“I killed my mother.” ―Rin Yorunagi received a shocking confession from her former classmate Hikaru Natsuno on August 24th right after the summer vacation.
Rin met Hikaru a year and a month back in the summer.
Rin, who was not attending school at the time, visited her high school solely to submit her withdrawal form. There, she came across a male student attempting to jump from the fourth-floor window. That boy was Hikaru Natsuno, an academically excellent and handsome student who stood at the pinnacle of the school’s hierarchy.
Discovering that they shared similar tastes in novels and movies, the two deepened their friendship through LINE messages. Rin eventually learned that Hikaru was struggling with his relationship with his parents. Although Rin had decided to drop out of school due to problems with her friends, she decided to take a six-month leave of absence and return to school as a sophomore in April.
Then, on the morning of the first day of school after summer vacation, Hikaru was waiting for Rin at the bicycle parking lot because she was late. Confessing that he had killed his mother, Hikaru then took Rin on a journey of escape.
When Rin asked him what they were going to do, Hikaru suggested a game. For the seven days until the end of August, they would take turns killing one person they wanted to kill each day…
Having lost their way, the two become weapons. A delicate depiction of the dangerous side of youth, painted with a fresh sensibility. Winner of the 18th Shogakukan Light Novel Award.
