I've read the author's other novels too and if there's one thing I really love about it the most is how wholesome their family is T_T. We get too many books with very tragic family backgrounds, so to have a very supportive and funny family is really heartwarming.

Aside from that, I really love how the MC's character is just the right amount of innocent, level-headed, paying back slights without crossing the bottomline. Also, the ML's are really lovable T_T in a way that you know they need and deserved to... more>> be love the most, so for them to finally receive it and also give back mutually is so moving.

So far I really love this, and it's climbing fast on my fave ent. Au fics. The translation is also pretty smooth so thank you for that T_T. However, I will mtl the rest of the chapters 'cause I'm desperate to know how it progresses. I will re-read it once again though when there are more officially translated chapters. <<less

I really liked the MC and ml’s relationship—super sweet and heartwarming. I didn’t really mind how op the MC was either, though I was a bit put off by how the author completely skipped over the plots of the films he acted in. To me, it felt kind of lazy, but who am I to judge.

The only reason I stopped reading is because of how uncomfortable I got from all the not-so-subtle nationalism and digs at other countries (especially towards Japan and America). At some point, it felt like the... more>> story became about proving China’s superiority rather than the mc’s journey. If this kind of stuff doesn’t really bother you, I would recommend reading just for the romance. <<less

I think I liked this more the Very Happy which was written by the same author with the same theme in terms of the whole ambiance. To be honest, this novel and Very Happy are pretty similar in a lot of aspects but I think I would choose this a bit more.

Gongxi Qiao, even though not as powerful and rich as Xi Qing, he can still hold his own and I don't really believe that without Xi Qing, he would be nothing. I can actually see how he... more>> can handle everything with his own skills. It was actually Xi Qing's insecurity that he thought Xiao Qiao is very independent to the point that he's no use for him. I loved how the transition from them being strangers to being friends and eventually being lovers, it's smooth and very natural. I also loved the way the confession was handled. It can actually be called a failed confession in Xi Qing's perspective because he was rejected but I do think that it wasn't a failure at all. His confession was rejected by Xiao Qiao but his actual feelings weren't. I loved that Xiao Qiao didn't accept him right away not because he doesn't have feelings for him but because he thought Xi Qing doesn't know him well enough and has given him time to know him more first, that if Xi Qing still choose to be by his side even after knowing the real him, he would be the one to take the initiative to step forward and hold his hand. Those parts were actually conveyed very realistically.

Also, I loved the Xiao Qiao's parents so much for being so cool and open-minded!!

Though the plot is still very simple, it was portrayed better in this novel than in Very Happy, so I'm pleased. But I still highly recommend both novels because both are fun and easy to read.

There are a few trigger warnings though, such as su*cide, discrimination and s*xual assault, nothing foreign when it comes to the real entertainment business. <<less

I am not sure should I writ any review. I let go ahead after thinking for few mins... this story is very satisfying and pleasing with MC spotless Son of God character. Everything on earth is for his success. However, it also makes you feel ease and kind of satisfactory. Just read it when you are free. Just some plot is too short which can be abit more information and dramatize.

One of the most satisfying read I had. I actually came for the face slapping and smooth sailing life of the MC. His parents were lovely and adorable, ML was also cute and the MC was a lazy person behind closed doors. I thought he transmigrated at first and was quite uncomfortable bcs the MC was loved by his parents so much, but it was clarified that he was actually reborn (like he lit started as a baby) but retained his past memory. It wasn't the usual white lotus MC,... more>> but an MC that also pit others and hold grudges. Also not the MC with miserable background and such which is quite a breath of fresh air. I actually got bored halfway because of the repeated routine of face slapping, but I stayed because of their relationship. I also love the fact that the side characters didn't turned out the way you would predict. Gu Nan for example

Spoiler

I thought he would be a bad guy because of the way he was introduced, but he turned out to be a good one. And Liang Yu Meng? Can't really remember but I thought he was a sensible character because of what he said at first but he turned out to be a foolish cannon fodder. You can't really judge the characters at first meet lol

[collapse]

I didn't even noticed I was already at the end of the story until I read the (end of main text) notice. I love it. <<less

I read the novel not knowing that I have already read 3 other novels under the author. The plot was good, the MC is OP and ML is even more OP plus the parents were neither over bearing nor over enthusiastic.

I love how MC used all his learned strategy from his previous life to make things work in his favor plus it was well explained.

The only thing I was a bit disappointed about was the way they came out. I would have wanted it to come out earlier adding a... more>> bit of drama but all in all it's a well rounded novel. <<less

It's your usual, OP MC story with an even more powerful doting ML, but it's well written and the characters have a genuine chemistry. The aspect I enjoyed the most was the relationship between MC and his family, it's quite refreshing - both in the way of MC just using the resources he has without any shame or pretense and the loving atmosphere the whole family has. It's just nice.

So, if you want a literary classic with unique plot and characters, don't bother. But if you're just looking for an... more>> enjoyable light read, please go ahead and enjoy! :) <<less

I expected more from this author. Leaving this unrated as I couldn’t even bear to finish this... thing.

1. The Sue-est of the Sues and Stus is how I would describe the protagonist. The less generous descriptor would be: dull as cardboard. The author, esp with her most recent works, tends to write protagonists as perfect and almost universally lovable as they can be. That is fine and what would you would expect from far too many cnovels, but write one who is at least interesting. And this character had the... more>> potential to be. He could’ve been a morally grey character based on his reputation in his past life. As in someone who had actually done horrible stuff (and that is normal when you live in unstable times!). But the protagonist halo in his current life is seriously way too bright. He just doesn’t have a golden finger, he has golden hands. We don’t get to see him work, try hard, or even fight for things before he eventually wins everything. Setbacks are nothing. Worst of all, he has no motivation, no needs. Acting may be a job, but if he fails? He has a loving wealthy family to fall back onto and a lucrative career in something else he considers his hobby. Even when he eventually gets together with the ML, there is no need for much emotional investment on his side. And the narrative constantly conflates his importance, so much that it is so unrealistic, even by escapist novel standards. No stakes, no character, boring all around.

2. Ah the themes. Pro-establishment, pro-status quo, veneration of authority. This is the story of a 1% being elevated to the status of the 0.01%.

Spoiler

a. We are told, in a few short paragraphs, that an antagonist, Bai Zhong, cooperated with a foreign company and threatened to de-stabilize the market. Which market? What did he actually do? Why? They never tell us. All we know is bad guy almost “de-stabilizes” the market, which is bad, and he alongside the president of that foreign company gets punished.

b. ML is so ~scary~ and so ~high up above~ none of the side characters dare to look at him eye to eye, talk to him, or interact with him. They can’t be comfortable around him and only see his status and power, almost in a dehumanizing way. And that’s apparently normal and fully acceptable.

c. MC male god being so perfect he is out of everyone’s league. So they are deterred from even trying to woo him. Kinda sad, really.

d. In this simplistic world, everything that praises the MC is a true good. We learn that the Huaxia National Broadcasting Station is a very good thing. The National Broadcasting Station and related organizations gets so much screentime they become a veritable supporting character. I swear, I know more about what the National Broadcasting Station’s preferences are than the main characters’.

e. The promotion of MC to the most prestigious elite is natural and relevant!, because boyfie is already the elitest of the elites, okayyyy??! (Sorry I’m just tired at this point)

You know, there were points that could’ve been made here. Cannes FF was aptly described as one which glorifies films about poverty and suffering. Juxtapose it with the glitz of the red carpet, the expense of the hotels, and the luxury yachts by the bay. Also, if they attempted to explore the ML’s psyche a bit more, then he could be made more like a mortal.

[collapse]

3. Show don’t tell. Basics. Oftentimes, the sequences of events were being narrated like a summary. We don’t get to know the details, the whys and the hows, only that this person did this thing, bad person did bad thing and good person is praised for being good.

4. As per usual, foreign relations and depictions of foreign peoples and cultures are a bit hairy. No one wins if representation of other countries border on caricatures. Is it punching up or is it returning prejudice with more prejudice?

5. The translator definitely tried their best, so kudos to them. But, they were not the best person for the job. Many details in the language like colloquialisms, idioms, and internet lingo were not well translated or even fully comprehended by the tler. No shade, but there were sayings and terms that even I knew the meaning of, simply because I’ve read a lot of other cnovels. The footnotes and the surrounding text that I’ve consumed prior helped me contextualize their meanings.

The author is usually one who has great empathy towards her characters. Unfortunately I cannot extend the same towards them here. <<less

I just finished reading this and while I do have some things that bothered, me, I will say; the ending was so gentle that I found myself thinking about the people I stan and how one day, when they gradually step out of the limelight and my life is moving slowly towards its end, I hope I’ll think back so lovingly about the boys that have saved my life.

In all honesty, I’m very emotional because of the last extra, so I’m not sure I really want to go into... more>> detail about what I likes and disliked. Just know that it’s Gary Sue to an extreme but it’s still pretty good. I like face slapping plots so I was happy with this.

I saw reviews saying the MC was a bit of a Mary-Sue type but did not realize how extreme it was. MC is rich, gorgeous, has powerful parents, a top student who graduated from the best university, the movie emperor, humble personality, the best painter in the country knowing long lost techniques, has won countless awards, is amazing at calligraphy, impresses historians with his knowledge, and so on.

It makes the novel feel boring tbh because MC's life is smooth sailing and nothing else. He is also so impossibly unreal like... more>> damn if I had 0.0001% of MC's skills my life would be amazing. I love OP characters but I've never seen a character with so many talents and no flaws like this one that he feels so flat and hollow.

Regardless, this is a solid 4 stars. It's one of the author's worse novels, not that it's particular bad but that some of the others are amazing and my favourite novels. <<less

I have read Very Happy by the same author, so I can't help but compare.

The MC in this novel had been reborn, but I do believe he could achieve his good points without the whole rebirth troupe. The parental love was heart warming, and the reciprocation of that love by MC was lovely too. ML's development of love should have some more depth. We get glimpses of the past through flashbacks of ML where he and MC meet when MC is younger and they develop a short term friendship, but... more>> due to separation of path, they become strangers.

MC's good feelings turning into love isn't well explained, however the acceptance of loving a man despite being from a different era is a great step taken by the MC.

It would feel complete if ML knew the MC's past identity, but without it the plot moves just fine.

I feel like Xu Su was nothing but a redundant filler in their love story... drawing a comparison on how Gong Xi Qiao loves men (aka Xi Qing) but never accepted Xu Su's love despite being close in their student life... really not necessary.

MC's one tracked development in career is inspiring, his OPness can be explained through his upbringing. ML's loss of family was just that, a few lines. His character was not well rounded like the ML from Very Happy.

Aside from all these contradictions, it was a good read. <<less

This is my third danmei by same author. In all her 3 books I read, the ML is a cold aloof introverted business elite and MC is a beautiful, manly, independent, extroverted multitalented genius. In all the books, the romance were slow which is somewhat realistic and consistent with their characters. For me, the best novel from this author is 'Very Happy', which I highly recommend.

I like it so so much. Honestly, I've never shed tears because of a love story, but this is the first love story I've ever shed tears for, not because it's sad but because of literally, the beauty of love, the happiness that Gongxi Qiao and Xi Qing share. Unlike love in romance novels and manhwa, manhua (comics) is full of harships and pain but somehow ends up as a Happy Ending, love shared by Shao Qiao and Xi Qing is just too beautiful, too heart-warming and innoncent. The story... more>> describes the dreamlike beauty and positive of love. Though many people will say that their path to happiness wouldn't be so smooth in real life, to me, who is tired of having witnessed and read several love stories from fictions to real life occurrences where love is so painful, the story brought me back to the dreamlike world where I can view life in a more positive and less negative way. This is the most impressive and memorable thing I've learned from this novel.

I also love the story, especially the Qiao's family. They are the exact ideal parents in modern society. Anyone will fall in love with this novel given the author's positive view. <<less

Tldr: easy read, MC op, parents cute, light drama, too much putting down other countries.

Would have probably been 4 stars, if not for the overly patriotic tones. I know Chinese novels can get this way and I'm sure it's loved in China but I'm so tired of it. I really did not like how the author kept putting down other Asian countries to make Flower (aka China) seem better than everyone else. I was surprised though, that Longboot (Italy) was talked about nicely for the most part. It's not often... more>> Chinese novels portray western countries in nice tones.

Other than that it was a light romance, slice of life read with little drama (little more conflict in the middle could have helped the story not stagnant and saving the Bai drama for the finale would have been better). The small villians are brain dead, but that's what I expect in entertainment novels. I'm nitpicking here, but the big "villian" wasn't implimented well in my opinion. The author did foreshadow a little with Lin Li, but it was still too abrupt. More details sprinkled throughout or him showing up more in the earlier chapters would have helped.

The characters I probably loved the most were the MC parents, they were so cute and I was thankful it didn't have family drama (tired of it at the moment). Really refreshing to see a loving, normal family for the MC.

The ML is men sao as the MC said, I have no real complaints with him other than his screen time is too little, could have developed him more. I will say the MC is OP to the max, so if that isn't your cup of tea, don't read. I personally like OP MC, and I liked that he was caring without being naive, innocent, or too kind.

I also put off reading this one for a while because I mis read the synopsis 😅, it's not about someone from ancient times crossing over suddenly with MC taking over the body. He is reincarnated but kept his memory of his previous life (since he was a baby he remembered...I try not to think of how he went through childhood without being found to be abnormal, or other issues, reminding myself some plot points you can't read too much into) <<less

This is honestly such a breath of fresh air, really a breath of fresh air. So good that I am very reluctant to part with this novel. Here, we don’t have any of those starting on bad terms with family, the original body had a bad reputation in the entertainment industry, being hated by everyone etc. We don’t have any of those which earn a big thumb up from me bcuz I know just how much those authors love their MC started on a bad note so that the face-slapping... more>> can be more satisfying tsk.

Here, our MC, Gongxi Qiao, reincarnated after his death from ancient era (he was a political strategist and a very popular historical figure) into this modern era. We have a loving family! I really appreciate the family bond in this novel. Not only that, the MC doesn’t hesitate to make use of his family background/money to help his acting career which is very surprising. I’m really tired of those type of MCs who threw away their family, act all low-key to make face-slapping more satisfying LIKE WHATS THE USE OF THOSE MONEY IF UR NOT GON USE IT?

This is a very satisfying novel, we have a very OP MC (literally, he later revealed he had an IQ of 240) & we had our male lead, Xi Qing, to shelter him although our MC doesn’t really need it but it does makes his journey smoother and no one dare to mess with him. Our Xi Qing is damn pitiful, I had many moments where I thought, ‘ah I’m glad they got each other.’ I’m glad our Xiao Qiao found someone who understood him, accept all of his flaws & stay by his side cuz honestly he deserves the best in this life. I’m also glad Xi Qing found someone who gave him loves and the attention he needed. I love how the MC do all the teasing and usually the ML is the one blushing, I ‘ha-ha’ many times & found this super adorable.

To anyone who wanted to have a satisfying read with little to no drama, then you should definitely read this. At first, the cannon fodders were mindless and super 2d, I get annoyed a lot but our MC is just too powerful so who cares about them. Later, the cannon fodders approved somewhat, they started to think more of themselves instead of mindlessly throwing away what they loves for jealousy. I really like the character development of some people.

Spoiler

I think the biggest villain is the Bai Family? And Bai Qi, I really didn’t expect he liked the ML like what. Compared to other cannon fodders, he’s simply disgusting. I still feel bad for Lin Yu, just bcuz his face resembles Xi Qing, he was tortured and threatened by that beast. At first, I suspected Lin Yu to be one of the jealous people who can’t stand the MC but then I realized....I feel like he’s the most pitiful so far. I wish the author could have make him realize his dream of being a singer.

[collapse]

Anyway, theres only two extra chapter which I feel like there’s too few, I wish there’s more, I’m very reluctant to part with this novel. The day I can find myself a man like Xi Qing, I will be satisfied. <<less

Mmmmm this is very 'wish fulfilment' story, MC suffered in his previous life - then used the skills he gained/had to pave a smooth way for his current life.

As an old reader of this genre, I feel this story is pretty good overall. For the plus - minus;

+ MC's strength is believable & consistent with his character setting.

... more>> + The antagonists are still cannon fooder-ish, but thankfully not total braindead and MC / ML handles the matter quite well.

+ Both MC and ML have high IQ and EQ, their behavior and relationship are nicely written and easy to accept.

- Lots of rainbow farts (tl: author wrote/praises MC's good points over and over again through different pov)

+- Super smooth journey (*).

(*) + Great if you like/looking for easy, no-drama story.

(*) - No real hardship = No hardwon/meaningful victory for MC.

Tl;dr 5/5 good read for those looking for easy & cool read <<less

A light read. The pace of the story is moderate and it focuses more on movies/dramas MC participated in. A slow-romance between MC and ML, although there's not much excitement and sugar inducing action, it portrays this warm feeling from their daily interaction.

MC is a prime minister in his past life and presently, he's an all-rounder male god. ML seems like an overbearing cliche at first, but then it turns out that he's just a normal person with feelings, and I appreciate that he's not the typical non-smiling ice-cold ML.

3 ⭐️ Good !

This was a very good light BL read. I rated this a 3 and not higher because although I did enjoy reading the novel, oftentimes I also found myself bored- but as a whole the novel is good if that makes any sense. Very slow romance. Also don’t expect any hot smutty scenes or heavy love. There is none of that. The relationship is more emotional than physical.

*I still on lazy mode, so I would write the review later. Love this author. Fluffy, slice of life entertainment novel. Wily political advisor from ancient times is reborn as a modern minor celebrity, and uses his sky-high EQ and acting skills (honed from his previous lifetime as a tyrant-pleasing follower) to get ahead.
