A live human sculpture appears at a city art exhibition, causing a national uproar. The case is heinous and complex, prompting international criminal investigator Xu Changying to return to his homeland to collaborate with local police after an eight-year absence.

The moment he sets foot on the familiar yet long-unseen soil, memories of old faces and past events come flooding back. Xu Changying thought his heart had turned to stone, but the sight of that familiar yet distant face leaves him uncontrollably shaken and bewildered.

In the dissection room, the man removes his mask and greets him as if meeting for the first time: “Hello, I’m Xia Qing.”

Over the past eight years, Xu Changying has become the only beta agent in the AGB organization, traveling to countless corners of the world. He can no longer recall whether it was in Colombia, North Africa, or a remote town in Southeast Asia, but during a brief respite from a mission, the beta agent caught a glimpse of that cold and dignified face on an old, blurry television screen—Xia Qing, the heir to a top-tier domestic biotech group, an exceptionally gifted alpha, and a globally renowned life scientist who led his team to overcome another major academic hurdle.

The indifferent face on the old screen overlapped with the memory of a young man whose eyes always held a warm smile. Xu Changying looked away, flicked away his cigarette butt, and walked into the dust left by the recent gunfight.

Reunited once more, he is an international investigator, and he is the consulting expert, brought together again by a bizarre case.

Xu Changying gazes with a smile at that almost unchanged yet unfamiliar face—a result of retrograde amnesia—and extends his hand:

“Nice to meet you. I’m Xu Changying.”

Also known as Destined to Love You (ABO Edition), Help! My Ex Forgot Me But Still Loves Me Madly

Warnings:

Heavy on plot, with a focus on suspense and detective work, alternating between brain-burning and lighthearted moments.

Non-traditional ABO story, with many private settings in the ABO world. The protagonist was once an alpha but is now and will remain a beta.

Beautiful alpha protagonist, cool beta protagonist.

White moonlight + amnesia + alpha-to-beta = super melodramatic.

The protagonist is very beta, slightly Mary Sue.

Really, really, ridiculously exaggerated melodrama.

This story has many twists and turns, so readers should be prepared for surprises and need a little patience and mental readiness.

It's pretty dark and complicated. Lots of events, complex timelines, A LOT of characters. It describes many awful practices and events in a realistic way. When horrible things happen it's not too detailed but also without any trigger warnings. Definitely not a heartwarming light read.

I appreciate the characters being capable and cunning rather than naive and clueless. MC and ML are very powerful but the enemy is also very powerful so it balances. The beginning is a bit chaotic but brave through it, as you start discovering bits and pieces... more>> of the past and the relationships between people it gets better quickly.

To be honest I don't understand the pacing of many things in this story. The relationship. The overly lengthy flashbacks. The ending. I did not enjoy the ending either. I gotta say it became a little overdone at the end. <<less

How am I the first person reviewing this? This is a masterpiece. A true criminal investigation exploring alot of topics. It's based in a world very similar to ours (like with real city names and counties) but instead it's the omega verse. The MC works in an organisation that's like the UN but instead it's specialised against gender crimes like human trafficking and stuff. He's a beta who uses to be an alpha and the ML is an alpha who used to be an beta. They were highschool sweethearts, underwent... more>> memory loss issues and switched genders and meet again as a criminal investigator and a world famous scientist.

What's impressive about this one is the way the writer writes suspense. All information is delivered slowly, at a just right pace without information overloading. I tend to avoid criminal investigations due to information dumping but the author handled it just right. Wanting to know the next bit of information, discovery of a clue, the glimpse and clues regarding MC's mysterious past all left me at the edge of my seat, wanting to know more. I felt like I was solving the crime along with the police team, it was that engaging. A definite recommend.

I personally love the MC. He's cheeky, nonchalant and knows how to slap face very well. He isn't OP, smart and pretty much gets hospitalised more than all the other characters combined. He has more like a devil may cry attitude. ML is a cinnamon roll that looks like they could kill you and a total simp for the MC, and he doesn't even know it. The romance is very slow paced but bittersweet. As I said, used to be childhood sweethearts but the ML doesn't remember, yet somehow the ML is drawn to the MC without even realising it. I am still reading it halfway but I couldn't resist giving it a good review.

Warning: it can get very dark though, like the themes explored. I was contemplating human existence at one point of the book. Like it can be very disturbing, even more so because although it's an omegaverse, the stuff mentioned could happen in real life and probably does, even if we don't know about it. <<less

Overall it's very very good. I'm rereading it now and realizing how much foreshadowing the author included since the beginning, and it's really impressive. Towards the end I do think the author started sacrificing a little bit of realism and character consistency for the sake of drama, but it's a minor critique. ... more>>

For example, there is no way in hell some local Chinese detectives (Qi Feng and Zhao Yang) would suddenly be allowed to start joining AGB international special ops missions. And there should also be no way that AGB would allow people with relatives in Leben to have high level security clearances and join Leben-fighting missions - that is not how security clearances work.

I'm eagerly awaiting the side stories because the main story ended on such a crazy note... The author posted an update that side stories are coming but are delayed due to their life being on fire. I can't accept the ending as it stands! I need more closure! I still have so many questions!

Also, to the translator, thank you for translating this since I wouldn't have found it otherwise. I do humbly request that you double check your pronouns though. A lot of the Chinese female characters' pronouns were messed up and I found it to be distracting. <<less
