside.

Worse still, after her marriage, both her parents died in an accident. She was ab*sed by her in-laws, forbidden from taking the college entrance exams when they were reinstated, and lost her only younger brother in a drowning accident. Crushed by the blow, the original Liu Meiyun ended her life by jumping into a river.

Now, with a new soul in that body, Liu Meiyun stood before the performance that would decide the girl’s fate. Without hesitation, she submitted an application to retire from the troupe, intending to retreat to the countryside to avoid disaster.

Before her application could even be processed, her leader sets her up with a prospective match: Lu Changzheng, well-born, handsome, upright, everything the modern blind-date market could wish for.

His only flaw? He was six years older than her, with a potential generation gap.

Lu Changzheng is picky. He wants a woman who is pretty, obedient, from a simple family, genteel and polite, reasonable and level-headed, and not someone from his local neighborhood.

Aside from the “simple family background” part, Liu Meiyun ticked all the boxes. And since she was particularly beautiful, Lu Changzheng is willing to compromise and decides to put in for marriage registration first.

Liu Meiyun’s own standards for a husband weren’t low either. He had to be decent-looking, responsible, protective of her and her family, close to her age, and easy to coax.

Aside from the “close to her age” part, Lu Changzheng met every requirement. And since the man was so delightfully easy to coax, Liu Meiyun decided to make an exception of her own and trick him home first, then see how the rest plays out.
