After 24 chapters, it's safe to judge that this is a brain-dead read. The settings given to the characters are so flawed. First of all, our FL has a twin sister who grew up poor in the countryside, but somehow when they are out with their peers, everyone treats FL as a gold digger who keeps on pestering her twin sister to bring her to events. This is an excerpt from one chapter:

"She turned her attention to Luo Xi and spoke with a disapproving tone, 'Sister, didn't I warn you before that we are not at the house? You really have the courage to say anything you want, and are not at all scared of offending anyone. Say sorry to Senior Zhou now!'"

It doesn't make sense, right? Why is the... more>> ACTUAL bai fumei treated like it's her first time being exposed to wealthy events? Their peers all come from a wealthy background, so why do they all just accept all the lies that come out of her twin sister's mouth? Mind you, she has just returned to their family for only 2 years.

Another thing, I don't know if it's the author's fault or the translator's, but the FL's age changes in the story often. Some times she's 20, other times she's 18. After reaching 350+ chapters, the author is really confused. The author also forgets that the FL is married! Here's an exerpt:

"Luo Xi grabbed her in time, looked at Xu Xiaoyu and said: 'I just have other plans, what can you do? I don't have a boyfriend, and I have the right to pursue handsome men when I see them, unlike some people who have... Luo Xi is single after all, so there is nothing wrong with being interested in others."

Despite the writing issues, I stayed to read because the romance part is so sweet and amusing. The FL and ML love each other so much and it's so nice to read whenever their romance is the focus of the story. Unfortunately, I'm gonna stop reading at c477 bc the FL decided to be an actress. It's a pet peeve of mine whenever a perfect rich all-powerful FL goes into the entertainment industry when it doesn't fit her position at all. <<less

I disagree with the previous reviewer I think most the plot lines were just ambiguous

Spoiler

like with Luo Yuyi in the end she was captured and tortured and we never see her again because there's no reason to, although I admit the storyline about her real sister just disappeared

[collapse]

I also disagree that the MC is too vicious they got what they deserved

Spoiler

they literally tried to bring her in their car to r*pe her it was justified in my eyes and her sparing the workers was an obvious thing to do they had nothing to do with the situation the MC isn't heartless but she's not some pushover to people who try to harm her. Honestly the ML is crueler compared to her he probably would have killed everyone there.

[collapse]

Ultimately I agree that it was just something to pass the time it's entertaining but there are better novels out there the quality of this reminds of reality TV tr*sh but u can't stop watching <<less

It was entertaining enough that I mtled the entire thing but it was probably the most frustrating and unsatisfying ending I could possibly have read? Do not expect plot lines to be followed through. 700 chapters and I dont think I was satisfied with a single plotline. So many of them just straight up never go anywhere??? And don't even get me started on the ending. While I understand it's a classic HE for a romance novel, I think it was a sh*t end for LX's character development. The writing... more>> was also incredibly inconsistent both for character personalities, characters actions, and plot points. Also feel like I should mention that for a modern times romance novel about rich business families, there was a significantly larger amount of off screen mu*ders/amputations than I expected? Also a straight up lack of regard for life in the main characters at times.

Spoiler

Like LX is a f*cking psychopath at times. There was one instance where she gets drunk at a work function and some shithead harrasses her while shes in the hallway which admittedly is terrible and obviously deserves retribution. Except apparently the retribution is to kill everyone?? Oh but shes still got some humanity left because she leaves the poor workers alive. Like, this is supposed to be our heroine? The person we're rooting for??

[collapse]

Honestly, the more I think about it and type out this review, the more I end up hating it? I could probably go on a long rant tearing the novel up, plot point by plot point but that would make this incredibly long. Having said that, I did finish reading the entire thing so it was still a brainless way to pass time. 700 chapters and I feel like it wasn't worth it but, if you have nothing else to do, it might be entertaining still. Just don't expect anything to go anywhere. <<less

First, I LOVED the FL's and ML's personalities. I really hate it when characters endure unnecessary things due to filial piety. The FL didn't take sh*t from anyone and the ML always made sure to take her side.

Second, I was happy the story doesn't have the kind of crazy melodrama e.g. Memory loss, gu control, inexplicable misunderstandings, divorce, etc.

Third, the story was sweet but I wish their communication was deeper. I felt their understanding of each other was too superficial.

Overall, it's worth reading.

I usually didn't have a high standard towards dog blood and face slapping novel. It's enough not to have a boring story, to have a satisfying face slappings, and to have a likable characters. But as I read the story further, some of MC's action really irked me badly.

Spoiler
    • She knew she couldn't drink alcohol but she still drank it even though she knew the consequence. Don't say that MC couldn't help it. She could reject it if she wanted. If she accidentally offended the other person, with ML's status, who dares to bully her? And you could guess what happened when she got drunk. She was almost mol*sted by the group of men. But she always got away with it since ML would come to save the day.
    • MC knew that she would always being targeted by ML's enemies since she was his wife but she always refused to be followed by a bodyguard. And the result... she got kidnapped more than once. Since she didn't want to be followed by a bodyguard, why didn't she try to learn to defend herself?
    • MC let her friend, who didn't drive a car for more than a year, drove her car in the highway. And the result... they got an accident. I know that the accident wasn't entirely the friend's fault but the point is how dare MC let her friend who had a crappy driving skill drove straightly into the highway? In the highway, you couldn't drive too slowly or too fast or it would be dangerous for other people but MC didn't have this awareness. And the worse was... MC and her friend didn't even have a driving lisence. She should be thrown into detention center because of it but she got away with it because of ML's intervention.
    • Mu Han was MC's deskmate for more than a year and he even taught her to play a skateboard. But when he inexplicably went aboard without saying goodbye, MC didn't even try to contact him to ask for the reason. It would be easy for her to get his contact information but she just didn't care about Mu Han much.
    • MC postponed her adversitement shooting because her body was full of "red marks". But instead of resting at home, she went to the filming location of her friend and spotted by netizen. She knew it wasn't appropriate to go there but she still went anyway.
    • MC became an actress just to take a revenge on Luo Yuyi. She knew the Leng family wouldn't accept her being an actress but she took advantage of ML's indulgence and almost got into a trouble in the Leng family. As for Luo Yuyi, I don't believe that she didn't have other way to take revenge on her other than being an actress.
    • MC came to the party without invitation and was refused to enter by the receptionist. The receptionist obviously only did his job but MC thought that he was rude because he didn't let her enter even though she already stated her identity. I mean, what? Did you think that you are that famous and everyone knew your face?
[collapse]

And the story was quite typical without anything new but what I couldn't stand the most was... the author left many loose ends in the end of the story.

Spoiler
    • The author introduced so many characters who would became MC's future enemies but some of them went MIA after being introduced once. And the others didn't even have a satisfying retribution, for example: Leng Yuan. Just like Luo Yuyi, he was also the main culprit who killed MC in the past but he didn't even get a retribution. Maybe MC and ML spared him for ML's grandparents sake but still... it was so disappointing. And Feng Lingye also still lived aboard although his power were continuously destroyed by ML. The only satisfying retribution was Luo Yuyi who got tortured by ML and lived worse than death.
    • The author implied that both Luo Yuyi and Mo Xiaoxue weren't MC's twin. The problem was... where was MC's real twin? MC once spoke about this to ML but then heartlessly forgot about it. And who was behind Luo Yuyi and Mo Xiaoxue? What was his/her motive to make both of them MC's twin? The author didn't elaborate about this in the end and left it hanging.
    • Who was behind Yan family? The Yan family was able to make other great families lost so much fortunes in the past, including ML. I thought this family would become another villain or something but in the end, they were never heard again.
    • What about Mr. Yu (or Yun?) who seeked ML's protection because of his half-sister? I thought he would become ML's helper but in the end? Nothing. We didn't even know what happened to him afterward.
    • So many CP were introduced but in the end, no one knew whether they ended up together or not.

Firstly, the setting and plot are discordant. It felt more like a historical novel because only then would it make sense for a daughter to be sold off and forcibly married in order to save the life of the comatose ML. I mean, who does that?

Spoiler

Secondly, our FL, despite being reborn, did not gain any wisdom or intelligence from her past. She still did brain dead things that screamed red flag from a mile away. For example, knowing she was allergic to alcohol, why would she drink fruit wine without knowing whether it contained said alcohol? She almost ended up in a compromising position yet didn't learn from it.

[collapse]

In addition, most of the characters (including the MCs) were characterized too simply. Most of them were caricatures of what we normally read in C novels. Either they're malicious to the FL for no damn reason or they're so easily swayed by any word said by ANYONE. I really hate this aspect of Chinese novels, making it seem like Chinese people are like sheep who don't know how to think for themselves.

Lastly, and this is why I stopped at C. 47, I couldn't for the life of me root for the FL. I felt she deserved to be crapped on just because her brain seemed to not work well and there's nothing worse than a s*upid MC. <<less
