Part 1:

On April 3rd, 2019, there was a virus outbreak and the cities were besieged with zombies.

A month later, on the national road outside H City, Shen Shian carried a heavy sword and walked around the vehicles abandoned everywhere.

“Don’t make trouble,” he said while turning back. “Keep up, the sky is becoming dark.”

“Yea!” A child who looked to be only four or five years old answered. He slashed the sword in his hand and cut the head of a zombie. Then he reached in and pulled out a marble-sized transparent crystal.

After rubbing it a few times on his clothes, he carried a Tang Sword that was half the height of an adult human and ran to Shen Shian.

“An An, I’ll give it to you!”

Part 2:

Shen Shian picked up a miserable puppy with dirty and knotty fur and a terrible smell.

The first time he brought the dog into the spirit spring, the dog turned into a child.

The second time the child was brought into the spirit spring, he turned into a man.

On the edge of the misty spring, Shen Shian looked at the man swimming and asked with a frown, “Can you change back?”

“Why?”

Shen Shian pursed his lips. “…You will eat too much.”

The man wrapped himself in a bath towel and emerged from the space with the Tang sword. After a short while, he inserted the sword into the grass and handed Shen Shian a handful of sparkling crystals.

“I might eat more but I am also more capable!”

What I love so much about this story is, how well the character development is. The interactions between each character feels so natural.

The minus, there are few coincidences (or plot holes) that makes the story's pace too rushed in some moments. But overall, the story's pace is just right. And maybe you can ignore the plot holes.

I love their team building, from only MC and ML, then added six more peoples with their own power and characteristics. Each from different encounter with MC, MC helped them. All of them admired and obeyed MC. It's beautiful!

The plot is pretty basic but what really held this up were the character interactions. All of the members in the MC's party are just so adorable and I love each and every one of them.

To sum it up:

The Dad: Shen Shian, the MC. An OP chef, medical student, and fighter with a hidden space.

... more>> The Dog: Shen Xun, the ML. A cute and sweet (only to the MC) dog, jealous little vinegar jar, and thousands of years old being who likes to put curses on people.

The Brocon: Chen Nan. An athletic student with a plant ability who likes carrying around his brother's head.

The Pe*vert: Liu Fangzhou. An aspiring shou-like medical student who has mental issues and urges to dissect people with a scanning ability.

The Sniper: Tao Yuan. A soldier with a baby face and a righteous persona with no ability.

For all those impatient people, they're probably not going to meet Mr. Gu until near the end since at this point, they're only halfway to Beijing. And Shen Xun is still a kid too.

I feel like it would be too cheap of me if I rate this novel only 4, so 5 star it is.

I absolutely love the dynamic of the MC and ML couple in this novel. MC is your typical iceberg beauty. But he is such a soft marshmallow inside and kind of meng too. Especially when he is interacting with ML. ML is an OP other worldly being that was saved by MC before the apocalypse.

The setting of the apocalypse itself is quite sophisticated. While there is xianxia element to... more>> the novel, as far as I've seen, the novel heavily lean into the sci-fi genre. The author tried to make the zombie outbreak and emergence of ability holder to be as scientific as possible so the world building is interesting. This also makes the novel potentially longer than most of the genre. But the flow of the story is smooth and while I feel that there's some plot holes, the storytelling flows nicely.

The ML character has beast characteristics but it is said that he will become human so I can't wait until they become a couple, lol. They went from master and pet, father and son, and then lover (supposedly)

The way the MC gathers his team is funny and heartwarming as well. He is not the ruthless vengeful type and more of a kuudere type and a walking example of a good person harvesting benefits of the good deeds he's done. His journey is exciting and I find myself wondering what kind of stuff he will find next.

The battle sequences are intense and detailed. While I know that MC will be fine, since he is the MC, after all. Some of the battle does makes me tense and rooting for MC victory. The zombies, especially the evolved ones feels more dangerous than other stories, it's quite grim. Also, the food description in the novel makes you hungry. So many kinds of food. Really.

At the stage I'm reading, there's not much explored about the power of the MC so many things are still unclear. But the premise of the story is intriguing and I'm looking forward for more. This is quite a worthy read. Anyone who likes apocalyptic story should give this novel a try.

The translator of the novel does a great job and the translation is easy to read. There are some typos or confusion, but it's only a few and doesn't really interfere with reading. Overall, the quality is good. <<less

Finally got a chance to reread! This time, I read it till the end after purchasing all the VIP novels from JJWXC and making an MTL copy (ooof that took me quite a while TxT). [FYI: For those who are wondering what changed between the original copy and the revised copy, most of the changes occurred in between chapters 110-180, I think. But, the changes were mostly cosmetic. Like, making the characters fit better and straightening out the worldbuilding and such to have a more coherent development.... more>> When it comes to the big things, not much has changed, but since the MTL of the original copy is a mess, I recommend reading the revised MTL!)

The premise of this novel is very similar to a lot of Zombie Apocalypse CN novels. The MC (Shen Shi'an) has a magical space artifact that enables him to cultivate prior to the apocalypse -- which multiplies his survivability after the zombie apocalypse officially hits. He's not the only one with powers, of course. This is the type were both humans and zombies slowly evolve to have supernatural powers, which causes great changes in the world's balance. The story is a lot more detailed than a lot of other similar novels though! Everything has a reason for existing, even the more whimsical magical space is given an explanation. As for the ML (Shen Xun), he's a mysterious being that comes barelling through the MC's life early on (before the apocalypse), and the two of them travel through a zombie infested landscape to start with, cultivating themselves and gathering allies along the way!

ALL in all, it's a great read! Honestly, if the author hadn't been so flaky -- revising the original copy so majorly after publishing T.T -- I think this could have been a lot more popular. The writing itself is great. The characters are well-developed and complex, the setting has a strong foundation and development, and the plot is exciting and satisfying. There's really nothing to complain about! THAT is, if the revision weren't so major. *Big sigh*. Now that the major revisions are done though (the main text has finished and all that's left are the extras) hopefully more people will read the novel!

Anyway, as for my rating. It was originally 4 to 4.5 stars out of 5. Now I'm a little more certain. With the revised text, my rating is definitely above 4.5! If it was fully translated, it would be 4.75. But as for right now, since a majority of what I read is still in MTL, I can only stick to 4.5/5 for poor reading experience T.T

A favorite! I think it might not be everyone's cup of tea, but if you give it a chance (and get through the slog chapters in the beginning and some of the latter parts) you can enjoy a very rich universe with amazing characters!

CHARACTERS:

    • Shen Shi'An (MC) : After a car accident, the MC finds out that he is actually an owner of a magical space artifact. The discovery was made three months before the apocalypse occurred, during which he explored the powers of the magical space and begins to cultivate.

The MC is the cold on the outside, sweet on the inside type of person. He is the shou/bottom of the story, and is pretty OP. Not only is he an intelligent medical student, but he's the illegitimate (but loved) son of someone in power!

    • ML: The ML's name changes at least three times, but he'll be known as Shen Xun for the most part. He is a dog spirit that was picked up and adopted by the MC after his car accident. After jumping into the pool in the MC's space, he becomes a child. And, as stated in the summary, he'll complete the transformation into an adult thereafter.

A lot of people seem to be disappointed by his slow growth, so I'll say this now: it will be a while before he transforms into an adult. If my memory is correct, it's around 150 chapters!!! Anyway, he's charming even before then. He's the spoiled!Gong type. He loves only his An'An! Oh, and as is implied in the beginning, he has a hidden background that makes him even more OP than the MC.

SETTING:

Zombie apocalypse but with cultivation elements. The MC is powered primarily through cultivation in the beginning (along with his space artifact.) The ML's powers are otherworldly (literally, but that's a latter arc point). While most of the side characters introduced have a unique set of abilities (creating a strong core group.)

PLOT:

This has Walking Dead vibes when it comes to pacing (with a slow escalation of conflicts.) The first part is focused on survival and collection of team members. The second part is political intrigue. And I'm assuming the third part will end with the fight with the big bad.

The summary of the story is pretty misleading, as the romance in this is bit a drop of in a bucket. It's really not the focus at all, more of an extra bite-sized snack. In comparison; the title is more honest, since this really is focused on surviving through the apocalypse. The setting is very detailed and there's lots of technical stuff being thrown around (which I love). So yeah, if you've watched/read walking dead and you like it, this definitely has similar vibes! Just with superpowered humans, zombies, and other creatures to spice things up.

RATING;

My rating for this novel is somewhere between 4-4.5 stars. That's really high for me! The only reason I didn't give it the 4.5 treatment is that the story starts of reallllly slow (and there's also more draggy parts later on.) sometimes I like the slow parts, sometimes I don't. Anyway, the translation for this is also far from finished and the MTL is a mess because of the anti-theft chapters and the constant revisions from the author. I think it was somewhere around chapter 180??? Where an arc repeated for no reason. I'm assuming that has to do with the revisions the author talked about because it was a repeat for 10-20 chapters. Anyway, will definitely read this again, and I do highly recommend it. But I want to wait till the translation is further along or the MTL is cleaned up T.T <<less

The plot is very good, I like the writing style, and I love every character especially MC. The romance between them is just right in the slowburn type actually there's none as of ch80 lol and I love that.

I quite liked the beginning, and I suppose the forgiving MC gives enough for a small 2... so why no more ?

i was sorry to read about the zombies in the synopsis, but the writer herself burned the surprises by doing a count down... as it is, I can’t help thinking how sad : I would never have guessed, and it was nice. Among other reason for not guessing the mysterious dog part was way in the end that and the buddha beeds was way enough to make me interested,... more>> it was cute, fun, and of course strange enough to entertain... alas again, sometimes less is more, and too much info kills the info...

So after a while it became a zombie apocalypse / fantasy mix story and that should still be fine, but it also became a food or*y story (yes humans eating mountains of meat in the end of time, somewhat more discusting to me that zombies diet), and after that a « sims s story, and a romance (?)... yes ! it’s all over the place... luckily the fashion or*y part as « dress my ultimate fantasy main character doll », is not too invasive, but the over the top descriptions of that splendid she male, oups, manly, but androginous, or was it handsome and slightly feminine... ? Whatever so beautiful that he’s everyone dream girl / rr guy... is well a bit much

the MC And ML have a relationship that goes from pet owner to parent, to... lover ? Ha if it was not written in the synopsis, i’d say I would never see it coming... but well, it doesn’t feel like anything actually... one part is somewhat of an alien godly monster, and the other a supersayen teenager genius, super pretty gifted boy... (did I say caricature ?)

like so many things, it’s a bit « over the top ? », and very diluted with well food, and what is it market economy ? Or a bit of sf things or stern yet superficial visions of humans greed or politics ?

it could have been nice, there were family background, and even a end of the word story (wait : it’s the end of the world right ? - because between lunch and super...) but every bit of story comes so far and between... everything zombie you already know (power, nucleus, level ec) could have been spiced up by the fantasy part, there were a few personal stories to develop, but you can barely find them in thi huge mash up,

to me it’s only good to read if you got a flue, are very tired and don’t mind scrolling alot - like I obviously did. There are a few nice chapters here and here, but I would also think it was already slippery, and it became far worse, when the author did add romance (a new terrible diversion from a very lost and awkward plot)

mzybe it’s true of these web novel, but this one is really a sad thing, I wouldn’t dare qualifying the artist, but the plot is immature. It needed more direction, decisivness, strong choices (if you want to wtrite a fantasy novel about a idol cooking star, why add zombies or intergalatic evil in there... or even romance ?) <<less

I decided to rate this novel by 5 stars, though it became rather lengthy at the end.

Still, this story is really good and it feels planned out nicely. Although I have to admit, that the writer revised this novel multiple times and there might be some inconsistency after chapter 200. I didn't MTL from the original raws, what most likely influenced my reading experience.

About the story, don't let yourself be mislead by the Description. Our little ML won't be a grown up for more than 100 chapters. This novel... more>> has a nice and reasonable pacing. It does not hurry to make ML grow. Though there is no grownup romance for a long time, you will not even miss it. The interaction between MC and ML is fun and cute during all times.

The story itself is planned out and follows a route you might not have expected at the beginning but it makes sense and is entertaining.

Although MC and ML are rather OP, it feels not boring. There put in a lot of work.

I was rather surprised by the final battle... It kind of annoyed me that they all knew beforehand that it will come and when. So there were lots of chapters with special preparation, which became a bit boring and I was a bit afraid that all that hype woul lead to a boring overexpected finale. I do not want to spoiler but the writer handled this part rather well. The final fights were dozens of chapters and a rough fight for survival indeed.

I did enjoy this novel for the greater parts and will most likely read it again... <<less

Very good novel. Thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. It's very much a slow burn tho.

I mistakenly thought this was finished being TLed because I remember seeing it updated years ago and not recently, but now I'm in MTL hell.

The main reason I'm writing this review though is to send a message to anyone who plans to translate this novel in the future: PLEASE, for the love of god, make sure you get your raws from the official site. The author revised the novel so much that all of the other... more>> sites are fricked. The chapters are out of order, some chapters are basically obsolete because they were revised so much, and some arcs (2 I've noticed so far) are completely missing. Characterisation and plot flow have also undergone big changes. If you don't use the official site's chapters, you will be screwed big time.

Terrifyingly creative apocalypse with a hint of fantasy...

The background is well-described, and the romance is slow burn. It is somewhere near ch142 when the ML's heart beats for MC the first time or else it will always be a situation of 'more than friends, less than lovers' the confidante type. It's some another 15 or 20 chaps when ML grows to his adult form. After that, it's basically smooth sailing sugar.

As for conspiracies, they are complicated and detailed. If you notice some important lines, you may guess who's a troublemaker... more>> and who's not. It's gives me a feeling of a thriller.

That Li Cheng guy is a very friend (?) of MC but..

you rly get attached to characters you usually wouldnt care about, because the author is so good at integrating almost everyone into a conceivable, working world. like I remember each side character and their story......... and im invested in them. author is up to some black magicks because usually I couldnt care less about side characters haha.

a lot more slice of life and believable exposition/worldbuilding in this novel that rly makes me ache for more quality survival novels that care about details.

pacing is pretty good - plot thickens in believable... more>> ways, nothing too crazy that breaks the suspension of disbelief that usually is the last thing holding my sanity together when mtling or even just reading apocalyptic novels. id say the pacing and characterization of this novel is where it really shines, since it stands out from the crowd of forgettable op MCs in zombie apocalypses with boring background casts and mindnumbing plot devices to advance the growth. I know ive said it a lot in this, but everything is just... so BelievableTM. and thats really because the author takes the time to flesh out the world, the characters, and the setting.

sometimes it drags in certain places, and its been 171 chapters and we still dont know mc's ability, since the space is from the beads. speaking of the beads - author doesnt really rush to fill in these kind of plot holes. like, I still want to know what happened to yun feiyang (???) and the bodyguard. author I just want to have a talk. a nice friendly talk... please bring yun feiyang back. omg.

but the plot is JUST interesting enough and JUST progressing enough that im still curious and not downright frustrated. the action is always just this close to desperate measures that it doesnt feel like MC is breezing through the apocalypse, either; hes growing in strength and it shows.

another reviewer mentioned it takes 140 chapters for ML to get his adult form and pretty much up until around 130 or so their relationship is wholly compassionate and intimate with none of the romantic passion. buckle up for some slow burn, babyyy. the author does ramp up the romance like, right after though, and theyre comfortably dating around id say chapter 165

One of the interesting apocalypse novel I've read. The story building is good however it is still on going.

The MC,.. He is level headed but I find him a litte cold. Anyway, it's okay since that is his chara.

I love the ML, I find him cute ? I also want to know the ML's past

Well, what I like the most is the story, how every event proceed in a moderate speed but still quickly and everything is detailed enought. I like the MC that's a (bit typical) iceberg type of beauty/handome man, still he's neither too icy nor too emotional, a perfect balance of sweetness and rationality (I love his meek type of kindnees that doesn't let others take advantage of him). SOOO I LOVE THIS.

Edit: After reading the MTLs and (obviously) overlooking at the grammar and writing, I came to the... more>> conclusion that I overstimated the plot because of inexperience. It actually started quite good (decent lets say) with the cool and beautiful but still super manly protagonist than it just became a normal BL with a pretty Uke and overpowered Gong type of story, with useless and unlogical decisions and events, the Author probably tought that their relationship was developing too slowly and started rushing up things creating more chaos and sh*t, forgetting the struggling or drama that an apocalypse beckgruond should have.

So yeah lets not waste any more time. <<less

A Pretty good zombie apocalypse novel so far.

Really Love with a refreshing new theme of no Second Chance or Transmigration thing. With ML in Child size so far, still treated as a Son by MC.

But also the usual comforting theme of Magical Space and Magical Spring water.

... more>> But because all the situation are new things, no cheat, no clue, some things does make us feel heartache. No heavy angst, but still emotional.

Really Love the Teamwork and Friendship feels. Sooo nice!!!

I feel like the writer has no clear plotline; the story is all over the place. It's also extremely slow burn. I've read all the translated chapters so far and the ML is still a pet. I'm getting really impatient at this point.

Props to the translators for their amazing job, though.

so far so good,

in some novels just because the MC had space ability, they took all the foods, and items. But here the MC still have conscience, and only took 1/3 of the spoilable food, and leave all the high calorie food for others.

when the novel was pick up, I thought "Ooh the quality of the translation is going to drop", but after reading the releases chapters, the quality is still well maintained.

I am sorry for being rude but is it me or are these side characters in Chinese novels particularly shameless? They call it hugging the thigh of someone strong but basically, they are being leech. In this novel, the MC is raising them and they don't feel ashamed at all, instead, they order food as if they are in a restaurant. Even if I am staying with my relatives I try to inconvenience them as little as possible. Is this a cultural difference that I am not able to... more>> understand? Please suggest me some novels in which the side characters equally contribute instead of relying on a person with their thick face <<less

. So far the author has covered enough plotlines which is nice.

I persevered through the wrong order of chapters - the unknown of whether what I was reading is the final edit of the author or not, and all in all this was a good novel. I will still not rate it, because I want to have it full translated as the MTL experience was... bad to say the least, but its still a different taste of the apocalypse trope so its in my high praised books. <<less

So far the writing is clean and well thought out, so props to the translator. I've read to the fifth chapter so I cant go in-depth, but while the story uses a few cliches it doesn't overplay them. Also, it was a great relief to know that this wasn't about the typical reincarnated-MC. While the reincarnation trope can spice things up, it also gets boring if everybody does so. The character's development looks promising, from the author's notes I can confirm that it will take a while for the MC... more>> and ML to fall in love. Overall, it seems promising, just have to wait for new chapters to really see. <<less

Enjoying so far! Romance is def slow, with MC playing the father role for much of it. Many things about this story are slow lol, but that also means the process of following MC for us is more realistic. I like the MC's character; he's kind, but also smart and has his priorities straight.

I wish we can finally see a reunion with Mr Gu!!!
