It's not bad. The plot and happenings seem quite true to this genre so nothing too shocking. The author tries to keep things interesting by having the MC's family have things going on. But that all gets anti-climatically resolved about half way to 2/3 of the way through the novel. The relationship between MC and ML is sweet enough the few times they interact but the ML is gone for much of the story.

Pacing is only expect that sometimes the author goes into crazy details. Like why do we need... more>> to know the math of all purchases made by her in-laws? I do skim those parts. But on the other hand, this novel (if accurate) gives greater insight to the time period than any other novel has. The author provides breakdowns of prices, political structure, how interactions work with the selling/buying and so on. Towards the later part of the novel, it basically just follows historical timeline. And becomes very nationalistic and patriotic. I honestly started skimming. Not to say it was poorly written but it wasn't really my jam. I think the story is enjoyable enough. And fairly easy to read. Nothing too shocking nor exciting but not completely boring either. If you enjoy a very detailed period novel with marysue and garysue characters, this is a decently written take. But you have to be okay with the nationalism and patriotism (which I've read worse so it isn't too bad. Just spans a lot of chapters). <<less

Finished all the free chapters up to date and since there is no review so far I decided to break the ice with the following comments:

  1. First 2-3 chapters are not the best... (re-read them after finishing just to confirm first impression)... for some reason the meeting between ML and FL is awkward to me, dialogue is cringy and forced, ML is pushing the "love at first sight" narrative and they get married in very short time (2-3 days after saving her from drowning)
  2. Author LOVES to bring up numbers. Loves to delve into accounting when it comes to property distribution, grain distribution, buying supplies, spending or earning money almost like recording FL's gains or spends. I admit, I did NOT read that part, did not do the math to check if its accurate. Its was skippable, just checked the total given to keep up with the story.
  3. After that it got little bit better. At the beginning FL said she is not keen on farm work, BUT to my delight, the story DOES portray her farm-working or foraging for mountain goods. LOVE THAT.
  4. Has a little intrigue to keep us on our toes about who is behind her family misfortune, with more and more people appearing and not knowing who is really ally or foe. There are spies, military missions, assassins (not black clothed man walking on roofs style, more modern... I guess), family fluff, secret code messages between family members and so on. Quite interesting, IF you give it a chance.
  5. ML goes to the military 2 days after wedding, which, to me was a good choice because their dynamic is meh, a little cringe. Story oscillates between her life in the brigade and his missions at the base. Guess its pretty close since they get reunited while he was in a mission a town away...
  6. There are FUNNY moments. Recognising in-laws after suspecting them of hosting spies (treating them a little harsh) and a second later finding his pot in their house, explain that to them dear hahaha :P
OVERALL: It's OK... has potential! It's definitely NOT slice of life type of story, think of it more like a countryside superpower upgrade intrigue comedy? (maybe... not sure if it summaries all) I guess... with a little bit of romance BUT loads of walking through the forest to upgrade FL wood element power.
