For the purpose of his live broadcast, Ji Xingchen pretended to be a cute girl to tease his team’s wild king gege in a game.

In line with his principle that as long as he slipped away fast enough he could not be deemed Aquaman, Ji Xingchen tossed the wild king gege to the back of his mind immediately after the game ended.

Who would have thought, when he returned back from the toilet, that there would be a big boss in his broadcast room fiercely brushing hundreds of thousands of gifts.

Ji Xingchen became dumbfounded: Big boss, you. . .did you get the wrong person?

The big boss: No mistake.

The big boss: I was the Li Bai from last game.

Ji Xingchen: Holy shit.

This was the wild king gege he had just teased!

When asked about his ideal type, peak-popularity Ran Feng always remained silent.

But one day, his fans discovered that their idol had actually admitted his type was someone who could play games well.

The fans: I’m here! Load faster, King of Glory!

At King of Glory’s Professional League finals, Ji Xingchen agreed to meet offline with a big boss from his list.

Ji Xingchen waited a long time for the big boss at their agreed-on location, only to meet not the boss but an old acquaintance.

The man was leaning against the corner of two walls, a cigarette indolently dangling from his lips. His slightly raised peach blossom eyes contained deep emotions.

Ran Feng pressed out the cigarette with his hand, and trapped Ji Xingchen between his arms.

In the lingering smoke, he softly kissed the corner of Ji Xingchen’s lips.

“Don’t you remember who I am? Will you disappear this time, too?”

Extremely beautiful anchor shou X deeply in love and dedicated celebrity gong.

Honestly, on some parts I do agree with Justalittlechesspiece. The MC is contradictory, but it gets explained with a reasoning that mostly makes sense. It's weird that he ran after meeting with the ML, but if I met with my crush in an unexpected place, my first instinct would probably be to run, so I don't think it's that terrible. Though, I agree the meet-up could have been done better, especially with all the blushing and the "like a trapped bunny" part.

There is some drama (not just some) and it... more>> feels like a mix between a showbiz and live-streaming novel. The repetitiveness that happens a lot in live-streaming novels doesn't happen here a lot, but you can tell it does follow a certain format. The format itself repeats (MC livestreams, drama happens, MC is amazing at the game, everyone is awestruck, anti-fans that get face-slapped, ML shows up and supports MC, MC and ML have a lot of CP fans), but the plot filling the format is different each time, so it didn't feel overly repetitive while I was reading it.

It has unrealistic parts (yes, it's a novel), and parts that feel a bit off and don't fit in, but overall it's not a bad novel to pass your time with. Don't think too deep into this. Sorry for the bad English and have a nice day. <<less

The story is cute and fluffy. Good to pass time and not think too much.

The story mainly focused on the games, the lead's relationship, and reconnection. Last 30 chapters is essentially clearing up the misunderstandings and the honeymoon period.

The two things that irked me, however, is the dragged out meeting and the MC's mother.

I felt that xingchen wanting to run away when they finally met was a bit redundant. Yes I understood his reason for it but I felt that the only reason the author put it in was to... more>> create unnecessary drama. And the way Xingchen was written was just... like a damsel in distress of a c-drama.

As for the mother... she's not the best. And I'm putting it very nicely. Plus, I may have misunderstood the mtl but Xingchen's mother
Spoiler

became paranoid about the him loving the Ran Feng (ML). By paranoid I mean by stopping it.

I have to note that the Xingchen's father died and the MC's mother has stomach cancer. Then she read Xingchen's dairy and confronted Xingchen about it, to which, Xingchen admitted his love for Ran Feng.

Xingchen's mother told him that he was still young and his mind may change. It felt like she was supporting him, but then she hounded him about who he was calling, what he was doing (even if he left to cook for a while), and asking all the nitty gritty details of his life while not allowing Xingchen to go out and work so he could pay off her medical bills and his father's debt.

It got so bad to the point where he deleted everything about Ran Feng and was literally crying in his sleep and calling out the ML's name.

Like what the heck?

You'd think she'd have the decency to let her child be happy after what happened to her husband and the responsibilities he now has to carry, but no, she really pushed him down mentally.

[collapse]

That bit irked me a lot. Especially, after it ended with her agreeing with a letter after 3 years.

Granted it is mtl and the sentences may string weirdly but reading that made my mood sour.

Overall, it's a nice story with a few tidbits that didn't fit well imo.

3.5/5

3/5. NU doesn't let me change the rating.

I think the MC is very contradictory. I only managed to get through it by skipping large chunks of his thought process. Essentially all his flashback memory scenes/ wondering why he wants to be close but wants to run away from the ML - I skipped ALL of that. Annoying and useless filler that just detracted from the story progression. Story is perfectly understandable even without all that since the author keeps making summaries/ references over and over.

I hated so many supporting characters.... more>> Like I'm not sure whether that is what friends do in the real world and I'm just that unlucky kid that have friends that actually respect my opinion, but I HATED how some people (mo yuzhe) just kept intruding on people. Like the author writes it like they're good friends and he treats them as brothers but like. I'd hate it if I told a friend "no, I don't want to do this" or that I told them to leave my house and they just take it as oh since they're my friend I get to decide for me. Like I get that the author essentially designed such a spineless damsel in distress who can't do anything for himself and has to create such 1 sided characters that he literally only pulls into the story whenever he needs someone to drive the plot forward (and then explains his disappearance from the entire story for the past 10 chapters as he went somewhere filming but hey he's back now) but it just ruins the story for me.

Ranting but I really hated that guy. He would even say "I feel like I'm being a lightbulb" and then proceeds to continue being a light bulb with 0 awareness.
Spoiler

Like fk. I'm at the part where he finds out about their relationship and I got so mad I had to make this review. Note, they didn't even choose to inform him. He just self invited himself to their place cause he feels like he's entitled to it. Fk man. Leave them alone.

This is such a sweet story, both MC and ML had never stopped loving each other all those years they separated. The MC shouldn’t have just disappeared without saying anything causing the both of them to be in so much pain and longing for each other but I guess all the things that happened to him, he felt that they were too far apart. I’m glad the ML persisted and they were able to be together. Sweet read.

Not sure why this is receiving less than 4 ⭐️ for ratings, but it's really not bad. Its a little slow, albeit both MC and ML are already in love w each other, but they take 50% of the novel to finally meet each other irl. But after that things got really sweet. Basically, if you're looking for a simple, sweet, fluffy, no brain novel, this is the one.

There were a lot of my favourite tropes executed averagely well—hidden identities & digging pits for yourself unknowingly, powerful & talented leads somehow being OP... in fact the romance bits leading up to the final physical meet up was all very cute and funny. The scene where they eventually met face to face had oooh nice tension.

Where this novel falls a bit short for me:

  • Gaming plot: 1) feels like MC is just conveniently talented, good-looking and charismatic for the sake of it. 2) the gaming bits should either be less detailed or more detailed. At this level, it tries to create some exciting fights but it kind of falls a bit flat. I would rather it either go even less into the exact gaming mechanics (buffs, dragon), or it needs to go beyond XYZ game character did this pentakill etc.
  • Somehow I didn’t feel that backstory angst build up. Like the villain family was zoomed over resolved in one chapter, and the dark history was kind of described cut and dice here it is kind of way? Which was a pity because I wished it leaned into a lot more, as it is pivotal to the whole separation-unrequited love thing, which at some point I was like uh it’s so obvious just get together already.
  • Which brings me to my next point of how oblivious is our MC? LOL. I usually like the pursuit of a thick MC but for someone who seems quite sociable with a high EQ, it feels like he should have figured it out earlier.
  • All the other characters (not MC/ML) felt like plot props to make the leads look even better & more OP. Even the side couple felt a bit random.
Overall cute but there are other similar type novels that have better execution. Would rather reread those.

Translation is good, but there are some bits that could... more>> be clearer (like using the same “speech” when referencing). <<less

tbh not as bad as what the other reviews said but maybe its because of personal preference. But I almost chose not to read this because of the somewhat mehh reviews 😭 anyways all I can say is please try reading a few chapters before you decide whether this is it for you or not first.

i found the novel to be pretty cute though there are some angsty parts regarding both the MC and ML's past. Butbut overall its still a very cute and fluffy novel mainly revolving around the... more>> MC and ML (which is technically normal). However they did leave a few loose strands for example the side couple's relationship progress or updates and the dude Jingze.

The villains of this novel did get their retribution although its a very summarised type. Would love it more if they spread it out a little to explain further because I love love reading the downfall of bad people!! HAHAHA

  • But I would definitely rate this a 4.5 ⭐️ because of our super cute and kind MC and extremely doting ML 🤭

This novel composed mostly of gaming and entertainment genre, with e-sports as background. There's angst that is minimal albeit it hurts particularly Xiangxiang's past. Like damn, he really deserves compensation from heaven.

The reason why I rated it 3 stars is that it lacked sufficient retribution for the evil perpetrators, lack of disclosure for the villains and other side characters, and lack of clarifications.

Spoiler

That r*pist, pe*verted Producer Shen and that useless money-grubbing former agent of Jingze (the white-eyed wolf who wasn't content and selfish) didn't get their rightful retribution. Honestly, I did pity him at first. He almost got r*ped and was tricked by this former immoral agent to have a 'dinner' with Dog Shen and that's the time he almost got r*ped. If it weren't for Ran Feng accidentally entering the room they were in, he would have violated by this bastard. There's no mention in the novel that these two perpetrators were arrested or apprehended. It was just mentioned that Dog Shen tried to harass Jingze again but Ran Feng intervened because Jingze came crying to him and felt sorry for him. Meanwhile, this former agent was just replaced by Li Na, Ran Fen's agent. The fact that these two didn't get their retribution makes me uncomfortable, really uncomfortable. The story focused too much on fluff that the Author forgot to uphold justice for the character, even if this character is just a supporting character. Well, he isn't the focus of the story but it would be much more satisfying if the evil-doers get their own karma in detail. In real life, no one deserved such a treatment. And Jingze, even though he's just a small character, and even if he became famewhore, insatiable, scheming fool, he doe not deserve it.

    1. Next, let's talk about Jingze. Well, this evil-doer did get his retribution. However, it was a bit too lacking in my opinion. His bullying of Xiangxiang was known to many since he's famous himself and Xiangxiang is already a well-known streamer at that time. He plays the victim role in this one but one post revealed the truth that be thought was already covered up as a history. As we all know, when Jingze was still an unknown star, he offended Producer Shen when he refused his advances and it's Ran Feng who helped him. Although the insider did not mention the attempted assault, he did mention that it's Ran Feng who helped him. He also revealed that it's also Ran Feng who willingly appeared in his one MV as a cameo role. This was the root cause of Jingze and Ran Feng's CP to emerge. But not only was Jingze ungrateful. He was also selfish, a big liar. He wasn't contented and wants to become famous quickly. Large part of it was because Jingze likes Ran Feng. The latter helped the former a lot. But Ran Feng already has someone in his heart since he was 17. Him entering the entertainment circle was because he wants his one and only star to easily find him. However, Jingze's actions of hyping their CP irritated Ran Feng. As a result, the latter dismantled this CP. But despite that, Jingze still tried to garner attention by trying to compete against Ran Feng as seen in the album sales fight (albeit just a one-sided fight; it's Jingze's party who were trying hard to increase the album sales while iFeng were just ignoring them just as the leader of iFeng had instructed them - not to engage in a fight with JZ's abnormal fans) and also that time when he bullied Xiangxiang in a game due to jealousy. He can't accept that all of Ran Feng's taboos weren't applicable to that person, that that person is the exception. It was mentioned in the novel that this insider's post has enlightened people both in the Livestreaming and entertainment industry. As a result, Jingze lost 200, 000 fans overnight and a number of his fans felt betrayed and turned back at him. Netizens told him to stop harassing Jingze. In short, his ungrateful and insatiable nature was revealed to many. He and his has the nerve to bully soft persimmons but doesn't dare confront an eagle. He was just also a nobody back then. Truly a wench who doesn't deserve sympathy. Indeed he was pitiful back then, but his lack of contentment and delusions with Ran Feng pushed him to his own downfall. After that, he wasn't mentioned anymore. Well we can imagine what might have happened to him after those originally sesame-sized issue got bigger due to himself and his abnormal fans who keeps stirring the dirty water that was splashed back at them. But it would be better if it was discussed in more detail. After all, Xiangxiang is the Author's baby. Thus, it would be better if this villain's karma is detailed.
    1. Finally, there should have been clarifications. The only time that Ran Feng truly helped Jingze is the attempted assault and MV appearance. That part where Jingze was given a new agent and was rented an apartment with a low price is due to Li Na's pity. In chapter 77:

She vaguely felt that Jingze was clinging so close to Ran Feng because he liked him, especially after yesterday's incident, which made it even more obvious. But she couldn't escape the responsibility for the current situation.

Although Ran Feng didn't say anything after she saved Jingze years ago, she still heard about his experience from other people in the industry.

At that time, she had just become a mother, and it was a time of overflowing maternal love. Seeing Jingze pitiful and ostracized, she rented her own apartment to him at a low price, and even helped him find a new agent and job.

At the time, it was a terrible experience because Jingze was almost r*ped, and she didn't want to directly intervene fearing it might upset him. So she asked Ran Feng, Jingze's savior, to take care of him more.

So Ran Feng looked after him for a while, taught him some things, and in the end, he did a good deed and shot a music video for him for free.

In the industry, these were just ordinary favors, and Ran Feng didn't judge the person. Whether it was Jingze or anyone else in the industry, he would help whoever needed it.

This kind of thing, normal people would just be grateful, but who knew Jingze would be so presumptuous and keep doing it over and over again.

Back then, Jingze thought he is special which is why he is being stubborn when in came to associating himself and Ran Feng. He thought he can be more than just a junior. He wants to get closer to Ran Feng. It annoyed not only the person himself but also this annoyed party's fans.

I don't care if it wasn't publicized. It's enough already if he was enlightened so he can stop being delusional. It's true that reality slapped him hard when Ran Feng helped his wife Xiangxiang by sending him confession balloons and saying sweet words towards XX, talking only to XX, showing off his affection toward XX in the Livestream, without even talking to him. But if clarifications were made, the truth will stop him from being stubborn.

Another dissatisfaction I have is that Author rushed the ending. I can feel it after I have observed that the ending and Ji Chengzhou and Ji Lintian's (Xiangxiang's uncle and cousin, respectively) final retribution is narrated in one chapter.

The thing I awaited the most is this two ungrateful, vain relatives' retribution. Ji Lintian is the one fanning the games behind the negative accusations toward Xiangxiang, that he is not what he seems to be. That he is a bully, an addict, and a white-eyed wolf toward his parents. Thanks to Ran Feng and Xiangxiang's help, the matter was clarified and the opinion was turned. The hired marketing accounts were pursued by the authority. They confessed later but the perpetrators weren't revealed so all the fans can do is to call-out and curse.

In the end, Ji Chengzhou died and Ji Lintian got into an accident. Ji Chengzhou's death is too an easy punishment for him, considering how he schemed against Xiangxiang's father and family. How I wish he rot in prison instead along with his son, with the public condemning them of their actions. What they did isn't forgivable even if they died ten times. Their detail of their retribution is too abrupt, particularly at the main story end. The author rushed it as if she can't wait to write the extras, which is just pure sugar, nothing important can be read there. It's just sweetness and love.

It would have been better if the author detailed it and made it more suitable given what they did. Just one chapter is enough for that.

[collapse]

Spoiler

The side couple (Cheng Yu

Jiang Mu) is almost non-existent. There's no romantic moment between them. It was just mentioned that CY once kissed JM in the forehead and JM intended to introduce CY to XX as his boyfriend. In short, there's no spark nor stimulation that can be felt with this couple. The author shouldn't have made a side CP if this certain aspect is so bland without causing any ripples in the story.

[collapse]

The minor villains got their retribution and were forgotten : Little Sweetie, Song Peifeng, Xing Cai... particularly Xing Cai. He's the textbook example of a shadow. He's with you in the light but disappears in the dark. He's a true deceitful being who can turn his back at the moment of inconvenience and greed. And the fans know that.

***

The story is good but there's too much fluff to my own liking. The face-slapping isn't satisfactory. I can still recommend it though if you want mixed fluff and gaming.

But if you want a Livestream, Gaming, e-sports background, and Entertainment Industry novel with satisfactory face-slapping without a bland and negligible side CP, read Jiang Zibei's "PUBG Online Romance of the Century".

You can also read Mao Qiuqiu's "Your Memes Are Better Looking Than You."

These two novels are highly recommended. <<less

I tend to avoid live-streaming novels cause the netizens annoys me so much. They talk too much! I tend to skip past it.

The way the story unfolded felt kinda bland. I was expecting more. It felt stretched out in the middle.

The first half was pretty good for a moderately fluffy, streamer focused novel. The build up to them actually meeting in person was less foreshadowing and more the author directly saying when they will meet and making the readers wait for it.

However, I got super annoyed towards the end. The MC seemed to completely lose his personality after meeting the ML. The past trauma experienced by the MC was completely explained by some side characters that existed only for that purpose, and then immediately got their karma. It felt like... more>> it went from a fluffy novel with threads of realism (sadness over separation, things MC dealt with), to a completely unrealistic novel with perfect characters and a preachy good vs evil message.

Spoiler

Seriously, by the end, the MC was handsome, rich, smart, professional level at games, super popular as a streamer, so kind that anyone he ever met would stand up for him, get into the best university in the country, etc... And, the only bad things that ever happened to him (quite intense actually), were due to some evil people who then immediately died due to karmic retribution and this completely resolved. It got too ridiculous for me.

Where do I stand with this one? Hmmm, it’s okay. It can be frustrating to read because I’m not familiar with the game and I don’t recognize the names. I understand MOBA, but when it’s just the game characters’ names that are mentioned, I don’t know what role they are for. So the gaming part is not very enjoyable for me, it’s like I’m just reading it for the sake of reading, but I can’t appreciate it as much. The sugar content is quite high, that’s for sure. For my... more>> short attention span, it does seem to drag for a bit so I lost interest almost halfway through. I only read the main chapters coz I can’t read on anymore.

While the translator did a good job, there are some translation issues that tend to trip me up like names getting mixed up/interchanged. Also the game character names are not very consistent, which confuses me. But overall the errors get fewer as the story progresses. <<less
