The variety show “The Most Hated Her and Him” invited six of the most disliked celebrities voted by netizens and industry insiders to participate in the recording.

The show became a hit as soon as it aired, and netizens called it the most unethical variety show they had ever seen.

However, on the day before the official recording of the show, Shang Lu suddenly realized that the world she lived in was a novel and she was a cannon fodder supporting actress, as well as the number one female star of this show, and most hated female celebrity voted by netizens.

Shang Lu exclaimed, “VIP viewing area, here I come!”

***

During a game segment, Shang Lu won and gained the priority to choose her room.

A princess syndrome actress arrogantly said, “Hey, let’s exchange rooms.”

Everyone thought they were going to have a conflict, but Shang Lu smiled and said, “It’s 50,000 yuan for one night, 20% off for two nights, do you prefer WeChat or Alipay?”

The princess syndrome actress :???

The drama queen actress deliberately tried to steal Shang Lu’s spotlight.

But, Shang Lu calmly took out a customized face mask from her bag that was specifically made for the other person’s face and said, “It’s all you, don’t worry, it will all be broadcasted as you.”

The actress : “…”

A tyrannical idol and an unsociable actor almost started a fight, and the show’s staff quickly asked Shang Lu to mediate. Shang Lu, who was enjoying the spectacle, spontaneously hosted, “Ladies and gentlemen, what we are about to show you is the annual boxing championship! The loser will be disfigured and exit the entertainment industry!”

The two people who were about to fight : …

Audience : …we thought we would have fun, but they realized that Shang Lu seemed to be having even more fun than us.

After a series of crazy antics, everyone assumed that Shang Lu must have become a public enemy, but…

No one knows when it started, the “th**ny” celebrities in the entertainment industry who were fearless and unafraid of anything began to act subtly different towards Shang Lu.

The drama queen actress took the initiative to ask Shang Lu for advice on how to play a new role;

The unsociable male actor waited in the scorching sun for three hours to buy a limited edition cake for Shang Lu;

The princess syndrome actress and the irritable male idol almost fought over the opportunity to go to the amusement park with Shang Lu the next day.

Even the infamous tongue-lashing director, who was known to be strict on actors’ performances, publicly said that it was an honor for him if Shang Lu agreed to play the female lead in his movie.

The haters were confused. Where did all the “villains” go? Why did you become Shang Lu’s fan club after participating in the show? This doesn’t make sense!

Later, they found out that there were more “hidden fans” of Shang Lu.

The heir of the top-tier wealthy family, Chi Yan, had a photo of seven-year-old Shang Lu stepping on a little boy’s bu*t as his phone screensaver.

When asked about the reason, Chi Yan replied leisurely, “Can’t you tell? It’s because I have a crush on her.”

Others were shocked.

Wait a minute… isn’t that little boy who was bullied Chi Yan himself?!

What about the secret crush? We can see your wedding ring shining, you know!

Beautiful and sharp-tongued fun-loving salted fish X Arrogant and protective domineering president.

I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did.

The story is really about the MC breaking out of a toxic environment and finding her own way as a person, finding friends and new family along the way. The romance was not the focus - if anything, it was the extra cream on top. It was a lot of fun reading her slowly getting along with the other cast in the variety show, and I liked how each supporting character had distinct personalities and quirks. The dialogue and translation... more>> was good - I liked reading the banter between MC and the supporting characters, it's like reading conversation between normal friends where you make fun of each other. In short, the dialogues were entertaining.

The story arcs (if it can be called such) was also interesting. Each arc kind of 'solved' an issue with a supporting cast, which then paved way in improving the characters' relationship. The thing was, each of them felt... normal. None of them felt manufactured just so there's something to 'solve'. I also liked reading the challenges the variety TV show gave the contestants, they were really entertaining to read, and even better was reading the MC's unorthodox solution to the challenges.

I also liked how, after 'breaking up' with the ex-fiance, she stopped paying him+cheating partner any attention and focused solely on living for herself. The author also did very well in NOT making the ex+cheating partner recurring villains. The MC moved on, and as a reader, it was more interesting to read MC's journey that I'd barely noticed the lack of dramatic face-slapping normally present in this kind of story.

I also liked how the story handled her strained relationship with the remaining birth family - there was no magical solution where they made up and repaired their relationship. If anything, the story tended towards the more realistic approach. MC's trauma and resentment didn't magically go away, but she chose to accept and move on, and the ending showed that at least there's some hope of their relationship improving.

For once in a showbiz novel, the netizens' comments didn't annoy me, as it didn't feel like they went over the top. <<less

I'm debating on putting either 3 stars or 4 stars. I like this story since it started quite strong yet as the story progresses, it gets repetitive. It did make me cry and laugh. Others might not prefer a slow burn, but I like it better. I also love how the romance is not the main focus but you can still feel it in the background. I read many novels and realized I adore a romantic subplot more than a romance novel.

I wish they focused more on her character roles.... more>> I got interested in the storylines. It was intriguing at first but when her movie/show came out, it got boring since the main point of her character role wasn't mentioned or emphasized. Maybe, I am simply being picky. However, I want more scenes of her acting. Compared to other novels, they summarized this one and wrote some parts.

Honestly, adding a system seems useless because it would been better if the conflict was the awakening of her awareness and having an unforeseen future ahead. Our protagonist holds her faith which is managing to defy the fate of the novel and leave her own life.

I also don't seem to like the writing. The translation is okay yet I feel something off from it is written. Perhaps, I've gotten used to novels with a good yet detailed and descriptive narrative. <<less

I don't know why the novel had such high ratings, but it was just average for me. There were some parts that were funny, but it just got tedious after all. I didn't like how the author portrayed the FL so perfectly, like she could do nothing wrong. It was annoying after a while, reading how everyone was fawning over her.

There was one scene in particular that I just could not understand -

Spoiler

When the variety team filmed in the village, Shang Lu and Ye Lu played games against a bunch of poor village children, and won all their candy. When some of the younger children cried, the stars' response was to cry louder and sit on the floor like spoiled children. Their rationale - if the children decide to play, they must be prepared to lose. So the children must be taught a lesson and the candy cannot be returned to them. While I understand and appreciate the lesson to be learned, I doubt if the children actually got the message. And the adult stars were just being big bullies. And despite all of this, everyone still thought that Shang Lu was amazing, charming, funny... Huh?

[collapse]

Another occasion I had to suspend disbelief -

Spoiler

The entire variety cast somehow ended up in the movie. There is no way in hell this could ever happen. A bunch of celebrities who do crazy things and are supposedly hilarious, being cast in a serious thriller? And all of them, with or without acting experience, somehow delivered perfect performances? Were perfectly suited for the roles? Give me a break! No sane investor would put money behind this.

[collapse]

The only character I felt in the novel that was (fairly) believable and truly did no wrong, was the ML. Alas, he was, as the FL put it, a passerby in the novel.

All in, a solid 3, nothing more. <<less

Came for the concept, stayed for the laughs. I haven't laughed so hard from a novel. All the humour is fun, and FMC is a hoot with her dialogue. It's the quality of all the personalities and friendships, and novel easily captures the fun part about variety shows. 10/10, haven't enjoyed myself in so long.

Honestly, I didn't expect to like it this much. It is indeed mostly about her variety show and her finding friends and warmth through it. But I loved so much. Every interaction between her and the people from the variety show felt so adorable to me.

Spoiler

Not every friendship was deep or sentimental and a lot of them had a funny dynamic written all over it. But for someone, who was so sad, desperate for validation and love to rise up and find friends, people she can laugh with, have fun with, and who will shed tears for her; I felt like crying for her. May be because I felt really attached to the FL's character. My most favourite characters would be LYY and SZQ, because they actually had to undergo many changes as compared to their original characters.

[collapse]

The ML has got to be one of my most favourite one after Lu Tingxiao. He has less scenes compared to the variety show celebs tho.
Spoiler

He's so respectful of her emotions and her boundaries, never forcing her to reciprocate, just silently staying by her side so that she never feels lonely, always lets her know that he's got her back. I genuinely cried when they held hands on new year. She finally found a person in front of whom she becomes her own self, childish, petty, vulnerable. The more you read the more it shows. She consoles, chides, supports, comforts others but even as a friend he's the only person in front of whom she throws a tantrum and acts childish.

[collapse]

May her father rot in hell. No backstory can justify the trauma he has inflicted upon his children.
Spoiler

Her brother..I do feel bad for him but I guess its upto her whether she ever chooses to forgive him. I just felt sad that he's all alone. I sincerely hope he finds someone to accompany him.🥲

[collapse]

Kudos to the author for writing the game tasks, and the movie scripts so well! I could picture them all, and they were really fun to read!💗 Worth re-reading! <<less

I don’t know why this isn’t more highly rated. It’s the most hilarious novel I have ever read. The hijinks and tomfoolery takes up most of the novel with some past trauma, serious topics, and romance briefly mixed in. I am only disappointed that there was not more romance, it took a long time for him to finally get together. It was quite nice seeing a boss CEO trope not aggressively pursuing the female lead for a change. He supported her as a friend gradually developing a stronger relationship until... more>> she was ready and couldn’t live without him. He accepted her traumas and was willing to never be married because she was scared. He felt like a green flag the entire way. Love this novel so much. I would caution to not read this in public though. I was embarrassed laughing too much. <<less

Becoming Popular Through The “All Villains” Variety Show- true to its words. With the synopsis MC changes her fate from the original ver of the novel. Maybe it's because of world consciousness / of novel push that's why she had her previous choices in life. In her later diary she's been writing something against what's her doing in real life about her type of man hhaha. Anyways let's go back with the title and the adventure of our MC was funny, touching + founding true friendship. There are lots of... more>> episodes of the variety show up to 12 ep? from the main guests clashing from one another to having a deep friendship. This was nice to read and watch how they transform. Face slapping to some villain/tr*sh guest, and finally a romance for MC nearing the end. Having a family is really hard there are many things to take note of. Yeah MC is not poor but she lived in a 1 parent family with her father trapped in the past. And their father using violence is very No no huhuhu give some pats to Shang mu and Shanglu. Thanks for the author for giving a glimpse of their life without the father further tormenting them, and yeah wishing for Shang mu happiness. There are people/things in life once you have neglected/let go, you can never get it again... <<less

This is how you pull off a villainess white-washing story trope.

Entertaining, straight to the point, no unnecessary dog-blooded drama, karma for the win. I loved reading it, I love Shang Lu, I LOVE Chi Yan. The plot is nothing new: MC finds herself living the life of a villainess in a story & she essentially escapes that role. I think it stands out because she truly does use her own strengths & efforts to leave behind her designed villainess supporting role. Although Chi Yan is there, as our stalwart rich... more>> golden thigh, he’s not the type to really interfere with her business unless it’s absolutely necessary. Shang Lu shines with her personality & charm which makes her interactions with others more enjoyable to read. The characters feel real, the emotions are genuine, & I think there’s enough drama to not feel bored. Definitely a great read if you love showbiz villainess stories. If anything read for Chi Yan because he is *chef’s kisses* <<less

it's really really good. It's very heartwarming acompany Shang Lu's journey from the most hated celebrity to one of the most love during the variety show recordings. You can really feel how she deserves the success.

If you are looking for pure romance this may not be the ideal novel, even though it does have it (it's one of the cutest couples I ever read), is not the principal focus here. But if you are looking for a FL who grows along with the relationships she creates along with the cast,... more>> things like friendship, acceptance, complex family relations, characters growth (not only the FL), here is a good novel. <<less

How can it be so short?! I still want more huhuhuhu.

This story made me addicted that I can't wait for the good translation anymore so I just read the MTL version. It's lighthearted (but heavy hearted at some point), but my most favorite is the (revolutionary) friendship between the 6 lol. Each one of their character design is very distinct from each other, everyone of them is interesting but at the same time, they are more interesting and funny when they are together. It's not like I've never read something... more>> like this, in fact, the last novel I've read was very similar in terms of plot, but still, they are different and has their own uniqueness. For instance, this variety show's agenda was really for chaos at first, who would've thought it will end like that. I can't count how many times I stifled my laughter in the middle of midnight because of this story. I really feel that my spirit was enliven by this novel. Also, it's touching how everyone's attitude gradually changed. From mutual dislike/prejudice to friendship. I really like stories like this which portrays change and friendship.

As for the romance, it's not it's not there, but the variety show and the lives of the 6 members were the focus.

As for the FL, I like her so much as well. She's fun-loving, considerate, kind but not softhearted to those who hurt her, decisive but won't push her enemies to their end, and most of all, she's still optimistic. Regarding her family, her father is a total s*umbag so let's not talk about him anymore. But her brother, I don't know. I can't hate him because of what he'd been through but I can't like him because it doesn't change his mistakes. In short, I understand and empathize with his pain but at the same time, perhaps because of my biasness with the FL, I resent him a little. But tbh, his pain and dislike for the FL were really understandable. Anyway, it's all their rotten father's fault!

Overall, I really had fun when reading this that I'm so regretful that it just ended, there's not even an extra chapters huhuhu. I really wished for more but whatever. 10/10! <<less

Comedy and entertainment wise, it's a 5 star. The characters are very funny and distinct. Their banters are just hilarious. I honestly read it just for laughs alone.

Romance, maybe 3.5. It's pretty average to me and takes about a small percent of the overall novel with the comedy pretty much covering most of it.

The drama? The novel world drama and family drama both felt very lacking to me. Like it didn't really feel to me like it actually had a proper closure neither did it seem like the author wanted... more>> to give focus to it. Og!FL and Og!ML were pretty mediocre and the typical scum-in-the-name-of-true-love. The development to their downfall as well as their conclusion were both anti-climatic. As for MC's family drama, I was hoping for more proper closure for Shang Mu honestly. Like maybe an extra chapter about him. Not that I'm saying his negligence to MC is excusable but I just hope to see him really find healing and peace in himself as a victim because he's left all alone in that mansion, probably also burdened with a company-in-a-crisis, and was kinda told by both the only woman he ever loved and only family he has left that he's a 'past chapter' in their lives. He's mentally broken, and being all alone definitely wouldn't help. Then again the author didn't seem to want to give much focus on the drama but thats a 3.

Also, maybe the story would've been better off without the fantasy elements. The system and novel-world thing seemed unnecessary, really. The system only served as some sort of wake up call for MC and nothing else. And the novel-world setting was practically just really pointless. All that it covered could've passed off as simply just sobering up and seeing things clearly since MC actually clued on it pretty early. <<less

The novel started off very strong but then lost the plot somewhere in the middle. I had really high hopes as the main character seems very intelligent and independent (and she definitely still is). It's just some parts seems unnecessary to the plot. I feel like I have just been reading filler for a while and it's exhausting.

Honestly, I love this novel. I've come back to reread it about three or four times since it finished. I actually really like looking back and seeing the hints dropped about later plot points. You can tell things in this story were actually planned out!

The whole cast of the variety show gets pretty well fleshed out beyond their archetypes, and I like seeing them build relationships, and get up to antics together.

The majority of the novel is lighthearted, comedic, just with a bit of drama, but there's definitely some more... more>> heavy stuff towards the end. Shang Lu's family and Xiao Mi and Song Zeqian's movie, there's all a lot of dark topics touched on. Still, I found it to be intriguing and well-done.

I will say this, if you're looking for a romance story, this isn't it. The romance is really a side plot at best. Chi Yan is a good friend to Shang Lu, someone who loves and supports her unconditionally, and definitely a green flag, but he's not around too much?

All in all, it's a highly recommended read, probably one of my favourites. <<less

I liked the MC's personality. I also appreciate how supportive the ML was as well as her friends. I did not want to give this novel a five star because most of the events in the variety show she was part of felt like filler chapters to me. It would have been better if the author focused on how she handled her family, s*umbag fiancee and his girlfriend instead of prolonging the novel with irrelevant activities detailed in the variety show.

I LOVE IT!

Some viewers think there are plot holes and the reality show part may get long. But I enjoyed it!!

I love the FL she is smart, kind, logical and cute. Not a mary sue who just rely on the other supporting ML. There are no supporting ML throughout the novel, which is refreshing.

The romance is later part of the novel, all throughout are about our FL face slapping and building relationships, her own chosen family.

Interesting novel, but the comedy isn't very funny and a lot of the writing is just netizens online comments. The variety show she is on gets really old really quickly. The games and challenges they had were lame and sometimes borderline cringe. The ex fiance sticks around like a c*ckroach, as does the green tea b. She gets blacklisted but the ex doesn't get his just desserts.

The romance was slow, so slow that I wasn't even that bothered with it. MC is so dense and I felt bad for the... more>> ML. <<less
