The wrong way to act as a villain no.1: Get rid of the protagonist while he still hasn’t become powerful.

The wrong way to act as a villain no.2: Take the limelight from the protagonist at the key moment.

The wrong way to act as a villain no.3: Make the protagonist fall in love with you, thus making him incapable of completing the final step – eliminating the major villain.

Han Changsheng, Head of the Demonic Cult, is the major villain who’s employed all three incorrect methods.

—————

As the leader of the first Demonic Cult in the underground world of martial arts and cultivation, Tianning Cult, Han Changsheng carried on the long-standing tradition of an unstable mind and a refusal to seek any treatment.

Originally, his life should have passed by quickly and simply, but one day he kicked a descended Immortal Lord off a cliff. In order to make up for this mistake, he must aid the Immortal Lord in ascending back to his position… but why does this mistake keep growing? Hey, Lao zi doesn’t need you as a younger brother, you should look for An Yuan! Don’t chase after Lao zi, you’re destined to be An Yuan’s wife! Don’t worship Lao zi as a martial arts lord, lao zi is the genuine leader of the Demonic Cult! Hey, Hey Lao zi is obviously the major villain! What the hell are you doing?!

Humor is up my alley and I think the characters are adorable! Translation is awesome and a large part of why enjoyed it. While there are a couple of chapter which bored me, overall the novel is entertaining. The mysteries and the pay-offs are so satisfying — so many red-herrings that’ll lead you astray from the final answer.

MC is a total as*hole with a marshmallow core — I love him so much. ML is practically being dragged all over the place by MC. He’s a totally reactive character and this... more>> is the first time I’ve seen an ML like him. I love it.

Romance is healthier than usual. There are dub-con elements but they didn’t go over my threshold so it’s okay for me.

I recommend this for people looking for something light-hearted that’ll force you to pay attention to littlest of details. <<less

A unique twist on the Second Chance genre, Han Chansheng must ensure that the life of his destined enemy goes smoothly after his regression to the past. The man he killed on a whim turns out to be an immortal descending to the mortal realm to experience his calamity. An Yuan’s fate was already calculated, but he was inexplicably killed before it could even begin.

The story is primarily a comedy rather than a martial arts romance. Han Changsheng (HC) is a professional... at disguise and pulling pranks. He very quickly... more>> manages to seriously and inexplicably mess things up again after barely a scene has passed with An Yuan (AY) nowhere in sight. He poses a question around this time. Why is he able to influence an immortal’s calamity like this (Paraphrasing) ? HC may be playful, but there is something more going on here than what the dieties were willing to reveal.

The story takes a more serious tone later on. Self-sacrifice honestly doesn’t look good on HC even if he tries his best. He does everything in his power to mitigate the consequences of his upcoming death. It’s rather somber to see his mentality change due to knowing his destined end at the hands of someone he has come to care for: a mix of meticulous planning, despair, deception, self-deception, and (in a very HC way) an odd touch of optimism.

What felt most off to me after the much disparaged chapter

is a slight change in the author’s writing style. They decided to mix two false scenes into the overall plot. The dream sequence I get. The differences between HC’s expectations and the actual events that follow showed how difficult it was for him to actually follow through on his tragic plan, no matter how much he prepared or how much desperate effort he put in. It made his hesitation and confusion in the next scene understandable without undermining his determination. This is a good moment even if it wasn’t well received by the readers. The real issue for me is another scene where the author purposefully obscured important dialogue to confuse the readers before a later reveal scene, which rehashes the exact same sequence without the author’s interference. I get why the author wanted us to be as deceived as the MC, but it just didn’t fit the overall story and made it seem like the author wasn’t sure how to end the story.

The two ‘extras’ make a rather solid recovery of what would otherwise be a rushed ending.

Tl;dr Not the story of the year by any means, but has a good start and some redeeming features that make it worth a read if you like the genre. <<less

I freaken hated the ending!!

Ok, I gave this story a 5 star💫 but I just got to say that the ending is a dumb one! It's a Happy Ending, btw, but just dumb!

I loved the plot/storyline and everything about this story, all except the freaken ending!

... more>> Ok, so don't get bored with ML's character. You may find him very nice and kind at the beginning, but afterwards, "after he fell down the mountain, " he showed his true self and it's really interesting! Lol! 😂😂And that's where the fun starts!

I'm so confused about the ending. Like I really wanted to see ML's reaction to when he found out about MC, who he really is, and all that he has done. But, nope, didn't get to see that. 😡 <<less

Removed one star for dragging on the misunderstanding till the end. MC is not at fault for the misunderstanding so I don't blame him, but I feel like the clarification should've come sooner, with enough time for the characters including MC to adjust and absorb what the actual truth was so the happy ending made more sense.

Removed another star for completely skipping the reconciliation talk between MC and ML. Look I know the MC is not at fault, but he lies to the ML for more than a 100 chapters.... more>> To completely skip the reveal and how the MC actually gets together with the ML after lying to him for so long made the end very anticlimactic. Their feelings were obvious and acknowledged for a while, but the biggest hurdle was that the MC could not tell ML the truth about the whole Heavenly Immortal thing. Which is why they dance around each other for long. And the author just skips it and adds a slapstick comedy scene.

Overall I did have fun reading it and it really was funny. Both MC and ML are narcissistic dramatic dorks and their relationship does bloom genuinely. Other than the ending I have no complaints. The mystery about ML's backstory was really interesting too and well concluded. <<less

Overall, I really enjoyed the story and the concept. Although I didn't understand the MC's thought process sometimes, it was a good read and funny.

Spoiler

Some might not like the ML spewing narcissism at himself in the window part, but it was pretty hilarious to me. I didn't like that amnesia magically changed his personality 180 degrees, but whatever, this is a Chinese BL. I hold this genre to different standards than others.

[collapse]

Now the ending? It felt rushed. It was a terrible case of tell not show (Like Thousand Autumns). Just stop at chapter 107 or 108. The last two chapters should've been written over another thirty chapters minimum to make any real sense. Others might say the ending was cute, but I am underwhelmed with the ending and whelmed with questions.

Spoiler

It seems like immortal ML is the apathetic version of moral ML? How do these two relate? Immortal ML just passively watches his mortal life with the MC? Why would the author think this was a good read for anyone? How does that showcase their close relationship? If immortal ML has the same attachment to his mortal life as one does to the main character of TV show, does the ML really have more than a owner-pet relationship with the MC? The time in the mortal realm means a lot more to the MC than than the immortal ML. One mortal lifetime is like a day to an immortal. How is that romantic? I didn't enjoy this part of the story and think the entire story could've been better without this strange furry reunion in the heavens. I had hoped the MC was the demon lord/God/King-thing or what foreshadowing seemed to lead up to. Two immortals who lived equally long made a lot more sense. No, he's some grass cat demon thing, basically a toddler in an immortal's eyes.

I know I ranted about the ending, but I spent the time to read the first 107 chapters and really enjoyed it! I invested a fair amount of time in this only to get let down by lazy writing from a checked-out author on to their next creative project.

Honestly this novel was very fun! The characters and the scenario itself were very interesting. The main issue I have is that the ending came very abruptly, but that doesn't really bother me too much as the rest was fairly good.

I don’t know how many times I died from the second hand embarrassment but gdi the story is just that good ❤️ I just wished we got to see more of the side characters and have known their individual stories and gotten to know them more deeply, they seem so interesting. I really liked HXS from the short appearance he made 🥺 Is there a spin-off for these guys?

I haven't finished reading this but the MC's thoughts are hilarious XD. It's the first time I see a protagonist who doesn't actually want to help the ML (he's forced to). The ML is very self-centered (although so is the MC) and nothing ever works out the way the MC wants it to so far.

I'm picking this up as a light and funny read :) So far I recommend it.

This novel was hilarious! It was a LOL moment almost every other chapter. The MC’s thoughts, responses, and verbal attacks were hilarious and cleverly written. I enjoyed the novel from beginning to end. The ending was Very rushed, but it’s okay because the amount of chapters was just perfect. It was better to have a rushed ending than a draggy and redundant one.

This is too fun to read

Hand changsheng tries every thing to get An yuan to be recognize, only to turn out that every Mysterious individual, Master, OP technique are being offered to him.

But Han Changsheng sweet words that he use to coax 10x times out of many from his sect. Creates a deep misunderstanding that made An yuan thinks that he is in love with him.

I really want to know how this plot turns out at the end.

At first I was reluctant to start reading it, but so far I really loved it. It’s pretty funny and it has some schemes. I like that there are not a lot of mysteries. It’s just the main one which they try to find out. The fact I don’t like it’s that

Spoiler

Already ch 79 and no reveal yet. Should we wait till the end of the novel till ML finds out? He has some suspicions but....

[collapse]

About the relationship till now

Spoiler

I find it pretty one sided. The ML seems to start falling for the MC through some misunderstandings, but all that MC thinks is his plan and goals, not even a sign he has some feelings.

[collapse]

It has a little angst too, but nothing serious. And one last little thing

Spoiler

When the ML loses his memories I was pretty nervous. I really don’t like that kind of stories. But this time it’s funny that his personality changes almost 180. From naive to intelligent, and from cute to something a little black.

[collapse]

In the end it’s a pretty good story if you like to laugh a lot. Easy and nice. <<less

I enjoyed it... maybe some people are just not used to gong MC... but it's different with me... gong MC is my favorite, because gong MC is often funny and has bad luck... he will end up with a mission but the mission will end in bad luck... I like this MC, HC reminds me of Lu Mo, Song Yao, and Zhou Jian... more>> Gui... <<less

I have to say, it's a decent read. The big part that kept me going is the obbious fun the translator had when trandlating this novel and the curiousity of when it's going to end. I feel like at some point author really doesn't know how to push the story forward and just throw everything to see what's going to stick which is kind of dissapointing since I was intrigued in the middle of it.

I can't say much about the characters. They are kind of cute in their own way... more>> but a lot of the character's settings left untold. Those holes make me feel like I'm supposed to know them but at the same time I don't know them? It's complicated haha

All in all as a light and passing read I think it's okay. <<less

This is actually a good read. If you love comedy, I recommend this for you. I definitely loved the interactions of the protagonists.

Spoiler

I believe that it supposed to have another 10 or so chapters before ending. I really enjoyed that fight scene in Ch 106, such a good portrayal of the MC's reasons for his past actions. That's why I'm disappointed with the ending. Well, yeah, I still loved the story, though

This is one of my absolute favorite comedies, I've laughed at this so much, so naturally, I am a little biased towards this novel as a whole, but I will do my best to give it a fair review.

So the novel is about our MC, Han Chansheng accidentally kicking lord An Yuan, an immortal god in tribulation, who is also our ML, down a cliff, and then shenanigans ensues and so on and so forth, you read the synopsis, so I won't get into that anymore.

Now I'll go into the... more>> various aspects of the novel-

The comedy-5/5

The comedy is mostly derived from the MC, and it can be quite crude at times
Spoiler

like when he stuns Lu Wenlin, one of the side characters, with a dirty sock.

[collapse]
but is really effective most of the time.

The characters-4/5

The characters, for the most part, were quite delightful, and I enjoyed their interactions a lot, the main couple was fleshed out well enough though
Spoiler

the noncon kinda took off a couple of points for me, since I don't think it's effects on the main couple were properly showcased.

[collapse]

The plot-4/5

Spoiler

Speaking of the reveal, I think it was way too vague and the ending was hurried. I really enjoyed the mystery in the beginning around Han Chansheng's effect on the fate of others, but I don't think it got an appropriate ending, since, as I mentioned, I think the ending was much too hurried, I think it should've gotten 10 chapters on it's own rather than being just concluded in 1.

If you want smth fun and light, then read it but do not expect anything deep and intricate. It is not even close to sha po lang or erha or grandmaster of demonic cultivation, but I laughed so much that I gave 1 more star only for that.

It’s not bad, but its.. okay? Not sure how to explain my mixed feelings after reading this novel.

I totally like the MC. He is quite miserable during the plot and my heart ached for him. Like his character and he is fun. Also I saw a personal development of the character.

I’m not a fan of ML.

The world and a plot were a bit boring to me. Yes, there was a nice comedy sometimes, but sometimes it was s*upid enough. And the ending... Em, it’s too short, too rushed and too... more>> strange. I would even say that it’s s*upid a bit. Dissatisfied with the ending.

In short, I’m not sure enough to recommend this novel. But, as a one time go will do. <<less
