Hard times call for recycling tr*sh.

The world’s going to hell, and there are never enough heroes.

“…So, who’d you say was on this mission?”

Doesn’t matter what kind of tr*sh—monster, villain, petty thief, con artist, even a rabid dog.

“Welcome to the Black Parade.”

Day after day, they throw convicts onto the battlefield.

For justice, peace, love, and… for freedom!

A hidden gem of a novel within the sea of countless gate/hunter KR novels prevalent on this website.

I've read 25 chapters so far, and from first impressions it appears to be considerably promising, having been written by the same authors of "I Became the Tyrant of a Defense Game", another fairly solid work on this site in my opinion.

The basic setting provides us with a world that has been changed due to the aftermath of monsters appearing from gates 30 years beforehand, and how Lee Jae-hee, a convict is forced... more>> to work alongside the 'Black Parade' squad, a colourful cast of criminals with unique abilities and backgrounds, and the only way for him to survive is to reduce his lengthy criminal sentence in order to reach freedom.

The protagonist Lee Jae-hee is entertaining to read, he's fairly realistic although albeit a little clumsy at times yet I feel that in turn makes him likeable when you get to see him placed in various circumstances, each one unpredictable where his personality gets room to shine. Most if not all characters shown up to this point of the story feel distinct in nature, with some more pronounced than others.

I'd recommend giving this a try, I believe it'll be worth your time whether you are or aren't a fan of classic KR urban fantasy novels. <<less

So far the novel is shaping up to be pretty good. 4.6/5

The premise is pretty good. It takes the fairly cliche formula of South Korea and gates but turns it into:

Its been 30 years since gates erupted across the world. Our protagonist is a thief who gets roped up into a classified government spec ops program which uses criminal awakened to deal with various situations.

There’s a lot that the author has done to make me interested in this novel

Spoiler

For one, the protagonist’s true power is hidden to the reader and to himself. Other various interesting parts include the lore behind various characters such as the ghost lady, as well as the protagonist’s own history which is being foreshadowed

overall a fairly interesting novel. Good writing as well. <<less
