The captain of Team Zero, Yan Yibing, possesses alluring almond-shaped eyes, exuding a lazy and carefree aura, with a deep red mole adorning his earlobe. He is renowned as the eternal star of the domestic esports scene, swimming in the sea of lucrative endors**ent deals, while countless female fans vie for his attention.

But one day, his throne was usurped.

Team Prince’s captain, Han Mo, younger and colder than him, not only boasts more female fans but also took over his coveted endors**ents. And this replacement was once just a trainee under him.

To say he wasn’t upset would be a lie.

Someone suggested a cunning plan – to disguise as female fans and duo-queue with Han Mo to gather intel.

Yan Yibing blushed in shame for a fleeting moment, then swiftly ordered a voice changer. With the voice changer in tow, he threw caution to the wind, spouting flirtatious words.

“Han Mo gege, you’re amazing; meimei loves you.”

“Thanks for the drink, gege; meimei drank it all.”

While Han Mo charged ahead on the virtual battlefield, Yan Yibing coasted along, letting Han Mo do the heavy lifting.

Until one fateful day, they were on a bumpy mountain road in a jeep, silhouettes appearing on the hilltop. Yan Yibing’s instincts kicked in, and he made a quick no-scope shot, hitting the opponent right in the heart.

Han Mo: “…”

Yan Yibing: “…Damn.”

In a hospital room on another occasion, Yan Yibing, wearing a mask, his hair damp, and his eyes reddened from a fever, pushed the person in front of him away.

“Stay away from me.”

The next second, Han Mo seized his wrist, tore off his thin mask, and pinned him against the wall, capturing his lips without hesitation.

With a deep, husky voice, Han Mo’s fingertip brushed over Yan Yibing’s flushed eye corner. “Just pass it on, as long as I can kiss you every day.”

At the World Championship backstage, Yan Yibing was livestreaming, leaning against a couch. His broadcast had accumulated hundreds of millions of viewers. He proudly showcased China’s gold medal to the camera when someone suddenly entered the frame, planting a kiss on his lips.

“Aren’t you tired?”

Yan Yibing froze, hastily ending the stream in a state of disarray.

Fans were astounded to realize that the person who kissed Yan Yibing was none other than Prince Team’s captain, Han Mo, with whom he had a tumultuous relationship.

Fans: “The world is ending, I’m tired.”

One-sentence summary: I treated you as my disciple, but…

Summary was misleading as heck. The "pretending to be a female fan" only lasted for 2 chapters and most of the novel was the "love-hate" relationship between these two dummies.

The MC and ML have a slightly complicated past with the MC hurting the ML by accident with his below negative EQ and then the ML coming back for "revenge" only to do one thing and realize that he didn't like hurting the MC. ML, himself, is quite obsessed with the MC, despite his constant attempts to brainwash himself into think... more>> it wasn't so. However, around ch40 he understands the fact that he just really loves the MC.

Anyways, most the story so far is just these two awkward babies learning to interact normally with each other again (and the MC realizing that he was just about as straight as a wet noodle). <<less

I have mixed feelings about this. The thing is, the author did all the little things great, but failed in the big picture.

I just think it fell flat in doing justice to the premise.

... more>> This is a non-spoilery premise of the story:

Yan YiBing (MC) was the idol of the entire E-Sport industry. At 25, the usual retirement age of most professionals, he was still one of the best player in PUBG and was the backbone of his team called Zero. However, he carried a guilt within him and it had something to do with the person who used to be the golden child that he trained personally three years ago.

However, all everybody knew is that his ex-student, Han Mo (ML), was now the dazzling captain of the Prince team and the two of them hated each other.

There are two big positives to this story

  • The author is really good at building up characters from the ground up. For example you can get why Yan YiBing acts the way they act by kinda tracing their background.
  • The relationship ITSELF is kinda cute. I love that once they agreed to be in a relationship, there was no backtracking or anything.
The negative is this: Basically I love the seasoning that the author poured to the story, but I don’t like the rice they cook.

SPOILER ALERT FOR EARLY MAIN CONFLICT (the reason why ML left MC’s team)

Spoiler

Basically the reason why ML was kicked out from MC’s team in the first place is because somebody spilled to MC that ML is online betting. MC was raised as a rich child and thinks that this is against his principle and felt betrayed. So he kicked out ML without discussion.

Not long after MC found out that ML was online betting to raise money for his terminally ill mother. (There is a scene where the mother literally beg on her knees to give the betting money to MC). However he was conflicted with his inner feelings. So he just kinda block ML’s number and basically ignored him since.

THEN ML’S MOM DIED.

Usually, to keep characters forgivable and likable, authors make the Big Mistake reversible. The mom would’ve survived either with MC’s secret donations or something else. But not only ML’s mom died, the author made a point to say that if MC had talked to the manager they could’ve “made a big thing small” and not kick out ML at all in the first place.

Honestly I read the whole story not moving on from that.

The things that is in MC’s side in the story regarding this situation are these:

Spoiler
  • MC was a rich kid who didn’t know the value of money and didn’t realise it could be a lifesaving amount of money
  • ML never tried to borrow money from MC or tell him his mother is dying before
  • Near the start of the story, 3 years since the incident, MC told his team what happened between him and ML and why ML hated him
  • There is one drunken apology that MC promptly forgot in the morning
  • MC buys flower every year for ML’s mom grave
  • MC blocked ML because his feelings were hurt too (because ML broke his principles)
  • Like in his heart, MC understood he was wrong but also like all he ever expressed irl is confusion and asking for validation that his choice was correct (and was promptly agreed by everybody except for his own mom)
  • ML’s mom told ML that nobody (including MC) owed them anything and not to hold it against MC.
  • ML took “revenge” on MC after that. (Except the revenge is ignoring him irl + trolling an exhibition game by seriously gunning for MC and then telling MC to “retire”. Which were some weak ass revenge imo. Give me a couple rounds of mobile legends, and I can let you see worse messages on chat. He’s a professional player, are you kid—)
  • The biggest supporter of MC in this story and the only reason why I didn’t drop it is bcs ML is such a loverboy for MC. Like, even before he realised his feelings and when they were “enemies”, he’s constantly taking care of MC and paying attention to him.
[collapse]

Look, all this comes down to, is that I think MC neither apologises enough nor did he receive enough retributions for the relationship to be as good as it was. Like, it’s not completely his fault, but somebody’s mom still died and I feel like it’s not given the gravity it needed. I feel that ML is more sorry for them becoming “enemies” than MC for making that choice. Moreover, MC teammates are constantly asking ML to apologizefor trolling back then? Even though they knew what happened? Like... uhhh.

[collapse]

Other than the main conflict, the author had a habit of introducing cool chekhov’s guns and then shot it in a way that I feel very wasteful? Like, yes, the gun is shot, but its all shot to the roof? Like it’s just a few moment of surprise like, “Ah!”, and then there’s nothing more to it.

And like I love the characterisations in the story and I love it when the author seemed to imply the character’s are going to change. But, somehow, nothing changes? Or at least, I don’t feel like it.

SPOILER:

Spoiler

MC is seemed to be written like the author wanted to make him a round character. Like him constantly realising the faults of his own characters. But I don’t think MC changes at all at the end of the story except for him having a boyfriend? Like, ML and MC doesn’t even make nice because of anything MC does. ML just realised he fell in love and wanted to take care of him.

[collapse]

Like if you don’t think too much, this story is great. <<less

C-tier (3 star point)

Mixed feelings. Do I think it's that bad? No. But is it good? Also no. It's not decent, but it's also not bad "BAD". It's really mixed to me.

The summary is so misleading. This mistaken identity doesn't even matter because it lasted for such a short chapter, and Han Mo, the other male lead, not even fooled. Yan Yibing is the main character, so of course he got all the glory. He won the championship, got the hot man, and even the blessing of the parent.... more>> All in one go. No compromises. But to me, the 2 main characters, Han Mo and Yan Yibing, both so bland.

Yan Yibing had the personality of a thin paper doll. Really really really paper thin. He is good looking, rich, and good in PUBG. Other than that? There's nothing. What about Han Mo? He is hot, handsome, and love Yan Yibing. Oh, he's also good in PUBG. Other than that? Nothing. So Han Mo also had the personality of thin paper doll. He's supposed to have this sad past, with his mom dying due to her illness and his father the scumbang. But it was brushed off under the rug with almost no mention of it at all throughout the entire story. Even though Han Mo was kicked out of his past team due to Yan Yibing's own one-sided perspective in life, this was not even the major problem between the two. They fight and bicker? Yeah, they fight and bicker like elementary kids. When Yan Yibing was the person who somehow had the hand in killing Han Mo's mother, whether directly or indirectly. But it's really just swept off, and this was not even the main problem in the couple. Han Mo doesn't have any hard feelings loving Yan Yibing, and had always been obsessed with him for so long. By this point, I'm not sure whether I wanted to continue, but I did. And the ending was so predictable it got me bored.

The story of the side couple also kinda eye-rolling at best. The author had this tendency to make their bottom to be this naive and clueless type of guy. They don't realize that the other person love them unless it's said to their face.

Gasp! The audacity of actually having a brain and knowing that other person felt something to you! Shouldn't be in BL novel!

Sarcasm aside, it was not a pleasant read to me. None of the characters appeal to me. When I read this, every chapter felt like it's just stretched out and felt so long.

Again, it's not bad. But also not even okay in my book. <<less

Have mixed feelings about our MC but ML was so lovable, that I couldn't bring myself to stop. What wife chasing crematorium, it should be the opposite clearly. Bited through my grievances and completely committed to our Mo Mo's happiness bc he deserves everything and he is my son now, thank u very much. Otherwise Kapi summarized it very well. Translation is good too!!

Anyway give it a try and keep one eye closed (it's probably author's first work) so u can enjoy dog food thrown at ur face!! It takes... more>> a while to digest and get used to but it's still high quality feast!! <<less

Originally I was a bit skeptical to start reading this novel due to the low rating, but I was pleasantly surprised that it turned out to be a hidden gem. It was a masterpiece in terms of e-sports drama trope. YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY READ THIS NOVEL.

The story is well written so despite it being a slow burn, I really enjoyed reading the plot progression and each character development. Especially since the story is written through the perspective of our MC transitioning from a straight guy to embracing the idea of... more>> being in love with another man.

The mix of angst and fluff is perfect throughout the story. The author writes each of the romantic scenes with a lot of details that it felt really sweet to make up for the heart wrenching past and misunderstandings.

Also another important thing is the side couple story is really hilarious I couldn't get enough of them!! <<less

Love this novel!!! So 😭😭😭

this is probably one of the novels that I'm most sorry for getting such a low rating 😭😭😭😭

⭐️ under 4 really doesn't reflect this novel at all 😭😭😭😭

... more>> for those of you who really want to enjoy this novel, I beg you, read this story first to the end to enjoy a story full of sweet dog food 😭😭 What a loving couple they are when they really get together 😭😭😭

like one of the comments I read, above chapter 40-50 more, this story can really make you calm, like, just enjoy this story. It's a romance story with an esport setting, I love esport stories, but sometimes it's tiring to read a story where most of the narrative is about the rules or the game itself. And this story is totally free of that!!! Esport is portrayed in a simple and suspenseful way without losing the esport element itself...

THIS STORY IS REALLY MY SUGAR 😭😭🫶

the main couple that complements each other!!! Our ML who is cold and loves MC so much. Our MC who is full of flaws, but he really grows in this story, like don't hate him before you see the end... and the side couples even make me wish they got extra dozens of chapters 😭😭.

This novel is really fun!!! If you manage to finish it without breaking up halfway through. Really <<less

While this novel was a good read, I was shocked by the circumstances that pulled them apart.

Spoiler

when I found out that the ML got kicked out of the team for gambling in order to earn money for his mom’s hospital bills, I really sympathise with him. That sympathy turned into shock when I found out that the MC kicked him out without even considering this unfortunate circumstance that the underage ML was forced into, just mercilessly ousting him. Add on the fact that the ml’s mom died shortly afterwards, which might have been prevented if they talked it out and the MC lent money for treatment.

I understand that MC may not be able to empathise because of his privileged upbringing but I still find it hard to stomach his actions. Furthermore, throughout the story, it was constantly the ML doing everything for the MC, while the MC barely out in effort into their relationship. Of course, I may be overgeneralising but it just felt very imbalanced to me.

on another note, I would say that the extras are really just that. Extras. I found them boring, and the side couple plot just felt very bland, with little chemistry.

Love the ML. He deserved better. MC has a super negative EQ and is too privileged, making him too hard to relate to. I'm giving my stars for the ML. If there was a different MC, this would be a better story to me.

Actually really cute. Romance with an e-sports background which is what I like.

They’ve paired a well to do, everything in life is smooth sailing, OP at everything, but more gentle than handsome MC with a sad alone in the world harsh childhood but wife husband him up quick ML. Because of his privilege and talent, MC sometimes acts as a derpy silly boy, despite being the older one, and it’s quite funny. I like ML pursuing MC novels and this is one, hehehe.

When MC prepped to top but got topped LOL

[collapse]

More of a 4.3/5 for me, rounded to 5. It does read a bit fan service-y—not much depth? More of a feel good novel, with small amounts of conflicts—but they’re cliches that I like so I enjoyed it a lot and binged through it. Heh.

Slight non-con/dubcon was ehhh, not the best but still acceptable for me. Also wish

Spoiler

ML went back to the Zero team; like it felt a bit unresolved how the missed opportunity wasn’t ‘rectified’ and they were back to the same team. Although they did play together as a team in another competition, I wanted more. They also did try to explain how they liked the two kings fighting in the field, but I was waiting for it after they mentioned how ML wanted to let MC go back to his previous play style early on.

[collapse]

The side CP extras is short but also kinda cute. The dynamic of unapologetically money loving ‘commoner’ x rich chaebol was funny and refreshing.

Would reread! <<less

I very much enjoyed this novel. I'm glad they passed their misunderstanding even though it was 2 years late. It was understandable as the MC never really knew about the ML's struggles as the ML never shared it with him. They are really cute together and the side CP was also very sweet, I'm glad we got to know about their relationship.

The novel itself is just alright. I mean the MC is not that bad actually... I was skeptical at first because people said he has a low EQ, but I don't really see it as that. He didn't know the situation of the MC that's why he did that, and the ML also didn't ask for help. All I see is miscommunication that led to them falling apart. I really feel bad for the ML though... : (

If only they communicated, if only the ML asked for help, they wouldn't... more>> have separated... but I'm glad that the MC is there for the ML. People don't see it but the MC is actually the reason why the ML kept on going (from my perspective), and yeah I actually liked the ML more in this novel, he felt really human for me, not like other MLs in other stories. Also if you're planning on reading this you guys might need to prepare some tissues, I actually shed some tears while reading this 😭 <<less
