The boss (the goddess) didn’t know about the final boss’ struggles

After (possibly) dying from overwork, the protagonist, Jiro Hasegawa, found himself reincarnated as a dungeon monster in another world. Through sheer effort and continuous evolution, he eventually rose to the position of the final boss, entrusted with guarding the deepest part of the dungeon.

Even though he kept working hard, one day, his boss—the goddess—suddenly deemed him too costly to maintain and attempted to transfer him to another dungeon… or so he thought. Instead, he got fired.

However, the place he ended up in was Earth.

Taking on a human form, Jiro found that time had barely progressed on Earth. And so, he decided to enjoy the continuation of his previous life.

Anyway, time to enjoy my retirement life!~

I was on the fence about whether to give this four or five stars, but in the end it was funny enough for the fifth.

Just don't go into it expecting a deep plot... or even setting.

First off, what's not mentioned in the synopsis is that not only are there dungeons that need to be cleared by awakened in the world that the MC returned to, but he did return to where he came from. In other words, it was a modern fantasy even before he died and was reincarnated as... more>> a monster, he just wasn't an awakened person.

Anyway, he takes on his old human form and tries to figure out a way to fit into the society without relying on his office skills that he forgot in the century that he spent as a monster. And in that process, he also occasionally goes into dungeons, and as such novels usually go, he's very overpowered.

On this note I have to mention that I actually appreciate that the author didn't create artificial tension to write this as an action fantasy. There are fights, but when the MC is involved the outcome is clear, and the focus is on the comedy.

That said the characters and their relationships are pretty shallow so far. There are definitely missed opportunities to make the story interesting by focusing on the characters and their interactions, but aside from some situational humour, it's nothing special. The MC himself doesn't have a strong character or identity either. And while that is explained by his shifting essence as an evolving monster to some extent, it doesn't make it interesting to read.

Although it might be an unfair comparison, but even the spider MC from Kumo desu ga, nani ka? Has a much stronger identity and intense personality. Such things allow the reader to empathise with the protagonist and immerse themselves more deeply. However, in this novel that effect is very weak.

Anyway, although I was slightly disappointed and the whole thing doesn't exactly seem super original, I still ended up enjoying it quite a bit so five stars it is. <<less
