Most of the time I like novels where MC breakup with his fiance or childhood friend but this novel might not be a favourite for everyone. The starting was good but after wards the way MC deliberately avoiding the fMC and always asking about her relationship with the other guys is really irritating. If MC wants the fMC to grow act like the plot and pretend dead then start doing your deed this way the story will move on and later we can introduce the MC that he is not... more>> dead and solving the problems. This novel is just about the two members who can't come to an understanding and this concept keeps on streching as he wants to fill the chapters aah it's very irritating indeed. Don't waste your time reading this <<less

This one is pretty bad imo. First off the writing quality is kind of sub-par. Nothing against the TL, but the original writer just repeats himself extensively and makes the same point 5 different ways before moving on which really messes with the flow of the story.

Additionally, the MC is just pretty terrible. It starts and the MC is in some weird fake relationship with the heroine, with them being best friends but fake dating so people don’t always confess to her. Which is weird. Then they break up. For... more>> no other reason than that the MC wants the heroine to start her reverse harem and get pounded by a bunch of dudes. The next like 10 chapters has some weird neglect play between the MC and the heroine where he stops talking to her (when they are supposedly best friends) because he doesn’t want the various ML’s to get the wrong idea. And the “villainess” pretends to be interested in the MC to make the main heroine jealous or something.

Overall the plot is just completely cringe and the MC is completely pathetic. He keeps shoving the heroine to be with guys she isn’t interested in, treating her (his “best friend”) like sh*t in the process. When that doesn’t work he goes to the ML’s and cheers them on so they can get with his best friend faster. All the while he’s letting some “villainess” pretend they’re interested in eachother to make his friend jealous.

On top of just being cringe the plot also just doesn’t make much sense. The academy is poorly explained. The heroes are poorly explained. Why this top tier hero can’t handle 2 monsters at once that a bunch of kids kill makes no sense. How the kids have a little pow-wow during the monster invasion when their teacher is fighting for their life makes no sense.

Add on the usual transmigrator garbage of “oh boy I’d hate to do anything to change the plot xd” and clinging onto canon to the detriment of everybody, despite it clearly being out the window cuz of his very existence, this is an overall pretty bad novel. <<less

Above average, I'd say the score goes from 3 in the beginning chapters up to 4 at parts as it progresses, in that range. If you include most of the epilogue + afterwords the score dips to 2, imho don't bother reading those as they don't fit well and make the plot worse.

Plot is, MC reincarnates in what he recognizes as a game world, awakening memories of the plot just before entering Hero High. He's the FLs childhood friend whose role in the plot was as her early-game fake boyfriend... more>> so she could avoid guys trying to date her. Problem with this strategy was that the OG male leads were shoujo-genre obsessive egocreeps from influential families. They get jealous and work to pretty much force him to drop out due to increasing bullying and ab*se, and he dies in an incident caused by villains afterwards. Which triggers FLs growth and opens up the romances to heal her emotional wounds and find new love and hope and whatnot.

Knowing all that, MC's feelings towards FL cool off a bit. He doesn't have the combat ability or influence to drive OG leads off and doesn't want pointless ab*se, drama or dying horribly (understandable). So, he quickly 'breaks up' their fake relationship, they're still close friends and everything but now ideally the OG leads won't focus on him because they think she's available.

Spoiler

FL has the romantic desires of your average walnut but starts feeling mixed emotions seeing her childhood buddy suddenly spending more time with other characters than with her. For a lot of the plot it's more an attention thing than any jealousy, she genuinely just wants friendships with people, but it heads there over time. You can look forward to her having misunderstandings and feeling bad about MC's feelings and motivations for a time.

As the chapters progress the author starts stressing that her hanging out with guy friends while fake-dating was like a sin she committed, it gets heavy handed and kinda weird about it. Context doesn't matter, I guess?

[collapse]

-----------------------------------

Criticisms. There are a bunch. Everything MC tries seems to always work out. Events have a bit of a convenient feeling to them. Author includes things that seem like they should have more depth but doesn't explore them - their teacher, main villain's background and motivations, FL powers, etc. The power scaling coherence breaks down over time. Author has this soapbox obsession with FL having hung out with male friends in the past.

And, an old personal gripe, there is no impact from prior life memories, at most it cooled off his feelings towards FL. Basically it's a way of delivering future plot info to him. I might be wrong complaining about this, though, a few lines have me wondering if it could be some way of contextualizing information from a prophecy ability?

EDIT: Major spoilers,

Spoiler

Hah, actually guessed this one! It's not a game world, MC's awakened memories were actually future information was sent to him by an ascended FL to prevent him from dying. The information MC had about the 'game plot' was a stripped down contextualized version of what actually happened, and didn't indicate much of what FL was thinking throughout it, so MC only had part of the picture.

It turns out that when MC died she did not get over it. FL noticed the OG leads coming onto her and used their feelings, leading them on to get the resources and allies she needed to take revenge on the villain group that killed him. It's also hinted that she mu*dered the leads after the 'ending' once it came out that they were the ones who drove MC away, leading to his death, and then had the nerve to try to romance her. She eventually uses her broken powers send MC info and later some of her power in an effort to change things.

I will say, it was kinda sad how FLs personality shifted over time, in both timelines. No more happy and peppy character, just obsessive and guarded.

Take my advice, just stop when the numbered chapters end. I'd rather ignore the existence of most of the epilogue + afterwords, it becomes cringy harem comedy and the author decided to screw with the transmigration/memories plot twist. Did they forgot they had the whole memory thing wrapped up nicely, or something? Author suddenly decided they wanted MC to also have an extra set of memories on top of everything else, despite that new "twist" never playing an actual role before.

[collapse]

-----------------------------------

TL quality is mostly good, found mistakes that make a line more confusing than it should be here and there (usually subject related) but nothing consistent. The earlier chapter sentences feel very short? If that makes any sense. <<less

Really good. No slapstick BS, takes itself seriously, true and sincere feeling story about a dude dropped into a dangerous situation that he has to navigate his way around intelligently around or risk dying. MC is smart but not so smart he feels unrelatable, good personality, supporting cast seems solid. Very promising so far. Good TL too.

Edit: The more I read, the more I think about it, the better this novel seems. There is tremendous intelligence and maturity in how everyone's relationships are portrayed. This feels like one of those... more>> 'I became an extra in a novel' books except written for adults. <<less

It's good, you should read it.

MC is basically reincarnated into an Otome Game, as the Heroine's childhood friend and boyfriend.

Spoiler

Except, the Heroine and the MC are just "fake lovers", and the MC acts as a deterrent for the other male students since the Heroine is considered an extreme beauty.

[collapse]

Though in the plot, the MC's character is considered a mob with no significant abilities. The only thing notable is that he's the Heroine's boyfriend.

Spoiler

The character, that the MC takes over, only serves as a plot device that powers up the Heroine in the story. Other than that, he's supposed to get killed off to contribute to the Heroine's character growth.

[collapse]

But, as shown in the title, the MC immediately breaks up with the Heroine (specifically chapter 2), and tells her that they should stay as friends.

So now they have a semi-close relationship. (They're childhood friends, so they still act like bickering friends between each other)

Spoiler

The MC breaks up with the Heroine so she can get closer to the other Male Leads. Since if the MC stays as the Heroine's boyfriend, then the Male Leads won't be able to foster a close relationship with the Heroine. (They'll be deterred at the fact that she has a boyfriend)

Which is important so that the Heroine gains the Male Leads as allies, just like in the original plot.

But the Heroine still has lingering feelings, since both her and the MC have spent a lot of time together as a fake couple.

But she isn't aware of her own feelings yet, and so she just harbors a small jealousy towards the Villainess who has teamed up with the MC.

[collapse]

However, the MC makes up for his weak physicality with a great tactical mindset (oh yes, the generic: weak but smart cliche MC. And so far he hasn't gotten stronger). In addition to this, the MC has a calm and clear-headed attitude to any situation that arises.

For instance:
Spoiler

As a test of character, a professor (forgot their name) shows their bloodlust towards the students.

The MC resists the intimidation, and casually looks over the frightened students who are struggling against the professor's bloodlust.

The professor takes note of this, and becomes interested in the MC's capabilities as a commander. (Since he has a calm demeanor, and possesses a tactical mind. Despite being weak.)

[collapse]

So since the MC is a reincarnator who's played the game, and he inherits the memories of a character that is well-versed in theoretical strategies...

You get a smart character who isn't capable for fighting, that has to make do with what they have.

Spoiler

The MC's strategies PERFECTLY go as planned. To the point where the Villainess (who teamed up with the MC) questions if the MC has precognitive abilities.

Although, the Villainess and her lackey get all the spotlight. Since the MC lacks the combative abilities to contribute to the team. (But the MC comes up with the plans)

[collapse]

Anyway, take my review with a grain of salt. Since I'm only 15 chapters in.

But so far, I'm liking it. <<less

The thing I liked about this was the early chapters, specifically the misunderstandings. I rate this aspect 5/10. However, everything else is sh*t 😭

No CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT at all, the main heroine (who won at the end), became a cold and aloof person (expect toward MC) after some traumatic shit. The villainess heroine's (my personal fave) character development is her realizing her feelings for the main character. Then they also introduced a heroine like 5 chapters before the epilogue? Like bruh, the author clearly doesn't care about emotional/complex characters... more>> and only thinks of girls.

The drama and flow of the plot is also so bad 😭, the MC dies and heroine goes on a killing streak. There are no emotional moments at all, and the fight scenes are so mid.

The power scaling is also weird. Like, I never understood how the main heroine suddenly became the strongest. The plot armour of the main villain is also insane, you can't imagine how many times she was able to escape.

To finish it off, it has the worst ending. So he kills the major villain and school starts again. Nothing happens here except funny misunderstandings/moments such as "why are you wearing such revealing outfit despite living with him" stuff that shouldn't be in the ending. Our MC ended up with the childhood friend, and he could have finished it of there. But nooooo, he had to make sure to write in the LAST chapter, "Girl A doesn't feelings for him now, but after 3 months, she falls and tries to steal him", "Girl B (the villainess) doesn't accept it and causes a incident a few months later to seduce our MC", "Girl C (the heroine who literally showed up 5 chapters before the epilogue) realised she isn't just a fangirl and is seriously in love", "Girl D (the saintess) realisez she loves him after seeing Girl B cause an incident"

I was fine with the first few chapters, it wasn't good, it wasn't bad, it was just very mid (good way to mindlessly pass time). However, the later part was a dumpster fire of bad decisions, drama, plot, harem, everything. I'm just tired of this novel, I'll never come back 😭

In conclusion, do not be like me guys and read this 😔 <<less

I didn't have much expectation towards this novel at first, I just thought the title looked interesting. However, this turned out to be a gem.

All of the characters were full of life and they always react dynamically to the situation. Whenever there is a misunderstanding, the characters actually try to resolve it and speak properly. It just felt like the characters have a brain.

What I truly appreciate though is the fact that the author had the courage to end the story, although the situation outside Korea hasn't been explored much,... more>> having it focused on the single big bad boss was a good decision. Good ending tbh, nothing to complain about. <<less

The main story itself is 4-stars with the same pros and cons mentioned in earlier comments. The plot, characters, and overall progression is solid, with the only issue being the main character. My favorite part about this novel is the romance between the MC and the female lead. At first it seems ultimately pointless as the MC got isekai'd into this scenario, but through some deux ex machina (which was actually foreshadowed pretty well) this gets resolved and gives new depth to the story and the main couples' relationship. Unfortunately... more>> the author had to sh*t all over this in the epilogue and make the MC a massive hypocrite. I mean the whole grievance with the female lead was that she was too nice to guys and felt like she was leading them on with her kindness. It was a little overbearing, but somewhat understandable and leads to great growth in the female lead's character. Then this is all somewhat undone with the MC in the epilogue being setup to start some harem shenanigans. The MC as a whole feels like a Gary Stu, and though it makes sense in story in some ways, it doesn't change the fact the it diminishes the quality of the story overall.

Overall despite its flaws, this is a worthwhile read, and I thoroughly enjoyed the relationship between the MC and the female lead. <<less

The start was decent. MC is transported into this dating game supposedly made for women but really is for men. MC's body was dating the FL but to avoid getting killed by the MLs who are better than him in any way, he breaks up with her and she slowly but surely starts realizing she had feelings for him all along, this and that.

The writting is solid, nothing spectacular but at least not bad, its the overall story which is the problem, especially the ending, by virtue of being devoid... more>> of romance, except for the aforementioned FL's feelings. Really, the Harem tag is just there for the Afterwork, where the author just shoe horns in some dates with the female characters and makes them finally fall in love with the MC. Another grip with the novel is that you never see the other MLs, except for 2 and only 1 of them is significant for the story. <<less

Jesus f*cking Christ this novel is something else. Every other character besides the protagonist felt well written and multi-faceted which I enjoyed. They acted, talked, and interacted with one another like actual people as opposed to the typical one-dimensional characters found in these kinds of novels.

The protagonist, on the other hand, made this f*cking novel so unreadable that I decided to just drop it for the sake of my time. My multitude of complaints about him can be summarized by one simple sentence: He is a stereotypical korean male protagonist... more>> that gets transported into a novel/game.

He knows the location of various useful items but chooses to sit still with his finger up his ass complaining about how weak he is. He's insistent on making sure certain parts of the original novel take place (a certain romance between two characters) despite his direct involvement in the plot causing a butterfly effect that has thrown everything he knew about the plot of the original story out the windows. His seemingly lack of attachment towards any character, viewing them as simply characters of a video game, despite having lived in the game world with said characters for years all because he awaken memories of his past life as a pathetic virg*n korean loser whose favorite pass time was playing a certain otome game and making a strategy guide for it.

Overall, the plot and characters are well written but the overall story is hindered to oblivion by a dog sh*t protagonist. <<less
