“A year at most.”

For the sake of revenge, I lived for over ten years wearing the mask of a villainess.

I’ve completed all preparations for my final step and ready to go into exile, but my time is running out!

‘I can’t die unjustly like this.’

There was only one way to cure myself. Consuming a small amount of a rare flower found in the imperial palace every day.

“Please propose to me, Your Highness.”

“What will I gain by marrying the princess?”

“I will place everything in Cassian under Your Highness’s control.”

And so, I succeeded in a contract marriage with Crown Prince Julion, allowing me to cure my illness…

However, wait, why are there so many sick people in the palace?

As a physician and a pharmacist, I can’t simply ignore the sick, so I decided to help a little.

Yes, I was certainly planning to help just a little.

“Princess Consort, tell me whatever you want.”

“I dedicate this very body to protecting you, my Vizier!”

“I shall name you Princess Consort, the Light of the Empire.”

… When I came to my senses, I had become the Light of the Empire.

Hold on a moment, I was supposed to cure my illness and then go into exile

* * * * *

Eventually, Julion found me.

His golden eyes shimmered like a candle in the breeze as he looked down at me.

“Did you mean to sacrifice everything, to live for others, and then… hide away where no one knows and face death alone?”

Clear drops of water welled up in Julion’s eyes.

Too stunned to say anything, he whispered through his tears.

“Please stay alive, Rohiriel.”

So, how many times do I have to tell you that I’m cured before you believe me……?

MTLed to end

FL is a strong and smart character, she is a competent doctor/pharmacist. Throughout the story, she actually needed very little saving from ML (unlike most helpless FLs). She was capable and shrewed enough to bring all her siblings down with her schemes. That doesn't mean everything goes her way all the time (some challenges here and there, but I admit she comes off a bit Mary Sue sometimes).

She, like every other FLs who are "terminally ill", keeps spewing sentences which are terribly misunderstood by people around her. It... more>> is hilarious tbf, and it never gets overplayed to the point it gets annoying.

ML's capability actually gets overshadowed by FL. Other than being a prince and slowly finding himself in love with her, he is reduced to an errand boy who will fetch medicines for FL whenever an emergency breaks out and she needs to save the day. And the story remembers every now and then that he's actually a very powerful swordsman to protect FL in a pinch.

I like his character tho, cuz he's not an over-aggressive cold broody guy with family trauma blah blah, he actually was raised in a loving family and has a normal personality. (We say NO to toxicity and red flags 🚩🚩)

Anyway, the fact that I made it up to over 100 chapters meant the story was intriguing enough to keep me reading even with the MTL actively destroying all the grammar and my English comprehension. Would I recommend? Yeah!

I started reading this bc of the chappies translated by Moonlight Novels - they're good quality, and updating regularly. So I'm looking forward to reading this novel all over again when more chapters are translated. Thanks for picking up the translation 🙏 <<less

After reading to the end in raws

This book scratches a certain kind of itch, cross between that kind of misunderstanding comedy type of novel, along with kind of an "oh wow FL is so cool" Mary sue comedy type of novel. I personally think that the misunderstanding comedy is pretty well done, and this is added to by the means of the fl's social ineptness.

If you're looking for a romance heavy novel, this ain't it. While the romance does pick up around ch 70-80 ish, and it is actually really... more>> sweet, most of the book is spent on the FL trying to bring down their enemies, and plotting against them. The fun of this novel comes from everyone misunderstanding her actions and health as she goes about her goals, and her being confused because of her inability to pick up on most of the ml's romantic cues as well as everyone else's worries about her. Honestly, this should definitely have the 'dense protagonist' tag.

all in all, if anything I've said sounds interesting for you, I highly recommend this novel! Not the highest quality nor the most engaging of my reads, but it fits into its niche and does it well enough. If you're interested in high quality misunderstanding comedy. <<less

So far so good! Normally I don't do reviews until I've read at least 70-ish chapters, but I decided to make an exception for this one. Honestly I am really into the whole "terminally-ill" thing, so this was a good read either ways, but the whole medicine thing also kept me interested. What I am curious about though, is that if the plants and stuff she said/did were actual real things used in medicine---probably not seeing the fancy names, but I'm still curious.

Honestly, MC is such a mary-sue, but in... more>> a healthy-dose, if that makes sense. I LOVE the empress with a capital L. I hope there are more cute moments between MC and her---seeing the empress scared of a needle was so hilarious.

Spoiler

The empress's reaction to finally being able to see again was such a beautiful and sweet moment.

OH YA, her getting married at sixteen??? and giving birth at seventeen???? hello can we talk more about that???? why was it brushed off so easily😦??? I know it was normal for the time-period, but still, , , , , , , , like umm.

Actually, I'd love to have seen some kind of involvement of a patient who was gonna give birth or was pregnant and how that would affected medicine for MC, especially considering how the horrific ways it was handled in that time-period.

[collapse]

And I'm kind of curious about the emperor as well, so I can't wait to see what happens next.

Spoiler

The small touch of the emperor and MC's mother having the same illness was just the cherry on top, I can't begin to imagine how MC will react and how she felt. If she can heal the emperor, she'll probably feel guilty for not being able to heal her mum. But if she can't, then she'll feel even more horrified, because she let a patient die---moreover, to the same disease that seized her mother.

[collapse]

Oh, yea, I can't help but notice--MC's family sorta reminds me of the Agriche family from 'The Way to Protect the Female Lead’s Older Brother', no??? Maybe just a little, but I can't get it out my head, , ,

Overall, this is a pretty good story. It keeps your interest, has plot and a good ML who doesn't overshadow the MC, or is a red flag. [Best green flag: not being a red flag] But I need more romance, I swear ML better come forward and become more bold. Though I can't wait to see more of their misunderstandings about MC's sickness.

"Have you had your medicine today?"

"Yes, sure."

It's a very good story but with really slow pace, though you find in the end that each detail was necessary to bring the specific outcome in the end.

Because the slow pacing and the awkward romance, I had it in low rating inside me, but as I continued reading my opinion of it improved so I wrote this review to tell my fellow readers to trust this author and continue to the end.

Below this is my rambling about the flow of the story, I won't talk about any... more>> events in the story but I'll put spoiler alert anyway

Spoiler

The FL is a strong and capable character and she seems to be that out of nowhere, but as you continue the story you find that her strength is actually realistic and the author reveals every cause of her strength as the story progress. I wish the author would hint to us that they would reveal everything from the start, because at first I thought FL was written shallowly.

The story was (revenge best served cold) kind of stories, every revenge was executed perfectly and had (you reap what you sow) karma-ish taste, sprinkled with satisfaction for the reader.

I liked the villains, they were perfectly evil and irredeemable. You'll have zero sympathy for them and enjoy your hatred to them. Some of them had a bland ending but even that was satisfying.

I didn't like ML that much, but it was like he was overshadowed by the FL's goodness. He wasn't bad, actually he was a good character who believed wholly in the FL and supported her unconditionally.

[collapse]

That's it. I have more opinions but in conclusion the story is a good story That's planned meticulously and led to the best outcome. <<less

You know what? It wasn't worth it: 1, 5 stars (just because it was finishable by skimming)

I'm simply going to list all the negative points:

-He shows his concern by getting angry and ghosting her. (Just like Under the Oak Tree's ML btw...) I hate this kind of MLs. I kept reading somehow waiting for his emotional development but... He was soooo sloooow because he has the emotional capacity of a teenager.

-The author has no new move. Constantly people are poisoning or dropping on the ground and FL heals them.... more>> 7 out of 10 characters were somehow poisoned to create a savior FL. Blegh.

-As a person who is not a chemist, all her working chapters sounded gibberish to me. I don't think the "potion" making wasn't near accurate so if I were a pharmacist or something my brain would be in pain. So I started to skip/skim those parts (which is 3/4 of the novel) so I could see the ending.

-There wasn't a hint of magic or supernatural powers before but all of a sudden they're using aura? Bruh?

-The evil duke's ending was in ***literally***
Spoiler

10 seconds.

[collapse]
I'm not even joking about this. It's a fact.

-The last straw that made me cut another star is...
Spoiler

She decided to abandon her partner by mildly poisoning him in the middle of a mountain after getting confessed and claiming that she loves (?!!) him.

[collapse]
I despise these kinda story points, authors do this to create cheap drama. It's the most lazy writing in my eyes.

Find a better novel to read guys, peace out. <3 <<less

I want to make my review short since there are already detailed review on how good this story is. I admit it’s really entertaining until ... more>>
Spoiler

FL became intolerable. After 60+ chapters, she keeps on saying she is fine but she always ended up passed out, sick, vomiting blood and she keeps on thinking why is the ML getting angry when she already said she is fine. She wanted to get better but she always ended up straining herself. I couldn’t take it anymore I just dropped it. 60+ chapters and there is still no romance. I will say it’s a good slow burn romance since medicine is interesting. Again, until the FL became intolerable.

Temporarily stopping here.

So, it was originally quite interesting for me (rated it 5 stars), but it eventually got kinda stale. Like, things weren't happening, but it wasn't exciting anymore. The romance is also mid/average, so it doesn't carry much. ML is sweet, but whatever romance is happening so far isn't anything special. At least it ain't toxic.

A lot of the fun was the MC saving people with her "medical" skills, but I guess that isn't enough to carry an entire novel as it got repetitive. The revenge aspect of the... more>> novel isn't super exciting except for one moment. I think it's drawn out a bit too much (or at least the author didn't add enough interesting stuff). It's well-explained and planned (makes sense her revenge plan required all those steps), but it ain't fun to read.

As for the medical skills, I wouldn't expect much from it. If you have a fear of needles/syringes, maybe don't read this. Most of her medical skills are just "aha, so it's this disease/poison! Time to stabby stab!" I think like at least 60% of the time she does anything related to healing blood is drawn or medicine is injected. Hey, at least she sanitizes the area before the stabbing (it's written a few times). Still, I doubt most/any of this stuff is very medically accurate, so if that's something you'd care about... reconsider reading this novel if you can't handle wishy-washy medicine. <<less

This story is absolutely riveting, mostly due to the medical side of things. There is always something fascinating happening. Even though the medicine and illnesses are made up, it was fascinating to see how each illness was conquered. Her medicine was unique because she actually draws blood and conducts blood tests, and it was interesting seeing how everyone reacted to this foreign practice.

In terms of romance? Get ready for a slow burn. The ML falls way faster. Honestly, Rohiriel is so consumed by being a physician, scheming against her family,... more>> and overcoming prejudice that the ML is almost always an afterthought. I have no idea why she fell in love with him and why he was more special to her than anyone else because she seemed to spend more time interacting with her maids. The Empress’s feelings towards Rohiriel felt more organic and realistic than the romance between the leads.

Honestly, what kept me reading till almost the end was

my curiosity about her mother

. Everything was tied up with a neat little bow in the end.

All in all, the pacing of relationships felt off sometimes, and occasionally huge climaxes were resolved very anticlimactically

such as the final show down with Rohiriel’s father

—and other times the resolution was epic. I would highly, highly recommend if you want to read a strong FL pursuing revenge and solving cool medical mysteries. Romance is kind of just a bonus. <<less

I have to say this was an extremely satisfying revenge story. Meticulous down to every detail. She's a cool FL for that.

One downside is that this novel has an extremely slowburn romance that sometimes I found it a bit frustrating. Got me feeling like 'oh come on! I need more romance~' but oh well, she's so obsessed with her work, there's no romance in the air T_T

Nevertheless, the plot is interesting. The characters, background story, It's a good story and enjoyable read. Just don't expect much fluffy romance here, and... more>> it's all good. <<less
