Good news: I’ve been reincarnated! And I even have a powerful master to guide me!

Bad news: My master abandoned my sect’s matriarch when I was ten years old and ran off. Now it’s just me holding the sect together by sheer willpower.

Good news: A self-proclaimed “Number One Beauty in the World” has suddenly shown up as my junior sister without invitation!

Bad news: I was born blind—I can’t see anything.

Good news: One day, out of nowhere, I regain my sight!

Bad news: Something feels… off about my junior sister. And the matriarch too… Everyone seems strange!

When corruption and evil surged across the Five Continents, the five divine mountains stood tall, shielding the mortal realm from chaos.

One morning, You Su—a man who had been blind since birth—awoke to find himself surrounded by writhing, slime-covered tent**les glistening with verdigris. At their source stood a figure clad in pristine white robes, but instead of a holy fairy, what greeted him was a grotesque mass of wriggling, filthy flesh.

“Can you see?” she asked.

“Fairy, don’t be afraid,” he replied calmly. “I’m blind.”

(Volume one attempts a more restrained tone, but volume two starts to take off~)

A cultivation story filled with clever twists, fierce competition, unexpected romance, and decisive action—all wrapped in an unconventional narrative style.

This novel is very hard to rate—it fluctuates between a 6 and even a 9, going from a great piece of work to mediocre, back to good, and then returning to mediocrity again.

It starts off very strong, with a somewhat novel premise and an interesting protagonist. Unfortunately, the author can’t seem to decide what kind of story they want to tell.

At first, it’s a compelling mystery with some action elements, but later it devolves into yet another cultivation novel. However, the story remains engaging, and the author tries to maintain... more>> suspense while avoiding common clichés. Even when the quality starts declining, there are still intriguing mysteries, unexpected plot twists, and interesting characters. So, while it doesn’t manage to sustain the level of excellence it had in the beginning, it still remains a very solid read.

Compared to most CN novels:

- Characters stay relevant.

- Death has weight.

- Power levels don’t spike randomly.

Even after 270 chapters and multiple arcs, the protagonist is still only in the second cultivation realm out of eight - he isn’t just cruising through the world with plot armor. He actually has to think, strategize, or get help when facing overwhelming enemies.

Cons:

Unfortunately, the novel has several weaknesses.

- The author struggles with writing action scenes—most of them just involve the MC spamming Getsuga Tenshō.

- Excessive worldbuilding —for example, there are multiple chapters describing the daily life of a sect, their diet, and other mundane details. It slows the story down significantly.

Even with those flaws, this could have easily been an 8/10 novel.

The Major Problem: Love Interests

However, what truly drags the novel down is how unbearable some of the love interests are.

Out of the six currently introduced, three are well-written and engaging characters. But the other three? Absolutely terrible.

And what’s worse? The worst ones get the most screen time, completely ruining the reading experience. They stagnate the protagonist’s development and make entire sections of the novel frustrating to get through.

Spoilers regarding the worst LIs:

Spoiler

1. The Lazy Freeloader:

- She contributes nothing to the story, leeches off the MC’s resources, and treats him like dirt.

- Despite this, he obsessively loves her and ignores all the red flags.

- She’s so lazy that even when she knows the MC is constantly in danger, she refuses to train.

- Once she realizes that having s*x with the MC makes her stronger, she completely stops training and just sleeps with him instead.

- She won’t even admit it and emotionally blackmails him constantly.

2. The Manipulative Sister:

- She’s similar to her sister, except she’s colder and more calculating.

- She openly tells the MC to just wait, try and hope that she’ll consider him if she ever decides she’s done with her own priorities.

3. The Worst of Them All:

- A 300-year-old alcoholic lesbian who grooms young girls and ab*ses her position to mol*st them.

- Her inner monologues are nothing but misandrist rants and perverse thoughts about "training" young girls.

- And yet, somehow, the author forces the story to make her a heroine for the MC.

It’s both disgusting and infuriating that these two awful characters (LI #1 and #3) get the most screen time among the heroines.

Final Verdict:

This novel has some truly great elements —strong storytelling, engaging mysteries, and solid pacing.

It’s a novel that can be fantastic but also incredibly frustrating, sometimes even outright disgusting. <<less

So far I've been loving this novel. I really enjoyed the beginning and even though it did slow down afterwards I didn't really mind that. As a long time cultivation novel enjoyer I've especially liked the characters in here, take the beginning for example, ... more>>
Spoiler

you have this "young master" character in Wu Cheng (I think that was his name), who seems to be the classic young master we're all familiar with, but then becomes a much more interesting character as the first arc progresses, and I was even disappointed by the fact he was killed.

. I also like the harem. The girls feel interesting, there is no cardboardness whatsoever and each girl feels both unique and enjoyable to read about.

Because of my opinions, I also feel the need to address the other review here by reader_randnun, whos review for me seems to be too harsh on certain aspects, and on a few others somewhat ridiculous. I will start out by agreeing with one of the things said, though, that being the action. The action in this novel is not particularly drawing, and that can definitely be worked on, however because the focus of this novel is not on the action, and also due to the whole planning and general plot being far more entertaining to me then the action I can easily forgive this one.

As for what I disagree with? The takes on excessive world building and characters. Starting with the world building, me personally I actually love how the author does small lore dumps here and there, as I feel like it adds so much more flavour to this world and helps keep it from being cardboard like so many other cultivation novels are. Because of this, I think this is purely a taste thing. If you don't like it and you only really care for the action, then just skip over it. Again, personally I love how the world is expanded, and how daily interactions are kept.

Next the characters, mainly (in his spoiler) #1 and #2 harem girls.

I really, really, REALLY dislike this take. the twins are no where near as bad as he makes them out to be, in fact they are some of the biggest reason flavour this novel has. I hate the classic "love whatever the MC does" type harem girls and just fawn over him incessantly and try to get stronger for him but then do literally nothing the whole novel. The twins feel fresh, they have their own feelings, their own thoughts on the mc's harem, and their own desires. Despite that, they also (well atleast the junior sister so far, but I'm sure the same will be for the older sister eventually) are deeply in love with the MC. I really feel like reader_randnun really is just here for an action novel with better action and grander plot but not characters compared to other normal xianxias.

THAT SAID!!!! I 100% agree with his take on the third elder (#3 in his list). Her whole thing is weird, and while I don't have a problem with a lesbo character, she feels hypocritical and... just like a groomer to me. Really did not like her character and am kind of disappointed she was even written in in the first place, but besides her and the first elder + his group I generally loved the characters
