Sneaky Bad Boy & Flirty Shou

Xie Ci’s life started off in ruins. Abandoned by his parents and mistreated by malicious relatives, he learned early on that nothing is reliable except money.

In his previous life, he buried himself in his career, building his business empire. Many in his circle called him a madman, willing to marry a man for profit.

The high-intensity work consumed his life, and his superficial marriage fell apart, even leading to his partner’s tragic death.

His chaotic life was completely destroyed the moment the explosives went off.

After being reborn, Xie Ci wanted to slow down, enjoy the present, and experience the fun of being a poor kid again. But Gu Yufeng’s behavior was odd, always looking at him with a complex, pitying gaze.

When his cousin gave him a hard time, the next day, the cousin broke his leg.

When he helped his uncle with his street stall, a lunatic came and took everything, leaving a wad of cash behind.

Even the cafeteria auntie was unusually generous, giving him a plate full of meat and warmly encouraging him to eat more, saying there was plenty.

Xie Ci turned his head in confusion, and sure enough, saw a certain handsome guy at the back of the line sneaking a smile. Not only did the style change, but it was also quite improper—

A group of people sneaked out for a late-night snack, and Xie Ci handed Gu Yufeng a toothpick.

Gu Yufeng didn’t take it: “No need, I’m really good at sucking.”

Xie Ci: “Sucking what?”

Gu Yufeng: “Of course, sucking that…”

Everyone: “Hmm?”

He smiled slightly: “That snail.”

Xie Ci nodded: “I thought you meant sucking that…”

Everyone: “Hmm?!”

He said slowly: “That snail’s butt.”

Everyone: “…” I suspect you guys are being suggestive!

The marriage between the founder of the Xie Group and the only son of the Gu family was a sensation, and no one thought it would last. But five years later, the two major groups had formed a powerful alliance, and Xie Ci and Gu Yufeng became known as a perfect couple.

Only Gu Yufeng knew that this marriage was a joke, as in Xie Ci’s world, there was only himself.

After a big fight over a third party, Gu Yufeng suddenly found himself back at seventeen, ready to settle the score with Xie Ci. But the pale, often injured, and truant teenager was the same old fox from his family who never blinked when causing trouble?

Gu Yufeng sat in the car, watching Xie Ci setting up a street stall across the street, frowning: Go buy all those Ultraman figures from that stall.

Driver: Huh? Weren’t you here to settle the score with him?

Gu Yufeng: Fatten him up first, dealing with such a pitiful guy is no fun.

Driver: …

I've read this 3 times now and really enjoyed it

This is a fun story for readers who enjoy a dual-protagonist story. The MC/ML have an interesting back-and-forth from being former husbands in their previous life, both have regrets and deep unspoken love for each other. The MC's original life was hard, filled with ab*se and neglect (We see bits of his past life at the start, but he changes a lot of the bad stuff by chapter 25). The ML is a flirty rich kid, but he's got a lot... more>> of insecurity and other emotional issues from being groomed to be an heir for most of his life.

At the heart of this story is the romance between the MC and ML. They're the reason why you read 108 chapters, the flirtation, courtship, and charm between two boys cohabiting and supporting each other are on full display. The way the ML helps the MC was very cute at the beginning, then the MC's actions of jumping in to protect the ML is endearing. The reason why they broke up in their last life is funny and kind of sad when you realize it, ultimately they were trying too hard last life, not that they didn't love each other.

The Setting for the majority of the story is set in a high school in a fictional Chinese city, where the MC develops friendships and the ML gets closer to his former husband. Seeing the two boys play off each other's words and actions is like watching a real couple figure themselves out. It's a charming story with the idea that they're each other's company in this life, when they were isolated in their last life as kids. On my second reading, I realized that both boys needed each other's company to live happier.

There's some gold-finger MC stuff, sure, but it's not that kind of story. The MC doesn't come off as a gary-stu character, he's imperfect and adult about most situations. Love his interactions with his father, who has depression, it's very chill and realistic on how mental health issues affect familial bonds.

As for the s*xual orientation, I think the author or Chinese Danmei needs to consider Asexuality or demisexuals to be a proper concept. Both the MC and ML don't form relationships with men or women, MC showed no interest at all unless he's experiencing things with ML, for instance. Just an observation that a lot of people both in the story and outside don't seem to understand with same-s*x relationships, rather than just calling it gay or homosexual.

It's low-heat, most of the smut is fade to black or just innuendoes.

I think it's worth a read for folks who enjoy a good romance story with a bit of everything. <<less

The whole novel is centered on the relationship of MC and ML. And it's highly realistic, despite the rebirth theme. They have their family, enemies, and so on.

About relationship, the other review has already written well. I don't think I have anything to add on. There might be spoilers below despite me putting most of them in the spoiler box.

It's been a long time since I wrote a review... Might be confusing to read.

Most of all, no one feels like a cannon fodder in this story no matter on which... more>> side they are.

Even minor characters like Ye Hang (?),

was mentioned later on, and was shown repenting of his childish actions. By mentioning Ye Hang, I'm giving an example of a character who could have been a little villain but despite being a little villainous, he's actually has an uncontrollable mouth, he speaks before he thinks, even when knowing it's wrong. Just like a real living person, with goods and bads.

That Xie Jinyan, a minor villain on bad side. He can be said to be a typical Cannon fodder. But he had his decent screen time, that's not often given to the cannon fodders. Side characters no matter how minor often show presence in memories or reunion, depending on the circumstances.

Another example of reality is that in many of novels I have read it's like there's bound to be an MC who will have superb background or like that, all his enemies would have bad ends with limited screening time, cause there would be new enemies incoming too, and all his family members who are good to him will definitely have their own happy endings, or he will find his disappeared relatives and have bonded with them too.

But this didn't happen here. Although Xie Ci was

given a background, this background was a trouble and he didn't even use it till the end

Even the ML. Well, his setting is that he has good family and is pampered on both sides.

The only flaw being his father and mother relationship. But this isn't patched up even at the end. Just a normal ending to it.

But no matter which character it is, it feels fleshed out. Won't give you a sense of OOC (IRL, everyone has different sides to show depending on the person they are with or talking to) and by OOC not happening I mean that for the same person they won't suddenly have different kinds of personality but at the same time you can glance at the different personality they show to different people around them.

Conclusion: Superb novel. Worth reading. Everything feels fleshed out. Relationship dynamics are great too. <<less
