As the apocalypse arrives, Song Ke, who grew up in the abandoned area, unexpectedly awakens her special ability. Within her field of vision, all objects can be transformed into handy spiritual tools with just a thought. She becomes the sharpest blade, now possessing the most flexible scabbard. Wherever she goes, zombies of all kinds cower in fear.

After wandering alone for several days, Song Ke encounters a troublesome man. The man has a broken leg, and speaks weakly as if on the verge of death, yet there’s a smile at the corner of his mouth that is strangely beguiling.

“Little girl, I have nothing to offer you in return. How about offering myself to you?”

Suspiciously eyeing him for a couple of seconds, Song Ke slowly summons her spiritual tool.

“Speak up, how do you want to… die?”

One thing leads to another, and her adventurous path… takes a peculiar turn? She ends up gathering a series of strange teammates.

A year after the apocalypse, a bizarre rumor circulates among the major surviving bases:

It’s said that the top-ranked awakener team “V587” on the scoreboard are all burly and sturdy, capable of frightening children with their bear-like physiques and iron-like strength.

Their name alone exudes power: V587, how commanding and domineering!

V587 punches the Zombie King, kicks mutant beasts, robs the Death Prison of Sin City, and KOs the tyrannical rulers of District C with one move!

No matter how difficult the mission, it’s flawlessly cleared when it falls into their hands.

Their feats become the talk of the Alliance, earning admiration from countless ability users.

Until the grand opening of the inaugural global awakeners challenge, the enigmatic V587 members gather, making their first appearance.

The crowd’s faces turn dumbfounded, “Wait, who are these elderly, young, sick, and two wheelchair-bound cripples? V587? Nooo!”

Overpowered Stutterer x Cunning Smiling Tiger

【Reading Guide】

This is not a space-oriented story. It’s set in an alternative future with a significant technological gap (about 50 years ahead) and uses fictional terms with no direct prototypes.

Combines superpowers with cyberpunk elements, featuring a main storyline alongside team adventures.

Team recruitment is relatively slow at the beginning. The protagonist’s team consists of 7 members, each with their own flaws.

I was expecting a lot from this as it has 4.5 stars ratings currently but it was a mess.

It had so many plotholes and questionable actions. The MC's character was a mess too, it did not feel stable as polar opposite things could exist within the MC's character when the plot needed it. It made her an uninteresting character, especially her nonsensical decision. He just decided not to stay in a safe house because of some sh*t like trust chu chu, then a chapter later she decided to stay where... more>> zombies roam and waited for the rescuer to come. I dont know why she's making nonsense decision and thinking of conflicting thought.

The zombies too were confusing and unrealistic to how they were utilized. And the force drama, she had to somehow be in this place, meet some people who she used to know coincidentally, so that drama could happen.

The execution of some scenes were poorly made, it was unrealistic sometimes and the plot sequence were forcedly calibrated.

I really don't get why this has a high rating when it was not that great. It had so many high reviews that it made me question if female lead fiction readers have little standards to actions sequence execution than those readers of male protagonist and bl genre that I was used to. If that is so, then that is really sad. <<less

I just want to recommend this novel. For me, it is good to read, so satisfiying. I love the story development, the characters especially MC, ML and the teammates. When apocalypse arrived, it is for survival in the world full of zombies, then for money (MC poor), meet her teammates, helping solving problem one by one.

Not big spoiler but still spolier😁

Zombies divided to two categories, zombies that we know. Another one is the Fallen, human that transform to zombie but have awareness, and have zombies traits, cannot talk, only the king can. They are being that cannot blend in zombies but deny by humans. Because of that, they dont trust humans. They will attack humans that enter their territory to protect their own kind.

Another spoiler:

Spoiler

Actually, before apocalypse arrived, the awakeners already exist, mostly only exist at the top district. Some villains already strong but MC strong too because she is special.

For me, the stories pace is good, at least some backstories for certain character explain why everything happened on them. I like this novel because the character, plotline and story development are my taste. I like this kind of story. <<less

This was a fast drop. I can't really stand it when the author makes the FL dumb with obvious flaws when the ML is flawless (other than his leg but it's not like that affects him much because he immediately finds solutions and his ability doesn't depend on it) and genius and etc. The world building also didn't make much sense to me because the technological development didn't seem to match the geographical parts of the story.

I just cannot recommend this novel more!!!!

Superbly written story by the author and am amazing adventure that exceeds just the basic tropes of "post-apocalyptic" and "power awakeners". You will not regret reading!

The translator did a magical job translating this story, giving it life and care from start all the way to the finish.

So shocked this novel isn't more widely read!!! I'll be carrying this little odd family around with me a for a while 💕

I was a bit thrown off by how MC is smart and dumb at the same time, but honestly it's not a bad read, it's just not what I was hoping initially.

It's teen drama is rather excruciating to read, teen drama in a middle of apocalypse, sure it's not entirely out of nowhere, however it still painful to read. I personally think it serve little purpose except for establishing MC background for a little bit

When I said she's smart, she's instinctively smart, but also ret*rd in some ways, she is... more>> easily manipulated, but I see some progress later.

I personally didn't really like the direction of the story, she and her team somehow ended up in a tournament in the middle of the end of the world to earn money with s*upid viewers.

So far, the story doesn't really feel like zombie apocalypse except in the beginning, later it involves teen drama and a tournament among awakener. This can be seen as interesting but I personally find it a bit too, well, ridiculous.

Lastly, I never like dog eat dog mentality at the end of the world with little sense of unity. Survivability is paramount but when most people straight up became monsters and kill people for their own benefits, it's just doesn't feel right for me. I'm tired of humans are the real monsters bs, so my view is pretty much biased from begining. <<less

This novel deserves far beyond a 5-star rating—it’s absolutely AMAZING! I can't get enough of this story and only wish it had more chapters T^T.

Spoiler

Let’s start with our dear Song Ke. She’s undoubtedly the heart of the team; without her, there wouldn't be V587. She's such a lovable protagonist, slightly ditzy for certain reasons, but the team believes that as long as she’s around, everything will be okay. Her immense strength provides a great contrast to her lighthearted, almost silly nature.

Then we have our brilliant male lead, Zhuang QingYuan. He’s the brains of the group, and his world was filled with darkness until he crossed paths with Song Ke on that fateful day. Everything comes full circle with them—love their chemistry!

Next is Xu Xing, the team’s cute yet aloof younger brother. He only shows his softer side to the protagonist, and it’s heartbreaking to see a kid like him navigating the harsh reality of an apocalypse.

Then there’s the iconic duo, Lin YouYou and Su Cha. I can't stop laughing at Su Cha's hilarious line during the Sin City prison arc. It was priceless—how could V587 do that to our stone-faced Su Cha? Lin YouYou, meanwhile, provides the best support with her buffs.

As for our healer Fang ZhiXu, his story is the most tragic. I could feel his anger and frustration even from off-screen, but I’m so glad he found peace and began moving forward with his life.

Last but certainly not least, there’s Lu XiaoYu, our six-armed mechanical guy and a brilliant hacker. His daily banter with the male lead is a highlight!

[collapse]

Every member of V587 is irreplaceable, and I absolutely love each of their flaws and quirks. The plot twists, the apocalypse adventure—it’s all incredible!

This is easily my #1 favorite.

Thank you so much for translating this gem! <<less

Interesting novel, has a unique plot, kick ass female lead, and shameless green tea male lead. The romance is slow but it isn't aggravating. The pacing is just right for the plot.

The story might seem simple at first but it becomes more complex as it progresses. MC, Song Ke, and her team's journey reveals the wider world of the novel and darker side of humans. They inadvertently and sometimes intentionally bring about big changes to better the world.

Spoiler

MC is an orphan who gains abilities at the start of the apocalypse. She lives in a world that is separated into districts and hers is the worst. The plot is about her attempt to survive and gain entry into a better district.

Along the way she unintentionally gathers a team, with ML, Zhuang Qingyan, being the first. As the intro states, the team has seven members. With some members having a mysterious past or unresolved goals.

BIG SPOILER...

...

MC is super powerful because she was actually created in a lab. Her grandfather had worked in the lab and stole her away because he didn't want her to suffer. The lab had an explosion so no one knew that MC was still alive.

ML's father was the owner of the lab. He was a genius geneticist and many people/organizations wanted his research. Later when he died, he left a locked container that was thought to contain his research notes. ML went into hiding because he was hunted as the key to the locked container.

Overall a good novel. The main character and the people around her are incredibly strong. There are fun group dynamics as well as relationships with MANY different characters along the way. With that said, if you are looking for romance, it doesn’t come until very late. The backstory of the different characters are quite interesting, and you as the reader will know the big secrets before the characters themselves do. I do wish that the ending extended a bit further because I would have liked to hear more about the... more>> MC’s romance.

Overall, this story is a lot of battling zombies and awakeners in different cities around the alliance. Normally I wouldn’t enjoy it, but the characters’ relationships and mysterious backgrounds keep it interesting. <<less

Spoiler

The last major battle was really jarring with the POV switching back and forth, and new characters and S-ranks popping out one after the other. It seems like every plot point was resolved in the span of 15 chapters just to get to the end and everything over with. As another reviewer mentions, the Awakener Competition and the destruction of Utopia was completely glossed over which was weird because it feels like it could've spanned hundreds of chapter of more content.

It just seems like the author was rushing to get this story over with for some reason, which sucks because I was really enjoying it.

A pretty good story overall. The mystery of the apocalypse is interesting in the beginning, and though it does lose it's mystique later on, the dynamics between the team members kept me interested till the end. My main gripe with the story is how rushed the ending is. It kinda hits you out of nowhere and I was left feeling dissatisfied with how quickly major events were concluded with plenty of them happening completely off-screen. So while I would recommend the story, just be warned that the ending will probably... more>> leave you unsatisfied. <<less

I really love this novel! I’ve been into action with really strong female leads. With companions that would always be there with each other and etc! I’ll make a complete review once I completely finish this. But so far it’s 5 over 5 to me! They all have flaws but together they are such a great team! And the romance subplot is just right for it to not hinder the action/adventure of the story!

Rather than the apocalypse as the main focus, for me, the story is more about the evolution of humans.

The story setting is like in between of modern genre and interstellar genre. They are technologically advanced enough to control the weather and have a starship but not enough to explore the galaxy. So the story and the apocalypse is like a transition of the two era and the last finishing touches.

Spoiler

The story ending with a bit insight of the future wherein the humans finally started taking territories in the outer space. So yeah, the story gives a strong vibe as if this is the prologue before interstellar era. Which is also a unique taste and also tied all plot related devices in a good rope. Like how radiation cause the apocalypse but also started humans evolution. Humans now having not only awakeners but also some resistance to radiation. All of this are much needed for interstellar era.

[collapse]

The thing is, the story have good concept and good plot points, and the writing is also good, however, the story for my opinion should have been expanded more. Rather than the 190+ chapters, it should be written to a 300+ more. I wouldn't say the pacing was bad, and I don't mind having major plot twist being carried only by few characters to shrink the cast and bouncing back and forth to these few, but I think the world building and characters bond should be explore a lot deeper and more.

Just like the caste system in play. Yes, the resources are concentrated by the upper class but each area felt too 'independent' that except from not having the access to upper technology, I don't even get a glimpse how the main governing body control them. Heck, one was operating like a warlord and brought an army next door and there's no peep from the higher ups? Although it is already the apocalypse, and lower cities are abandoned, the main government is still working and didn't collapse and even the economy didn't collapse. Also, apparently, the awakeners having in existence 10yrs prior to the apocalypse. Isn't there any emergency plan? Well maybe there is, after all, the currency still works. But as I said, this was not explored nor explained.

Another example is the technology. It's very erratic. AI is very power and people can already passed their consciousness in AIs. Bio technology is also already powerful enough that they can do gene engineering, make awakerners (though very pricey of course so for the upper class only) and make bionic parts but apparently, humans can't still raise life expectancy.

Although, later in the story it says that
Spoiler

the alliance was born in a nuclear war and that the land was contaminated plus the solar strom, so yeah, maybe the alliance isn't very solid in the first place and each area operated like an independent bases and the upper class is hoarding the resources.

[collapse]

As for the characters bonding. The subplots about them were awesome. But I still says the same, some bonding and trust seems a bit awkward since the relationship felt unexplored.

(Edit: Though I must add here. Parental figures here were awesome! Although flawed (like ML's parents), they were seriously the best (like MC's adoptive father/grandfather and Lu Xiaoyu's mother). Honestly I feel so bad about them that I teared up. There's also not so good people and very flawed but still have some resemblance of a parent who loved their child, even if it's twisted.) <<less

I loved this. I don't usually read books like this, but I'm so glad I did. Great FL and ML.

Variety of characters with depth. It's a great read whether you're someone who likes books with dimensional characters or just something enjoyable to pass the time. Romance is there, though not at the forefront at all.

Overall one of my all-time fave books.

it is classic social hierarchy from poorest districts to richest, advanced technology and weapons, humans with abilities, mental abilities and some ancient chinese elements in that, army, AI, etc, etc.

[collapse]

Well, other than that, the translation is superb, I think the novel has an ideal amount of length too.

As for a few misgivings I have, well, the fact that the plot kind of always bounces back to a few select characters being the cause and effect and other coincidences, I mean it is classic novelesque approach but the world is so wide and it happened a few too many times for my liking. The other misigiving would be about the romance, it is fine, the dynamic is still not too cliche, for the chinese anyways, but I think it was kind of lacking in a way, it was correctly portrayed through expressions and actions, not too dramatic thankfully. Something still felt anticlimatic for me though, I wouldn't complain about the pacing, it is better to be friends before becoming lovers after all, but something felt a bit unequal in their relationship to me. I wouldn't read this for the romance.

It is quite comedic, in a complementary way, it is mostly shown through their group's interactions which are very fun to watch. All in all, I recommend it, yey to action apocalypse novels, kicking bu*t and chopping zombies. <<less

OMG I don't have enough words to describe how amazing this novel is. Definitely the best cnovel I've ever read. Yes THE BEST. What attracted me was not only the opness of the MC but all of the members of v587. The author of this novel unlike others didn't just create some characters to be foils of the MC. In here every character is unique and the relationships they form are not just fluff but complex yet heartwarming. Our MC Song Ke is not just an op or a plain... more>> Mary Sue, she genuinely cares about humans but cold when necessary. However she never losses her humanity, no matter how strong she gets, which is quite rare in this genre. Truly the perfect balance of cold and warm. Furthermore what make her loved ones love her is genuine sincerity and simplicity. I truly am going to miss the V587

I especially have to mention the ML (not a spoiler cuz it's obvious) Zhang qingyan aka green tea man. Honestly his character is so refreshing. Not the typical cold stoic ML he's a professional green tea man who pretends to be weak to gain our KeKe's sympathy. I love his interactions with FL and the rest of V587, not to mention his reactions when encountering love rivals, truly hilarious.

This novel deals with many controversial subjects very intricately reminding us the complexities of human nature. Not just the dark side, albeit little showed that humanity is not completely hopeless. This novel is definitely going to remain in my mind for a while. I recommend this novel for anyone who loves an op fl, interesting ML and amazing friends (who also has their own unique character with cool backstories)

P.s kuddos for the translator for providing a quality translation and giving us the opportunity to read such an amazing story. <<less

NGL one of my best read during 2024!

Superb story, unpredictable plot with many intricate details but leave no loophole untied.

STRONG characterization! This aspect is very rare. Each party member have their own complete back story and dedicated arc; some are well stored until very later in the story, adding some interesting twist.

There's no sh*t like 'power ranger' or 'magical girl' element where each member have colorful abilities. They are human with flaws. Dark past, hidden agenda, well kept secret, you name it. But they shared strong bond, to go through... more>> thick and thin together.

Now I feel hollow inside.
