Xu Mo has undergone rebirth and returned to the wealthy confines of the Xu family estate.

In his previous life, despite being the true-born heir, he found himself with distant parents and indifferent sisters within the Xu household.

This environment eventually led to his untimely demise from a heart attack while hospitalized.

Instead of him, the whole family showered affection on an adopted son.

Despite this, he spared no effort in trying to win the favor of his parents and six sisters, only to be met with disdain. He endured slander, false accusations, scoldings for perceived lack of etiquette, and verbal ab*se, all in the name of familial love.

However, in this new life, he suddenly realized the need to prioritize his own well-being.

Thus, he cut ties, departed from the family, and forged his own path. Yet, as his parents and relatives witnessed his departure without hesitation, they belatedly recognized their disregard for their blood-related younger brother.

Affection, like worthless weeds, blooms too late. “I have severed familial bonds, so why do you now come to plead with me in vain?”

To start with, I don't understand why the rating is so low, because I think it's pretty good.

The story has the hallmarks of revenge, regression, second chances and going from poor to rich. And it uses them quite well. The story driving and writing is good and followable. The characters are all good. They are not masterfully developed but they play their roles in the story perfectly. The problem is that there is less focus on the main character, as there are a lot of sub-characters (I mean women beaters).... more>> Other than that, there is no problem. It's really just logical because I don't understand why the main character doesn't sue the family for child endangerment, attempted mu*der, assault, harassment and the like. The other is, why doesn't he ask the court for a restraining order prohibiting the parents and family from coming near him? But I understand that would make the story less interesting. The other is that I don't understand Chinese law so much, so maybe you can't do such things. But there is no other problem.

Overall, I give it a 5/5, because I liked it. But objectively it could easily get a 3.5-3.7 rating. I also recommend it for reading and don't be afraid of a low rating. <<less

Like Yagurl333 said you'll like this if you like grovelling.

Generally in such fake and true child stories the family is mostly guilty of ab*se by negligence rather than anything more severe, to leave a chance for redemption.

However in this book our MC, Xu Mo, suffers from severe verbal and emotional ab*se, with a dash of physical violence here and there. It's not even debatable, the actions are most probably legally termed as ab*se in most countries.

Never have I so fervently wished for the painful death of an entire family. Every... more>> time a scene of how they treated MC appeared I had to take deep breaths to regulate my blood pressure.

If you are hoping for redemption you'll be disappointed. There's no chance that the family can be forgiven by anyone with even a drop of self respect.

As of yet the MC has shown no intention of even breathing the same air as them unless forced and would happily throw a party on their graves complete with firecrackers and banners claiming that the greatest contribution of the family to the world was to die.

And honestly -

Spoiler

And honestly - I would show up to the party in bunny costume with a bucket of vodka.

[collapse]

There's a lot of business in it and I was not very interested in the business aspect. I came for the angst.

Honestly I hope there's a new loving family or lover in MC life. He deserves to be pampered.

3 stars because everything is overused. The entire story follows this pattern:-

Spoiler

MC does something - a family member finds out - don't believe/mock - MC excell - family member introspects - realises that they are all human tr*sh- ends up in a guilty trip from hell - wants to make amends - realises MC hates them - cry due to once again realising they are tr*sh - tries to reason with another family member

Rinse and repeat.

[collapse]

None of the family members deserve a second chance IMO. Even the eldest sister who as of yet is the smallest offender is a serial ab*ser/ accomplice.

Also the Mom is bat sh*t crazy and needed to be put in an asylum like yesterday. She polluted the air she breathes with prejudice and hate.

The 3rd sis too.

Please let them get some very painful, incurable, immune against painkillers disease so that they can only die after atleast 4 years of constant pain. <<less

Immediately after paywalling their content, this translator stopped posting new chapters despite the fact there are well-over fifty chapters translated in their web-site.

I’m clearly not the demographic that a translator cares about (people willing to pay money on their site), but I’ll say this anyway. I’ll likely forget about/lose interest in this story by the time it gets updated (it’s kinda mid), and since I have no intention of rereading it, I’ll likely end up dropping it.

I like reading it for the face slapping and revenge part of the story. But I'm not sure I can call the story "good".

It follows a pattern: a chapter or two of Xu Mo progressing in his life by studying / investing / business using his past life knowledge; two or three chapters of a sister realizing what they did in the past to him and regretting it + crying; a chapter of the rest of the family still being extremely biased + cruel; a chapter of a confrontation with... more>> the family where the converted sisters feel bad / the parents + remaining siblings hate him / Xu Mo not taking it. Then we repeat again and again, with new sisters slowly being converted into feeling bad.

While that was interesting to read the first time and remains cathartic, you can really only go through so many times of a sister crying about how badly they treated him and reiterating stuff we already found out to the other sisters. I can't really say much has happened in a lot of chapters/words yet, because most of it has been whining / crying / reflecting or a few confrontations where nothing changes.

Since this is what the story is, it's not going to change any time soon. So while I like reading it, I could understand someone hating it or saying it's a bad story. <<less

I wrote a pretty flattering rating (5 stars) when I was on

Ch25-ish. On the next day I can now clearly say that this is easily Top 3 of worst novels I have ever read.

This was the reading equivalent of eating deep-fried chicken liver for the first time. When reading the menu, it sounds pretty appetizing. And the presentation is nice as well.

But after the first contact you realize that the texture is off. Why is it chewy? It still fried, so it tastes good, so you continue biting into... more>> it.

Then after breaking through the crispy layer, you realize that the inside is no what you expect and it's clear that it's not super good.

You keep on chewing and crispy beats are mixing with the liver part. It's a manageable taste. However, eventually, the magical crispy exterior is gone, and you realize it tastes like Crap. 10% Crispy. 90% Crap. You swallow it without trying to touch it with any tastebuds and it goes down okay.

One piece is done, but you still have 8-9 pieces left. After going through this ordeal once, you decide to do it again and put another smaller piece in your mouth.

You get the crisp part well, but then, you somehow forgot. 90% of the chicken liver taste like crap.

. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __. __.

I do want to write an actual review of this story and where it goes wrong, but I don't want to go back and read through this garbage

So I might gets details a bit off.

This story starts off well with the premise and has some extra flare that I personally thought of before.

This story tackles this and at the start does fine, (It's a little padded between chapters 10-30. But it starts the premise very well.)

In essence, the story has a lot of "promises" that it makes, but never delivers.

  • The MC is part Psycho half the time, but never does anything to those who deserve (he actually goes out of his way to attack an "ally" in his 2nd life).
  • The "allies" during this time get SO MUCH information that can change perspectives/outcomes, but never tells the rest of the people.
  • The "enemies" of the story do their thing almost successfully and try to attack MC, but only "plans" and whatever.
The story kept on reeling me in with interesting plot points, but never delivered on them. This was infuriating because either

1.

The author was "dumbing" down characters to prolong this shitshow or

2.

They didn't know where to go with this story and kept backing out on progressing the story. <<less

If you like groveling and face-slapping I think you’ll like this one. Admittedly the frequent crying can get annoying but I am satisfied by how unforgiving the MC is. The chapters are typically divided into one half focused on business and the other half focused on family drama. Around chapter 77 I kind of got bored of the business part and I would skim over it to get to the family drama. The MC’s Treatment by his family is infuriating and his mom is straight up evil/insane.

This novel is a faceslapping one, and I mean that in the most literal sense. The writing isn't exactly stellar, honestly, it's kind of bad in my opinion and mc's entrepreneurial adventures are kind of boring but it certainly knows how to set up and deliver those satisfying moments. However, there are some serious issues. Nearly every other chapter turns into a guilt trip from the sisters, which feels like filler that adds nothing to the story. We already know their guilt since it repeating it every time a chapter... more>> is focused on them, so it just drags things out. Some parts of the plot don't even make sense, and the main character is kind of like a psycho, actually pretty much everyone in his family could be considered a psycho, especially the mother, everything that happens to the MC is the definition of ab*se. This novel plays out like a cultivation faceslapping story in disguise, with everyone but the MC coming off as clueless.

If this didn't scratch my itch for zama/karma/faceslapping/regrets, it'd definitely be a one-star read because the writing is so glaringly bad.

On the plus side, the translation is fantastic, but the constant paywalls are a pain. Only 5-10 chapters unlock each month, which is frustrating. <<less

It's an entertaining story, and I've been enjoying seeing the ways the MC moves forward. It's hella paywalled though, and if you read at a slower pace it would be fine. However, if you're like me and read at a very fast pace and have trouble keeping attention on things long term, it'll quickly become expensive. I like it enough to attempt to read more long term, but it's very likely I'll end up moving on and only remembering it again in a few years because of this paywall.

This is a guilty pleasure kind of read. Don't think too hard about the details, don't look closely at the technical aspects, and don't listen to those rumors about this being a reskin of a common troupe... even if it is.

Spoiler

"Royal" Family Drama, the whole kit and kaboodle with attempted Poisoning, Aristocratic Family Influences, Economic Wars, and Scandalous "Royal" Family Secrets (Illegitimate Children, Cheating, Child ab*se & Neglect) all packaged in a nice Modern Urban skin.

You only go to Royal Family Dramas for one thing --> **The Juicy Gossip**

Basically, what I'm saying is: Turn off your brain, ignore the sketchy descriptions of anything technical, and enjoy the face-slapping drama as we dive into a flaming heap of dirty laundry.
