After hiding her skills for fifteen years, Hua Zhi thought she could live a peaceful life as a proper daughter of a prestigious family. However, when the Hua family’s fortune began to decline, she had to reveal her true abilities to support the crumbling household.

It became common for her to step forward and take charge, to gallop on horseback, and even to carry a coffin with her siblings to face desperate situations. Her reputation as someone not to be crossed spread throughout the city of Beijing.

She was prepared for the possibility of her family turning against her, and she was prepared to grow old alone. What she didn’t expect was for someone to don armor and pledge a lifetime to her before heading off to battle!

It was quite rare for someone to dare marry her in this world!

———

“For those craving a saccharine romance, this tale might feel a bit too grounded. This is a high-stakes adventure where family ties, personal choices, and the consequences of those decisions intertwine. While the plot takes center stage, the budding romance between our leads is a captivating subplot that evolves organically. Forget cardboard cutouts. These characters are flawed, complex individuals who navigate life’s complexities with a refreshing maturity. This isn’t just a love story; it’s a journey of self-discovery and human connection.”

This Is Such a Masterpiece!!!!

I have not watched the series yet but this Author is really Good. I normally would have skipped through pages on books with such volume and length but I read the book in it's entirety. Every character is so well written and there is a purpose to every one of them. The Author even made mention of this in her notes and really delivered on it.

Hua Zhi kind of reminds me of Han Yuxi in terms of her tenacity and how far she gets.

I do understand... more>> the Mature tag because some of the fight and death scenes were hard to swallow. This book has a bit of everything and the Romance scenes were tastefully done. It really delves into the psyche of humans and how not everything is as it seems to be.

The relationships are beautifully done from Hua Zhi and her family, to her maids and the royal family including Shaoyao (low key shipped them), Xiao Liu and Gu Yanxi. Every "villain" has a redeeming quality and you will end up having some sort of emotion (good or bad) at their demise.

Sure HZ was Mary Sue and OP AF but you gotta root for her for how good she balanced all these talents and still came up on top. I only wish the Author had gone easier on her because man, she really took a lot of beating (Literally).

Easily one of my favorites and you must give it a READ.......... <<less

This is a great novel. It's on the same level as Princess Wei Yang so if you're looking for similar reads with a strong female MC that is intelligent more than pretty then this is the novel for you. Although I prefer our MC, Hua Zhi, more than Wei Yang and this novel isn't about revenge or second chances. The MC is from present times where she's a very successful business woman but was eventually killed by her family. She is born back to ancient times as a baby with... more>> memories of her past life. This time, she just wants to be a lazy rice bug and go through life obediently obeying her elders, getting married as they wish, and respecting her husband while raising kids as expected of her. She has no desire to bring forth new inventions/foods or change the laws, etc. Unlike other female protagonists. She's even willing to marry as a main wife then take in concubines for her husband since she doesn't care about falling in love.

So for 15 years, she pretends to be a mediocre first born daughter of the family. The most innovated thing I would say she does is teach one of her maids to cook certain dishes from modern times that she's been craving but this is just for her own consumption so it doesn't cause any waves. She is also very interested in reading and reading was her greatest hobby. The Hua family is a family of scholars so they have a very impressive library. Once, her grandfather found her secretly reading in the library that he started to think she was smarter than she lets on. After realizing how unique she was, he started to dote on her much to the confusion of the rest of the family. If the family never got into trouble, then MC would have married as her elders wished and lived the rest of her life uneventfully. But then where would we get this amazing novel?

Spoiler

In the very beginning, the Hua family was punished by the emperor and all the male masters were exiled to a remote place. The women and children were spared because due to the intervention from the Empress Dowager. After realizing that there was no capable person left to take care of the family, MC finally steps up and asks her grandma for full authority. Her grandma, remembering how much her husband had loved MC, realizes that maybe she was the only chance for the family to get through this tough time so she agreed. With the backing of her grandma, MC finally stabilizes her family and starts rebuilding and investing in new businesses again. She shows unbelievable resilience and determination to help her family and in return, her family obeys and trusts in her vision. Finally in this life, she gains the family love that she never had in her past life. MC breaks off her arranged marriage to the Shen family soon after her family was exiled.

After deciding on canned fruits as her business opportunity she visits the family farm still left to convert it into a workshop. It's here where she finds an intruder and almost dies trying to fight him off. She's saved when ML, who was chasing after the intruder, finally catches up. Then ML's sister, who is the disciple of very famous doctor, helps heal the MC and they start a friendship. This leads to more encounters with ML and eventually turning into love. Most of the novel is about MC trying to bring back her family from exile and restore their family name. Throughout this she is accompanied by ML and her friends/family.

There are intrigues with the royal family and imperial courts. The emperor also does not like the MC even though he has always doted on the ML. I wouldn't say the emperor is the bad guy but he is not a good person to MC up till the very end. Regardless, he does eventually give the MC what she needs and appoints her as the Grand Tutor to the crown prince.

[collapse]

Overall, the story is very complete and heartwarming. There are some very sad scenes but also very enduring ones. The romance is a bit slow at start but ends very intense. The MC has a strong mind and knows what she can and cannot do and this goes all throughout the novel until the very end. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a stable MC who understands and shoulders responsibilities and want a warm family relationship. <<less

I loved the drama. That's why I came for the novel. But the novel got removed from Wattpad even before I got the chance to read chapter 1😭.

However I have read other translations of the translator and I loved them. So I was hoping to read this novel after reading a short novel. But alas😭 I cannot anymore.

Please dear translator please kindly bring back your works especially this one in Wattpad, if you have no problem.🙏🙏

This is the first time I’m writing a review, but I felt I had to for the benefit of future readers.

First of all, thank you so much to the translator for an excellent translation! I truly enjoyed your work.

Secondly, unfortunately, this book was a huge disappointment!!!

... more>> I hate a main character who is a Mary Sue. By the millionth time the protagonist was stabbed, injured, bleeding, or sacrificing herself yet again for something that was always against her own interests, I developed a slight aversion and dislike toward her.

Until the middle of the story, I enjoyed the plot, even though I already recognized that the protagonist was a Mary Sue. Sadly, it only escalated from there. It felt like more and more self-sacrifice and suffering on her part without any purpose.

The male lead also became increasingly irrelevant and useless as the plot progressed.

The emperor didn’t treat him well, as another review suggested, but simply kept him around as a useful tool.

Needless to say, the villains in the story could have been dealt with early on, but of course, then we would have been spared countless scenes of the protagonists suffering over and over again.

In summary, I wouldn’t recommend this at all—huge disappointment and, honestly, pretty pointless. <<less

This story has a really warm feeling of family—I like it. I have a hard time giving a rating to something, but I do recommend this novel.

The MC has a typical was-a-powerful-and-successful-businesswoman-in-her-past-life background, and her competencies in seemingly every area can come off as very Mary Sue-ish. Luckily, the focus of the novel isn't just on starting businesses and making money. The main focus is on how a family in disgrace tries to weather the winds of an uncertain political climate, and the businesses are just a part of MC's... more>> effort to have her family survive. And while she's strong and confident, she's also very warm and loving, written in a believable and consistent way. One of the things that saves her from being a Mary Sue is that she's not superhuman, and the stress and responsibilities will leave her physically exhausted.

The ML has some of your typical character settings—a powerful guy working in the shadows, has lots of money, and has complicated family ties to the imperial family. The author has very skillfully been able to keep his circumstances as a subplot, and despite all his incredible abilities, he doesn't solve the MC's problems for her. His romance with the MC is pretty slow, and he consciously chose not to follow any domineering urges.

Side bonus: the MC's appearance isn't mentioned often. I can just skim past the constant flowery praises that C novels are kinda notorious for, but for those of you who are driven mad by them, here you go. <<less

The novel is truly exceptional, and honestly, it doesn’t deserve the low rating it has received. The storytelling is so well-crafted, with intricate details and a level of depth that draws you in from the very first page. Every character feels fully realized and multidimensional, making it easy to connect with them on a personal level. I honestly lost count of how many times I found myself tearing up throughout the story. The emotions were so raw and real that it felt like a roller coaster ride of highs and... more>> lows, with moments of intense joy, heartbreak, and everything in between. It’s one of those rare reads that stays with you long after you’ve finished it, and I can’t help but feel it deserves far more recognition than it’s been given. <<less

Not finished yet but wanted to give a review while things are fresh, will update once I finish story too, review will contain mild uncovered spoilers

--

Hua Zhi is introduced to us already as a past life munchkin, the protagonist of a rags to riches story whose business destroyed her father and she spent her entire life rebuilding it for the sake of the family and was backstabbed and killed by them in the end (though she also knew it was coming and burned the house metaphorically with them inside as... more>> well)

When she is reborn in ancient times she decides that she earned her rest and plays her role as a dutiful, virtuous invisible legitimate daughter of a noble family and does not make any ripple... until the emperor exiles the male adults in her family and there are only women and small male children under 10 left

She did come to appreciate the Hua's family values as a whole and truly appreciates what they gave her because it's what she most longed for in her previous life, a sense of family bonds, with bickering and scheming yes, but ultimately all united together and willing to link arms and share in sorrow and joy

NOW because of her previous life experience as a CEO she's extremely op. So she ingeniously develops a lot of business and quite frankly her issues are more on "What do I do to get a lot of money quick but that doesn't get the other half of the family exiled or their reputation shattered?". She isn't held back by lack of talent, but by the era's restriction on not only her gender but reputation on both male and female members of her family. Most of the time a lot of the strategies she uses is working carefully to place a rock in the perfect position so that the enemy uses it to smash its own foot instead of her own.

Gu Yanxi is our ML and he has a sob story, but he does not suddenly thaw upon meeting HZ, if anything he is bound by both gratitude and plans to use her and falls flat in his face with his feelings. If you like ML's who would move the earth and stars for FL you'll like this, and like it even more if they respect the FL's bounds, as he realizes very early on that wooing her in traditional ways or forcing her feelings does not work (not that he ever attempted, just cold icy analysis), but kindness is what she is weak against, so he truly becomes kind to her and in the way he also finds the vulnerability he once stamped out with his own hands after his backstory tragedy. This also does not happen very early, even if he announces his intentions to pursue her relatively early on but since she says that she wants to remain business partners he does, any advance in feelings is always initiated by HZ instead of GY

Shao Yao is also GY's sister and a very important person but I do think it'd be a disservice to spoil her story here even in brackets but she is also one of the few remnants of GY's humanity and also one of HZ's sources of comfort in sisterhood.

The emperor here as well is for now the main antagonist and it's not even because he disdains her openly, but because we see his decline in real time from a somewhat decent mediocre ruler, to a tyrant self obsessed with immortal merit and being remembered in the ages, even if there's also a bigger undercurrent mystery of a on the surface prosperous dynasty but that turns out has too many cracks showing and is about to shatter in pieces and she prefers to work herself to exhaustion because she wants her family to survive and thrive rather than face the chaos of a dynasty changing hands

I love that the story lets itself breathe and time feels fast and also slow at the same time, events are not skipped and even things that really don't matter in the grand scheme of things are not fillers, but opportunities to show us the dynamics of the capital, its relationships and cultivate character and lets us feel attached to the characters themselves. And even if ML and FL are close and FL is close to her family, it doesn't shy away from separating them from long stretches of time to cover grounds for their own personal stories and growths.

Sometimes the villains get their just desserts, sometimes they get away with a slap on the wrist, but it's more of a reflection of reality and the power dynamics. This is a nice read, but one that doesn't get easier as it continues but one that gets heavier and denser as you slowly crawl to the source of the mysteries that sparked the conflict. <<less

This is one of the greatest novels I’ve read and the English translation is incredible. My only regret is that I didn’t binge read more before it was removed off of Wattpad today. The heroine isn’t overpowered—though her plans generally succeed, it’s typically because of the relentless work she puts in and the combined contribution of her family, servants, and friends. Please note that this review will have some spoilers, so read at your own risk.

The relationships in this novel are incredibly well-written, especially that of the FL and ML.... more>> The ML doesn’t constrain the FL or blame her for her disdain of the royal family. They actually try to understand each others’ perspectives and treat each other with care and respect. I love the FL’s relationship with Shao Yao for similar reasons.

I also really appreciate that every character in this novel is multifaceted and, in particular, the women aren’t constantly scheming against each other. The family unity of the Hua clan is unmatched!

I hope I can read the rest of this series somehow! <<less

5 stars to upgrade the ratings my real ratings are 4.4 stars, despite several lil problem it had, I must say I satisfied with how it goes, MC indeed an OP character but still it in the line of how it should be. The logic is pretty good, and MC not ooc we can see she grow, our ML it's not useless, both of them are responsible people and care for the country that's why they suffered so much, MC suffering is also not just bitter it carried hope and... more>> sweet. Tho I need to say that author like hyperbolic description about how ML fall for MC with ome glance (somewhat weird and a bit cringe for me but hey.. It get better) and also author like to using flag although sometimes on and off. <<less
