It has pretty good potential, despite there being other novels of very similar nature. My rating of 2 is targeted at the site's translators having a poor grasp of English, taking the enjoyment out of reading. It's just too clunky for my personal tastes.

If you can enjoy mtl you might enjoy this. Otherwise wait until better translators pick it up.

The story is nice without much twist and turns. 697 chapters are more than enough to wrap up the story and it's not overdone. The ending is not rushed or messy. It ends with a conclusion.

The system is very simple. The MC is OP but rarely takes action, about 3-4 times total in whole story. So not much fighting for MC.

The story mainly covers the side characters with MC as the centre. You may skip the fighting parts of those side characters and it won't affect the story much.

No romance... more>> or anything close to it in the whole story.

Overall a good and simple novel. A solid 3.5 <<less

This is actually pretty interesting. The setting, the characters and the world are rich and well developed. Only a couple of novels managed to truly capture the essence of this trope (MC being weak yet powerful inside a building). There aren't many chapters out yet but so far I can say it's a good start!

It's pretty much as straight forward as it can be. It's also nothing new.

It's your usual "transmigrated, got system, and oh surprise at the end I am actually powerful" thingy that has been done and over and over for countless times now.

The saving grace is that the story doesn't have any much of a downside and the writing has been up to point for the whole duration. There are no surprises unless this is your first time having read something of this trope.

Though if you are here to read about... more>> someone going place to place to showcase how powerful he is and slap some young master, this is not the story for you. The main pivot of the story are the side characters who get their news from the MC and do their cultivation things. Most of the time the protagonist is out of the picture. <<less

I'm honestly not quite sure what to write here.

Truth be told, I had an okay time with Heavenly Secret Pavilion. Its bare-stock writing, cliche plotting, and just mind-numbingly s*upid sense of scale were quite endearing. They harken back to the more classic age of xianxia novels, though with some of the modern twists and turns.

Ultimately, though, the novel is honestly just one big filler. Every storyline plays out the exactly same way--some 'higher power' is introduced, some schemes are afoot, but ultimately none of it matters because MC is a... more>> God.

I will say that, at least, the novel never really pretends otherwise; there is a pervading sense of worship present within the world itself toward the MC which, against the common sense of these types of novels, is actually a logical decision.

At the same time, it is rather hard to actually engage with the novel on any meaningful level. Main character never leaves--in all the 400+ chapters that I've read, he quite literally never once left the building he started in. Within the confines of the story it does make sense, but it also gets incredibly dull the longer you read.

Though the author does try to replace that sense of adventure by having constantly shifting POVs of side characters, it's not enough. There are no interesting side characters--their personalities are repeatedly repurposed, as are their goals, and ultimately it's all just... kind of boring?

Sense of scale also gets thrown out of whack, and though it's endearing, it's also tiring needing to shave zeroes from numbers constantly. Once you hear the term like 'trillions of people', you really begin to understand how some people don't quite grasp what that number entails.

All of this is secondary, though; ultimately, I just got bored of reading the same thing over and over again. Main character earns secret points -> buys higher cultivation -> ropes in bigger fish to get more secret points -> higher cultivation -> merges worlds... rinse and repeat.

It doesn't help that the main character's personality is, at best, lukewarm. If looking at it positively, you can say he's 'sagaciously wise' and doesn't want to interfere with the world's ongoings; if you're looking at it critically, you can say that he's dull, uninteresting, and wholly unchanging throughout.

If you're looking to re-live some of the nostalgia from the bygone era of xianxia novels, with a bit of a modern twist, Heavenly Secret Pavilion is a decent one to pick up. Ultimately, though, it's the same storyline repurposed over and over again, with no twists or turns of any note. Get ready to involve yourself with constantly shifting side characters and perspectives that seem to double every 50 chapters, yet ultimately none of them have a unique voice.

A solid, if dull, entry that I don't see myself finishing despite there only being about 250~ chapters left. <<less
