Ou Renjin likes keeping beautiful young men because he likes watching the drama.

Watching them be arrogant and conceited; watching them be obsequious and sycophantic; watching them have ulterior motives and fight with each other, seeing all the evil side of human nature.

Until, he picks up a poor little guy.

The poor little guy is ignorant and helpless, treating Ou Renjin as his whole world, spending all his salary to buy him gifts, standing in front of him in times of danger without hesitation, even…

…saying to him in the calmest and lightest of tones after knowing that their heart matching is successful, “I am very grateful that you have been hiding it from me, but I have long been ready to give my heart to you.”

* * *

036 was born as a test subject, without parents or friends.

As the only successful “petri dish of renewable organs”, he had every organ in his body cut out and transplanted to the rich and powerful countless times.

After getting used to the pain, he met the most special person in the world.

This person was so good that he wanted to cut out his own heart immediately.

The translation is great and the translator really cleared up a lot of confusions. The MC and ML's characters are really interesting, their character development is also good. Overall, it's not boring to read but... I guess I'm looking for something and I didn't find it here. I read this thinking it's some healing novel considering both MC and ML had very tragic backgrounds, but it's a little underwhelming for it to be a healing novel so I guess its not.

Heck ton of plot holes.

Spoiler

the sudden transmigration took me off guard and I think it was placed there because the author dug up a plot they couldn't fill. The mu*der of ML's mom and whether the real culprit is the uncle is also not explained well. The addition of the phonecall chapter is unnecessary and not placed where it should be, I'm thinking it could be an extra and not put it in 3 chapters before the end. I also think that the entertainment subplot could just go, I didn't really feel it's relevance in the story but in a way it also makes sense because the ML is an entertainment company chairman.

Goooood stuff. Total emotional hurt/comfort feast. Hahah, [Even if I know I might be risking my life to save yours, I still want to do it] and [Can the living bear the weight of the lives traded for theirs?] can be found here!

But I have something to say: If one day, the person you love who you thought died giving you their heart turned out to be alive and finally woke up post-operation... The first thing you do should not be scaring them! It's not like they can do it... more>> twice anyway. Give them a hug and welcome them back warmly before scolding them. Making threats on your own life like a net-loss mutual K.O.— it's good for selling angst, but please remember that no one should act like this in real life. It's unconsionable.

Note: Don't think too hard about rationality while reading, just indulge your feelings. <<less

It is very sweet!

MC is a very Gary sue/ virg*n Mary character but at the same time he still has his own opinions and ideas. For example, when he has something in mind, he will accomplish it.

ML is kinda a s*umbag but also not? Before meeting the MC he had several lovers but from the start he made it clear that he wasn't in love with them and gave them many many many ressources.

Both MC and ML have a tragic past and they're perfect for each other imo: they do... more>> communicate a lot so there's no unnecessary dramas.

Spoiler

To be fair, I thought MC would become some renowned scientist/doctor because he obviously has a lot of knowledge about it. At some point, it can be learned that he was taught by the researches of his og world but they deemed him as dumb but still: we know the current world he's in now is much less advanced so he could have brought some knowledge to help science advance...

I liked it better than expected??

I wasn't very into Renjin at first and was leaning more on Shaowen but on the climax my preference switched! I like them both but I totally get Renjin's anger regarding Shaowen's "sacrifice". The paybacks's a bit extreme (no worries he didn't cheat or ab*sed the other ML as revenge) but I love it??

Usually in these tropes the focus is on the self-sacrificing character so seeing the perspective of the other side is really good. I'm not sure if it's been done before but this... more>> is the only story I've read (or remembered) where you can really feel the ML's anger and self-loathing at being forcefully given a "gift" (iykyk).

the best part? Thry understood each other's perspective in the end! Love that! <<less

➺ 4.25/5 🌟

trigger warning: self-harm

The MC is a test subject who was locked in a laboratory all his life, who didn't even have his own name until he met the ML. His body has the constitution of regrowing his organs so he's considered a human petri dish, his organs were used for transplant. It's tragic to hear him recount that part of his past so casually, as if it's the most normal thing for him. It was engraved in his mind that using his organs for transplant is the reason... more>> he existed. He's such a pure and naive soul, who's quite ignorant but also smart at the same time. You just want to protect him from anything filthy but also want to show him all the wonderful things in the world.

I understand why a lot of people didn't like the ML. At the beginning, he was hateful and scummy when it comes to relationship, though his exes are aware of his wants before the relationship starts and still willing to proceed. He even has this particular mansion where dedicated to his whoever is his current boyfriend. He's good at being gentle, good at coaxing and generous in giving his partner a lot of resources, but he keeps them at arm's length. He never got attached. So in a way, when a break up happens, it should be peaceful, but some exes ended up falling in love but ML is quick and decisive. He even has this strange hobby of voyeurism, though not in a s*xual way, so I don't know if using that word is appropriate. More like a hobby of watching. But he's not a typical cold, stoic and possessive rich CEO.

I loved both their growth as an individual. Their changes doesn't make them like a whole different person. Both their nature is still there, lingering in the background, but after knowing each other, the way they respond isn't just limited from how they used to react. You can see their growth but you know that it's still them.

This also has an interesting take about sacrificing your life for your loved ones. Whether it's fiction or in real life, people's focus are always on the deep love of the one who sacrificed themselves and we unconsciously want those who was left to live to continue living for the sake of that sacrifice. But I loved the way the topic was discussed in a different angle, from the perspective of someone who would prefer to die with the person who sacrificed their lives for him but instead have to continue living just to bear the heavy weight of the lives lost for him.

There's no right and wrong, it's just a matter of where you stand.

Liking this is such a pleasant surprise. I don't remember reading any "master-canary" trope before. This has a perfect balance of sweetness and heartbreak. I loved the little angst it has given me. <<less

ML Ou Renjin x MC 036 A heartwarming (pun intended) story. Better than a 4 but not a 5. It has an engaging premise that didn't allow itself to become too serious or tragic with an interesting twist on rebirth. The side characters are there for movement/motivation plot devices however, the author did a fine job of giving the side characters enough personality so as not to make them flat. There is growth, development, redemption and a HE.

This story hurt me in all the right places and I will let it break my heart again.

The author’s prose is so very beautiful and I thank the wonderful translator for managing to translate the writing to gorgeously.

There’s no graphic depictions of MC’s past life, which relieved me. The ending is:

Happy Ending. But not gonna lie, I thought for a solid heartbreaking moment that it would be a BE

I love broken MCs like these who doesn’t seem to value themselves. ML also surprised me with how colorful he is; he wasn’t just the average domineering CEO but a 3-dimensional character who is mischievous, a bit pe*verted, humorous and knows how to make fun of himself, with a vindictive dark side that was once painfully aimed at MC (with good reason, I promise)

Overall, I recommend this read if you want more substance, more angst, and a sweet cathartic end. <<less

I was looking for something tragic and knew I would shed tears reading this... but still!

MC is so endearing because of how sincere and how selfless his love is. ML is so admirable in how realistic he is. I love this combo of ignorant & well-versed.

Honestly, it was mainly about how their love progresses as issues interfere — yet there were no extras of their married life after all their issues were resolved which was a little like damn.

This is a quick & easy read for venting emotions and contemplating... more>> about humanitarian values.

The ML of this and the MC of another novel both share controlling traits where they teach a lesson to their partners; if you’re interested in these type of scenes go check out An Unconventional Method of Raising a Rabid Dog. It’s pretty kinky so you’ve been warned. ^_^

Overall, I rate this a good 8.5 <<less

I've been on a review-writing spree today, and after posting one for a novel on my review-free account (and I can't delete it 😭), I felt inspired to write another for this.

This novel is, without a doubt, one of the best slice of life I've ever read in a while. I absolutely adore it. I could talk endlessly about the main characters (MC and ML), how well they work together as a couple, and the fact that the ML is wonderfully free of the possessive Yandere trope. This novel is... more>> a favourite, one that I will continue to revisit.

The story begins with a bit of a misunderstanding: the ML thinks the MC wants a sponsored relationship, while the MC believes the ML wants his heart. Though these misunderstandings persist, they don't detract much from the overall narrative, as the author doesn't overly focus on them.

The MC is allowed to live his life, pursue his passions, and be himself without the ML hindering him. The ML, although was a bit of a s*um was an interesting character and his growth was a good one to see. I highly recommend it, though the few chapters before the ending are angsty, the novel remains exceptional.

Towards the end, I kept expecting some extras to provide more sugar and some conclusion to some things after all the emotional turmoil, but unfortunately, it ended without them. This left me a bit upset, as I wanted to see more of what happened afterwards.

Anyway, the novel does have a happy ending, which I appreciated. Although it ends on a positive note, there's an underlying sadness when considering the future, whether the MC will grow old and die, or remain young as he is now. Nonetheless, this novel is truly remarkable, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and drama-free read. <<less

One of the few times I’m actually excited for angst. The premise—it sounded like a hit or miss. I had no idea how this story was going to unravel, but one thing I knew: it was going to make me feel things.

MC has a special body that can allow him to regrow his organs, subjecting him to unlawful & inhumane organ transplants to rich buyers. He escapes his lab & is transported to a different world/space that is also modernized but a little behind in terms of technological advances. No... more>> lab, no harsh experiments here... just one hot golden thigh CEO who enjoys spoiling pretty boys & watching them on his many installed cameras at home. LOL

The plot was interesting enough, the characters made it more worthwhile. I like how despite naive-seeming MC is, he’s actually very straightforward & not as weak as you’d assume. ML is also not your typical CEO playboy archetype, but he’s actually kind of a unique weirdo who I believe only MC can love. This novel’s cute, bittersweet, & even crazy at times. Hate that the ending was too fast; it could’ve been paced out better. <<less

3.9 it's sweet and had righg amount of sadness so itla ok.. but... I began to doubt that thia novel was actually seme protagonis, Idk.. it gave same vibe as ''I famous after died'' the gong and shou so vague and it became problem for me, in first part it say that our ou shaowen (mc?) Is shou but in the story.. the characteristics seams blurred (u know typical gong on danmei, tall, had more stamina, etc...) in synopsis our MC more likely is ou renji.. but I don't... more>> feel like it.. at first the MC was both of them and Somehow gradually it become ou shaowen I really need translator-sama to clarify this <<less

Warning: get your tissues ready because you will cry a lot or at least I did. I loved that this story was more about learning, coping and facing their emotions and less about revenge. The ML and MC aren’t perfect and they are aware of it. Their feelings felt real and I like how the author was able to describe their struggles.

I only gave it a 4 star because although another reviewer warned me not to read the author’s note on chapter 32? I forgot and read it and it... more>> did ruin part of the experience of figuring things out. Also, there is a chapter (regarding a certain call between the MC and ML) that I thought was unnecessary and didn’t help clear the plot at all. It just added a big question mark for me. Overall, I would highly recommend reading! <<less
