Wen Shuangbai transmigrated into a novel, becoming a poor artifact cultivator.

Not only was her family penniless, but she also had a fiancé.

Her fiancé had an exquisitely handsome face, with a teardrop mole at the corner of his eye that was utterly captivating.

Unfortunately, he was the novel’s devoted second male lead who pined after the female protagonist—willing to go through fire and water for her, even abandoning his wife to prove his love.

Wen Shuangbai decided she wasn’t cut out for such a fate and planned to call off the engagement.

That was, until one day, she accidentally witnessed the man handing a medicinal pill to the female protagonist with an indifferent expression, stating matter-of-factly, “That’ll be 101 coins.”

Wen Shuangbai: “?”

Hold on—he didn’t even round it down? Since when did a simp male lead act like this?

Growing increasingly suspicious, she finally couldn’t hold back and asked him one day: “Bro, where are you from?”

Xie Ziying: “.”

Xie Ziying was the youngest chief physician at a top-tier hospital, his future bright and promising—until he transmigrated into a fantasy novel, becoming a minor cannon-fodder healer.

In the book, his fiancée was a villainess who committed every evil deed imaginable, so Xie Ziying planned to find a way to sever this ill-fated bond.

That was, until one day, the so-called villainess asked him: “Bro, where are you from?”

Xie Ziying: “6.” [Internet slang for cool]

[Note: The male and female leads are both transmigrators]

'm biased because I haven't finished reading it but I'm 73 chapters in and while I love how funny and slap-stick the plot and characters are, I'm also wondering, where is the romance??

other reviews mentioned the sweet romance but I'm looking at these two stingy money-grubbers that have occasional moments of "awareness that the other person is a member of the opposite s*x" rather than actually falling in love and wondering how they become lovers when they seem as if they'll declare a touching, sworn brotherhood at the end of... more>> the novel instead. enemies to lovers? no no no. enemies to sworn brotherhood? absolutely! lmao.

I just can't see these two as couple, like at all lol. they have no chemistry. the author completely focuses on the plot, which is totally fair and very enjoyable, but fails to balance the romance properly as a result, so any of these very brief "romantic locking of gazes" or "freezing when the other person briefly touched them, " that take up no more than a line or two within multiple plot-thick chapters, end up feeling very forced and unnatural.

overall, there is no deeper meaning behind any of it - why are they falling in love? what's the deeper reason? 73 chapters and the MC just barely knows that the ML was a neurosurgeon, but they haven't had any kind of deeper bonding.

Spoiler

they can't even bond over their shared past as fellow transmigrators, as I thought they would, because the Heavenly Law strikes literal lighting if they try to! and any time I think there's a chance for them to talk about it, even in code, the author just... doesn't!

[collapse]

anytime they're alone, the author could have used the opportunity to display tension between them or show them going through something that forced them to experience something personal to them, or even just basic stuff like locking them in a small room together, but every time they're alone there is no difference between the ML and the MC's other teammates. at best, they have a better tacit understanding, but again... no tension whatsoever lol.

They bicker, but they don't bicker in that "tension-ridden, we're fighting but I want to make out with you" kind of way. they bicker the way people with a sibling-like relationship bicker. again, there goes the brotherhood vibe! it's not to the level of an actual sibling relationship, so there's that, which is why I say brotherhood rather than sibling-like, since they're both martial artists/cultivators.

all this to say that this is my very biased opinion from someone that hasn't read past chapter 73 so if you don't care about romance, or you're curious to find out if it changes, feel free ignore me and read it.

romance aside, the plot is very light-hearted and funny and isn't very deep of serious. it's the kind of novel you read after something super emotionally heavy, super enjoyable! the author has an interesting way of throwing modern tropes into an ancient cultivation novel without it feeling too forced and out of place. it's more fun instead!

i've just never had a novel where the two leads that are supposed to fall for each other have such an absence of romantic or s*xual tension. it's really funny so I wanted to post this <<less

One of the best story I've read and a strong contender to my top 1.

The story was told at the right pacing; not stretched out nor short, enough to explain everything while getting you hook up. The story mainly involved around this major sect competition, starting at MC transmigrated and fighting to get a spot for the competition, and ends with the competition; tying all loose ends.

The competition didn't feel repetitive as each round gave us more insight to the characters, the world and was very entertaining.

What I really love... more>> about this story is how real the characters are. You can really feel that they are 20s to 30s who understand everyone has their own path, and it's okay to specialize on your interest and be capable from that.

Spoiler

First time in a while to read a main character who doesn't set themselves to trying learning all stuff. Though as compensation (this is very classic for stories like this Mc), the story made it so that MC is close to people who are very strong at their own speciality.

[collapse]

This is also why I love the romance as it genuinely feels like two beings falling in love than paper characters just drawn to each other.

Spoiler

you can event pinpoint the moment when ML started falling in love and doing some schemes, lol.

[collapse]

Sadly, the story is focus only on their blooming love from their journey and shared background, as to whether it survives the test of time is up to fate.

Spoiler

Of which, I personally didn't like. Would have love an extra chapter showing their future, happy as they cultivate or get to read how they win against time.

But still, this is good action and romance. I would highly recommend this.

The only problem with this novel is that the translation sucks. This story have the classic wrong use of pronouns, names, bad grammar, and the likes. I would not mind if it was just thag, but I cannot stand the constant change in nouns, particularly in the power realms. I could not keep up because it keeps changing. <<less

Light hearted and fun. Characters are likeable. World building is kinda fluffy but that doesmt detract from the fun. I like it enough to want to read more.

I loved this novel a lot because of the antics of the side characters and the main pairing too, they all honestly act like a menace to their sect and cultivation society. The MC and ML are very sharp and money minded, and their banter is very cute. I've read the author's other works and they seem to write their MCs with the same personality but she's still pretty likable. ML was a gem though in my opinion, he's a typical cold doctor type but it works well paired with... more>> him being so frugal and also straightforward with his feelings. The villains are pretty one dimensional though, and imo the ending felt rushed. I think this novel could have shined if continued to develop all of the characters more.

Spoiler

I like how the trials were all connected to each other and the plot line behind it, but as I said the villains never seemed like much of a threat and the MC/ML and their team essentially had the upper hand the entire time.
