Mate I saw this got an adaptation to a manga and it was badass. Then I checked here hoping there was an translation for the novel and found this again (cause apparently I already had it on one of my lists). Anyways, here's to hoping for future translations, cause there may be an influx of people asking for this in the very near future

Gonna make it quick but I just wanted to mention that this 'Monster' genre will stay true for the whole novel. The author doesn't deviate from the fact that the protagonist is a monster, as well as the other main characters in the series.

The MC isn't really that OP and the enemies get stronger and stronger, the MC mainly uses strategic battles such as diversion, deceit, traps, and so on, and will only face the enemy head-on when he has no other choice. It has quite a bit of mystery... more>> to it and the story also has character growth because of the protagonist past-lives as well as his companion.

Overall, it's a really great novel if you want a Non-Human Protagonist, the author is really great at portraying how the protagonist is a monster albeit a human at heart, and how animals see the human and other race. It is survival is the fittest and shows that because you kill doesn't mean your evil and it is only for survival.

A very good Survival, Reincarnated as a Monster story, highly recommended.

PS. The novel boasts a plethora of exceptional artworks, ranging from the protagonist's infancy form resembling a blend of facehugger and chest buster to the awe-inspiring adult form reminiscent of King Ghidorah. Additionally, these illustrations feature other significant characters such as No. 26, Adhai, Heavenly Mother, and PS-111, enhancing the visual appeal of the story. <<less

It's incredibly boring.

Good points

-Its actually a monster MC.

... more>> -The MC actually remains a monster mc

Mixed points

-Power progression is decent, but some things feel forced to keep the MC from snowballing out of control. For example, a very arbitrary chance of obtaining [traits]. Sometimes it just works first time no problem, letting him obtain a plot convenient [trait]. Sometimes it doesn't trigger even after dozens of times, forcing him to forego simple but powerful [traits] (if stacked together). Also, he could obtain [Robust Lifeforce] from a c*ckroach, what's stopping him from just eating a whole bunch of insects and small, weak animals to get their [traits]?

Bad points

-
Spoiler

I don't understand the authors decision to send MC to a place where danger is around every corner. After getting in the escape pod, why not just head to an uninhabited planet filled with wildlife. Like one of those "ocean planets" he keeps mentioning. Ye his evolution will be slow, but so what? He can always evolve later, without the sword of Damocles constantly hanging over his head.

[collapse]

-Horrible cliche of recurring enemy.

-MC has a severe case of I-Must-Chase-Conflict-itus <<less

Damn this novel is good! Here we see a rational solo player survive while becoming a nightmare for his enemies, it is for his survival but for me he is a true horror villain.
Spoiler

The MC hunting style changes every arc so it never gets old since he evolvers by the chapter I am in he is capable of taking over spacecrafts and transform them into living beings/nests and taking control over people creating a horrorlike aspect towards his enemies

This is just an incredible novel of survival and evolution.

I just started reading this a few days ago but from what I've read, I can say the novel is worth reading.

It might not suit some people's taste but I think everyone should at least give it a try.

The novel is detailed, but not to the point that it feels unnecessary, it has just the right amount of info.

MC is also intelligent, which he needs to be if he wants to survive.

I recommend reading on Hel Scans, they have the best translation and they post chapters consistently.

The novel does a good job at combining several elements to create a unique and engaging story. The author uses elements from a game to create the setting but does a good job at making the fictional setting seem fantastical but logical. The author does a good job at slowly explaining elements behind the game as they become relevant. One major issue I do have is that we are dropped right in the center of the action at the beginning of the novel. I'm not sure if there is a... more>> one-shot intro chapter not translated but it does make the MC mentality a little confusing because we aren't sure if the MC is a character in the game or truly transported into the game.

What the novel excels at, and what makes it truly unique are the elements of horror and gore. While the novel initially seems to present itself as an Alien knockoff, the author gets more comfortable creating grotesque imagery and monsters as the novel progresses. The MC isn't one the side of good or bad, he's on the side of survival, and he's really good at that.

I think for anyone who are fans of gore, monster movies, or the Overlord series. I think there is a lot to like here. <<less

The writing is a pit choppy for the first chapter or two but gets better very quickly and becomes incredibly descriptive and engaging. It has great action with an interesting premise, sort of like reading a book biased on the movie Alien but from the alien's perspective. The planning from the MC is a particular highlight as it goes about taking over a space station like a puzzle game by figuring out who it can take out and who it desperately needs to take out, using hit and run tactics... more>> that can really get you on the edge of your seat at parts.

It's a great read. <<less

I read it to chapter c66 so I think I have enough information to make a small review.

The novel is quite fast paced, though I don't mind it, I think it actually adds to the story since he has to adapt to a new environment as an evolving monster.

Spoiler

The MC was your "typical" try hard asian gamer who enjoyed the sci-fi alien genre, then gets transported to the game he enjoyed the most after accepting to participate in the beta testing for a new sequel of the game.

He gets reincarnated as his favorite alien, the AMORPH, which is a type of alien who focuses on the mid to late-game in gamer terms (LoL), this species of aliens can get stronger by eating other beings from species that contain ~genetic information~.

Which is pretty fun, you really feel the MC getting stronger and it's exciting, you never know what kind of monster the MC will become at the end, also, he is pretty smart, he uses strategy over force since his species is specialized in hunting.

This is my first review, don't expect it to be perfect :)

Rare story about evil monster. Not some friendly slimes or goblin, but truly Alien-style journey. As for translation, I don't see any issue with it as for now.

For someones, points of view from "pray" can be annoying as it occurs offen, but cmon - for such rare plots there is no common guidelines? And they are not long and mini side-stories in chapters (which are long, btw).

5/5 story, 3.5/5 translation

Quite good, definitely worth a read. Explores a relatively untouched genre as most monster novels are not often set in sci-fi fantasy settings (sorry sci-fi fans but this novel, like most WNs/LNs, isn't true sci-fi).

Very well-written for a KR web novel regardless of what a lot of detractors claim. Some nuance is lost in translation due to inadequate translation at times which seem to be machine-translated. ... more>>
Spoiler

e.g. the hilarious mistranslation from psychic reflection armor to psychic reflection gloves.

[collapse]
The translation is also uncoordinated among the various translators and terminology/nomenclature is changed sporadically oftentimes just transliterating some of the terms. Also lost is some of the style, as it is stylistically better written than a lot of other KR novels which isn't really conveyed in the translation.

Some detractors in the reviews lack reading comprehension as readers must be mindful of the actual setting of the story: it's just like SAO, the premise being that the protagonist is a human living in a future relatively near to us in which games are played using immersive VR tech and that he was thrown into a game world. A lot of the non-sensical aspects of the world can be attributed to the idea of game-balance and mechanics that wouldn't be present in reality i.e. an advanced spaceship lacking cameras or other electronic monitoring in key areas. It may feel contrived but it literally IS a game world. The only gripe about this fact is that the author writes about the differences in game world and game reality, but these differences are VERY selective.
Spoiler

Like how there are variations in monsters which are also able to grow beyond a specified standard, but bruh cameras are cheap so why wouldn't they just put them in every corner of the ship...

[collapse]

Overall, the novel is a good distillation of action, suspense, and horror with a rather reasonable power/growth curve of the protagonist that makes this genre of weak-t0-strong so addictive. A lot of the plot is quite predictable but still made enjoyable by the different evolutionary paths and the coalescing of the scattered plot lines.

We will have to see whether the author will run into the common pitfall that these KR novels seem to fall into where they lose steam & direction and turn into a slopfest. <<less

This series is great if you are looking for an intelligent protagonist trying to survive in a hostile universe. As others have said, MC became an UASM (Unidentified Aggressive Space Morph, Amorph for short) his favorite playable species in the game he used to play called Space Survival.

But differently from the game, in his new reality the NPCs are smarter and think like how real humans would do in their given situations and MC has to take everything into account before planning an attack or escape, he can't just barge... more>> in and hope his cheats will save his life, he has to be cautious and prepare for unexpected turn of events.

He's ruthless and doesn't see humans as people anymore but only as nourishment for his growth, but that isn't too bad considering humans in this universe are ruthless themselves and corrupt only wanting money and power.

I have not found yet a likeable human character in the story so far, which makes you root even more for the protagonist's progress.

Spoiler

Ironically the other likeable characters are MC's companions which are monsters of different species and help him during his raids and ambushes. And since the game became reality, MC can cooperate with them, which was impossible in the game due to Amorph race being completely solitary and incapable of communication with others.

>>>>. Here's a pretty nice compendium about the story! With some discussion about some of the reviews and some PSAs about what to expect / errors that should really be addressed <3. <<<<

I personally really enjoy this. To the degree that it's a shame that I can't read it in Korean! It's refreshing, the author's passion oozes out of the text (what a fanboy), and the protagonist is really as much as a fanatic as a monster should be. The companions gathered along the way are interesting, and they help... more>> support the main character's trauma-- bio-locked feelings/humanity so they can grow. And the best part? Their personalities improve and grow too!? It's not the dumb thing even the latest popular stories do where getting stronger in fights is suddenly character development.

Spoiler

There is a pink jellyfish with an adorable, maternal, giggly, bubbly, personality for you slime lovers! And she's just great.

[collapse]

This is a mix of:

Survival, horror, fanfiction, isekai, horror, starting from zero and it's kind of starting to stack things on top. There's a silly bit of confused romance for you goober furries too. It can even become a god killing series if the author decides to go that way.

People questioned the morality of the MC, this would be a mistake for the most part. Let's explain it like this. This is not a story about a human, and it certainly cares little about the species in general. It's made clear in the beginning that the MC is affected heavily by the body they're in, not to mention that they treat the world as an evolved form of the game + the fact that it's pretty much impossible to survive in the word without stomping out lives like you're a deviljho! To be honest the part where the Mc's consciousness awakened in their favorite monster is more of a hook for all of our brain rot brains to be more excited about the beginning of the story. If you can't wrap your head around the beauty that humans aren't the truth of the universe, pweease become an evil monster that brings death to planets <3l---

PSA 1---That is to say, if you're down here in the comments because you don't like how inhumane the MC is... Did you seriously miss the point THAT bad? Seriously?

Plot armor is there in this kind of story, I mean, what doesn't have it these days. HOWEVER I can say that you know MC will win because there's 50 more chapters and you keep spotting the foreshadowing... But damn is it satisfying to watch a monster use dastardly tricks and resourceful planning like it's the back of their hand. It feels more like a spy book! And I'm all for trying to guess what cleaver thing the author devised to amuse me. And I'm excited about the story, what the world has become and what side future

take!

PSA 2 ---There was a major translation screw up that spans like 100 chapters??! Translator Jjescus and Proofreader Demon God's Disciple seriously produced some slop. So when you spot their names you'd better start reading carefully before stuff stops making any sense at all. These two actually tanked the reviews here so hard during their reign... But luckily! It seems like they had been moved somewhere else! So welcome back good TL!!
Spoiler

(But I will be forever angry that bubble bubble doesn't call him Big Baby anymore)

[collapse]

PSA 2 part 2--- Please, if you're a reviewer during the period of those two's slop. Don't diss the author over the incompetence of people who can't even machine TL better than a 10 year old can write. The author is still cooking pretty hard and it's good to remember that this is a Korean novel that we're reading in English. Seriously, if someone with great English writing skills were to bring it to the levels of the novel in Korean we wouldn't hear anything about bad writing. <<less

this novel has a somber tone, likely to express that space fantasy just isnt about spaceships, countless unique and colorful races, and the romance of adventure in the galaxy but also of the unknown. Especially when the MC himself is a grotesque lifeform.

the novel world doesnt paint a picture of how advanced society is in the space age but how it is similar (or even worse) to any other era with rampant corruption, poverty, violence and stuff. And worse in a sense that there are entities out there in the... more>> vast universe that humans can barely comprehend like mc's species.

of course its not a perfect novel. No webnovel is lmao. But it is cool and interesting <<less

It's alien movie fanfic from the alien perspective with game element's. It's not original but definitely nice to see a real monster MC. Not sure why he needs only female monsters following him though. That's kinda weird.

It was interesting in the beginning but the translation got progressively worse and story repetitive. Autor sometimes forgets previous plot elements and changes things in a confusing way, and the translation really does not help in this.

If the translation was ok that would be 4, 5 story, but at chapter 135 they translated amorph... more>> as eimoph and previously mother of the sky as dragons mother for f# sake, which promoted me to write this review in anger... <<less

Typical strong to stronger novel with not so good writing (-1 star). Thou there is some tactical element.

MC is not developed properly in moral cense - it can devour a whole ship with innocent cargo and at the same time he cares for other player, author tries to depict him as coldblooded killer focused on survival and at the same time there is no internal character disposition towards his companions to support such worldview. Also there is no children in this novel and no consequent dilemmas connected to their existence... more>> (and MC at least once must have met such dilemma by ch 130). At the same time MC for the first part of novel tells us that "stealth is the best basic" and does not follow this words - engages in many fights which he has all things needed to evade, which in turn fuels the conflict and his own danger level in the eyes of observers. Or while he could evade a fight, hide and look like simple alien predator, MC ends up disclosing that he is highly intelligent being thus rising the need to kill him to the maximum high which in turn leads to enemies sending elite military units to kill him instead simple androids. Incomprehensible. Other characters are also like this. (So this is another -1 star).

Also there is a problem - for the most part ideas in this novel are secondhand i.e. spaceship arc from Alien (by Ridley Scott), jungle arc from Predator (by John McTiernan), deep station destruction from Deep Blue Sea (by Renny Harlin) are the few from which ideas were taken (author himself sometimes writes from which film a scene was taken). And yes - it is not forbidden, especially since author changes perspective. But this leads me to question what part of this novel is newly created (I'm not sure but maybe even ice planet and space station arcs were taken from somewhere). Combine it with too much of an action (the density is like John Wick 3-4) and well... You will novel without proper plot development. Change of pace or type of MC activity will be good for this novel. Especially since MC can at some point make mobs into obedient sl*ves (make some guys serve him, infiltrate Megacorp or Cult, create organization, develop it, get material advantages (materials, ships, additional helpers which don't know about him, information) and surprise his enemies with this unpredictable action (he was a solo player without any friends)). This would have been more safe warhammer type cult-like development then what author depicts presently.

If you want better plot - go read about one famous white spider.

If you want more of better writing - go read about dragon hatchling.

But this? I do not recommend at present. Just to be sure, I'll read it till ch 250-300 and update if something changes. <<less

To be clear it's more like a 3.5 on a good day, but there's some personal gripes I have with this particular story. For one, the translation or perhaps it's the original work at fault uses a lot of inconsistent wording. They can change the spelling or phrase of a particular ability, species, or organization and I don't know who is at fault for that. It doesn't detract from the experience too much but that issue happens every other chapter. Another gripe is that the MC keeps going after the... more>> big risk targets when he could lie low for long term gains and risk a lot less but it's sort of forgivable given his circumstances. This last issue I have could be something I missed, but what even is this game they all played? It's got "endings" for each race but it's also multiplayer and there's almost a generational gap between players who have heard legends of the MC playing. It's probably just something I should have ignored but it's kind of a key point to the power system he's got going on. The actual scaling of his abilities gets ridiculous alongside their downsides but the whole point of the series is that he's an evolving space monster so I can't say it's completely a bad thing.

Anyways, 3.0-3.5 still means it's alright. It's got a unique story in that the MC is actually a monster and not some hot man with horns. His relationship with his companions is enjoyable with their antics and cross-species confusion of trying to baby each other. <<less

author literally gave plot armor to the enemy for no good reason, all the while ignoring previously established and cemented facts, later author deleted enemies memories, basically giving plot armor for MC, all this looks ridiculous, author probably came up with some bs and decided to retcon sh*t up in the name of "cool" or whatever.

seeing such bs I can't say it's going to get better, author seems to have no plan on what is happening, retcons mean author has tr*sh memory or tr*sh management skills

Spoiler

in ch16 MC predicted that if he stabbed his opponent then the opponent would shoot him to death, which is impossible because MC has neurotoxin that would completely immobilize the opponent near-instantaneously. It was also explicitly stated the opponent would unholster his gun and shoot him, that is so much time for that magical neurotoxin to work its magic, not to mention MC having enhanced reflexes that should allow him to dodge anyway

in ch21 author went against established fact and deleted everyone's memories of watching surveillance footage to hide MC ability

[collapse]

editch45: I can't even, I mean I like this novel, but damn some things are just completely inexcusable. This should be put in spoilers but f*ck it, it's part of world-setting, listen here, once police start an operation, they CANNOT communicate with HQ, the only thing they have is a little button called "request reinforcements" that they can push, that's it, as for what the reinforcements should expect, what they should prepare for, what equipment to take, they CANNOT know anything, because police are NOT ALLOWED to communicate information about the mission with the HQ to tell them what is happening

did I mention that biometric monitors that already exist and are being used in reality don't exist in this novel?

i usually give novels 4 stars if they're fine, they got to earn the 5star, this novel loses 1 star for all the retcons and another for absolute dogsh*t worldbuilding <<less
