This story isn't the most brilliant as far as plot, but the comedy is giggle and guffaw-inducing for sure. Don't read if you expect a masterpiece of intrigue and power. DO read if you want to smile.

Spoiler

Meet Alon. He used to play this game Psychedelia pretty religiously before he died and was reincarnated as the useless third son of Count Palatio, the Count being a minor villain of the underworld.

Previously being an average Korean man in the never-ending grind of life, he wants to live this life comfortably and peacefully. Except, he knows of all the coming disasters headed his way that will disrupt his goal, starting with the Five Sins, superhuman vessels of god reincarnations that will bring down a tsunami of calamity. Fortunately, Alon is reincarnated 10 years before the story begins and he is able to save the five human vessels and becomes a distant benefactor who leads them down the right path. Sure, they'd already experienced some tragedy and ab*se, but he doesn't think they're mindbroken to the point of bloodthirsty mania.

What Alon doesn't realize is that he's just not on the same wavelength as ANYONE in Psychedelia. This world is fraught with danger and intrigue. The Five vessels, Yutia, Schroleong, Deus, Radan, and Line are already crazy people who have been taught to read between the lines for survival. So even when Alon thinks he's being straightforward, these five "foster children" of his can squeeze meaning out of any rock he gives them. Already containing OP potential pre-possession of the Five Sins, his foster children become monster powerhouses in their respective organizations and seats and always have Alon's back whether he realizes it or not, causing a hilarious rube goldberg sequence of misunderstandings throughout the United Kingdoms from the underworld underbelly to the political faction to multiple religious orders.

I'm mostly just reading this for the comedy factor alone, but it does help that:

  1. Alon is earnest and even if he's working towards a future for his own comfort, he does care for his people and genuinely empathizes with people.
  2. His foster children are like big wolf dogs--bowling him over with puppylike love and admiration, but deadly to everyone else.
  3. There's always something going on, so I'm never bored.

The action is fun, but there is little tension because even if his mana pool is "small", he practices a different type of magic than the norm and whenever he's in a bind, he always happens to have an artifact on hand that will help him get past it. So, I guess, I wish there was a bit more struggle, but again, mostly just reading this for the comedy, misunderstandings and blatant denial and ignorances. Plus, I love found family tropes.

The story follows a MC who says he'll investigate the things around him but never does. Instead we get our favorite blend of cluelessness and misunderstanding tropes that plague this fic. Honestly at this point the MC is just getting everything handed to him on a silver platter and each arc highlights how 'hard' of a boss fight he participates in. Literally the MC is so useless that the author forcefully inserts a bigger bad into the works with little foreshadowing just to keep the tension up. Otherwise you'll just... more>> read how his yandere orphan soldiers go about clearing any obstacle in his way as he remains clueless.

Outside of this, the fic really doesn't have anything going for it. It does a little magic system building, OP wish fulfillment and eldritch horror, yet there isn't much here for a satisfying read. If it stook to one of the topics above, and dialed it to 11, it would've been at least thought provoking.

Fairly decent overall. The story relies heavily on convenient plot devices and misunderstandings. It’s hard to tell if that’s because the author struggles to move the story forward without them, or if it’s intentional, considering misunderstandings are a key theme in the plot. Either way, it’s something that stands out.

Pros:

  • The novel is pretty funny, ngl. It’s got a solid sense of humor that keeps things light and engaging.
  • The world-building is solid and quite decent
  • The interactions between the MC and the Five Sins are genuinely entertaining, with solid dialogue that makes their dynamics a highlight of the story.
Cons:

  • Don’t go in expecting a well-crafted or serious plot, because you’ll just be disappointed. It’s more of a satire with random things constantly popping up.
  • The story leans way too much on convenient plot devices, which can feel lazy at times.
  • Most of the side characters, except the main ones, are bland and lack depth.
  • The MC is ridiculously dense, which might be intentional but still feels overdone.
Conclusion:

If you go in expecting a satire with no real focus on a coherent story, it’s a fun read. But if you’re looking for something with deep character development or a tightly-woven plot, you’ll probably be left wanting more. The humor and interactions carry the novel, but the reliance on conveniences and lackluster side characters hold it back.

Not a serious novel, it is comedic. Relying on the characteristics of the MC and the misunderstandings due to those by the people/entities around him.

Translation is great

There are dramatic settings for characters but its not heavily emphasized its either a plus or a minus depending on your preference

... more>> MC is one of those with paralyzed facial expressions and since alot of the narrative is from his point of view it may confuse less attentive readers when he says he "smiles, flinches, sweats"

The settings are very reminiscent of the novel Overlord. With bloodthirsty loyalist zealots for minions and the chaos that ensues because their leaders actions and thoughts are misunderstood.

At 34 chapters (It says 141 internally in the website) its a bit too early to judge the novel. But it is entertaining in its own right. I enjoy the contrast of the light hearted thoughts and personality of the MC against the inherently dark macabre settings of the background. <<less

A description that really makes you want to get high

No, but we're listening to the monologue (even monologues are not ordinary, is it too much to watch someone get beaten for over 10 minutes just to flirt?) From Evan's perspective, he's the type of person who just stares blankly at someone who asks if he's going to die and says "Is that so?" Even when he's doing magic, he's like a real mastermind

In short, this is a novel that is worth your time. Don't be fooled by its rating. It... more>> is truly a hidden gem. Also, the people who gave it a poor rating only read the chapters first, nothing more. Their opinion should not be relied upon. <<less

Very repetitive.

The main character has no personality and is as dense as a piece of wood.

Just remember that everyone is in disbelief and MC has no clue why.

It just goes from one disbelief to another with little to no story depth.

Maybe it would be funny if this pattern didn't repeat itself every 10 chapters with no change except the characters around.

The face slapping is dumb and forced. Villians have no brain and behave exactly the same every single time.
