I give this an okay, if you have nothing better to do, tolerable. I'm on chapter 300 but I really need to say this!

Why are there many families with surnames Zhou and Liu? Surname shortage, author-san? Lol. The FL's mother and her maternal family's surnames are Liu, her father's close friend and his family are surnamed Liu, the husband of her older aunt is surnamed Liu, the steward of the royal prince is surnamed Liu, even the minister of revenue's surname is Liu. For the Zhou, the family of imperial... more>> merchant and FL's business partner is surnamed Zhou, their neighbor with the chicken business is surnamed Zhou, even the new county magistrate that replaced offical Wu was named official Zhou.

The only reason why I know who is who is because of their titles, like, Madam Zhou, Official Zhou, Third Young Master Zhou, Madam Liu, Eldest Aunt Liu, Paternal Elder Uncle Liu, Maternal Eldest Uncle Liu, Second Uncle Liu, Third Aunt Liu, Steward Liu, Minister Liu. Why? Wtf is that? Is it because they're side characters so it's okay if their names are the same? I really have to get this out. If there will be more characters in the future chapters that would be surnamed Liu and Zhou, I'd flip. Lol.

Even brother Zhao Han and his family, their former neighbor that turned out their family was the family of generals of the previous dynasty sounds like Zhou. Zhao and Zhou. For a Chinese, there's a huge difference I think. But for a non Chinese speaker like me, that's quite confusing for my eyes. What's with author's naming sense tho? If it's not exactly the same, they sound and look the same.

As for the other issues, I wonder why nobody has been jailed even tho they committed mu*der and frustrated mu*der. Like the FL's step-grandmother, she mu*dered their biological grandmother in order to grab her husband. But even after they found out, they just let her sign an agreement that she would not bother them anymore just because their grandfather begged them to have mercy. Really? Your original wife was mu*dered by your second wife but just wanna let her be for the sake of your other two younger kids and your reputation? What about your two kids with your original wife that you neglected? Though he regreted it later, that move was quite s*upid tho and the FL and her family let it. The author wanted to make them look so kind and filial that they seem dumb and let others take advantage of them. The other one was that Xia girl, the niece of FL's godmother Lady Fang. Because she wanted to be Lady Fang's adopted daughter and she's jealous of FL, she hired a couple of men to kill her. But when they found out, she just sent her back to her family and married her off to a useless and idiotic nobleman. Really? She wanted to take her life but that's all the punishment she got? Maybe I was just used to other Chinese novels with female lead that's too vicious and cruel if you wronged them, but come on! Maybe the author was just lazy for more complicated type of plots so the novel was more farming and food oriented.

And the two guys that was hired to kill her had the guts to negotiate that they would not say who hired them if she didn't promise to let them go. The was rescued by the son of Prince Jing, a first rank nobleman and the brother of the emperor and they had the guts to say that in front of him? Ancient China is the setting right? Wouldn't they tremble just with the mere sight of him with how the nobles and royal family of that time was revered and worshipped? But in this noble, I don't know. Lol.

This novel looks like something you'd found at wattpad with teenage authors. Amature and s*upid and dumb on some parts but okay if you have nothing else to do or read.

Ps: I hate the children in this novel. FL's younger brother, her cousin Liu Fangping, and the emperor's three year old kid. Noble children and commoner children, they all act spoiled and all threaten to cry if you won't do what they say. Come on, not all children are like that. Maybe I'm not just into kids tho that's why they easily bug me. Lol. <<less

I fell in love with almost all the characters. I would recommend this novel for those who love to read family drama and daily honest heartwarming lifestyle. I am fed up reading so many abusive, revenge, killing.. Etc type of storylines. This book touches my soul as it depicts humane treatment/love between siblings, uncles, aunts, parents, cousin's and friends. I don't regret picking up this novel.

I would like to convey my sincerest thanks to the translator. The translation was just awesome.????

I like novels about farming, living simple life, specially going back in time creating tools to facilitate life... I don't like when it's about royals and rich families fighting, concubines and evil stepmother and ALl that cn stuff.. So when I read the summary I hoped it will not deal too much with all that cliché.. And I was happy with what I got.. Although it begin weaker than average novels like for sometime there obssesion over food that doesn't make sense, she catch so much food every day and... more>> they are still starving, I was also worried when she started meating nobles to leave farming behind, there lots of novels start with farming or opening restaurant idea, but they throw it away after some chapters and it become typical cn bullshit.. But that didn't happen, stayed faithful about farming.. I would love if we got some chapters about historians writing or teaching a biography about her in their moder time, talking about how that dynasty affected the country and the world.. Also I preferred ending to be but more detailed but in the end very good novel, nice relaxing not stressful.. <<less

I dropped this novel. Because the father (yu hai) and the grandfather is really annoying and they don't have firm attitude at all. Their children had suffered enough because madam zhang. And they can't do anything. If the new reader read it until chapter 330 you will find it annoying. The father and grandfather said they feel sorry for their children, but didn't do anything. Its make me angry whenever I read it (part where there is father or the grandfather). I hate it, so I dropped the novel. Really... more>> such an annoying character. <<less

I'll keep this short and simple:

Things I liked:

-the MC isn't overly ambitious or cruel

... more>> - the MC has the good sense to hide their cheat and come up with a more or less believable excuse

-family fluff

Things I disliked:

-very unrealistic excuse for not defending oneself and letting people get away with taking advantage of the MC or their family (even 'filial piety', a term which I never expected to dislike as much as I do right now can only realistically go so far, even in other cultures)

-the sheer spinelessness of seemingly everyone important to the MC, including herself. Yes, I also include her godparents to an extent

-a lot of inconsistencies in the story that could've easily been avoided if the author put a bit of effort in

-the ML and how he's introduced as such. I think the author chose him from one chapter to the next cause his backstory and character change suddenly, going from a realistic royal who nearly kills the MC for a slip up to an annoying piece of sh*t who is apparently a big softy inside and so misunderstood... Honestly I could've overlooked it if this chapter hadn't happened. But I can only turn off my brain so much.

In conclusion, I've dropped this story. As amusing as around 30 or so chapters were, they can't make up for the other 236 annoying/frustrating ones. <<less

As many people mentioned, it is fukin frustrating to read about the grandma and fat aunt who take advantage of MC. Like even after they separate the family, they still get food delivered to them because the separation of family paper apparently made that a thing. Like WTF> JUST KILL THE FKIN GRANDMA. MC's family have no fkin spines, and still filial toward the grandma despite separating the family, and give in when she comes to take food/money. Apparently,

<spoiler>

She mu*dered MC's father's mother, and the grandpa accepted it... more>> by just making her sign a paper to not bother MC's family, which obviously didn't work. LIKE SERIOUSLY she killed a fukin person. And she apparently survives and move to another village. I swear if author doesn't kill her off I'm gonna drop. That's the most frustrating part, because despite knowing people in power, MC still act so weak toward shitty grandma and give in. Just get those people to blame something on shitty grandma and kill her off.

Edit: Dropped for a while now, literally made my head hurt. Just didn't bother to update this. Still shitty alive grandmother and aunt. Only person I liked is the redeemed cousin who originally caused MC's death. THAT'S SAYing a lot. <<less

I enjoyed it for a while because transmigration novels are a guilty pleasure of mine. The story is very generic but that’s okay because when I read transmigration novels, I rarely look for anything that make sense.

The reason I discontinued reading this is because of the over explanation/description of some things. Maybe the author wants to make the story longer but reading the same thing again and again but with just different wordings wears me down.

And another thing but it’s not overly major one.

Spoiler

The MC is too dependent on the mystic stone. If this cheat is taken out of the equation then she might only have half of the achievement she has now. Hopefully in the future she gets to show more of her own abilities.

Although, I can relate to their situation, eating corn mill, boiled sweet potato leaves, eating dried-fish and even eating boiled banana for dinner. When my father was hopitalised for heatstroke no relative help us.

I can't blame her when she all think is about money, because of her past life and present life are striving hard for their family. Being mature in such age with their situation are normal nowadays, it's just that some of the characters are unreasonable and shamelessly turning all over again,

  1. Madam Zhang, Madam Li, Yu Dashan, Yu Bo, are really shameless to the point that you also want to transmigrate just to kill them. Although, Madam Zao are unrelated but she also have intentions that you can't tolerate. They are dragging people down and shamelessly blame their sins to the people that they victimized again and again, all I can say is "does the writer intended to write the same situation on the whole story?"
  2. Yu Hai, and his father you can't tolerate other people because of family and filial piety. Your also a father, even Yu Hai separated from the family and eventhough they are blood related with Yu Bo. Man, Madam Zhang collected your money and didn't give for your daughter's medical fee because of Yu Bo! Yu Bo is shameless, ungrateful bastard, selfish, plastic and mostly unfilial. Didn't you realize that they are using your family to get to the royal prince?
  3. Princess Consort Jing and Prince Jing, I felt pity for your second son, it's not his fault that your body is not healthy. Eat veggies, and eat proper meals don't just acting pity and sick all the time, your so OA. I thought the ML is Brother Han or the Second Prince, that's why I ship one of them to our MC but I was wrong.
  4. Xiaolan and Yu Hang, they are the characters that I want to flow in every chapter, I seldom read about them. Story is revolving about the main couple. Even when the family was eating I can count the times when Yu Hang and Xiaolan appears.
  5. I understand that MC sometimes act like a spoiled child, remember everyone that their parents in her past life died when she was very young, she act maturely for the sake of her two siblings and work despite lying for her age. All I can say about her flaws, she's unpolite, even I how close with my elders and the people around me, I still use respectful words, however, our MC don't know how to act politely. Even she's bright, how positive, intelligent, and how the people disregard her flaw attitude, if it's reality, she can be beheaded with the rest of her family, she's not also careful enough of her surroundings, she just act like she want to be, disregarding the dangers and mostly relied on the divine stone. I sometimes called her ungrateful. I was raised by my mother, eventhough we are poor, to be respectful, be grateful and contented even smaller things. I found her sometimes just say and does'nt act, because she want a low profile but she act otherwise. She want people to recognized ger effort, and want to be a higher up, just like when, she found out that seven-official rank are the same rank with the county majestrate. I don't really understand her sometimes.
Though I love the story and recommended this to others, but I can't be blinded how the author just turning the story... more>> again and again to make it longer. Because sometimes, stories that made the author's longer, makes the story to be ruined even though it's amazing from the start. I'm not the type of person to judge a book by it's cover, for the sake of farming, and cooking I want to continue reading this. I hope the translator and auhtor will keep this up and author please don't make it cliche just be practical and make it more creative but not too much to make it a fantasy novel. Let the MC not rely too much of the little dumpling. The cat is pitiful. <<less

Really can't like this novel. It's filled with fatmisia, misogynistic ideas and lots of inconsistencies. The first two are a massive 'NO!'.

Why fatmisia? First, fatmisia is the term I prefer to use for people who hate/discriminate/are against fat people. 'misia' is a Greek word that means exactly 'to be against/hate'. I don't think terming such behaviours as 'phpboas' is accurate from either an emotional point of view or medical one. People who are fatmisic/homomisic/transmisic etc aren't afraid of certain people. They are ignorant and thus hate and discriminate against these... more>> groups of people. Categorising them as mentally ill (phobias are mental illnesses) gives them an excuse for their behaviour.

Going back to the point, two of the most hated characters from the beginning of the books are the 'fat eldest aunt and fat eldest cousin', Yu DaShuan's wife and son, Madam Li and Yu Heizi. Every description of their hateful behaviour doesn't forget to mention how 'their fat faces are so pinched together' or something along those lines. It truly makes it feel as if fat people are bad people. There is really no correlation between the two. I thought we were way past the times of fables where mean people where deemed ugly and fat by societal standards, whilst good people were beautiful and slim. There are plenty of people who happen to be fat and are super kind and benevolent. Being fat is nothing bad. Some people can't manage it as it's related to their health. Those who can manage it have no need to do so just to make the ones around them feel comfortable with someone else's weight. So fatmisic a***oles can just miss me with their ignorant and self-centered views.

Why misogynistic? Well, all bad characters in the book are women. Even if part of the blame for why the step-mother/grandmother dared to behave the way she did was bc the father/grandfather allowed her to mistreat his biological children, Madam Zhang was the only one who ended at fault for every bad thing that happened in their house and Old Yu was not far from being portrayed as a victim. In the kind of background the story is taking place, the women 'worshipped their husbands as their skies', so how could Madam Zhang dare to keep exploiting her step-son and ab*se his wife and children if Old Yu said a few words to her?! From what the story said, someone seemed to have told them that one of their descendants will become officials. Of course Madam Zhang would focus on her blood-related son, the youngest son she had with Old Yu. Every person is selfish deep down and we all want all the best for ourselves and our family and/or friends, the people we love. So I don't hate her for this bit. But Old Yu was a man with his head on his shoulders. He seemed quite competent and the author kept insisting to make him into a good man. How could a good man let his wife ab*se one of his children and his family?! Even if parents have a favourite child, that doesn't mean they'll ab*se all the others and pamper only the favourite one. That's not being a parent anymore. You can still favour the one child whilst loving the others too. The two have no reason to eliminate one another. So why didn't Old Yu do anything even when his wife did all that abusing in front of him? What kind of father and grandfather is he even? Can he be called such? I wouldn't.

The author insisting to whitewash old Yu is why I think the novel is misogynistic. The same holds true for the eldest son and eldest daughter-in-law, and Yu Hai himself. The author kept saying how Madam Li was bullying the second branch's children and how she even talked bad about them in front of her husband, but why did the husband allow his wife to behave so badly to his own family? Even if they're not blood related, old Yu still treated him as his own child and never made any obvious remarks about him being a step-child.

And Yu Hai is the most at fault for not caring for his family to the point they would have all died in front of him if it wasn't for the MC and her golden finger. Filial piety is filial piety, but you can't use that to excuse the ab*se you're allowing your wife and children to put up with.

Again, the author whitewashed all the male characters and makes it seem they had no fault just bc they had good feelings and never personally bullied anyone. But being silent whilst your children and wife are being bullied is not any better than bullying them yourself.

The one thing I have to say I like about the male characters is that even though the author transformed the novel into a Mary Sue one and all the male characters who interacted with the FL/MC fell in love with her for her 'out of the norm character', they weren't mrn who were obsessed with keeping their wives in the inner courtyard nor ones who thought women should not interfere in politics or economy or anything else. So that's the only plus I can give the novel.

Lastly, the inconsistencies are plenty. Out of things I remember are how it was not a big deal if anyone drank too much of the Divine Stone's mystic water when Yu Hai had his accident with the bear, but it was changed to them risking to burst in later chapters. Liu HuiFang had an easy pregnancy in the chapter it was first mentioned, then became a very difficult one a few chapters later where they were talking about how Madam Liu and the rest of the family couldn't spend much time with her bc of FL's wedding preparations. Fang Haolin's age is a blur all throughout. He's supposed to have been born around the time FL was 9 or 10. But then he was still 2 after the FL became an official and even got titled as a Royal Princess. Little Shitou, Yu Fan, changes ages as often as he's mentioned. In the chapter they mentioned him passing all three examinations in first place, they were still just finished with FL's wedding and he was 16. In the last few chapters the FL was pregnant with her second (and third) child (ren), whilst her first child was already 4, but YF was still 16.....

And I'm sure there's more inconsistencies that I simply forgot after so long. There's also the time line that's an absolute mess. I really never know what time we're at or what I can use as a point of reference as these inconsistencies change a person's age so much I'm left dizzy. The author talks about the 'present' of the characters, the goes off track to talk about the future, then about the past, then we go back to the 'present' of one of the characters. As for whether that present is the same one we started off with, that's a mystery.

All in all, the book's worth is only in the fact the poor translators put so much effort and actually bothered to translate such work. It must have been hard on them.

I wouldn't have hated the book if it was only filled with inconsistencies. They're not pleasant but you can still read the novel and pass the time. But the fatmisia and veiled misoginism are massive let downs for me. If it wasn't set in such a primitive time I would have also mentioned ableism as the author keeps going on about how no one can have a life if they have any disabilities. Whilst it is true that the conditions at those times didn't allow any commoners to be able to provide for or take care of their families, there's no reason this things should be repeated. On and on and on. Even though the FL's family had a few near misses, they didn't happen so there was no need to go on about it. It's not a pleasant subject, even if it was something that people think it doesn't happen in present day anymore. <<less

I had great expectations for this. But I feel the FL is too s*upid sometimes. There were a lot times where could have made better use of her knowledge but she doesn't. The thing that pissed me off very much and stop reading this novel is when she totally forgot about her elder brother who is getting constantly ab*sed.

Spoiler

He would be sent to violent crazy carpenter and forced to work there. SHE KNOWS AND CAN SEE THAT HE IS BEING SEVERELY ab*seD THERE. But she only FEELS BAD and does nothing other than going and giving some food and money and ONLY when she goes to town on some other business, NOT specifically to visit him. Even when she makes money she doesn't even think about getting him back even when she knows he is getting ab*sed there. She even sends her other brother to school and spends money on a lot of other stuff which could have been totally saved and brought back her brother. BUT SHE DOESN'T. He is only brought back when he is beaten half to death and is about to die. He was only able to stay alive because of her spiritual water. If not, HE would have died.

She also speaks rudely to her spiritual stone which has helped her SOOO many times and saved the life of her father, mother and also herself.

The third master Zhou also tries to help when she is having an argument with that abusive carpenter and tells everyone that she is like his sister and nobody can bully her. She rolls her eyes and thinks who does he think he is to take her as his sister. WTF he is helping her and she doesn't even feel thankful and acts all high and mighty.

Her background is shown as she has made great sacrifices and took care of her sister and brother after her parents died. Her character DOESNT match in way as she behaves extremely selfish sometimes. She doesnt understand THAT the era is different and people and are different. She just tries to apply her modern day mentality and judges everyone based on that. Her father, mother, sister and her whole family takes care of her so much because of her sickly body and sacrifice a lot for her. But I saw in a comment above that she totally forgets about them when she goes to the capital and remembers only when its new year.

[collapse]

She would be nothing without her cheat and healing stone. I am done seeing her s*upidly and selfishness so I am going to stop here. <<less

Enjoyable, but I had to stop at this point. Xiao Cao just encouraged someone to open a dog fighting ring, all for the sake of money and entertainment.

I found all the female characters that weren't direct family extremely annoying. I hated the God parents and couldn't help rolling my eyes whenever they assumed they had more rights to someone else's daughter.

Ofcourse every man that isn't related to her falls in love with her.

  1. After the long and arduous journey of reading Fields of Gold using mtl. I finally finished it. Though I cant say that I understand all parts of the story (cause of mlt). I can say that this story is really good for a slice of life. Refreshing and super duper long. Please have patience for this story its worth it.
  2. I also agree with ellieedeean. MC is depends on the mystic stone so much.
  3. The mtl is really not that reliable. The words are too deep that the translation gets it wrong. So I would advice you to just read the translation.

The author and translator are very talented. Slice of life, humour and pacing are done well. Although, it starts to feel a little repetitive later on in the novel. FL's parents and siblings are super loveable. Not often but sometimes characters may seem a little cartoonish or their actions may feel a little forced for the sake of plot. However, for the most part, the author is able to give each character a little side story or at least communicate their motives behind their actions/values which makes them more interesting... more>> and relateable. For me the story is an enjoyable leisure read if you have time. The downsides are not as frustrating as some other novels. The downsides for me personally were:

Spoiler

1. Madame Zhang (FLs step-grandma) who's a stingy mu*deress and the rest of the families "filialness" to her.

2. The mystic water is too overpowered and there are some minor plot holes having to do with it.

3. ML is starting to look like one of those typical jealous psychos that is only good to the FL (In his past he used to have moments where his craziness would flare up and he tries to kill everyone but of course he changes because of the FL). He uses his power to take advantage of FL (Not excessively) and FL just lets him obliviously. Just wish the real ML was one of the 10 other love interests who are decent humans and more age appropriate (age gaps are fine if both parties are adults but ML is a grown man and FL is still a kid while they haven't really done anything yet the s*xual tension creeps me out). Although, in MLs defense his qualities are probably not outside the norms of his time.

I hate that I had to rate this book so poorly. I love slice of life, food related books like this and was thrilled to find something like that after I was done with Back to the Sixties and 回到八零:媳妇有点辣. I'm more than fine with books like this where not much is happening and it's just about living life and eating food.

The problems I had were:

Spoiler

1. The part when they were already living quite well and yet, they seemed to have completely forgotten about the brother??? I mean its one thing if they were still struggling but when they were eating well and making huge profits, the brother was slowly being beaten to death at the carpentry shop.

2. They seemed to be doing nothing much with the money. They were easily the richest people in the village and had literal connections to royalty but they were still running a one copper business?? This leads me to my next point

3. For someone who already had such a gold finger, I didn't think it was necessary to get so much "outside" help. I prefer books where the MC gets to where she is on her own skills and effort.

After deciding to stop reading, I went to read the other spoilers/ reviews, I'm glad I stopped. The grandmother's death being brushed under the mat would have pissed me off so much.

Honestly, I wasn't planning on writing a review till the end, but this one incident really puts me off.

Spoiler

The incident is Lady Fang's niece trying to mu*der the FL.

That girl is a 13 year old child! All she knows is taking advantage of and being taken advantage of, if someone wants to improve their life

She has a 'concubine born' status, no birth mother to protect her and a father who regards his daughters as tools used to form connections and improve his status.

When she was sent to Lady Fang she was about 7-8 y.o. Her parents told her that if she wants to live a better life she has to get Lady Fang to adopt her.

I'm pretty sure she's also taught how to act in front of her aunt, because how else would a 7-8 y.o. Little girl know the preferences of her aunt?

She was accepted to accompany her aunt because she acted like a person her aunt likes. She was never herself in front of her.

She's never felt or experienced familial love, only how to get the best benefits for herself. In this situation, her aunt, who she depends on, suddenly announced that they adopted a daughter. The adults never tried to explain their decision or why she was not chosen for adoption.

When she was rude to the FL, the adults never tried to teach her where she went wrong. They only ignored her and shouted at her. This is classic child ab*se.

This neglect led to her having malicious intentions and taking malicious actions. This negligence and complacency of the adults led to the niece being sold to an older man, thus, leading to her early death.

The FL was right in everything she does, even when she provoked a child over 15 years her junior. The FL is only 'cute, adorable, clear-eyed'.

I really don't like how the author handled this incident and how the characters acted and reacted to it. <<less

I loved this story. There was funny bits, cute bits. I cried a little at the end.

Everything from the food to the fashion is very descriptive.

The Ending felt a bit unsatisfactory only because there were so many characters that wanted to know how their lives turned out and by the end, it focused on the main couple and kids. Their ending was great, but I would have liked another chapter or 2 on their final ending and then atleast 1 or 2 chapters to round up the lives of her... more>> sister, brothers, cousin, friends.

The friends and family are delightful and interesting.

Now, considering how the ML is 5ish years older than her, could seem pervy. However, when she is young, he doesn't think of her in a romantic sense. He just knows that she is special and important. Then in her early teens, he wants to marry her, again, because he cares about her and she is special to him. It's not till she is 14 that he starts thinking about kissing her, etc. Again, still pervy. But, this is at a time where people were getting married at 14. Until the emperor actually said that it's dangerous for women to have s*x and babies before 18, that was common. Also, her mind is 30 so she interacts with him in a way that doesn't have that innocent childishness that could have delayed his attraction.

There is a difference between their feelings and this situation in this time period and what is acceptable now. When reading stories like this, you need to remember that it is a different time. Like, they buy people. They literally have ownership papers and everything. So if you want a book to reflect your values and ideals and things like this upset you, probably stay away from historically influenced stories like this. Some of the comments on the chapters are unneeded. Just stop reading the book if you don't like it. Don't complain on every chapter. <<less

5 stars because I really enjoyed reading this novel. The story is really good but there are some inconsistencies where the author forgets something and then when it pops up again, the details like names or events have changed. The story can also be a bit racist at times like when the ML described African people in the earlier chapters.

I really like the family dynamics. I especially like the chapters after they have finally separated from the main family. Madam Zhang and Ms. Li are horrible people.
Spoiler

I love the father, Yu Hai. He is self-sacrificing for his family. But too much filial piety is just plain s*upid especially if your family is starving, getting sold or dying from exhaustion or sickness. If the circumstance didn't force them to separate, this ancient man would have watched his family die. But on the other hand, he has a lot of faith is his family especially in his daughter Xiaocao. I would say he is the luckiest father because all of his children are good, there's no jealousy or whatever eventhough he obviously dotes a lot on Xiaocao compared to his other children. Although there were parts when the children were younger that stressed me out. They forgot the eldest son, Yu Hang who was working as an apprentice. They kept saying they should take him out of there soon, they already separated from the main family and has gotten some money and enjoying good meals but they still haven't taken him home till he almost died. Wth!??

[collapse]

I also like the King here. He is a capable King who knows how to use people but not to ab*se them. He is also a transmigrator but without a golden finger. Although he knows about Xiaocao's golden finger and he was tempted to obtain it, he was still clear-headed enough that he might not be able to utilize it well like Xiaocao. And he's not a paranoid king unlike other cnovels. Although the ML Junyang is getting powerful, he never becomes suspicious and trusted both Xiaocao and Junyang. Other foodie characters are really funny.

Regarding the male lead: There are many potential leads but the real ML is
Spoiler

The Prince. Some people say he's a pe*ophile because she was too young for him. But remember it was only 7 years gap and he never tried to do anything untowards to her except to occasionally bum some meal off her family. He literally waited for her to grow up and turn 18 before he married her.

[collapse]

Good ending.
Spoiler

She didn't die in the modern times and Junyang transmigrated and they met again. I wish the author showed what happened after for Little Shitou and the princess. That was so ambiguous

The only thing good about this is the MC making bank and her relationship with her parents, after a certain turning point. Before that turning point, so many times, I wanted to stop reading this novel.

But later on, what made me drop it is the ML and those around him. The romance is so forced, and it’s like the author is trying their very best to make me hate the ML. I get he’s a prince, but first off, the royal family is known for cherishing commoners. What the hell... more>> happened to that? He treats MC and her family like s*aves, picks her vegetables without asking permission as if it’s his own house, orders her to cook him food every damn day, and is really rude to her and her family. What, the author wants MC to be his servant? That’s what it feels like.

Spoiler

Second, I hate the people around him. His mother got angry at MC and her family for ‘putting’ ML in danger when it was ML who forcefully wanted to go hunting, and then shamelessly forces MC to be his temporary maidservant to help him recover. Like, wtf? Then his steward. He cared more about ML’s injured arms than MC’s dad losing his life. I get he’s a royal, but Jesus, author really wanted us to hate ML and everyone around him. So many times throughout that chapter, I just wish her dad got hurt and MC resented him. The painfully forced romance really tested my patience.

[collapse]

Third, it’s not as big as the ones above but her grandmother, eldest uncle’s wife, and her grandfather. God, there’s no redeeming them, but the most annoying was her grandfather. It felt like author were trying to make him good but they failed so hard.

And lastly, they freaking forgot her eldest brother. Something life threatening happens later, but Jesus, I saw that plot coming from a mile away. The author clearly made it so MC’s brother stays at that horrible, abusive place until he’s so close to death so that MC can look better. I felt so sad for him. The whole time they were all happy together and making bank, I was like, “Omfg did she forget she had a brother who’s being ab*sed???”

At this point, a lot of these problems lie with the author, can’t blame MC and all. But man, this had okay potential if the author didn’t drag stuff out and characters weren’t so annoying. <<less

What could have been a wonderfully inviting novel of farming, village schemes, and family drama, turned to crap due to the unneeded romance of a pe*o yandere prince. Absolute madness. I knew he was the ML and by god I dropped it because of how infuriating he was. I don't care if it was "okay" back then to have such a large difference. Nasty. It had so much potential in the beginning with her sweet interactions to help her family. The character growth for the parents especially helped. Haaa.... really... more>> you don't need romance all the time to make a story good. Family love and care with farming is always a good read.

BUT THE ML DONE MESSED IT UP! <<less
