During the winter of 2019, in the city of Shenhai, a series of criminal cases occurred.

A batch of women’s su*cides, a mass poisoning at a hospital, and a huge explosion in an abandoned building in Southern Henan…

These seemingly unrelated incidents were ultimately connected to two people by a single dark thread.

Dai Xueming and Xu Tuo.

And you, the bystander, will recreate everything that happened to them to restore the truth.

Picked up this book because the ML was featured in an extra along with Chu Jiajun from "For A Lie". Since “For A Lie” is one of my all-time favorite novels, I decided to check this one out too and was intrigued by the description of this story having 2 endings—one BE, one HE.

This work is a bit hard to describe. The MC is a forensic doctor who's addicted to the experience of death, and the ML is a serial killer who's a tenant at the MC's place. The story... more>> gets quite dark (as the synopsis may suggest), but very addictive in all sorts of ways. The way the description is written makes it seem like the story is more mystery-focused, but that's not really the case since we're following the MC who's in the center of everything that's going on. I think it's more thriller-dark romance, and as someone who has strict standards for dark romance, I think the chemistry between Dai Xueming and Xu Tuo is immaculate. The tension between the two, the helplessness as they both realize they are falling deeper than they should, the premonition of doom that is a constant thread throughout the narrative.

And the relationship between the MC and ML is really a bit hard to describe because it's not the dynamic that's usually present in dark romance novels. I won't waste more words and just say they are so... yes. Go read about them.

I lowkey feel like the genre sorta changes a lot as I read lol. At first it was urban thriller, then dark romance, then there were some parts that actually made me think "hey maybe the ML is not even really a red flag", then I was like "haha... nvm”, then things somehow turned more fast-paced and it was like horror, then mystery, then the feeling of doom started really racking up, and then there were some sweet moments, then everything goes to hell. Then we escape hell, revelations, back to a deeper level of hell, but then we see light at the end of the darkness and

was promptly shot 57 times (haha, sorry Xu Tuo). I felt so empty after finishing, even after reading the HE ending. The BE ending was so... no wonder Futa Lemon Tea's readers call her 刀子精 (knife sprite/daemon)

Anyways, highly recommend this work to everyone (just beware TWs). I really hope this gets licensed in English because if it does, I can see so many people getting obsessed over it. <<less
