Yuan Ji transmigrated into a xianxia novel as a minor river deity—low status, weak divine powers, and stuck cleaning up the “tr*sh” those cultivators kept dumping into her waters. Life was miserable.

Then one day, the original novel’s male lead—cornered by enemies at the edge of the Forgotten River—shouted in despair, “Thirty years east of the river, thirty years—”

Before he could finish, a rain of high-grade spiritual artifacts crashed onto his head, knocking him out cold.

Yuan Ji, who had just finished tossing her latest batch of “tr*sh,” froze in horror. But to her shock, the male lead woke up, kowtowed fervently, and cried, “Many thanks, Senior, for saving this unworthy one! I pledge my life to your service!”

Yuan Ji: “……What?”

Later, the novel’s genius swordsman—mortally wounded and sinking into the Forgotten River—felt his soul fading… until a flash of white light saved him. He awoke to see the demonic beast that had hunted him now roasting over a fire, tended by a stunningly beautiful girl.

“Senior,” he gasped, “this one begs to become your disciple!”

Yuan Ji, who had only fished him out to prevent blood pollution: “……Huh?!”

One afternoon, while dutifully dredging for tr*sh, Yuan Ji fished out a man in crimson robes—his aura so transcendent, he might as well have been an immortal descended from the heavens.

She stared.

…Was the universe delivering her a wife?

Backing away in alarm, Yuan Ji blurted, “Excuse you—I’m a proper river god!”

Meanwhile, rumors spread across the cultivation sects:

“Deep in the dreaded Forgotten River dwells this realm’s one true deity—a being of unfathomable power. The Chosen One, the Sword Prodigy, even the Beast Taming Maverick… all kneel as her disciples.”

“Even the tyrannical Demonic Cultivator Sovereign, who bows to no one, hides by her side in disguise—all to gain her wisdom.”

When Yuan Ji overheard this, she nearly choked. “No, no, NO! Stop spreading nonsense! I’m just a respectable river deity!”

It's good so far but the tone of the description is very different from the actual story. Yuan Ji is never weak and useless. She never has to toil and grind at low level tasks because she gains a home base and following literally overnight. Yuan Ji is definitely not as expressive and ditzy as the summary makes her out to be.

Instead, this story has almost the exact feeling of a seinen strong-to-stronger type xianxia, except with a female lead. The one accurate part of the title and description is... more>> that Yuan Ji really is a proper god-like figure. I say "proper" in the sense that her detachment from human matters and slightly unique sense of priorities combined with her overwhelming power gives her a great

capacity for both kindness and cruelty that often leaves those around her scrambling in an effort to put a deeper meaning to her actions. She usually gives the impression that everything going on is beneath her. If you were hoping for a more relatable or cute heroine, this story won't be for you, but if you'd like a straightforward power fantasy with some base-building elements, this might be your cup of tea.

My three main complaints about the author's style of storytelling:

    1. over-reliance on italics to emphasize how crazy or absurd a situation is. Not to mention that for a cut-throat cultivation world, I think the level of astonishment from the side characters is often unwarranted when it comes to Yuan Ji doing things that are more cruel or cold-blooded. Much of their astonishment also seems to come from people simply forgetting how powerful Yuan Ji has shown herself to be.
    1. the author introduces too many side characters but forgets or chooses not to utilize them for long stretches of time, leaving you frequently wondering "hey, whatever happened to that guy?". Especially regarding the female side characters who often just vanish and largely seem to be around for set dressing and a symbol of Yuan Ji's prestige. New characters will often be introduced in somewhat confusing ways and their presence won't be explained until much later. Expect to have some patience with this story.
    1. It doesn't feel like the "transmigration/system" aspect was really necessary in this story. From the first chapter it's clear that Yuan Ji isn't just some average hapless schmuck who got thrown into an unfamiliar world. The "plot" of the novel doesn't really matter to her and doesn't really affect her actions, a number of her quests are things she would've done anyways. There's never really that "adapting to the world" phase that you usually get from a novel transmigration story. It feels like the author could've made A-Tong some sort of spirit guide with future sight rather than a system and the story would work just as well. It just feels like an unnecessary extra layer and an excuse to give Yuan Ji convenient magical items through the "system shop".

The premise is interesting and the MC seems cool, but it's simply unreadable. I don't know if it's the original writing or the translation, but I can't understand anything.
