Feng Wuhen is about to die, but it’s a pity that the person he loves doesn’t care. Moreover, the person he loves has someone else in his heart. Even worse, the person he loves only feels hatred towards Feng Wuhen.

***

After sacrificing himself — particularly his life in secrecy — in the hopes of gaining even just a little bit of affection from his beloved, all he got was a cold shoulder and a castigating gaze. Still, with a little hope, he almost begged, “Molan, remember to come back in September.”

Yet, as the cold autumn blew through the fallen leaves, he closed his eyes in loneliness, never seeing the person he was hoping for.

***

When Shen Molan learned of each of his sacrifices, all that was waiting for him was an empty manor, white silk banners… and a nameless memorial tablet.

Good angst, although I never really felt like MC's love for ML was justified. Not that love has to be justified of course, but MC fell deeply madly and crazy in love with him just because he showed him some kindness? And this is the life long love and devotion that would make him silently sacrifice his life just to make ML happy? I'm not really into that kind of one sided toxic love. It was shown that ML also did have feelings for MC, but due to misunderstandings and... more>> him being a stubborn ass who won't listen, he ended up hurting MC the most and I'm glad that ML lived with the knowledge that he caused ML to die. He definitely deserves the suffering that he wrought with his own hands. <<less

Are you one of those people who love reading wife chasing crematorium but get attached to the hurt!MC and end up wanting him to not forgive the ML and live his own life? Do you like tragedies that make you shed bitter tears at the complexities of love and life?

If you do, then this novel is for you.

There are two volumes in this story, one from the MC's pov and the other from the ML's pov. I can't say I really pity the ML, he got what he deserved. This... more>> is what you get when you keep blaming others without ever thinking that they might have had a reason to do what they did, or maybe they were helpless due to the circumstances. If you wanted a story where they live happily ever after (often not experiencing the full extent of the consequences of their actions) then you'll be disappointed. However, I find the ending to be quite satisfying and fitting for the overall tone of the story.

It's a short story. It doesn't take much time to read, but the way the author wrote it shows just how much thought was put into it. The author's ideas about love is something I wholeheartedly agree with.

Spoiler

The ending is not traditionally happy. They don't end up together. MC is reincarnated but realises that maybe he should get over ML and let him live his life as he wants instead of jumping in front of him like "look! I'm still alive!"

Honestly, I was very scared that the author would pair the 40 yr old ML with the 5 or 10 something year old reincarnated MC. Thankfully, they didn't. Both go separate ways, and hopefully MC will get to live a good life with his new loving parents and new friends.

The ML.... I personally didn't really feel like he loved the MC. I've always believed that if you love somebody, you'd never be able to bear seeing them hurt, even if you're 90% sure they're faking. He spent the majority of his life blaming MC. First he blamed him for being "possessive" and not letting him have any friends, even though it was actually his cold and distant nature that stopped anybody except the MC from approaching him. Then he blamed the MC for making him experience gay panic by kissing him forcefully. Let's not talk about the fact that he was already fascinated with mc's body before that, he just didn't know what it meant before they kissed.

He also blamed the MC for leaving without a goodbye, and years later, he didn't believe the MC when he said he had no other choice. As somebody who was supposed to be a childhood friend, he should've at least listened to mc's reasons before condemning him.

Did he really not see the signs of mc's hurt, pain and declining health? He did. He really did. He just didn't love the MC. I am so glad the author focused on this point too. He kept choosing anything but the MC, because he was used to the MC giving way to him. I think if the MC had survived, this would be their relationship dynamic for the future. And this is also why the ending is so satisfying to me. MC realises everything wrong with this relationship and gives up on intruding into the ml's life. Death really is the end of a relationship. Not to mention the ML had already made his choice the moment he found out something was wrong with the MC but still went to help his other 'friend' whom, btw, he owed nothing but still treated better than the MC.

I'll only say the ML was blind, the ML was blind, the ML was blind. That's it.

It was a good tragedy with acceptable amount of melodrama that didn't feel too unnatural. The characters were consistent throughout the story and didn't suffer from the ooc curse (which often occurs when characters are whitewashed or blackened). There's even a moral in the story: listen to your heart, don't treat loved ones coldly, don't close your eyes and ignore signs that are right in front of you and lastly, a person who has been cremated is dead and gone, there is no actual wife chasing crematorium.

The translations were great and immersive, the story is short but not any less painful. It's not draggy, it's the perfect length for a tragedy of this kind. The author's opinions on love are very correct to me.

10/10 for making me cry right after getting up in the morning. <<less

Painful melodrama at it's finest :')

I really liked this author's take on the crematorium trope and how they incorporated their ideas of love into the story. Even though there's only 23 chapters, the author is able to flesh out both MC and ML very well. Readers are able to understand why the main characters think and act the way they do, even when it's frustrating sometimes. The writing feels very immersive, and I got very invested in the story by the first chapter (which is always a great sign... more>> to me!). The translation was also great, which helped the writing flow smoothly even in English.

Personally, I think the ultimate highlight of the novel and what makes it a step above the rest is the ending. At first, I felt sad and frustrated but after thinking about it and reading some comments I changed my feelings on it. After reading a bunch of crematorium novels I realized I'd been conditioned to expect a certain kind of ending. Instead, this story's ending was bittersweet and I really appreciated the MC being able to make his own choices for his life.

Spoiler

I love that in the end Feng Wuhen chooses to not reunite with Shen Molan even though he retained memories of the past, and instead lives his second chance at life in peace. To me that felt like him finally choosing self-love after sacrificing so much for his love in the previous life. I think it sends a good message too. Sometimes once you mess up and miss your chance to cherish someone/something, you don't get another shot. So make sure to treat the people in your life right

A shallow tragedy that relies too much on telling rather than showing. Much like their other work No One Knows, the reason for the conflict in the relationship between our protagonists is the ML's feeling of abandonment and disproportionate sense of victimhood. In both stories the MLs fail to investigate why they are 'abandoned' and spend years believing themselves to have been terribly wronged. Shen Molan differs only in that there is an additional element of internalized h*mophobia, where he believes if he had not met Feng Wuhen he could... more>> have turned out 'normal'. Nothing about Feng Wuhen's life was deeply hidden from Shen Molan, the ab*se he endured under his parents, his confinement, his feelings for Molan, and even the fact that he had been poisoned could have been easily discovered by Shen Molan if he 'cared'. Molan states that he cares about Wuhen, of course he only acknowledges this after Wuhen is already dead, but let's be real, if Shaoqing hadn't been poisoned it's possible Molan may never have returned to Feng manor in his life. So all of the scenes of Molan filled with regret and despair just seem annoying and self indulgent. However, I think the author unintentionally kept his characterization consistent. After all, the only trait Molan repeatedly exhibited is his total self-absorption, so his performative displays of sadness make sense given his narcissistic nature. Frankly, the relationship between the two felt incredibly hollow. It's not clear why Wuhen continued to pine for Molan or why Molan felt so traumatized when Wuhen was taken back to Feng manor by his parents. At least Wuhen superficially knew Molan's likes and dislikes, whereas it's not clear if Molan actually knew anything about Wuhen at all. So, is it strange that I find it incredibly difficult to see how any of this is sad? Wuhen willingly gave his love to an unfeeling stone with a negative EQ and it ended up costing him his life. Did he suffer? Yes. Did he regret it? No. If it weren't for the soul-forgetting poison would he do it again? Probably. As for Molan, I can't rejoice in his suffering because I think he doesn't have the right to mourn Wuhen. The real tragedy is that he learned nothing from Wuhen's love nor his sacrifice. <<less

As expected from 又蓝大大, another great piece of work. I'm always drawn to his/her writing. For me, there's no one who writes BL tragedies quite like 又蓝. Of course, there may be other authors I haven't discovered yet, but so far, his/her stories are well-written and never fail to bring me to tears.

Honestly, a part of me was hoping for a happy ending (MC and ML ends up together) with the reincarnation, but still, I can't deny that this was the best possible ending for the story.

Nevertheless, it's hard to overlook the modern terms used in an ancient story setting. I'm quite particular about this because, in an ancient context, I expect the language and expressions to stay true to the time period. Unfortunately, there are presence of modern elements in this story. Regardless, I'm not expecting much from a short story. So, still looking forward to more stories by 又蓝大大 in the future!!! <<less

A bittersweet ending. Both of the characters feel real and have justification for their actions, even if we don't agree with them. I'll also say our MC and ML are definitely gray characters, with MC being a less so. It is a very complete story even with the short length. I'm also glad for the ending.
Spoiler

I don't mind wife chasing but I always wonder if it is worth it for the MC to get back with the ML. Generally, I feel the best revenge is moving on. With these characters, we see that. It is bittersweet because you wish things could end happy for everyone, but sometimes it is better to close the chapter and not sugar coat what happened.

[collapse]

Overall, I recommend the story. Good translation, good characters, good story, and a good conclusion.

I normally hate reading tragic novels because I'm already depressed on my own so why should I spend my tym reading other depressing story? But I gave it a shot since it was short.

After reading it I cried a lot and hate myself for reading it. The story is good but my heart was left broken but somehow patched up in the end.
Spoiler

that poison/curse turned out to become a blessings in disguise for MC. Although the process is slow and agonizingly painful, it became the way for MC to move on from ML on his next life. Im thinking that if he didn't have that poison/curse he would've had to drink the mengpo soup which will let him forget everything about his previous life but still end up with a broken soul. In the end although he was not able to forget his previous life, it also became a way for MC to heal his soul. Glad that MC has an admirer in the end. Hope MC will have a good ending in his second life. *Wipes tears* 😭😭😭*Blows on tissue* 🤧🤧🤧

Personally, this is a very well-made short novel. I personally like how each characters seem three-dimensional. I was only expecting to cry because of the angst but at the end, I became fascinated by how seamless the story flow is and how the story ends. I've read some angsty short novels before and most of them leaves me with a bit of a missing element - it's the feeling of the ending lacking and wanting more. But strangely, this story leaves me satisfied to the core.

Although I saw the ML... more>> suffer in the end, what made it complete for me is the added 'nostalgia' at the end. His suffering might seem lacking for others but for me, a subtle element of lifetime regret, grievance, and aging while not looking extremely rugged (also, being clear-minded to suffer more, mwehhehehe) seem much impactful than going crazy in the latter years.

I also like how the villain is created. For me, she's a perfect epitome of an

anti-hero.

Spoiler

Although wicked, her actions have reasons. I even began to confuse whether she's evil - maybe half? If it's the definition of 'taking pleasure to harm others' then she certainly did but with a proper reason that doesn't seem extreme but will make you want to root for her.
