the fact that each realms hides an extreme realm with also unique powers, and even an ultimate realm above that with plot reason is another interesting parts. With each realms taking times to cultivate, which again helps explaining that older people are usually stronger. Also, those ultimate realms are only through MC own's efforts, the system gives 0 helps for them

Think back to your adolescence years and imagine you have a fight at school and when you get home your Father slaps you without even letting you explain why you fought. Wouldn't you get mad ? I know I would. That's exactly what happened to MC, adding to all the other stuff his reactions just made sense to me. Sure, Author forced it a bit as MC could have talked to his Father beforehand in this case, but he actually had his reasons for that if I remember correctly (been a while)

to randomly instant kill his opponent, which ruined all the fights to me as it became MC spamming attacks until it proc'ed. Thankfully after a while author's gives up on this via some light explanations.

The clues are there from the very start that his parents are pretty awful parents, even before his dad comes home. FOURTEEN years and they only sent a total of 7 letters back home. 7 freaking letters. No matter how busy you are fighting in a war, it's a long standing war and there will always be downtime. They just obviously never held the kid as a priority and never cared to know him let alone understand him. They didn't ever bother to ask him if he was happy or sad or lonely or what his favorite past time was or anything. They were absent parents for 14 years. Both the mom and dad suck.

Also, I've definitely seen these kinds of parents IRL so unfortunately I think it's kinda realistic. His dad is annoying, but it also fits with the personality he has: he's rigid and too focused on his own notions of morality, honor, and success, to the point he's not willing to see where his son is coming from.

Usually in a system novel it's all about power, as long as you have power you get the girl, a good family, don't lose anything, everyone respects you etc... This novel takes it a bit further. Powerful people can still feel loss, they can still have their own circumstances, weirdly enough for the first time in a long while, this applies to the MC as well in this story. He's almighty, super OP, yet even he can get hit in other ways than with strength

I can see why some people didn't like the dispute between father and son. On one hand it's somewhat believable that a parent without any experience could get off on the wrong foot... but this dude is waaaay beyond simply stubborn, conservative, or authoritarian. Honestly it gets annoying reading his dialog. He's really a broken record most of the time. Endlessly complaining about all the supposed faults of his son, how everyone is spoiling him, and how he's going to set him straight (and maybe kill him in the process). It's quite baffaling why anyone would have expectations for the MC after he's abandoned by his parents and practically raised by servants. The other sister in laws were supposed to take care of him but it didn't seem like they did much but the bare minimum. Never mind that none of his cousins seem to be be well behaved either, so I really have to wonder about the education (or lack thereof) polices of this family.

Though the real question is why any of this had to happen? It never really seemed like the MC wanted to become family head or that he really truly cared about getting poisoned. With such a dysfunctional family I probably would have at most incite internal conflict and leave the family while they were preoccupied. And of course I'd hide my skills. I'm a waste and a burden? Great! I can leave.

The whole arranged marriage thing seems forced too. Way to adopt another kid and neglect them too. Her flip flopping and changing her mind about spending her life with him is fine. People change. It's just that we don't really see that progression. She just later reappears in the story and chooses the sword instead. The weird thing is that the Father doesn't seem to care or even think about this betrothal other than to threaten the MC not to mistreat her.

I think this might be where I drop the novel, the translator has also stopped releasing free chapters as of this review. Ngl I was almost tempted to spend for the patreon during the heir designation arc, and I definitely think it would've been worth it. Unfortunately I don't have that kind of money rn and now that it's transitioning to a new arc, things have settled down and I'm more or less fine with ending things here. I liked the dynamic between the MC and his fiance the most in this novel, personally I would've been a lot more decisive than the MC and cut ties but hey the MC is more pragmatic, which is why it's such a weird thing that he'd rather kill himself than reconcile with his family members. Pragmatic or emotional, either way works fine, but it just doesn't feel consistent that this is the same person even if you could brush it off as the MC being "multi-faceted". Personally I would've wanted just a few tweaks here and there and make it more obvious that he's clearly obsessed about his parental issues instead of the narration pretending like he's always fine and being rational about it, because it ends up coming off like the author doesn't think it's weird to be that extreme.
