Luo Wencheng made a deal with a certain existence and went back in time to ten years ago, when he had just been released from prison, still young and healthy, not yet pushed to the breaking point by Luo Wenjun and not yet used by him as a prop to test drugs for profit until his tragic death.

Definitely an underrated hidden gem. And one of my favorites, that left an impression on me. A little different from your usual QT BL. The ending left me kind of sad, “is this it?” I want more. I’d say it’s worth reading! Short, melancholic and sweet.

I’ll give it a 4.5 but... I don’t know what it is about the last 8-10 chapters that I just don’t like, I basically skipped through the pages only cos I was curious abt the ending... maybe it was the whole rebirth-rebirth-rebirth, forget abt love and hope or the whole complicated doctor experiment and all... I just feel it’s not necessary, like the writer was just desperately trying to add angst to complicate the book by force... but what do I know🤷🏾‍♀️ Overall, it’s an ok read

I never expected I'd cry as I read the story throughout, but I did.

The antagonists were pretty annoying, too, which means the author did a good job with their characters. The only thing that dissatisfied me though was how easy they were gotten rid of; I guess I wanted more of the face-slapping, done directly by Luo Wencheng himself. I appreciate Lu Chong's help toward Wencheng, but I think I would have loved to see how Wencheng would get rid of them himself. However, with his lack of power since coming back from prison, I understood he had his limits, too. If he couldn't do the very dirty work, I think some verbal provocations and angst would have been lovely to flesh each character out more.

Lu Chong's dedication and love for Luo Wencheng makes one's heart full and makes you want that kind of love, too. Although it hurt me at first how he handled both his and Wencheng's feelings, in the end, all went well for them, and I'm happy.

Additionally, I have to say, this system has to be my favorite so far. They're so pure and kind-hearted, especially as they make their appearance more on the extra chapter. They're not annoying, only there when absolutely necessary, aligning their actions with their job description. I have to add that I especially admire how the author wrote the prompt of this story. It's complex but unique and still worked out quite well. I've never read a novel like this, in all honesty. Overall, the read wasn't a loss. It was pretty satisfactory — it had sweetness, heartbreak, irk, and everything else in adequacy. If you want all of those in one book, then this is for you. <<less

The story is a good read but there are definitely flaws in the plot that made it strange. Strange in a weird way not a bad way.

It starts off with your typical rebirth for revenge story. I won't spoil it, but the deal that was alluded to in the summary was quite a refreshing take on the typical rebirth trope, because what Luo Wencheng traded made the story and interactions start off in a more interesting manner. The first section of the story was fun to read.

The personalities of Luo... more>> Wencheng and Mr. Lu also created interesting interactions, but Mr. Lu's "hangup" doesn't add as much impact to the story as one might expect, especially if you have read previous BL stories of the top being a powerful man. It gets pretty obvious how to "solve" the "hangup" before the author even tells you because the clues the author gave were a bit too strong.

The strange part comes in at the last part of Luo Wencheng's life. There is suddenly a genre switch and it felt more like the author got bored with Luo Wencheng's development with Mr. Lu and wanted to change it into a variety of genres and tropes got bored and then ended the story. The genre switch and reset was interesting, but I didn't really feel like it helped in the development of the story all that much. I would describe it like the 5th female lead of a Stallion Novel (Novel genre typically about a charming male protagonist surrounded by females) she's interesting to look at but she wasn't given any sort of personality.

Overall i'd say the author probably has a history more towards Sci-fi/Apocalyptic judging by the actions and type of emotions the author focuses on and where she does well in the story than in Modern Rom-Revenge stories. <<less

Everything was fine until we get the explanation to why things/events from the past don't add up in any possible way... that thing just changed the whole story.

I mean, I like the characters, the interactions, even though all the roles are quite stereotypical they're still not unnatural but that 'thing' toward the end was like a slap in the face, even thought calculated from the start to make sense of the plot it actually has the opposite effect, making you wonder what you have been reading for 10 h.

You actually... more>> get some hints at the very start but they are so few in between and far from how the situation is presented to us, like, you thought it was 1° degree but it was actually -359° degrees, looks the same but seems completely different.

Maybe I was just too surprised, it might be different for other people, it's not like I even tried decoding be the plot, so yeah...

Even considering this the story was not that sensational, it was nice. <<less

Ok, I have mixed feelings about this

Originally I came here for angst and revenge and the first 30-40 chapters? I really enjoyed myself. The translator had pointed out that the revenge in this story will not be smooth sailing but there will be repercussions that the MC will face while carrying out his revenge and you know what? I was all for it! I enjoyed a realistic revenge.

As for the angst, well it was heavy but nothing to cry over for me anyways. The chapters were short too so I... more>> was practically inhaling the novel excitedly until the story involved the cliche element that I hate with passion:

So the ML and MC met in the past? And now the ML has forgotten who the person in the past was and he's in love with him? *gasp* And now he's falling for the MC? But but he has to be loyal to his past love too?so he's gonna be indecisive? And then reject the MC? And then when he figures out that the person in the past is the MC who he's in love with now... so his love is reaffirmed? Now he can accept the MC happily?Everything is well? And they are a couple now? Damn how moving!!!! I could cry buckets became of how effin original this is... as if I haven't seen this plot used in every second kdrama or some asian novel! I'm sorry but I just find this type of cliche super hateful! For most typical stories its not even love they experienced in the past but just some small encounter and they start to cling on it... and when someone falls in love with and they start falling in love with them, they resist but then only fall in love happily when they know, lets take for example, that the guy who was with during some hard time was him or that the girl that saved him was her. If your past 'love' was so real then why fall for someone?If your current love isn't cheap then how come you're falling for the love interest totally only when you make sure that he/she was the one with you in the past? Its like calling your love interest and the love they have for you cheap so that you won't take interest in the same person as the past now reappearing in front of you unless they have done that irreplaceable thing for you like in the past...I feel like I'm ranting a lot and maybe still unable to express myself but I'm just not a fan of this trope at all

Anyway after the appearance of this element, I started inhaling this novel out of spite and I'm not gonna lie that I even wanted this to end as tragedy. But the later revelations changed my mind

While being the same trope, its not the same at all. The ML really fell in love with the MC in the past not because of this one time meeting or saving like most dramas/novels show, but because he spent 3 months slowly getting to know him and falling in love with him.I was actually really hurt when ML rejected the MC but now looking at how effin loyal the ML was because of one single promise he made to his love even tho he was suffering... I can't get angry at him anymore. Its not the MLs fault that he forgot or couldn't recognise the MC, his memories were distorted so he couldn't help it. Anyway I was calmed down after this.

With my spite kind of resolved and put aside, I think this novel became really unique and complicated later on. The revenge part ended pretty early and then came angsty romance and complicated past part and for me this part was the most heavy. It was really a cruel twisted joke that the fate was playing on our leads. The irony chilled me so many times (if I say anything it's a whole massive spoiler). Anyway poor MC and ML, they really did suffer a lot!And they deserved a happy ending.

But then the ending even tho happy and good still left a lot to be wished for!

It was shown that the MC even tho slowly falling in love with ML again, still wasn't at the point as before. So why end it before he's completely in love. Actually if you don't want to give that, its ok! But atleast give us some hope that the MC felt his heart moving and like he was sure he will again fall in love just as passionately with the ML as before and write about how wholeheartedly the ML will try for that to happen!Maybe the ML trying was implied so its still ok but what about MC? I wanted him to have the world.I wanted him to slowly get his love and emotions back and if not that then atleast a promise that it will happen in the future? But it just ended with somewhat vague romantic feelings that the MC had and them getting married.I'm dissatisfied!

But I still loved the title drop at the end!and lets not forget that, the system has become one of my favourite systems now.

Anyway, I have mixed feelings about this, there are lots of things I liked but there are also a lot of things I just couldn't get past and disliked in the novel (like even if the cliche trope I mentioned was perfectly reasonable that it was sad, it still left a bad taste and I can't forget my headaches). But still I'm glad I read it. It was really a unique experience. Its not a mediocre or average novel so 3 stars were unfair to it, so after subtracting one star due to my dissatisfactions, I gave it 4 stars which seem perfect to me.I would recommend it to anyone who thinks it's up their ally after reading the reviews because all in all, I don't regret reading it. <<less

In short, ML likes MC who is 10 years older because of the system, then MC is shot to death to protect ML, after the rebirth process dozens of years later, MC who doesn't remember anything loves ML, but ML is still loyal to the old MC. In the end, MC died again to save ML, which later ML finally found out MC's true identity. MC managed to come back to life but lost his emotions, ML then tried to revive their love. A very complicated love journey (actually it's more complicated than that, MC died 3 times, and.... the rest are explained in extra).

In terms of the plot, it discusses more about their love problems, revenge is carried out quickly. This is a pretty good novel, but I don't think it's very memorable, I'm willing the story ends. For stories that impress me, I'm usually very unwilling for it to end. <<less

It wasn't a bad story. It was somewhat interesting. It wasn't what I expected from all the high reviews. It just wasn't all that. I was more annoyed and irritated when hoping for some sweet fluff. I guess it's the romance I was hoping for that caused the annoyance; not the characters per se. A romance drama lacking depth... eh.. It is just... an Okay romance. The translations were done well.

It started with promise: rebirth, revenge, mystery, and the calculated nature of the MC had me intrigued. But that's where the positives end. Everything else that followed, basically the entire novel was a major disappointment to the extreme.

    • Revenge arc was rushed, face-slapping felt mechanical, no satisfying payoff.
    • Romance had no build-up. ML's lifelong devotion was told, not shown.
    • MC's bio dad subplot was wasted. No closure, just cash thrown at it.
    • Gangster world and ML worship came off cringe, not cool.
    • Obsession with youth and feminized descriptions of MC was off-putting.
    • Author brushes past big emotional moments while overindulging in shallow ones.
    • I skimmed the final chapters just to get it over with. Should've dropped it earlier.
Verdict: Felt like a waste of time. One of those reads that starts strong, crashes hard, and never recovers.
