Meng Xiyue unintentionally traveled into the book “Deep Love: The Delicate Wife Runs with the Ball,” but fortunately, she was just a passerby.

Watching the frustrating love between the male and female leads, Meng Xiyue set her standards for a partner: someone with correct principles, a sound mind, calm in situations, and preferably not obsessed with love.

Then one day, Meng Xiyue encountered the vicious female supporting character from the book…

I loved this. It was really pleasant. Nothing big really happens and the FL might be a turn of in the first and second meeting but by the third time they met I was invested. This story felt a lot like it was about not being fooled by first impressions. The biggest thing that got me about the writing was that the meetings between the MC and FL until they start to form a friendship feel really forced as in there are too many coincidences for it to actually be... more>> a coincident yet there is not really any explanation for it. The same can be said about the significant personality shift in the FL when around the former main characters as to when she is with literally anyone else. But despite all the flaws I said, they didn't affect my enjoyment of this at all I will still rate it as 5 stars for pure enjoyment. <<less

The more correct title of the story should be "Standards/Criteria for choosing life partners". Also, I hope some actual translators will pick this up, the AI translation is sub-par at best.

anw, the story itself is pretty calming, with no big drama going on, so if you want drama and face-slapping, this might not be suitable for you.

one big flaw of this story is that the MC isn't really developed at all in the emotion department (she's honestly a lot like a self-insert Mary Sue in fanfic lol), so the relationship... more>> feels pretty abrupt. Also, another flaw (imo) is that the story can feel a bit too miraculous/wish-fulfilment at times.

If you can ignore those flaws + you enjoy reading slow, simple and happy stories, you should give this a try! <<less

6/10 (Above average, but not really special)

This book falls fairly squarely into the SoL category. While subplots involve the business and acting world, and early on it seems to gear up for some level of moral commentary or a potential deeper character arc, it quickly becomes apparent that these are all effectively background dressing for the smooth sailing relationship between the FLs.

Spoiler

The book begins by establishing that Meng Xiyue transmigrated, but this is very much a transmigration story where there is almost no reason for the transmigration to occur in the first place. The best way to think about the transmigration in this story is actually as a metanarrative setting establisher. While Meng Xiyue does not really face any of the classic mental crises that often come in novels that play on the transmigration trope (e.g. being unable to decide if characters in the new world are real or not), it is helpful to read Meng Xiyue as if she fundamentally accepts that the world she is in is that of a melodramatic dominating CEO novel, and interacts with the world in that way.

Background plots in the book are ok in the sense that they never get too in the way of the romance of the FLs. They absolutely cannot stand on their own, but they don't feel as if they take up too much time and start falling apart from overexposure. Side characters often are seemingly just dropped without much reason for existing, and this is especially true for any side couples. The acting subplot for Xia Yuan is pretty much just used for excuses for the FLs to interact in different ways, which is exactly what this book needed it to be. The business plot does briefly come into focus occasionally and, while still often used for FL interactions, is also much more tied to the plotline of the original book.

The book ML/book FL/villainess Xia Yuan interactions are... complicated. Early on, it appeared to me to be a classic moral commentary novel; that is, one where the transmigrated or just generally undramatic FL looks at the disaster going on with them, and interacts with whoever the romantic interest is, teaching them to love in a more healthy way. The summary of the book also led me to go in with this interpretation. However, this interpretation doesn't really work for me for a couple of reasons.

First, the morals are not nearly as clear cut as this type of storyline usually goes for. If there's a consistent moral throughline being shown, it's a very nuanced and particular one that would expect a lot more explanation than is actually given. Second, we don't really have the sort of moral carthesis scenes this sort of storyline generally revolves against. Shitty people do tend to get what's coming to them to some extent, but Xia Yuan never really has super significant "I see, so this is a healthy relationship, I was being f*cked over/a shitty person" type moments. Third, the original book plot takes an extremely heavy backseat and the book FL barely gets any screentime or onscreen development, which this sort of storyline would generally expect because of how much of an absolute dumpsterfire the interactions were.

Rather, if this is treated as just more background dressing, suddenly it starts making more sense. Meng Xiyue simply cannot be bothered with dealing with the melodramatic world of the book, and while she does step in occasionally to interfere with certain situations, she mostly keeps well away in favor of her business and later on, her relationship with Xia Yuan. This does inherently mean that all of the premise aside from the relationship between the FLs is weak; inherently, the book ML and book FL, for example, are mostly flat sterotypes in order to maintain that generic melodramatic novel window dressing.

Luckily, the development of the relationship between Meng Xiyue and Xia Yuan is done in a rather interesting and novel way that I found to keep my attention through the book, as well as develop enough of a liking for the two to sustain my interest through the parts after the relationship had settled into a groove.

An important part of this was due to how the two characters development over the course of the book was handled. It's common for the cold character to completely thaw once getting into a relationship, and for the villainess to completely shed her villainous persona (very often she never really had a villainous persona at all). Both Meng Xiyue and Xia Yuan keep their inital personalities unusually intact, while also showing their development over time well. Meng Xiyue remains very reserved, but even early on, you can feel that she pays ever so slightly more attention to Xia Yuan than anyone else, and the many times that she steps out of her own comfort zone for her provides a fun ambiguous tinge to their interactions even before she started liking her. Xia Yuan keeps her dramatic, high society persona, but redirects it towards a partner that actually likes her back, and the moments where the thought of Meng Xiyue's disapproval holds her back from acting like a sterotypical pathetic villainess are very enjoyable.

The way their relationship ultimately came together with Xia Yuan incorrectly assuming Meng Xiyue was already in love with her, only for Meng Xiyue to realize that she did in fact like her and simply accepting it was a good capstone and I think shows off the somewhat unusual and fun relationship style that heavily carries this book.

[collapse]

Overall, if you're looking for a somewhat non-standard but very smooth sailing relationship and don't mind basically everything else being cutout set dressing for that, this book is worth checking out. <<less

Made me wonder if the author is a fan of "Villainess, I will pamper you" author or they just have the same style of writing and building story.

Anyways, I really really like it because it is light and fluffy. There are many plot holes that you don't need to think about because this is all fluff and fun. If this any more serious than it is, I would lower the stars, but the author is consistent of the mary sue and overbearing princess matching haha Good read made me lessen... more>> my stress <<less

Very wholesome very sweet, kinda short.

The MC is a cold business man who slowly gains a foothold into the industry while trying to dodge the ML and FML, our FL (our love interest) however is a stubborn child who has a crush on the ML. But she slowly realizes how s*upid the ML is and falls in love with the MC.

One thing that really attracted me to the FL is how blunt and straightforward she is, despite being a bit stubborn, she knows her way through life and happiness... more>> and communicates with the MC. They get together around chapter 30 and it's the FL who's mainly encouraging the MC to have a bit more emotions. While the MC also tries to cooperate as much as her personality could.

It's really adorable, I wishes there was more extra chapters. It's a good casual read for some business tycoon yuri sht 👍 <<less

It was an enjoyable novel. More of a light love story with MC having knowledge of the book & also bring in advance knowledge from a her world to give her a better foothold as she tries to avoid getting too involved with the books ML & FML. At times the story is hanging around the villainess mostly & her interactions with the people in the book & how it interact with the MC.

Wish they would break from making one side cold & the other side hot. MC just seems... more>> dull at times being cold with emotions, until the end. <<less

I didn't expect that this novel already got an official (?) or at least clear translation but nevertheless, I'm happy it did.

Now I'm not really a professional critique and I don't really leave reviews that much but as someone who never grew bored of this novel, I felt like the least I could do is leave as positive review.

Anyways, I'd like to say that this story is very cute (?). I'm not sure if that's the right term but in terms of the typical emotional part of a story, it's... more>> very light. The romantic development of both the MC and FL is something that can make one giggle for it's cuteness (at least that's what happened to me). The FL is very cute and the MC is like those kind of people who are cold-on-the-outside-but-warm-on-the-inside kind.

Although the confession part of it seemed pretty forced on the MC' side. 😓 But anyhow, that's the only part of the story where I kinda got dissatisfied.

Overall, if you guys are looking for something lighthearted, I definitely recommend this novel to you.

And although I don't think this review of mine is good, thank you for reading it atleast. <<less

It's a decent story, the characters fit each other somewhat, but none of the characters are really fleshed out or captivating. The plot does not make up for that at all. Just a sweet story with alright pacing, you must turn off your brain a little and deal with the typical "all powerful CEO does whatever to protect their wife" tropes. The most interesting character is definitely Xia Yu An, but she's nothing amazing.
