The Gate incident took her entire family away.

She gave up on school and employment.

Hyun Habin, a sad non-awakened who bounced between day jobs.

One day, she picked up a powerful constellation.

[The seal has finally been broken! Together, let’s save the world…!]

“What are you on about? I’m going to have fun.”

[I am a constellation! With me, you can do anything…!]

“Anything? Then can you pay for my Netflix and YouTube subscriptions?”

[…What are those?]

“Geez, constellations are useless.”

[…?]

Anyway, her part-time job life is finally over!

She was planning to visit restaurants she couldn’t afford before and watch dramas she missed.

But the world won’t leave her alone.

“Habin! Are you really not joining our guild?”

The rich unni who keeps following her despite being rejected.

“That masked magician, why do I feel annoyed every time I see him?”

The mysterious world rank #1 who somehow resembles her missing brother.

“Join our guild. I’ll give you twice what they’re (rich unni) offering.”

Even her former classmate who hit domestic rank #1 and lost his social skills.

“No. I’m not joining! I said no!”

She thought rejecting them all would be enough, but…

“Hyun Habin-nim! We’re so sorry! The bank has just been robbed!”

“Whaaaat? Who did it?”

“It’s that infamous Hunter crime organization…”

“Damn it! Those bastards! I just want to watch my dramas!”

…Will Hyun Habin be able to enjoy her retirement life?

Good? Yes

Flawless? No

The story is simple, MC works like a dog for 5 years having lost her parent and her brother missing.

... more>> Finding out her brother ghosted her for 5 years and that she's now an awakened, she becomes determined to slack and live life as she pleases.

And thats basically what this story is about, her struggles and shenanigans trying to play hokey (or is it pokey?) in any way she can. In the process she foils villainous plans and more. It's a story that aims to subvert and make the reader laugh.

Favourite characters?

There's many likeable characters here. Jise being one of them and Dormmate later on (yeusok or something?) Oh and Ipsine lol.

Should you read it?

If you want comedy, then yes. It's a fun read. <<less

Unicorn of a FMC hunter novel with NO romance whatsoever.

It's cute and fun. It has some action scenes but it feels pretty low stakes since the main character is just that overpowered. Still it's pretty fun since they take things in directions I didn't expect at times like ... more>>
Spoiler

the grown adult getting sent to high school for that one arc lmao.

If you don't mind pronoun roulette, the MTL is manageable. Official source (Ridibooks) can be MTL if you open it in Google Chrome Web or mobile and hit the three dots then Translate. <<less

It's okay I guess. I think this novel simply wasn't for me nor was it what I was expecting from it?

Pros:

    • No romance
    • FL stays dedicated to her pledge of living a retired life (sort of. she ends up fighting anyway in every arc but not for long)
    • Focuses on her friendships with the other characters (however I personally feel like I wasn't particularly fond of any)
    • Light-hearted read
I think this story just has too many tropes I simply don't like and that's completely on me for reading it even when the premise has been laid out clearly. The trope in question is hiding one's ability and it's super prominent throughout the story as hiding her identity is crucial to "living a free and easy life." (Side tangent but what's up with FLs in dungeon/hunter stories and this one specific trope I've seen it in 3 other novels) I don't feel like the story justifies this well enough but to be fair it's mainly comedic so I guess logic shouldn't be used too heavily here.

My problem with this trope being used in this story specifically is that the protagonist is crazy OP, literally no one could harm her even if she revealed herself as the one they needed to hunt (this is even blatantly what happened in the previous round's FL where she just says her role and no one dares to challenge her). Sure, she hides her identity because it'd be a hassle and it'd threaten her peaceful life if she's known as the strongest, but like. Her peaceful life isn't that peaceful either due to how much she's trying to hide her identity...

Spoiler

she ends up being robbed of all her money at some point and plans to hunt down the main villain group for it so she can have her money back, but it'd be so much easier to regain that money or even more if she cleared a floor of the tower or something

[collapse]

She's brokenly overpowered that the power scalings don't matter in the slightest bit. If she just climbed the tower I really don't think it'd take much effort, so boom apocalypse prevented yay the end. But instead, of course this trope exists to prolong the story. I really don't like this trope because it's very much "the world and everyone in it can go die because im too dedicated to slacking off" even when it's very much in her power to save the world and aaugh. Of course, she doesn't HAVE to save the world but it's not like she's gonna be able to live afterwards either?

Other than that, I was also really disappointed with the FL and her brother (Fides) 's relationship since there was so much potential for them to be the top ranked duos T_T....... I like how they bicker with each other but it feels super off with how the FL looks for her brother for 5 years, he suddenly shows up and gives her 10 billion won, and then she's just like "welp I guess he's gonna go back to his job now" and doesn't really think about him that much when he's gone 99% of the time. I understand she thinks that he's doing his own stuff & she's too disinterested to care about his secrets & understands he won't tell her, but I wish they'd just spend some time together even just to hang out or something. She's closer in familial bonds with the two Sol siblings at this point (which is even stated in the novel)

I really think this novel should have a slice-of-life tag as a good portion of the novel is MC just chilling and maybe 5-10% is her actually using her powers/action. It's very comedic, but I don't think the humor in it fit my tastes so I can't recall any funny moments.

I really wish we could've gotten the previous timeline as a story instead. The FL seems so much cooler there, and she actually has some kind of motivation as the goal of her life. They even said the FL fought alongside her brother sometimes, so they probably have a better sibling relationship in that timeline. The FL in the past timeline seems just as unhinged.

Edit: another thing I wanted to mention although not about the novel itself is that the reading experience is pretty bad because of the website. There's like 7 ads every time you open up a new chapter and 2 videos playing at the same time that can't be paused or exited. There's this ridiculous ad that blocks your entire screen and doesn't even offer an x until 5-10 secs have passed every time a new chapter is opened. My phone overheated like crazy and my battery died insanely fast.

After five years of living an ordinary life in gate-genre Korea, Hyun Habin was chosen by a powerful constellation, the Stars of Face-Slapping. She then smoothly transitioned into living a life of slapping faces. She slapped faces in Korea. She slapped faces overseas. Even the monsters and demons in the tower were not safe from her face-slapping hand.

Anyway, this is a pretty good modern-day fantasy comedy. There is some action, but it's mostly a backdrop to provide excuses for more jokes and more opportunities for the "low-key" MC to show... more>> off how OP she is. Some of the side characters are good for a warm chuckle, like her poor regressor brother who thinks he's in a much more serious novel. And the author does a good job of mixing up the setting and putting the protagonist in different comic situations. But it really is rather a lot of face-slapping.

Don't expect exciting or emotionally resonant scenes; this is a comedy through and through. No romance so far, which is rare for a female-oriented series like this. <<less
