After being informed by an unknown monk that a mysterious seal has been stolen from his treasury , the Emperor sends his confidant and childhood friend, Bian Yonglan, to investigate.

In the course of his search, Bian Yonglan unexpectedly crosses paths with that very monk, Tanshan. To his surprise, Tanshan is also seeking the missing artifact. With their goals aligned, the two decide to join forces.

Yet what begins as a straightforward mission soon reveals itself to be far more perilous, unsealing hidden truths about the cultivation world, about Tanshan and his master, and perhaps even about the heavens themselves.

A Poetic Masterpiece Short but Unforgettable

This novel is a true work of art, blending poetic prose with unforgettable characters. Bian Yonglan is charming, outgoing, and delightfully eccentric, the perfect counterbalance to Tanshan’s aloof, serene, yet deeply devoted nature. Years ago, fate first intertwined their lives, and now it pulls them together once more in a quest for the Chang’an Seal.

At just under 40 chapters, this story delivers a breathtaking tale of yearning, loyalty, and sacrifice. Despite its brevity, it never shies away from mystery, action, or a beautifully developed romance... more>> that lingers in the heart long after the final page. Tangstory crafts a concise yet deeply satisfying narrative with not a single moment wasted. The character growth is impeccable, proving that a story doesn’t need endless chapters to leave a lasting impact.

The novel is rich with Buddhist analogies and references, but thanks to the translator’s meticulous work, every idiom and cultural nuance is made accessible. As a test reader, I feel incredibly fortunate to have experienced this gem early. This is a hidden treasure one that will leave you craving more of Tangstory’s brilliant storytelling. If you love immersive, emotionally resonant tales, don’t hesitate to dive into this and all of Tangstory’s works. <<less
