Dorothy, unexpectedly transported to this increasingly bizarre world, discovers that to survive and move forward, she must adhere to one principle:

Knowledge is power.

And forbidden knowledge?

That’s an even greater power!

I find it funny that people confuse this power system for being from anywhere but eldritch stories. Anyway it's neat has a lot of bumps & constantly brings in action & hype scenes. The stealing from other stories type thing is kinda cringe & the more you look at the whole the more it doesn't look as good. You do notice a fairly good ramp up of improvement in both the combat & the politic throughout the narrative. And the latter half of the novel is a lot better. Its... more>> gaining steam which is neat. Main problem I can see is that the conflict is almost exhausting. The characters really just get f*cked over constantly. Which is good for the conflict and not nessarily the worst problem to have. <<less

It starts off well and has the Lord of the Mysteries feeling at first but it lacks the foreshadowing or the precarious atmosphere. Everything just fell into place just like what the MC planned and the villains/lackeys weren't exactly smart.

MC's power prevents her from the side affect of the whole magic system, not exactly a good thing but well, the MC needs some leverage I suppose. Whatever tools or mystical knowledges the character acquired this chapter will almost be used to counter an enemy's scheme within the next few chapters... more>> so there are no setup and you can more or less just guess what will happen next.

It's still good enough for a light reading though. <<less

This is an obvious clone of Lord of The Mysteries, which is a good thing. This is easily the closest to the original by far in style and storyline. To the point of shamelessness, but I still like it. We need more stories written like this, even if you aren't as capable of an author, LOTM does so many things right, you can screw up quite a few other things and still be fine.

The biggest difference, is that this author is a sellout. The original author of TLOM avoided using... more>> any gimmicks in his story, this author has filled the story with gimmicks.

The author has a really annoying dependance on coincidence. Especially during the first 50 chapters. If TLOM used Klein's incredible intelligence to solve mysteries, "Dorothy's Forbidden Grimoire" uses random coincidences to solve them. It's lazy, but I can bring myself to ignore it.

Beyond this, everything is minor.

Beyond that, while the story is trying desperately to immitate TLOM, the story-arcs are often awkward by comparison.

TLOM had an incredibly rich and mysterious world and every chapter you'd spend peeling back another layer of mystery. This however, is an author that's writing by the seat of his pants. <<less

Edit:

Finally able to read the whole novel.

Its obviously really similar to Lord of The Mysteries, from victorian era steam age, its magic system, etc. There are many differences, and I don't know if they're also similar to other stories but I enjoyed it thoroughly.

... more>> MC is cute, smart, funny strong, every important side characters are pretty fleshed out and alright, not terrible and I like it, its plot is very tiring to follow with no proper pacing.

Like I said before this edit, this novel heavily rely on coincidences, it's kinda lazy, annoying, and tiring to read, but hey at least author made some effort to incorporate and explain it why later in the story.

The whole world building is alright, I mean it's pretty much earth with a few modification with the nature of the novel, they can be seen as boring but I personally doesnt have any problem with it and rather interested throughout its story.

The plot and mysteries while rather tiring to follow its also really good when it comes battle and final conclusion, in fact I like it better here than LoTM ending. The fight is great, the big fight however is different story, I think its okay for the most part its just the nature of power level make it hard to enjoy for me, the final fight though I really like it in a sense.

Some things I like in this novel is how Dorothy bond with other characters normally without using facade all the time and she's never been alone, always helping and being helped by others, the ending like I said is good and probably the first novel I read that explain the mysterious system and include it to the plot, I also like the epilog showing every characters how they gonna live their lives later and overall happy ending.

All in all its solid 8.5 for me.

Ps: 200-300 last chapters are soo damn long to the point it took me 15-20 mins to read a single chapter, some even took 30 minutes, outrageous hahaha.

Absolute cinema. Full recommendation.

The premise and world-setting are reminiscent of Lord of the Mysteries. Mystical artifacts, beyonder sequences, and gruesome deaths. This story has it all. The iconic sense of mystery as well as the tantalizing foreshadowing lay the foundation for a story that shapes up to be a hidden gem.

While the story was quick to capture me, I couldn't help but notice minor flaws. The adaptability of the transmigrated main character is surprisingly fast, perhaps unbelievably so. The pace is brisk, and the main character advances quite fast. And... more>> while this may be a testament to to how much I enjoyed the story, I couldn't help but wish for a more slow-paced and thorough world-building.

Overall, a promising start to a story with tons of growth potential. A rare delight in the vast ocean of mediocrity. <<less

A lot of people say it is like LOTM, but in my eyes, surprisingly, it is not. While it world following mediavel steam punk like LOTM, it is, frankly, alot lighter than LOTM. I feel this is more like story 'I'm Not Demon Lords Lackey' especially in the luck department.

In this story, the author tell the story or information more from people speaking to other people. It is lacking descriptions, which make the subtle dark atmosphere or even alot of other (even any) feelings in the story decrease or even... more>> hard to be felt by readers. It also lacking the tight rope walk that LOTM have that shows to the readers how thin the line between sanity and insanity that exist.

Simple example is, we know that MC care about her brother, but to be frank, their relationship and MC's relationship with other peoples feels very superficial. It is like, (maybe it is just me), we know MC care about her brother, the interactions is like... have no depth? Like so far I only see MC protecting her brother once, that is because he is her brother? Even their nagging conversation is lacking in mc'respon... Ugh, I have hard time to describe it.... Like, where is the family love? It is like the interaction in the story is only when necessary. Like that. Or maybe because I read too much slice of life that have more things like that? To be frank, the character feel like 2D.

The MC's ability itself is too overpowered. Like her ability to auto filter pollution, or even the 'system' (as I am still too early to know the spoiler) that exist and give her ability, they make the this story lacking in tension (for me).

The most problematic things is, there is no 'despair' that should exist in dark fantasy story. In LOTM, the further reader read, the more they are able to feel the subtle despair that exist and keep pressing. Even, Klein, as MC itself, can be seen walking a tight rope between sanity and insanity. The struggles to stay sane, to keep walking a dark path while knowing that you are losing yourself. Even the gentle weak hope that shine because the MC's struggles to ensure that hope still exist. It is not felt at all...

I think I will read this as a light/adventure story rather than horror/action/thriller story.

Privately, I hope most of people not reading it because of fanservice. Especially as MC, and her team is all female with good look.

In term of horror, there is no horror at all, the atmosphere is simply not there. <<less

I really like this one. The MC takes over the body of a recently deceased girl and has to survive with her wits and a few special abilities, while trying to find out the secrets of the new world. This alone would be pretty generic, but the way the MC is written is really good, the story is engaging and the setting is phenomenal.

First about the MC. She's a clever protagonists that's rather weak physically, who has a few special abilities, but still has to gather information, make intelligent decisions... more>> and forms well thought out plans in order to succeed. Nothing too special, but what sets this above many novels with the same protag archetype, is that she isn't unbelievably intelligent, and doesn't know things she shouldn't. She has to make guesses about the world, many of which are revealed to be only half right, and then correct herself later.

Second about the story. Its solid. Its decently paced, the character's (including the villains) aren't braindead, the actions well written and its just a really good time overall.

Lastly the best aspect of this story is probably the setting. Its basically Victorian England, with the weaponry, technology and underlying mysticism from this era. The difference being that the secret societies actually have varying supernatural abilities depending on their type, with the power system itself is implemented really well.

As for the cons, the MC does get a little too much plot armor at times, like learning to use an ability at the right moment, and her special ability is a little too strong, but this isn't enough to seriously detract from the novel. <<less

Definitely a good novel! I would recommend all of you to read it!

To put this novel in simple and short words, it's like LOTM but with a slightly easier difficulty...?

(I'm not good at writing reviews, but I'll try.)

... more>> Just like many people said, this novel definitely lacks the horror and tension of LOTM, but the mysteries, world-building, and lore are pretty solid. I wouldn't say they're peak, but they're still much better than many novels I've read.

The plot is pretty slow-paced and casual, which I really appreciate. We hardly see any long time skips (like years), only short time skips (mostly weeks). The better mysteries, world-building, and lore come much later—after reading over 100 chapters or so—so yeah, you definitely need some patience with this novel.

As for the MC, she's pretty rational, calm, and super smart (her being smart and calm is mostly related to the abilities she got). She's always prepared and makes plans like Klein in most situations. Although she doesn't show much personality or emotion, she's still cute sometimes—so yeah, it's enjoyable~

The power system is really good. Although it has some aspects copied from LOTM, it's still very different from it (unlike The Speedrun Manual of Miss Witch, which power system is just a straight-up copy of LOTM). This novel's power system has its own unique structure and powers, which is one of the things that got me hooked. (The best thing about the Power system is Dorothy exclusive system and many references to video games abilities~)

Another likable thing is the villains. Like that one guy said, the enemies in this novel have some common sense and are smart, which can sometimes even trouble our MC (although most of the time she's always one step ahead). The enemies also have unexpected trump cards that can save them at the last moment. Although we haven't gotten any formidable or long-term antagonists yet, I can wait...

The last thing I want to talk about is the battles between Beyonders. They are interesting, with each Beyonder using their own unique abilities and artifacts. But for now, they're not on the same level as LOTM. Mostly, the abilities shown so far are raw powers; hardly any conceptual abilities have been introduced. But I think I'm complaining too early because there's still a lot more to read...

One thing I wanna complain that gender bender hardly matters, MC just adapts too fast in her new body and this novel doesn't have romance or any s*xual moment, so yeah just don't worry about gender bender tag, it's just for plain decoration...

Overall, I think this novel definitely deserves the 4.0+ rating!

I'd rate it 4.5/5.0! Have a fun time reading this novel~ <<less

This is a pretty fun novel, set in a similar setting said by other reviews.

What I find interesting was the world building, absolute cinema, with great depth with a good amount of information. Not to the point it becomes tedious.

The interactions are fun, the translators really nails what Victorian Englishmen says.

It's a really good novel.

The story is interesting and and fun to follow. MC is inteligent and trys her best in all situations,

other character are also involved in the story and not just empty place holder.

Fully recommended I would say.

Started reading today, and I'm just cruising through it: Pacing is just right for me with the relatively regular action. And the action! The action part is written excellently with the mysticism at the axis of the story is forming a nice constant tension.

Character building is a little neglected for the above mentioned fast story progressions sake, and I'm still trying to figure out the protagonist. Though so far she is alright and the other characters are fun.

Definitly recommend it.

PS Oh, and no romance is always a bonus, rare to... more>> find fMC with no romance. <<less

The story takes inspiration from lord of the Mysteries for its power system and world building then goes on to do it's own thing. The MC is suddenly thrust into a life threatening situation right after they get transmigrated, now they have to survive and navigate this new world. Right now, it's mostly that plus gathering knowledge to become more powerful. It's a good story with decent pacing and I think it could grow on to become much more in the future as the chapters stockpile.

The novel has good building world with lots of unknown history, ruins, deities and organizations. The novel can make the world move as the story progresses, which makes it realistic and logical.

Our MC planned well before the confrontation as well as the Villains so it is exciting to keep up with the story

Although our MC has system support, she is restrained to stick with the setting so she has to use her power wisely

Overall, this novel is well-written

It's good, the premise and power system is solid and was thought out by the author. The antagonists aren't the typical brainless idiots and actually think things through, becoming a "Ha! I outsmarted your thinking!", the antagonists make rational decisions from their current circumstances and personality.

The worldbuilding is solid and well paced, information is fed at the right time and doesn't overload you with useless info.

I really love this novel; the world-building and power structures are very well made. This novel leans toward some misunderstandings tropes, but they are planned misunderstandings, unlike other novels where they happen purely by accident. Dorothy is a smart person, but she is not so smart that she acts like she knows everything. The enemies are not dumb either; their actions are always understandable from their perspective. I recommend that everyone read this novel; you won't be disappointed.

I actually enjoyed reading despite the frequent word dump. Yes, most dialogues are like character A explaining something and MC repeats it with a question like

A: The Z is blah blah blah

MC: The Z is blah blah blah?

A: yes, additinal info here

MC monologue: who wouldve thought that Z is blah blah blah

Still, I read it since it's similar to lotm.

The storytelling is lightly suspenseful with a thrill of adventure. While the author does a lot of good buildup, ultimately we know that the protagonist is protected heavily by plot armor and a good ending, so that makes the story much less impactful. It's got a lot of good action scenes and descriptions that break away from how many Chinese novels tend to be, which merits high marks just for that.

The power scaling gets a tad ridiculous but it's very riveting and a great way to pass time. There is... more>> definitely a lot of lore dumping but chekov's gun is used to great effect so it's not all filler. That being said, there's a high chance the translation is AI-assisted, if not completely AI-powered, as plugging in the raw returns a text that is 90+% close enough to what is posted here. <<less

The premise is pretty interesting in my opinion, so far her abilities are pretty powerful for her levels but thats not to say that the MC is just OP. She at least utilises all her abilities properly and plans how to fight instead or rushing in willy nilly. I do think that the frequency of supernatural events could be tuned down but overall, still pretty great. Hopefully, it gets better and better.

The gender bender part is irrelevant; it literally doesn't play any part in the story besides maybe 10 comedy paragraphs in character interactions. Characters are okay and most villains have some human shape, but because of the MC's abilities they all feel like actors in a theater. My personal grudge is that almost all climax endings in the arcs disappoint me. I always expect something from the MC because of her fun "cheat ability, " but there's nothing besideserten mind games. However, not always, just in most cases. Other than... more>> that, the world-building, story narrative, main cast, plotline, and action are above average, so I definitely recommend the novel. As I said, the gender bender was off-putting at face value in the tags for me, but it's nonexistent. 4.5* if you compare it to new titles here. <<less

Peak writing, it make a lot of vibe similar to LoTM, and since LoTM is peak, this one also peak

Good world building, the world is describe vividly, which each nation have its own environment, politic structure, plot twist also nicely done.

Character, sadly, not as good as I thought, but still quite entertaining. Not much emotional scene and character development. Side character is simple mind and sometimes repeat the same thought and habit, but still, it's not much of a cons

Power system is excellently build, although it's quite similar to LoTM,... more>> it's also different. In most case, there are also some interesting power pathway, and the way the fight playout also very interesting

The most brilliant done is the build-up. Of course, I can't compare it to LoTM, which have good climax build-up and foreshadowing. But still, the plot build-up is so well done when it slowly arrive to the plot climax, it just, peak

as for the MC, MC is very intellect, smart, pure WIS build. She is OP in a different way, of course not for direct combat, but for how she outsmart the other smart opponents (The villains also scarily smart, btw). How she use different alias to communicate also interesting. However, plot amour, no clear goal, and Gender Bender tags just there for decoration also the cons <<less

So as the novel tittle said, this is about Dorothy and her obsession for looking a lot of grimoire.

Reading this novel feels like reading the grimoire it self, everytime Dorothy find and get new grimoire.

The grimoire magic system is not overpowered as you think.

... more>> it's not s*upid Japanese harem, haha read grimoire spam the hell out op magic.

No no no, in this world basically, even normal knowledge, it can be poisonous, can break your mind make you crazy.

In this world Imagine reading about how to make a engine, drug or cars. It can make you crazy.

The mana system replace by very hard to get point number each type, you cannot spam op grimoire spells every time.

To recover the points you need between hunting dream animal (that Dorothy does not do) or reading new grimoire or other methods for each cult.

And I Like the grim dark world building with less humanity, you neither die eaten by cannibal cult or your bone use by stone cult out of nowhere.

Human life is consumption for the cult. Also if you like necromancer main character + smart & strategist ? This is for you. <<less

I want to give a review that may not be very helpful, but I want to give my thoughts or concerns throughout reading this novel

so like this, throughout the story there are some that make you emotional, but still within reasonable limits, but what makes it uncomfortable is that there is too much yapping, what's more, the little yapping throughout the 300 chapters I read only explains the world a little bit and only explains trivial things that can be skipped up to hundreds of words throughout the chapter.

then there's... more>> more, like the logical flaw about the equivalent exchange made by Dorothy, but sometimes it's not done just because she's helping a friend, oh sh*t come on, this is favoritism when you see other Dorothy followers who are given help must give her a deposit according to what was helped. <<less
