In a Mary-Sue novel, the readers all liked the Devil Venerable, the second male lead who devoted himself whole-heartedly to the female lead. However the female lead only loved the male lead who ab*sed her physically and mentally.

Readers: Why doesn’t the female lead like the Devil Venerable?!

Devil Venerable: This Venerable also wants to know. But what I really want to know is why I even like the female lead at all.

In order to understand why the female lead wasn’t attracted to him, the self-conscious Devil Venerable brutally interrogated the entire cast of characters from the novel.

Background characters: I have so many things I want to say but I don’t dare to say it to his face!

After obtaining the book, the Devil Venerable discovered that the book described the world he lived in. This novel is a must read.

I was honestly scared because I read some reviews that said the romance was slow or barely existent and I don't usually read that kind of novels but I decided to give it a try since I wanted to read about a strong and cool shou.. And god.. Im so glad I picked it up !!

This novel was just so refreshing. And in my opinion it showed what real love is all about.

I applaud the author for being able to show how the MC and... more>> ML love each other in very subtle way without needing to be so obvious about it? To me that was even more romantic than other "romantic" novels I've read. I don't know how to explain it.

Yes, unfortunately it does not have smut (is shounen ai) but it so good you don't need it and we can always resort to fics ;)

To finish it off, this is one of my favorite parts in the novel:

"Protector Yin, would you believe something like this? Can love really make people so brainless?" Wenren È really didn't get it, and couldn't help transmitting this question to the only other person there.

Top tier comedy filled with interesting and individualistic characters😁

I love the characters. They always stayed true with themselves.

The plot itself is interesting because it ties the loopholes of the first novel. Highly recommended!

this story is so so good.... like a breeze in the spring hehe

at first I was not so sure about reading this story as this had seme protagonist tag but it also had multiple pov so I just decided to go with it and omg!!

this is truely a masterpiece and after I reached the end I was like.... thats it ?? I want more!!!

A solid novel.

A main character with fleshed out story beyond the novel's premise, characters who develop along with him due to his influence, and the tension just right.

I could never forget how emotional I felt for the female character that MC had to look after, its amazing, solid female characters that are beyond the role of only supporting the couple is so rare in BL novels.

... more>> Its a limited SSR card that you only have a 0.01% percentile of getting. this is an exaggeration.

Back on the topic.

I love that beyond the xianxia themes there is also universal themes as well, like mentions of astrology and gods and goddesses, it also ties up nicely as well to character motivations and the cause and effect within the novel.

• the plot is great.

• wow, the characters are surprisingly well developed, especially the women in this novel, be very surprised how well developed and fun they are, it's rare in bl novels for women to be intelligent! Women are always portrayed as s*upid, unfortunately it's rare to find a novel like this, I say you can read it without regretting it.

• The protagonist's romance is good and sincere, I wish there was a spin-off of each notable character in this novel, I would definitely read it.

this novel is great. Amazing characters, a well-thought and well-executed plot, the setting and the lore are wonderfully complex; to top it off the translation is also very good. The protagonist is a delight to read, what with his seemingly uncommon logic, and all the other characters are also very fun. This is a comedy about rewriting a previous "story", with plenty of action and badass moments. The character development of the inworld-novel's female protagonist as well as the the two main leads is well done. I can only say... more>> this is a great novel and I have no complains.

Unexpectedly, I have learnt a lot about the nature of love and life itself from this novel.

Wenren É, is a demonic sect Lord who gets a book that foretells a love story of a Primordial goddess' reincarnation Baili Qingmao and He Wenzhao (a playboy). Wenren É finds that apart from this the book also seems to tell the future of his world.

Not knowing what makes Qingmao love the disloyal He Wenzhao to this extent, and what could male Yin Hanjiang (his loyal subordinate) try to make her soul a burning lamp for him after his death in the book's, he sets out to find the truth; and in the process changing fate itself.

At it's base this novel is a story of unwavering love and undying loyalty of a Vanguard to his General, a Subordinate to his Master, and a Child to his Saviour. Thus is the nature of the vast love Yin Hanjiang holds for Wenren É.

A love capable of driving him to insanity, inflicted by his own inner demons, unable to see anyone else but his Venerable, rage enough to burn down entire cities, when Wenren É dies (or Hanjiang thinks he is dead)

This kind of love is rare to come by. So silent, asking nothing in return yet resolute enough to move mountains.

Wenren É's love is loud and bold. If he wants it reciprocated he'll have it reciprocated, he was never someone to silently back away, he'd rather burn everything to the ground. When he realised Yin Hanjiang's he wasted no time to reciprocate with his own.

"With such pure and sincere feelings placed before him, how could Hè Wenzhao bear to proclaim love for Baili Qingmiao, while having dalliances with other women? Wenren È couldn't understand it."

The contrast between the obvious dubious nature of the 'love' between Baili Qingmao and He Wenzhao (albeit with good reasoning), and the unwavering strength of the love between Yin Hanjiang and Wenren É capable of toppling cities and bringing back the dead, is far too pronounced and makes the book more beautiful than my mere words can express.

Also this will probably be the most logical cultivation novel you'll ever come across.

"All cultivators take up the spiritual energy of the nature around them. The Righteous sects are cheaters, cheating the heavens of spiritual energy with their sweet words. The Demonic sects are thieves, stealing spiritual energy with no regrets. Given a choice between two which one do you think the heavens would choose? "

Even the dumb naive white lotus female lead has an explanation behind her nature.

She's not naive in reality. In actuality she's a goddess in whose eyes everything is same. No one species is superior. So how can someone like her fall for He Wenzhao? Well you have to read to find out.

The Characters:

This novel has a cast of well developed, colorful characters that make this so more fun to read.

Shu Yanyan: a seductress, with no qualms about using futile men to her benifits. She is scheming but never tries to hide her nature. Even though she never falls in love, she changes for Zhongli Qian (cuz he's worthy of it!) But that didn't change her nature. She's still the sweetly ruthless seductress we all love. I would love to have her as a big sister.

Qiu Congxue: Oh god she's a skeleton with a face who finds having flesh to bothersome. She has no brains (literally) trying to turn everyone she meets' souls into elixirs or add them to get collection of hungry ghosts. She somehow becomes Qingmao's teacher. Their dynamic is super funny.

Zhongli Qian: The only rational person in the entire universe.

"Zhongli Qian is like a brick that can be moved anywhere when needed. He knew a little bit of everything. So even if he knew medicine no one would doubt "

He is literally the only braincell holding the people around him from going berserk and burning entire cities down. I love him so much.

Really Minor Characters:

Alter master Shi: sickly dude who coughs every sentence. But the sicker he gets the more powerful he becomes (yes he is sick by choice lol). He can cough the enemies to defeat.

Alter master Ruan: man has a tortoise shell to hide and roll away in (to hide from the main characters antics)

Alter master Miao: literally uses people like soil for growing his gu bugs.

Su Huai: was a ghost who wanted to kill Baili but ended up becoming a righteous disciple of her lmao.

As you can see the Xuanyun sect is the most unique place you can be in. No body hides their ambitions. Infact Wenren É encourages them to have ambitions even if it is to replace him. But no one dares cuz he's to strong. That doesn't mean they don't fight in the main hall of the sect all day long. And with such a colorful cast of characters you can rest assured it's going to be one heck of a comedic gold novel. The character growth in this novel is among the best.

Baili Qingmao's brainlessness goes away completely, Yin Hanjiang no longer thinks he's a sword, Wenren É learns to be more caring. Every single character has immense character growth which if I try to write will take me too long)

Even so, the Demonic cultivators never lay a hand on mortals.

The 'Righteous' sects however do not even spare innocent mortals if it is to increase their reputations. Now who is righteous who is demonic, who is white who is black, what's good what's bad? Everything is probably gray.

Personal review: I was only in search for a good danmei to read when I came across this book. Never would I have thought I would learn so much about life from this book.

"The Dao was dispassionate yet held compassion, and such was the cosmos. If a god of heaven were to place their sight on a single species, then they would not be worthy of being a god"

Everything is a just a cycle of destruction but following that destruction new life grows stronger and more vibrant than ever. Thus is life.

Thank you for accompanying me when everything seemed a little harder. I've learnt a lot from Wenren É about life. To not give up and to not fear death. If fate is inevitable you can only fight to change it.

The female characters are actually important, the main couple actually has a pretty refreshing dynamic, and the themes were presented well, love this book.

Also, I love Zhongli Qian so much.

First, this story is truly underrated and deserves recognition. I enjoyed how you could clearly see every character's development in the story, every character really shone with their unique characteristics, and will really make you love them. It's also quite different from other cultivation novel as the protagonist in this one is a demonic cultivator however, it is visible that despite being a demonic cultivator, the MC remained his morals, even greater than the hypocrite og MC (He Wenzhao).

Though HWZ is irritating, he's such a hypocrite, self-important and thinks of himself as highly. Sleeping with every female he finds and still have the nerves to say that he loves the BQM, hates when BQM is with other male characters, insisting that these dudes stole his girl, psh. Pwe. Even wanting to save himself from getting his cultivation drained and wanting to leave his sect master and master (that can cause harm to his masters) to preserve his cultivation and reputation.

On the other side, BQM is much more bearable than the hypocrite. Afterall, she's just a lovesick cultivator that needs a whack in her head for her to wake up. She's such a nice, silly and compassionate, a primordial goddess before but because of the hypocrite, she fell in the cultivation world (with the hypocrite).

aAAAAAAND omg, I really love Zhongli Qian 😭😭😭😭 he's a nice person that were dragged into the mess of both righteous and demonic sect lol, please at first, he had dealt with BQM and Qiu Congxue while traveling for 30 years then, he has became an alter master inside Xuanyuan Sect, endangering his hair (save his hair fls 😭), turning him into a cutie bald professor (happy it didn't happen)

Read this a while back and remembered vividly how the humor in this novel has me in stitches 😂 though the plot wasn't very memorable. However, the strength of this novel is the characterization. The MC is excellently written and I enjoyed going through the plots from his perspective. The ML was alright but wasn't as compelling as the MC despite my liking for Yandere characters. The changes in their relationship dynamic from master-subordinate to lovers was clear and well navigated. Overall a very entertaining and unique read!

SO GOOD!!! It's slowburn and things doesn't really hit until the half point, but it's really worth it. Definitely isn't tooth rotting fluff even after ML and MC are together, but it's cute enough for their characters to make sense. There is a female char that gets annoying, but I think she's intended to be. The writer is good at writing Shu Yanyan tho, I love her sm.

I'll be honest, all though I hadn't read this novel before, I have been reccomending it to a lot of people. All of which have given be positive feedback and thanks.

After this small experiment, I decided to read it for myself. And It did not disappoint. Even still, I have not read the novel in full yet. I will likely update my review later. I just don't want to be late in reviewing so that other readers who read after me can be left behind.

The Novel is kind of like a time paradox?

I liked how everything was wrapped up and explained, the ending did the whole thing justice. But the romance did feel a little sudden.

Its like MC woke up and had the sudden realization 'Oh! So what I feel for him is love! El, Oh, Ve, Eh!'

which he did.

ML is very badass, he just had to fall for this wacky MC. Which is not unexpected because ML is mentally wacky as well.

Overall, the novel has many questionable characters. And the whole novel will also make you question things just like MC, right until the very end, where it feels like a very drunk author came up to you, patted you on the back, and went, "Still dont understand? well, let me explain it to you then. You see it all started when Wenren E sacrificed himself in the blood pool..." while you with a fast beating heart just listened until the author finished explaining and disappeared, leaving you with question marks, thinking "What did I read? what dao did

This story is a perfect 5/5 for me.

The ML is my favorite type of love interest and literally embodies the concept of 'a hero would sacrifice you to save the world, but a villain would sacrifice the world to save you'.

The story is mainly in the perspective of Wenren È, so that makes him the MC, whereas Yin Hanjiang is the ML. Also, the tags aren't all very accurate: for example, 'Seme Protagonist' doesn't really fit unless I missed a lot of context (it reads more like these guys would switch it up, but nothing is specified), and the random 'Pill Based Cultivation' tag which I can only assume someone added because there are pills taken, though I can only recall them being used for healing rather than any type of cultivation advancement/enhancement. <<less

Reading this has been a really fun and easy read. Lately, I really had trouble reading new novels. Some danmeis are just a little bit long-winded for me. Which I don't mind, skill issue I know, but there are times when I really had to force myself to read. But I had no problems with this novel!! It captures my attention and was really interesting. The undertones of humor had me smiling the whole time I was reading it.

And of course, the characters!! Everyone was fleshed out amazingly. Even the... more>> side characters. They are all so interesting and I don't even mind even if the point of view shifts at times. Honestly, everyone's interaction with each other is so hilarious. The female characters I think are very well written and have their own motivation and end goals. Yin Hanjiang's character development was really something, I like how he slowly changed and started seeing Weren E as human and with fault and still loved him anyway. All in all I loved everyone!!

Anyways, this was very easy and enjoyable to read. I suggest giving it a chance if you have nothing to read <333 <<less

Many points to note here. People who just want a consistent burning passionate romance will not like it. This is mostly plot driven and people who don't like cultivation and dao can't like this at all.

Pros:

#good plot

#Also love the fact that their love isn't driven by lust or any physical intimacy in its growing phase. They have the purest feelings of love and respect.

#good female representation

#It has got the best male lead 3 in the universe lol

Cons:

#the plot sometimes becomes uninteresting

The first half of the novel was kinda boring, even for me, mainly because I couldn't really get attached to the plot or the characters. There weren't any "looking forward" moments in the first half. The reasons being,

# untrustworthy and heartless side chars (all of the demonic path). Couldn't relate to them. Knowing they always plot at each other's backs at every chance, their interactions just felt like a heavy sack of rice and failed to entertain me.

#the consistently infatuated and dumb original FL, the kind that I hate the most and a cheating bastard original ML who is self righteous and doesn't get his retribution or character development until the end.

#the main chars being very uninteresting and almost emotionless for the first half.

A line/comment in the novel even said, "You can’t even become a fan of characters in this novel because they can change their face at any time" lmao understandable

But the latter part of the novel was very exciting. That underworld blood sea arc was peak. Even in the second half, the side chars of demonic path won't have much char development but they atleast share a little affection. Loved original FL's char development.

#How the relationship between both the male leads progressed, I'm very satisfied. There's not much physical intimacy at all so don't expect it.

#Loved the characters of both the male leads. My fav char of the novel being Zhong Liqian. He's the most normal and relatable one lmao

I felt that Baili's char dev was too sudden. Also, I felt that the stars in the sky indeed enhanced the importance of the plot but gave way to some inconsistencies.

Until the end, the purpose of Hanjiang's mask confused me. Sometimes it's written that he uses it to be his own free self and sometimes it's written that he uses it to suppress his emotions so which one is it? It can't be both

The summary does not do the novel justice! I thought it would turn out to be a very cheesy danmei story where I'd only wait to see how the MC and ML (Wenren E and Yin Hanjiang) get together, but was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out be more than just their relationship. Very well-written, and translations are really well done.

A lot of the characters are explained well. It's such an interesting concept of changing the events of the books in the story real-time and seeing the effects and... more>> thought processes of all the characters! I felt like I was playing 5D chess. Very intriguing and engaging story where the reader

Not a lot of actual romance between the MC and ML, but I adore the trust and devotion between them.

Side characters and their personality were superb! Great characterization that I even ended up simping for Zhongli Qian, Shu Yan Yan, Altar Master Qiu, etc. At times.

All time fav novel. Made me laugh and cry. The pairing was unique and were both so lovable. It's is definitely a plus that our MCs are demonic cultivators. Righteous cultivators suck lol. Ending felt a little bit rushed but it was still satisfactory.

not even gonna lie, I read this novel purely because I thought that this book would be one of those comedic parody ones. I didn't expect anything major.

this novel turned out to be very engaging and enjoyable. Yes this is one of those "fixing (finding out) the plot holes task" kind of cultivation novel but this time, the MC actually did exactly what he should (fixed and debunked some plot holes and found some understanding of why certain characters in the novel behave in certain ways / has some... more>> weirdly inconsistent behavior)

the plot twists were pretty natural and seemless (VERY enjoyable and engaging to me), the character development of the female protagonist of the novel that the MC obtained was also pretty satisfying.

the author showed that they have a good understanding of the cultivation concept in their novel (distinguishing and explaining certain things/aspects pretty informatively unlike some other cultivation novels I read before) without it being tiring info dumps.

the romance here might not be the entirely main focus of the novel, but im not mad at it at all.

this novel also gave quite a lot of pretty eye-opening view and some explanations about the cultivation world. One of them (and also the most obvious one) was ofc the MC being someone who cultivated the Path of Slaughter, he always stood strong with his own principles in life while also being the master of XuanYuan Sect. Truly such an admirable character.

overall, this is a well-thought novel with an enjoyable romance in it too. I would actually recommend this to someone who's not into cultivation novels that have danmei aspect in it. No wonder why it has such good reviews. An unexpected 5 stars read for me today 😌 <<less
