Becoming the Delicate and Spoiled Female Side Character in a Romance Novel [80s]

When Lu Yun woke up, she found herself transported into the body of a delicate supporting female character from the 1980s.

This character was a frail and pampered woman who couldn’t handle heavy labor, could only stomach plain steamed buns and white rice, and was destined to marry the male lead.

After facing hardship, she would inevitably leave him, ultimately becoming a contrast to the story’s heroine.

On her very first day in this new life, Lu Yun was pinned against the wall by the story’s villain.

He stared at her intensely, “Why do you refuse the Snowflake Cream I gave you? Why won’t you eat the braised pork I prepared? Do you despise me this much?”

Weak and seemingly incapable of taking care of herself, Lu Yun thought: Wuwuwu, she had finally found her meal ticket!

Author’s Note: The “meal ticket” is a playful term here, as the female lead has an independent career path.

Very bland, tbo I do like porridge novels, but this one was super bland. I also found that a lot was unfair to the ML, and the MC wasn't willful or spoiled or arrogant enough for me to like the fact that the ML is a little servant. At the end, ... more>>

when she decided to come clean, it was really weird how he accepted it, when we are told of his great love for the OG host, tbo it would've been better to see some despair or turmoil, as he comes to terms with her actually being a diff person.

Truthfully I would've dropped it if I hadn't just been using this to fill up time between episodes of a kdrama I'm watching with my mother I probs wouldn't have read it till the end.

The tl is not too bad, but it does switch pronouns sometimes and there's a few sentences that don't make sense. <<less

It had potential but left much to be desired. I think if I did not read the MTL I would appreciate the story more. But as it is, I did not particularly enjoy it. When the translations are finished maybe I will read it again and reconsider my review.

This story had potential but was weighed down by excessive fillers and slow pacing. The female lead was dull, and the male lead cared about her a little too much. It felt much longer than necessary—I even skipped quite a few chapters. Overall, it left a lot to be desired.

It's enjoyable but slow...I've spend a good time reading it. There is no big drama, no angst and the FL is a bit bland. The love story is very down to earth but there are subtiles meanings you have to be attentive some times. I found the FL sometimes too materialistic but we are in the 80's... Thank you to the translator who did a good job-very few errors like mixing "she" and "he" but it's understandable. If you are seeking for a peaceful reading and you want to rest... more>> from some complicated plotline...I recommend it. <<less

its just as the tags say, romance and slice-of-life. there is no drama nor any comedy-just a simple romance and story of the MC and ML's success. the story just goes with the flow occasionally showing bits of other characters' lives and many moments of the mc's family getting along. The MC was not someone who particularly suffered nor was she rich or a genius. she was a normal average human from modern times finding herself in a different era, a novel and decides to give her favorite character a... more>> chance after judging him to be sincere. Their life is filled with bland warmth, yet it feels heartwarming at times.

Its advantage is that its short and fully translated. I would not have the patience to read this otherwise. But yes, if you're looking for a growth type novel from rags-riches and enjoy the different tropes and wish to feel part of the journey then... NOPE THIS AINT IT. it just skims through everything, and I find was pleasant to pass the time with.

the novel never claimed to be anything it's not, it's just mediocre. <<less

I truly enjoyed this. Just lighthearted and no intense dog-blood drama (only issue was OG ML's drama). The trust between leads were also commendable.

FL (Lu Yun) "transmigrated" to novel with date setting of 1988 as the supposed 1st wife of OG ML. System only guided her in first few days but she had no gold finger and her "delicate" constitution limited her movements. In her own simple ways, she took action to avoid OG ML, accept people who loved her and make life better in this life.

For ML (He Cheng... more>> Ah), he was literally greenest flag and doting of FL. Sometimes he's too OP bc he can do almost anything and business genius. I just wished we got more background on how ML fell to FL.

For con, find some unanswered questions (how she ended being married to OG ML at first life, etc) and plothole esp on how system initial said she's the "original", I expected more on these answers. Plus, bad translations in some chapters esp the use of pronouns.

Plus point was the extra 2, it shown that the leads also have happy ending also in first life. <<less

Personally, I find it boring and lacking. I love slice of life very much, and I'm currently on the hunt for completed novels where the theme revolves around being transmigrated/reborn back to 60s-90s so I have read a fair share of novels like this. Initially I was thinking of giving a higher rating just to pull the overall rating of the novel but I found myself hesitating between dropping this as early as 15-20 chaps or just finish the whole thing since it's short anyway. I did pull through but... more>> I still feel like the story was boring. I find the relationship a bit one sided. I don't usually mind if one of the MC has a nonchalant personality but usually authors would elaborate inner feelings more. They would express it in other ways and I would feel it. But in this novel it feels like one has given more and the other keeps receiving and acknowledging the deep love but lacks actions and lacks the thoughtfulness (like what the other review said). Aside from the relationship of the MC, I think the story buildup is also boring, there's no feeling of anticipation. I'm not sure if it's because the story is in the 80s and most of the exciting progression usually happens in the 60s-70s. Well the novel is short so I can't really expect much. <<less

Not bad. But...

Spoiler

I feel like the FL lacks emotion and thoughtfulness for the ML. The ML versus the FL's treatment with each other has miles difference. I dont feel good while reading the first few chapters, I feel like the FL is a little selfish and heartless towards the ML. There are a lot of times that the FL made me cringe and roll eyes on her personality and actions.

[collapse]

I am still at the first few chapters and will edit this review if I decided to continue reading this novel. <<less

I saw some comments saying that FL is kind of weak. That didn't stop me from reading this novel, and finding out that she is not weak at all.

I found out that this novel does not have action for sure nor face slapping, which is so good. This novel is for someone looking for a relaxing read, it's a slice of life and a second chance at that.

FL has in fact a business mind. Since she's from the future she knows what will develop and what not, so the first... more>> thing she decides to do related to business is to open a shop related to what she loved the most - food, more specifically spicy skewers. Then ML is another person with a vision for business, so he too starts as being an entrepreneur for his own business and his friend goes with him, each of them evolve on their own way.

ML and FL do get married and start living together, they buy an apartment and after that apartment FL decides to open a shop in the city they moved to and with their earnings (ML gives his account book to FL) they star to buy more apartments and shops for their business.

ML loves FL so much he is selfless and everything he does is for her. FL is more of a slow person when it comes to love. But she does come to an understanding that she likes ML quite early in the story, the story is quite straightforward, there's no misunderstandings, they are very honest with each other.

FL does tell ML that she comes from the future in the last chapters.

FL's family is very welcoming to FL and her brother's love interests.

They are quite an happy and supportive family.

It's very worth it. <<less

It's well done for a romance slice of life.

We do get what the summary describes in terms of MC's character so if it bothers you to have a weak MC, you might want to stay away.

MC has a kind family in the transmigrated world but had harder life lacking love in her OG world. It's partially why she relates to ML so much. And it's a healing type of relationship. The main focus is on MC and ML's relationship. The story starts with ML already in love with her. Everything... more>> else in the story is just a side filler. The author is quite good at pacing and keeping focus on MC and ML without too much distraction.

Overall well done. Just long enough that I didn't want more. Translation is standard for SF - basically just edited mtl lets be real. <<less

The pacing is good so far and ML/MC are very cute in their interactions. The transmigration is a factor, but not a ridiculous golden finger. A great example of a slice of life novel for relaxed reading. I am looking forward to the rest of the story (especially WHY ML fell in love with MC).

The translation on Shanghai Fantasy is very good at keeping names straight, but occasionally mixes up the gender. Luckily the scenes have been pretty obvious who it is referring to.
