In the palace struggle novel, the ultimate boss, Xie Bufeng, has been void of emotional attachment since childhood, being seen as a monster. The previous emperor, afflicted with a terminal illness, used him for medical experiments, casting him into battle to perish. Unexpectedly, Xie Bufeng climbed out of the pile of corpses, returning to the capital with three thousand cavalry to establish himself as the emperor.

As soon as medical student Wen Qingci exclaimed “awesome!” he found himself transmigrated into the role of a physician experimenting on Xie Bufeng’s body with the notorious black lotus elixir. His eyebrows are dotted with cinnabar and skin as smooth as jade, and being deeply devoted to medicine without distinguishing between good and evil, he was named the “demonic-faced immortal”.

In the end, he was torn apart and fed to vultures.

By the time Wen Qingci arrived, Xie Bufeng had already been captured by the medical department and understood his fate. He was sickly and had a fierce glare, like a wolf cub trapped in a cage, eager to crush Wen Qingci’s throat at any moment. Under the watchful eye of the emperor’s confidant, Wen Qingci flicked his wrist and shoved a piece of candy into Xie Bufeng’s mouth:

“This is a poison that corrodes the intestines. If Your Highness cooperates, an antidote can be obtained once a month.”

Under the surveillance of the emperor and with the ending written in the book, Wen Qingci pretended to conduct serious experiments while secretly trying to detoxify him. He risked his life to save Xie Bufeng from the brink of death. Madness ensued until the day of the palace coup, when Wen Qingci took an arrow meant for Xie Bufeng’s heart.

The new emperor, speaking slowly between his teeth, forced out the words: “After your death, there will be no antidote, and I will have no choice but to accompany you.” Wen Qingci smiled, coughing up a mouthful of blood and shaking his head gently:

“…What I feed to Your Highness is always honey made…by myself…”

A teardrop mixed with blood fell from the corner of Xie Bufeng’s eye.

Ten miles of red wedding decorations welcomed Xie Bufeng’s thin coffin into the palace gates. Xie Bufeng, full of resentment towards gods and ghosts, knelt in front of the temple, offering his blood as sacrifice to the heavens, praying to see him once again. Like a madman.

Outside the city, Wen Qingci faked his death and slipped away. In the Valley of Divine Physicians, a mysterious figure emerged, tending to flowers, reading books, and listening to music, living leisurely and carefree. Until one day, news of the emperor’s old illness recurred, and he was “invited” to the imperial palace.

Before Wen Qingci could figure out how to handle the situation…

The supposed terminally ill new emperor coldly pulled aside the bead curtain, his fingertips as cold as snake scales, slowly unraveling his veil.

Mini Theater:

From birth, Xie Bufeng could hear the evil thoughts in people’s hearts. He grew numb amidst aversion, curses, and malicious suspicions. Only Wen Qingci was an exception.

Xie Bufeng didn’t believe that Wen Qingci’s heart was as clear as a mirror.

Until one day, while the noble and sorrowful palace physician bowed to the emperor and whispered in his heart:

“Shut up, you **.”

Younger, lacks pain, violent wolf cub gong x elegant, sickly weak black-lotus, medical fool, big beauty Shou

Good atmosphere, catches the reader's attention from the first. Good translation as well. One unique point is that ML can read other people's minds when they have wicked/unkind thoughts, and can't find any unkind thoughts in the transmigrated MC's mind!

I love this. The novel got a lot of my favorite ingredients for a delicious read:

✅Sick beauty MC; with blood coughing; selfless and a bit self-sacrificial; kind to people (he's a doctor who actually cared about people's lives) ; smart and talented MC.

✅Wolf cub ML turned possessive and unintentionally "tamed" by MC; plus, ML is younger than MC.

✅MC is ML's only light

✅Fake death (by MC) Yassss So many tearss, so many crying when MC "died" XD

✅Gong regret, realizing he messed up ... more>>
Spoiler

it's not because he's a scum, but there's just some things he misunderstood and some things he did wrong because of this that led to MC getting hurt. He didn't do it on purpose but the regret and guilt upon realizing he hurt MC was still satisfying for me

it was okay. In the beginning I liked it, but by the time MC "dies" and ML is finding out all the things MC did for him, it just felt so??? Almost forced angst in a way. Idk to me it just seemed like the ML was being made to feel so much guilt over things that wasn't his fault.

Usually I like a good angsty "fake death" but for some reason it just didn't hit right for me here. There just wasn't enough investment into what the MC and... more>> ML had between them for it to truly have a heart wrenching impact. The ML becomes emperor after ch 60 or so. Up to this point, that was his entire goal just so he could protect MC, but when I checked the chapter count it's only halfway through leaving me questioning what could possibly come after this now?? It wasn't satisfactory. Not only was this major plot achieved early, it all happens before there is much development between the MC and ml. This is to me, the biggest factor in why even though the fake death angst was sad, it wasn't enjoyable. I can only dread the "misunderstandings" and "wife-chasing" plot afterwards because that is probably where the bulk of the romantic relationship will be built.

I think also contributing to the underwhelming feeling is that the author does skip around a lot and doesn't follow the perspective of the MC. If written well, it would be fine, but this was written like a script for a man hua comic strip rather than a novel, often times cutting from scene to scene, flashbacks, and sometimes to random strangers gossiping. It makes a lot of the emotions and little things feel like a cheap afterthought added only in an attempt to "deepen" the story.

Another thing I felt only made this novel feel a bit underwhelming was the whole plot about the MC being a transmigrator and the ml's mother (consort Lan) being the original protagonist of the novel, and the whole mind-reading thing ML can do. It's barely useful and during important moments, extremely useless. I just felt like there was no point in it up to this point. Again, anytime it's brought back up, it's only for convenience's sake, or serve to cause misunderstandings. Almost like the author forgot about it, and randomly brought it back up once they remembered. This is all not even mentioning what I think about MC. In the beginning, he's already a pretty clear cut character but his development is sort of strange. Maybe there might be a plot twist some time later but who knows I've lost interest.

It would've probably been better and more impactful if the wife chasing plot was intertwined with the first half of the book since it was a major plot, but oh well. In conclusion, it was pretty good in the beginning but my me became sort of underwhelming. Probably won't come back to finish this unless I can't find anything else to read. <<less

transmigrate become a villain, sick beauty MC, obsessive Tyrant ml, Escape with death, it's common Troupe. The MC became a mad doctor who torture ML as medical experiment in the story, the end is cruel death. Of course he try to action less but no ooc. So he begin to treat ML lil bit humanity, so even when his death come his body still intact. The ml, never felt the warm heart from human, can hear bad thought, but he never hear it from the MC. So even though MC... more>> act like mad scientist, the ML slowly melt for him.

The fresh thing about it maybe how the relationship slowly change between the main couple. Also, the ML never treat MC that bad. So I kinda like it, even though sometimes the ML is creepy.

It is good to pass the time <<less

Not bad, it's just kinda boring. It's the typical transmigrated into a bad person, MC is actually a good person and helps people. ML is a guarded wold cub and but he gradually learns to trust and falls in love with MC. MC fakes his death and everyone is sad. ML is ruthless and becomes emperor, dragging MC back to him.

It's not bad if you like these kinds of tropes but it's not super original either. I'm sure I can dig out 4-8 other novels just like this on the... more>> novel updates site alone. The other characters aren't too fleshed out either and they all kind of behave as expected. <<less

2.5 stars but I'll round up. I feel like this book had a lot of missed potential. The set-up was more interesting than a lot of isekai stories, but characters were very 2 dimensional and plot was very simple. I wish the author had built up the complexity - a lot more could've been done with Bufeng's mind-reading.

And for heaven's sakes, show me the 2 year old who can speak in complete sentences lol. That was just unrealistic.

It's alright. I loved the beginning but quickly lost interest after MC fakes his death and leaves the palace around chapter ~60. ML quickly learns about all the sacrifices MC made for him and falls deep into regret for not realizing earlier, but it didn't strike a chord in me even though it was meant to be touching. The romance feels forced. MC used his blood to save ML, gave him gifts, helped him get closer to his family, cared for him in every aspect and........ ML honestly did nothing... more>> but convince himself "he only sees me as a test subject". Brotha...

I don't mind these overused tropes, but I couldn't really get invested in the story bc of the character's weak personalities. MC can be summed up with one word: gentle. Meanwhile ML is a wolf cub who experienced kindness for the first time and quickly became hooked and possessive. I was more interested in MC's interactions with side characters like the 2nd prince and MC's senior brother. <<less

it was really good imo! It does use cliche and common tropes like person transmigrating into a villain and falling in love w a character. But I liked it! The romance was VERY slow burn, they got together in like chapter 95/100. I loved the romance alot, they had genuine chemistry that made my heart flutter! I really loved how human the characters were and how they rose up from the bottom. It also has the trope of faking a death and running away which I love hehe. I really... more>> liked the aspect of medicine in this story. It was honestly pretty indepth and it was interesting as a pre-med student. The ML honestly treated the MC really well too, even though he was betrayed. I do have to say it’s a little boring in the beginning and progresses slow. I also wasnt a fan of their ‘age gap’ its not a big one but it was like 5ish years. But the ML was 15 in the beginning so it was a bit odd. But they only kiss later when the ML was 18ish and they officially get together when hes in his early 20s so. There were quite alot of time skips and im not a fan of that. But regardless this was a fun read <<less

(this was written at 60% progression)

SO FAR.

Overused theme, some generic aspects with its own differences, written pretty safely with stable quality and pace for better or worse. Maybe not at all a masterpiece, but it's still interesting especially for those who like this theme. 7/10

This story is probably build around shou and gong's relationship progress which is very common and valid way to write a romance. It's impressive that author can still make good story with plenty of good side characters to supplement it. Story like this has... more>> its weakness, for me nothing major of in this one.

The writing style, tends to show every steps in linear (with some flashback). I felt I was truly there with them, but I never think I need to be there every steps. I think strategical time skip can be used especially during the time MC faked his death. This part is where I stuck with. Be careful of spoiler:
Spoiler

I was uncomfortable to witness first hand how ML acted crazily after MC's fake death especially when he didn't think whether MC wanted to be found. This is one of my pet peeves when characters don't think MC might have AN opinion. I wish this will be addressed later in the story. But for now it's a bit hard to read.

[collapse]

Beside that, time skip and other perspective can make the story more poignant, polished, or distinguished from similar story. I am just saying the used writing technique is standard.

Is this book worth it? For me it's kind of a good read up until that points where I stuck. I still don't know how it might ends (I may add it later) so the end might justify the means and you might find this really worth it. Everyone have different pet peeves.

I actually like MC quite a lot and a lot of the side characters. Their deepness and complexity might be lacking, but their development and story involvement are enough for this kind of story. Nothing out of place. PS

Spoiler

Plenty readers thought it's illogical for MC to be able to do what he did. I dont think much about this because I am not medical major. I have a feeling it will be explanained later.

Eventually, they’re cute together but I wasn’t really emotionally invested in that whole journey.

First the good stuff: I really liked MC’s character; the doctor skills were impressive and just the right blend of OP mixed with transmigrator insight (modern medicine + future prediction) that made it satisfying to read. His ‘I’m a doctor, I save lives’ shtick was not overly cringey and added to his immortal beauty descended to save the people vibe. The medical analysis and ‘unorthodox’ cures were the most exciting parts for me.

But overall, MC is a... more>> bit bland as a character. He doesn’t really have emotional fluctuations, (and he sees ML who is 15-16 rightfully as a child in the first part) so it all leans on the overly angsty depressed abandoned super emotional ML. It felt like MC’s reaction to ML was driven by pity and his doctor instinct but there didn’t really seem to be that romantic spark. So it’s almost as if I have no choice but to agree with the novel’s general public that ML really be cray cray because it was so one sided. The multi hit angst bullets after MC’s ‘death’ had disappointingly no emotional impact.

As a romance novel... ML is blindly obsessively enamoured with MC because ‘no one treats me like you do’ and MC is with him because... ? ML needs him? Long exposure building affection? Eh, lukewarm. I did like how ML was sensitive and how they showed affection after they got together though.

Other than the confusing transmigration/memory loss plot, it didn’t deliver on romance even though the necessary tropes and cliches were all present. <<less

It's sweet with just the right amount of intrigue. The relationship MC and ML is nice. ML is clearly obsessed with MC but makes his dreams come true so other than being super clingy, he doesn't really control MC. There's some angst in the middle when they get separated but it's pretty short.
Spoiler

I know some people will ask "why did MC go through all the trouble of faking his death and putting the ML through all that anguish." MC grew up his entire life with the knowledge that getting involved with palace politics doesn't lead to a good end. And at that point in the story he knows the ML is important to him but didn't realize how much. So all he can think of is to escape from the palace and go home but he didn't want them looking for him. It's not until ML goes crazy that he realizes both their feelings for each other are way more serious than he thought.
