In First Experimental High School, Tao Zhi, a girl of great influence, had always dominated the world of her school and the finals’ examination room.

One day, there were rumors that Miss Tao had somehow fallen in love with the legendary elite student who was the hope of First High in defeating the Affiliated High School— the provincial champion in the college entrance examination, Jiang Qi Huai.

Tao Zhi knew all about the types of girls that this legendary God likes:

1. The girl had to be good and obedient.
2. She needed to have good academic records. Candidates who had the accumulated scores below 700 points were basically out of the question.

Tao Zhi didn’t fit into either criteria, so she relentlessly worked on countless exercises and turned into a ruthless question-answering machine for half a month. Then, she obtained 350 points in the monthly exams.

After the results came out, Tao Zhi blocked Jiang Qi Huai in the small alley. On the surface, their discussion seemed threatening, “Look, I like you this much, so how about you be benevolent and let me take the test again?”

*HEAVY SPOILERS INCOMING*

I clicked on this by accident and got hooked by the summary because I'm a sucker for 'mischievous proactive school tyrant x cold but teasing xueshen' pairing. I read the only translated chapter and it felt interesting so I gritted my teeth and dove into the MTL preparing myself for the incoming headache. It was surprisingly somewhat easy to decipher.

Guys, I stayed up 'til 5 in the morning for this (ᅌᴗᅌ*) my under eyes probably got heavier and darker because there were some parts in the story that... more>> made me tear up a little. I expected to only eat dog food for the rest of the novel but I got splashed in the face with dog blood out of the blue.

FL:

I liked Little Branch (Tan Zhi/ Zhizhi). She is naive and impulsive but I like how straightforward and direct she was when it came to a lot of things. I can kind of relate to her especially when she chased the ML because I'm like that as well when I like someone. She has her flaws but I still like her nonetheless.

When they broke up, I liked how decisive she was in letting go (at least in front of the ML). I liked how she followed his advice of moving forward in her life. I felt like she matured throughout the story.

Tao Zhi doesn't know why everyone thinks Jiang Qihuai is not good.

He is obviously warm and powerful. Even in those years without him, the temperature he brought is still firmly and permanently affecting her. When she is lazy, wants to give up, feels that everything is hard and when she can hardly go on. Tao Zhi once stood alone on the top of the mountain, thinking that she would never find her end.

It was not until many years later that she understood that Jiang Qihuai was never her endpoint, he was always the mountain that silently lifted her up and supported her all the way up. He didn't say a word but silently became all her strength.

Tao Zhi understood that without him, there would probably be no mountaintops for the rest of her life.

When they got back together:

For Tao Zhi, things in the past are in fact the past. There is no need to mention them again. There have been grievances and complaints, but most of them are still distressed and reluctant. People seem to be like this.

When they are injured, they can go on persistently and firmly, but once they indirectly affect important people because of their own reasons, they will begin to question, become confused, and temporarily don't know what to do. Going on, I don't know if my choice is right or wrong. Tao Zhi even put herself in thinking, if she was Jiang Qihuai at the time, would she have made the exact same choice as him? She didn't want him to be imprisoned in the past, what she was looking forward to was the future and future that they would walk together.

When they got back together Part 2:

Jiang Qihuai lacked honesty when he was a teenager, and she was actually a little more impulsive.

It is too difficult to be a perfect person. It is because it is difficult, it is because they will run into a wall, will do something wrong, will regret it, will be unwilling, that they will continue to grow up. No one can be perfect in every aspect from birth.

She held his wrist and lifted it slightly, her fingers pierced between his, their fingers intertwined, and the warm palms pressed together: "Look, we both obviously had faults and misses, but in the end, it's still up to now. This thing is rare enough, it shows how much I like you."

Her Royal Highness Princess Lili (Jiang QiHuai/Ah Huai [I don't know why the MTL translated it this way, it seems funnier though (*⁰▿⁰*) ]) Because of *that incident, * I knew that this little f*cker would retract into his shell and close himself off from Zhizhi. He's very careful and guarded but Zhizhi managed to worm her way into his heart. When he was a child, he grew up in an orphanage so he has some baggage he's carrying. Due to his experiences, he thinks of himself as being in the shadows, and of her being his 'little rose' and his 'sun.'

He's very taciturn and cold at first but I liked how he became slightly more talkative around Little Branch.

When they got back together, he discovered that she still kept his book, hidden away in her bedroom bookshelf. Their names were still written together but with a new addition: '--don't belong together, Zhizhi, Jiang, ' littered with damp watermarks. I actually wanted Zhizhi to torture him a little more before getting back with him but he seems to have regretted what he did sincerely. I reluctantly read on because I just want her to be happy.

"Are you not too happy today?" Tao Zhi said suddenly.

Seeing him like this tonight, it didn't seem like he was drunk. Jiang Qihuai paused, smoothed the wrinkles on the bedsheet, and turned his head. He sat on the edge of the bed and raised his hand to her: "Come."

Tao Zhi walked over and got into his arms.

He smelled very good, not a bad street brand of men's perfume, the laundry detergent mixed with his own breath, just like his whole person, cold and clean. Tao Zhi liked his taste very much. She hugged his waist and buried her head in his arms and rubbed it.

Jiang Qihuai let her rub: "Puppy, you are."

Tao Zhi wrinkled her nose: "So you are not happy?"

Jiang Qihuai hugged her, fingertips wrapped around the wet ends of her long hair. Resting his chin on the top of her hair: "Well, I'm not very happy."

Tao Zhi dragged his other hand in her arms and held him, playing with his fingers: "Why are you not happy?"

Jiang Qihuai put her on his body. The towel was pulled off, and then he pulled the quilt over and wrapped her in, and said in a low voice, "I think I did cruel things to you."

Tao Zhi agreed too much. She nodded deeply, and said painfully: "You should have stopped when I was just getting soft."

Jiang Qihuai: "..."

Tao Zhi accused him, "You are really too cold."

Jiang Qihuai's lips were slightly curved: "You mean this?"

"Then what do you mean?" Tao Zhi was inexplicable.

Jiang Qihuai lowered his head and said calmly, "I was wondering, maybe I should have given you an explanation from the start."

Tao Zhi was stunned, staring at him in a daze.

Jiang Qihuai didn't know if he had been able to be more confident that one day in the future, he would still be so lucky to hold her in his arms, would he have made a choice that was completely different from that at the time. When I was young, I was too naive and immature, and it was always easy to think too much and too little. Worrying about the past, planning for the future, thinking that he rationally makes the most suitable choice, but forgets the frankness, forgetting the present moment, whether this choice will harm the person he wants to protect.

Jiang Qihuai gently hugged her and lifted it up, pressing his head against her neck, and said in a low voice, "I was thinking if I was as brave as my Zhizhi, would I still make you cry?"

I thought I was too old for school romance novels but I guess I'm still young at heart (˘͈ ᵕ ˘͈♡) There was one point in the story where I thought she was still a child though. Ever since Zhizhi gave him new textbooks, I felt like there was this ambiguous tension between them. I was squirming and violently gushing over them on my bed. That or I'm just lacking romance in my life lately haha.

I also like the side couple. I actually had my 'shoujo-senses' tingling when I read their interactions. Turns out I was right (ღˇᴗˇ)

How fast the main couple got together was how long these two fell in love with each other. I like how slow-burn their love was. The main story ends in 86 chapters, the rest were dedicated to these two.

FXL was timid because of being bullied during her elementary and junior high days while JF was short-tempered and likes to fight with others the way a hot-blooded youth is.

I quite like these two as well. He constantly adjusted to her and tried to not make her uncomfortable.

He repeated a year just so he can go to her university. Went abroad to pursue his education because he remembers she likes serious guys. There was that time with the nickname-calling as well. They are honestly soooo cute.

These two show how long it will take if there is no proactive partner in a pairing hahaha Their story has its own charms though.

This story may or may not be your cup of tea but I suggest you give it a try for at least 10 chapters. It's very refreshing in a youthful kind of way. I kinda thought of them as little kids stumbling as they learn to walk in life and I am honestly satisfied albeit, left a bit wanting for more, when I read the very last chapter.

Before I end this lengthy review (I think this is more like a spoiler already lol), let me share this passage I really liked:

Tao Zhi had always felt that there was a regret that could not be made up between them anyway because what they missed was each other's best years.

But at this moment, she suddenly felt that the definition of the best time should not be judged by age. It can be the best when you are in your teens, or you can be in your twenties. If you can only meet the most worthwhile things and the people you love until you are thirty, then the best age is thirty.

It is not that I met you at the best time, but from the day I met you, every day for the rest of my life will be the best time in my life.

tbh, I dont expect such twists and turns from this novel. I thought initially this one going to be an OP kind of novel, but oh my did I guess it wrong

ML and FL met during high school, around 2nd year. Yes, ML is your type of smart-and-handsome scholar. But too bad this one is not op novel so ML in here has lots of weaknesses but it what makes him quite real lol. FL used to be smart but because one and another things, she starts to become school... more>> bully (as in helping others when get bullied)

it's just like FL is the sunny type while ML is the ice cold one. In their relationship, FL is the active one, at least during their high shool. It's crytal clear that FL likes ML more and because she likes him more then she's on the lose side already which makes it's saddening. Also ML has lots of things to worry about and falling in love is the last one

well, but ML really lower his limits for FL, accepts FL for who she really is, tries hard to change his future but I just somehow feel like his feeling is not enough. Or maybe in love everyone is not equal?

butttt, sadly, well tho I think they dont explicitly breakup, they indeed went their own way. During 6 months, they went from enemies, friends, lovers, and ex-lovers lol. The main reason they broke up I think because they are too young and the problem they are facing at that time is really out of their capabilities. if im being honest, I think ML has it easy in this relationship. FL is the one who fights for both relationship (well maybe because we dont know ML's POV but anyway). Even I agree when FL said that she is the most tolerant. I mean who can deal with this? It's just like ML comes when he wants to come and goes when he wants to go. Never pay attention to FL's feelings and he didnt believe in her feelings. Well this one might be because his past experience and his responsibilities toward live. FL is not you prince charming and son of heaven. He has to do part time job, tutoring, etc. And even has a shitty father

from this novel I firmly believe that we have to be grateful when we grown up or have a good family-environment when your parents support your decision, doesnt do anything bad. I just realize that this thing that we mostly neglect about, is such a privilege for others. And also I love it when FL says that growing up means that you will need to face much more suffering <<less

I already swooned from the first chap! (≧ロ≦) Aaaah! I always crave for cool, wild and rogue characters AAAND definitely that kind of crude and clumsy yet still the same classic romance (which had not happened yet by the way but I'm expecting to! Don't stop me, I just feel it cominggg) Now I def hold so much expectation for this one, there's just so much potential here.

A little comment about the translation. Chapter 36 is missing the first half of it's chapter. And chapter 72 is missing the second half of it's chapter. It's sad that these missing parts have pretty important plot.

the novel started light and humorous but the twist and turns of life for both ML and FL started shifting as they grow up. I wouldn't say it was heavy, but I can't say it's light hearted either. it's an early romance of youth that was destined to go through the test of time, reality of life, and maturing.

FL

    • young, arrogant, stubborn, impulsive, spoiled, and defintely princess-y but she's righteous and easy going with a big heart.
    • her progress in studies was a nice touch of reality. it was a gradual progress. she didn't immediately achieved her goal of 700 pts in one fell swoop. tho she has the foundation as she used to be an achiever, but her knowledge remained stagnant from all those years she neglected her studies, so it was fulfilling to see how she worked hard for it and eventually achieving it.
    • as grown up, she didn't change much, tho her perspectives in life broadened and she became more understanding.
ML

    • typical indifferent and smart with a hint of laziness in his bone ml.
    • hardworking ML who works multiple jobs bc he wants to breaks from his family's issues.
    • as grown up, he didn't changed much. but he def realized the mistakes he made bc of his choices in the past.
ML and FL

    • as teenagers, they like to bicker with one another. no one wants to lose. their first meeting didn't really end well so that's where their nonstop bickering started.
    • FL neglects her studies, while ML is a smart and achiever student. FL is not really s*upid, alright, she just couldn't be bothered to use her brain and tire herself out lol.
    • and just like how it was described in synopsis, she indeed tried to pursue ML by achieving a 700 score in exam.
    • can I just say I love how they call each other Your Highness and Princess? they're so cute
    • fl's image always collapsed in front of ML it's so hilariously embarassing tbh
    • FL likes to suddenly act a role and ML is always helpless when it comes to her and just go with the flow with her antics even before he likes her lmao

they would eventually separate. there's this brewing reasons in the background that's bound to eventually separate them due to ml's father.

ml's decision to separate is something I can't blame him. they're too young at that time, and he was put in a position where whatever decision he make will possibly drag the FL down with him. both of them were young, he's still not capable of fully standing on his own while trying to protect the FL and taking care of his grandpa and at the same time guarding against his father. and for him at time, that was the best decision. and for me, it is. the only thing I can find fault in him was, he should've told the FL his reasons and explained his thoughts. bc FL misunderstood that his level of likeness towards her was never as deep as hers.

the FL indeed has a big heart bc despite initially turning down the ml's move in coming to her life, she still easily forgives and accepted him. I'm just glad it didn't drag off too far bc it wasn't really an unpleasant break up. it's just circumstances in life have to happen to make them mature and grow up. FL thinks the ML underestimated her feelings for him and not trusting her and his self that they'll eventually make it together. indeed, ML admittedly realized that he indeed underestimated her feelings for him that time. I'm glad he realized and wasn't too late to make up for it. but for me, his decision is for the best of them. reuniting, they have their own careers, much stable life esp for ML and no burdens that will drag down his growth, and both of them matured in life. I believe that they grew up separately for years just so they can be reunited back together much stronger for a lifetime.

    • their family dynamics is so humorous to read.
    • one of the normal parents i've read in novels tbh.
    • there are decisions of their parents I don't agree on but I can see that they really tried to provide and give their children a better life unlike most novel parents who are just pure evil through and through.
    • the FL and her twin bro has the typical sibling dynamic where they always like to bicker and hit each other but they always got each other's back.
    • i thought i'll eventually dislike the mom but

i can't fully dislike her. her decision of keeping her illness a secret to her children at first and not contacting them is something i'll never understand. bc don't you want to spend your last days with them? didn't you ever think that staying away from them is also causing them pain?

i can't fully dislike the mom but I can't fully like her either. she made the FL felt she was less favored. the FL used to be an achiever but was taken for granted and for me, this is one of the reasons why she eventually neglected her studies bc they used to take it for granted, tho it was never fully stated. additionally, if I didn't read it wrong, she didn't even properly said goodbye to FL when she left with her twin brother. just like what the FL said, separation and distance eventually revealed who she favors more. unfortunately, no matter how her mom tried to love them equally, the answer wasn't her. but despite this, I saw through FL that the mom really tried hard to guide and love them while their dad was away to provide for their family. it's just that no parents can truly equally love their children. there will always be who weights more. but just like what the FL felt, although she wasn't the favored one, she wasn't loved less hence she never resent her mom and only felt pain.

he first want the FL to have no connections with the ML bc of his family's past. tho he was never forceful abt it and tried to calmly discuss it with his kids which I give him points for. but the dad is too rational in seeing things to the point he sometimes lack emotions to support his decisions. just like whenever the FL got into trouble he sees it rationally and forgot to even ask how the FL felt, whether she was hurt or wronged. he thinks too rationally that he forgot to give comfort and be empathetic. tho I never doubted his love for his kids bc I can see how he works to provide for them, not wanting them to also experience his poor and hard life before.

his decision to separate ML and FL is indeed unfair for the ML bc his family is not something he can choose. he tried hard to break free from it but no matter what ppl will still not let him get away. but at the same time, I understand his thoughts and worries. ppl are inherently selfish, esp when it comes to their loved ones. the FL got hurt bc of the ml's father so how can the fl's dad not care. whenever I think abt it and put myself in his shoes, I can't say I will not choose to do the same. the good thing is, tho he was against it, he was never rude and even when he was angry bc his daughter got hurt, he didn't let it get to his head and project it to ml. and when they eventually got back together, he wasn't a villain that was against to their rs. he respected his daughter's decision and warmed up and welcomed the ML to their family.

one thing I'm sad abt is

the ml's grandpa didn't even had the chance to see the ML and FL got back together. he was one of the first ppl who witnessed their relationship.

it also breaks my heart how he choose to end it all just so he won't drag his grandson down any longer. i'll forever be the ml's dad's hater.

grandpa was the first color in ml's life and to lose him at the time when even his sun (the fl) wasn't with him hurts me badly. he must be feeling that there's no longer color and light in his life bc the two most important ppl in his life wasn't with him and was unable to protect them.

when the ml's father hurt the fl, he said something about "... you look a lot like that dead child..." along with those lines if I remember it correctly tho it was never mentioned and cleared again but it feels out of nowhere. perhaps it's not significant..? it just somehow bugged me off lol

overall, a nice read to pass the time. it just feels a little bit lacking bc there's no translated extras and I'm lazy to search for the mtl.
