I rated 4 personally but 3 objectively, as there were quite a lot of things that were dropped, plot points only sorta brushed upon and forgot and things resolved in a sentence or two. I mtl'ed the novel till chapter 80 and I regret reading it. I can't express how frustrating to read this novel. The characters are annoying specifically the MC. Yes, the MC not the creepy ML.

My issue with the MC

2. Not aware about awakener/people with special abilities. Again, how come... Even if he is only a normal person, he should still learn any rumors about this.

3. Freaking naive to the max. He is being use by the military. One of the commander demanded that the MC provide 20 chicken and he pretty much agree (he did negotiate BUTTTT 😡). So annoying... BTW he was warned that the commander was someone cruel and our dear MC still think that everyone was niceee (from my pov lol).

But the story is quite lighthearted, suited for little angels who interested in Apocalypse theme but not ready for dark, depressing, gloomy sh#ts that were infinitely close to realistic view of Apocalypse.

What I like about Ji cha (MC) is that he provides food (agriculture) and also let everyone farm. He also remembered that in his last life the children doesn't go to school and they had no knowledge. So when he got reborn, he downloaded lots of elementary books to highschool. Chemistry, agriculture, and so on. So in the last days, their base have lots of children going to school. I actually didn't continue this because I was getting bored. 🤷🏻‍♀️

MC regresses to his past a few months before the apocalypse. He’s build a sort of fortress in a rural area to protect him and is open to housing more people. So far the story focuses on him trying to make this place self-sufficient while taking care of some friends and family.

However, his character is likable. Despite his past he’s still compassionate within the boundaries of the situation of course. He’s also not dumb. He’s reasonable and plans ahead. I don’t think he’s naïve but maybe I’m naïve too.

ML: Hungry for MC. Okay, he is creepy. Is giving weird guy that you avoid. If he was ugly we’d block him. However, don’t disrespect my underwear stealing king. He believes consent is key. Has heart attacks if MC brushes against his hands. Has “powers”.

Side Characters: Chill. Minds their business.

Pros: likable characters including the sides. I like how they didn’t villainize the cousin. That’s seen often in BL. It’s relaxing with occasional zombie drama. Entertaining.

Cons: If you’re looking for an ESP action packed story this probably isn’t for you. Kind of slow paced. <<less

ML never actually met MC, he's driven by lust and obsession, not love.

MC claims to be straight, then claims to know that he isn't really straight, before going back to wanting big breasted beauties.

It seems the writer couldn't decide on this, so they changed it every 20 or so chapters.

That most tense situations are destroyed by ML and MC suddenly engaging in private contact was seriously irritating.

Surrounded by zombies? ML hits on MC, MC blushes and contemplates his sexuality.

Dangerous people in front of their base? ML gets a hardon, MC is so flustered and weirdly turned on that they totally forget about it.

This isn't how you mix "romance" with action/survival, that's how you actively mess up both aspects.

Biggest downfall of this novel is the MC.

I don't believe for a second that he survived 10+ years in a zombie apocalypse, because he seems to have learned nothing and doesn't have the mindset that comes with it.

- Buys no weapons apart from sticks, doesn't make weapons himself, not even easy makeshift ones you can throw together for 10 bucks, despite having millions in his deposit.

- Forgets that zombies are sensitive to noise, raises loud livestock outside so zombies can hear them.

- Doesn't want to kill or even hurt people who endanger their lives.

- Feels guilty for protecting his own people and others getting hurt because of it, like he has some kind of saviour complex.

The list goes on. It just isn't believable that he's an apocalypse survivor, the writer created a virg*n Mary MC with a background that makes it impossible for him to be one.

His apparent PTSD was totally forgotten as soon as chapter 3, it never came up again, he doesn't show any signs or characteristics of someone who lived through an apocalypse.

Especially how easy it was for him to trust total strangers is just laughable.

If it weren't for the downright creepy s*xual moments, I would have assumed this was written for young teens, by a teenager.

Surprisingly laid back for a zombie apocalypse novel, but am only 28 chapters in. MC is rather naive as regards relationships but that is explained in the novel. Translator’s comments on how pervy ML’s thoughts are hilarious. Do not read if you are expecting tons of gore and action and becoming leader of the resistance, so far this is more about keeping your head down and surviving. Always nice to read about warm family relationships.

Yes, the ML is a bona fide creep, BUT the author does a good job of making sure consent is given. By the time the relationship is "consummated, " the MC is actively invested in ML. At this point the ML is also less creep and more blackbellied, imo.

About the ML

ML is a stalker who starts out with very insane levels of love and lust towards MC. He cares very deeply for MC and also feels a lot of desire for him tempered by restraint to not overwhelm MC.

Why I rated this story 2.5 stars

This novel had a lot of factual substance but the way it was written was so incredibly dry. The only reason why this novel was worth 2.5 stars is for the effort the author put into writing the details and world building for the apocalypse. However MC, ML and every character has about as much personality as a blank sheet of paper. The author describes things that happen to the MC and ML or describe how they react to situations but it's all stuff happens one after another. There is no thematic plot. MC is just a worrywart who cares about people his motivations, his background is not described. Why is MC going from farm to all out helping pregnant women and planning education for kids and fighting trafficking etc. MC for some reason without any prior knowledge just takes on every leadership role possible and works late into the night planning everything. He is horrible at delegating responsibility and yet continues to take more and more of it. This novel unrealistically makes him the right man for every leadership job. It makes no sense. Author should have fleshed out side characters to give them responsibilities so that all the power doesn't sit in very few baskets. Just because he cares for pregnant women's health doesn't mean there's no one else in the whole base who does. Or just because he owns a farm doesn't mean he is the only farmer who will run every single farm for the whole base. For some reason, every good idea comes from him and has to be done by him as well.

My major gripe about this novel is there is no personality or character development to begin with. Probably ML's crazy stalker attitude is the maximum emotion anyone gets in this novel. Everyone else MC included is lacking in any dimension. Saying they are two dimensional is even too positive a description. Side characters are introduced and then disappear without any emotional or plot significance. No one matters in the story aside from MC and ML. The rest is textbook descriptions of day by day events of farm and infrastructure with frustrating comments about humanity being lost and human trafficking, prostitution, and oppression etc. I skimmed through most of the novel without being able to feel any care for anyone or anything that was happening. I only continued reading this novel to see if it would get better. It did not. Aside from the ML and MC stalker interactions and intimate moments, this novel was otherwise bland as white bread. The only reason why I didn't rate this novel lower is because it was somewhat researched and I could see the author tried in the infrastructure details. They just couldn't make it a novel with real humanity. If you are looking for some really good post apocalyptic novels, try The Reborn Otaku's Code of Practice for the Apocalypse or National Disaster Apocalpyse. Those novels not only have a lot of world building and details but also have real human characters with personalities.

TL:DR

Read this novel if you like dry infrastructure novels with organization as in nonstop exposition without order. There is a small plot of a stalker ML who is emotionally and sexually in love with MC. This story line is very thin and only lightly mentioned with one very spicy part in the novel midway. Aside from that, the relationship is bland and tasteless. Lots of descriptions of post apocalyptic infrastructure but some of the ideas and society changes don't make as much logic as other novels I've read. If you find yourself feeling bored while reading this, you will be guaranteed to be bored all the way to the end. Trust your guts and don't read on if you find it boring. There is no big bad or ultimate plot. Just slice of life leveling up and a few societal people annoyances that happen from poor planning and corrupt governance. <<less

This novel is packed with infrastructure! The MC gets another chance at life and is reborn ten years into the past, which was a couple of months before the Zombie Apocalypse began. He took this chance to prepare a place for him to live within the boundaries of one of the safest City Zones during the End Times, hoping to create a sustainable living environment for himself and the people around him (this includes the self-aware pe*vert that is the ML, whose obsession over the MC demands that he be... more>> around him at all times.)

The story starts off slow and steady. The focus isn't really surviving the Zombie Apocalypse. At least, not in the usual sense -- with all the zombie killing and human conflicts. Here, the main issue to take care of is how to make sure that everyone is living well within the walls while zombies are roaming around outside. This is partly made possible because the zombies here don't have abilities like the zombies in most CN Zombie Apocalypse Novels. There are mutations in humans, animals, and plants, but they're rare and not highlighted.

I actually like these kind of novels~ Some people might dislike, or even find infrastructure novels boring, but I really like it! If you're the same, then I highly recommend checking out this novel!

NOTES: By the way, the TL, which is currently incomplete, is pretty good! But, the MTL is not bad either (at least 80-85% readable, which is wayyy better than most), so there's no reason not to give it a try! Also, this novel contains some spicy scenes that are pretty explicit! So, keep that in mind.

The character of this novel are pretty one-dimensional. At the very least, the author doesn't focus much of their attention on developing them.

Ji Cha (MC)

Reborn person. He was stuck in a bottom-wrung position in his past life, which he spent farming every day (and every hour of the day). In this life, his goal is to make good use of that experience to create a space where he can live more comfortably.

Liang Jingchen (ML)

The ML looks rather stoic and abstinent on the outside, but after meeting the MC, his thoughts had gotten a little crooked. His actions may make some people uncomfortable, but I personally didn't think much of it, because he was very self-aware of the fact that he had a problem. He may skirt some people's bottom line a bit, but there is no non-con or dub-con here.

ROMANCE: 6.5/10

The romance is amusing at first, because one side is definitely all in from the get go while the other is hesitant. However, it doesn't have much screen time after the infrastructure starts to scale up, and the development are rather simple.

SETTING: 6/10

The setting is not bad. Downgrading the usual abilities and mutations matches the main theme of the story and allow the infrastructure to proceed without much hassle, so it's quite fitting. Of course, there's no denying that the zombie aspect of this apocalypse is practically negligent. They get veeeery little screen time.

PLOT: 8.5/10

As someone who is biased towards infrastructure novels, the plot of this novel really hit the spot for me! It might not for you, depending on your taste. But, for me, who has a tendency of dropping a story whenever things gets a bit boring, the fact that this kept me interested till the end means that it's worth the reread.

they only got two or three more lines then nothing. The most prominent side character is probably Zhang Xing, and even then he's only there as a witness to MC and ML's developing relationship.

For Slice of Life and Farming novels, one of the biggest draws are the characters.

There were also a lot of inconsistencies, but I could tolerate them, I guess. The characters were really the deal breaker for me though.

I don't know if it improves after the chapter where I dropped it, but I'm not willing to spend more time just to find out. Maybe in the future when I have more time, but for now, I'm placing this at the very back.

I'd rather go reread "Reborn Otaku's Code of Practice for the Apocalypse" again, at least even though I already know what will happen, that novel was enjoyable and did Slice of Life Farming in the Apocalypse quite well. <<less

This review is mainly an affirmation of the translator's work. They have done an excellent job translating this which made it an enjoyable read. As some reviews have said the pacing is kinda weird in that some actions do not add up which gives a sense of maybe something was skipped. However, it does not take away from the plot. (Might just be my opinion though)

Anyways, all in all, I enjoyed the translation and the plot.

It's a good story if you're looking for something slice-of-life-ish to pass the time.

but I suppose the author couldn't come up with a legit way for the MC and ML to fall in love naturally, so that was the basis of the story.

Because the ML is the strongest cheat, things go very well for the MC.

And the beginning read a lot more interesting to me, there were more challenges for the MC. Unfortunately, a huge chunk of the middle didn't have any challenges and there wasn't any relationship development either. After the two get together, they're basically like an old married couple forever.

I enjoy base-building and farming novels, especially in zombie settings, so it was fun.

Otherwise, it might be a boring read for some people.

Translation was fine, a few things I can't quite put my finger on (sentences I had to reread over and over that still didn't quite make sense), but overall not bad. <<less

I liked the novel quite well.

The MC was so hardworking. He willingly saved the people around him in a natural mannet which made me appreciate how humane he was. I even unexpectedly appreciated the ML's dedication and focus on the MC.

I was initially put off by how sexually deprived and desperate the ML seemed to be but thankfully, he was able to control himself and traditionally pursued the other party.

It was a decent read for most of it, but I still feel like the MC is too naive, he is the Holy Mother type.

Before the last incident, it was OK because he did it within control and cautiously, but the last incident when he just went at it alone, I was questioning how he can survive for 10 years previously, because I feel like by that point you should be paranoid and cautious of everything.

I enjoyed this relatively easy read as I love the farming for survival aspect dotted with an appropriate amount of fluff and spice. I also didn't have any issue with either of the MC and ML's personalities because there was forewarning by the translator and I felt it wasn't as bad as expected. A 3 star story at best. The writer skips on the details, like almost every detail, and didn't seem to have planned this story out.

The pacing is strange. The time of this story spans about 2 years. In that limited time somehow the farming went from 7 pigs, some chickens and bunnies for surviving in a small scale, to being able to feed around 20000 people... so that they all have everyday meat to eat. About the story line.... there is none. I'm not sure what the goal is. Most likely a safe base for everyone. We'll there really are no up and downs. Everything is rather smooth sailing and if there pops up a villain... it will be solved in at most 5 chapters. There is no real danger or action at all. No thrill or solving problems. It's really boring.

About MC and ML...i don't know what the writers intentions were with those character designs...

ML started out as a stalker guy. He kind of knew it's over the top what he is doing but still can't stop himself. I think is a bit critical that we are able to hear his thoughts here because he still tries to fly under the radar. Without the knowledge of his pervy thoughts, it might be able to fly as strange flirting. After they got together and slept with each other, the writer instantly stops with the "romance" and there won't be relly sweet interactions. Just kind of old couple and s*x.

MC is rather annoying. He started out good and I thought there might be progress. I mean he lived and struggled 10 years in the apocalypse... but he really became a s*upid white lotus. He walks into danger himself with eyes wide open and realizing it a bit late... he complains to hubby and he needs to solve everything.

About the "romance"... well they really need to learn to communicate. I don't know how they fell for each other. ML is the guy that cries and says no, but since he is already forced, he will enjoy it. In my opinion the first interc**rse was r*pe. MC did say no and said he was afraid but ML was just revved up and MC enjoyed it later. So yeah... decide for your self.

So, would I recommend to read this? Not really, but I've read worse. It has a lot of logic errors, nonsense or dangling story lines, brain farts that were scraped 3 chapters later and no real purpose. The Apocalypse is only a backdrop without any importance.... So if you can live with all of this... go for it.

I won't read this again.

The only really good thing is, that the translator did a rather good job. <<less
