Yu Sui and Shi Luo met each other when they were much younger. One was a pro-gamer, a widely-renowned, best of the best, in-game medic. The other was an e-sports newcomer who was just starting out. The two originally played for the same team, during which their relationship became increasingly deep.

But things did not go as expected. Yu Sui went to Europe and Shi Luo changed his in-game job to become a striker. The two belonged to different teams and different divisions, with oceans between them, each doing wonderfully …

They had become two tigers on separate mountains. The last thing anyone expected was for Yu Sui to return to the domestic league two years later. There was no way to avoid it and the two met once again.

thought about giving it 3 stars to save some face but I felt bad for my 3 star reads which were honestly better than this lol

i've been putting off reading this for months, I should have just trusted my gut feeling. sigh, initially I was going to say the romance was the weakest point of this novel but then it turns out, it was just... overall a pretty meh read. the plot was bare minimum, predictable and too linear with each and every single development. the initial 400 or so... more>> pages were pretty intense and mildly intriguing to read but after the reconciliation point, everything mellows out and is just so boring I just wanted to put the novel down but unfortunately I had already invested enough time and I need to complete my reading challenge.

but anyways I dont understand based on which aspect people put this novel on such a high pedestal, the characters were boring, gameplay was barely there, team dynamics were too stilted and the ending was incredibly boring, stiff, predictable and anti-climatic. like id like to use every word present in the dictionary with adjacent meaning to the predictable and boring. <<less

I just want to say "I want my own slag man aka Wishper, Yu Sui to spoil me". I came for E-sport, stayed for DOG FOOD and e-sport

Rating: 4.3/5 (for me).

Not my favorite e-sport novel, but it was fun. The 1st 30+ ch are mostly angsty and misunderstanding though not so unbearable but will definitely make your heart bleed. At first the author will make you hate ML, then make your heart bleed from his perspective and then later dump you into pit full of dog food.

MC is usually... more>> the type I don't like much, but in here I can't help but end up liking him too. He's cute.

I like the E-sport element a lot. The Game Fog..... I haven't played this game but it's bit different from your usually MOBA game. I enjoyed the E-sport Element and the Battle were entertaining even though a lot things were obvious and predictable too.

I also like that there were other OP player in other team too. Finally MC team not being full of OP player.
Spoiler

well, ML is OP........ too OP and it can't be helped since he's one of our main Character. Well, I like how the team didn't consist of all pro genius (in their position). Except for ML, who was no.1 medic player global and MC, no.1 striker in china, Other 2, didn't have that kind of status. They are good player but not the bestest or pro in their in-game job.

I like how there were better player in different team for different position. Like Angle sword from Saint being bestest Milk tank medic and NSN having the best sniper from last season or so and also having good solid strikers in their team.. I like how they let these two team also shine a bit atleast.

I wonder where the f*ck and what the f*ck other top player on the national or global server are doing? are they not playing professional?? I would have love to see strong good competitorsat least one from every different regions.

[collapse]

Well, I like how this one was a bit like Real guide towards the E-sport profession or community. Like what hardship one has to go through if they want to play game as professional player. It's not easy to earn money just by playing game.

Overall it was fun. I still don't get how MC and other can still pin point out sound from bushes in the game while taking, swearing and communicating with his team mates...... Maybe it's pro level ultra legend thing..... not an average gamer like me would know.

Thanks to the Translators for translating this novel ❤️. <<less

It started off with a sour feeling but you'll finally experience the sweet by the 30th chapter or so. YS and SL reminds me of the pair from I Can Do It but this has more of a dramatic flair. FOG was more focused on the development of relationships between the characters but the game theme added some excitement to the story.

Kudos at CG team for their quality translations as always. ❤️

This novel had NO right to be as good as it is. While it's not particularly dogblood, it is heartaching and fullbodied. Because the esport itself was invented for the story, I was able to actually be interested in the tactics and accounts of the game, even better than in PUBG Romance Of The Century. This also had more dramatic emotions, too, and didn't rely on drunk scenes to further the relationship. Between Whisper and Evil is the gradual growth of two youths who found each other captivating, before falling... more>> irrevocably into a pit after living together. It was sweet, it was romantic, it was sexy, it was emotional, it was passionate, and all of the side characters were fleshed out people who were genuine friends with different emotions and EQ levels. Really recommend this danmei, it's delicious. The pacing was perfect, the dramatic arc was *muah*, I want to keep reading and living set in this world! Ahh!

I really liked how it didn't particularly matter who was shou and who was gong. What was important was that they be together, their positions were insignificant and incidental. It seems like they cod probably switch very easily. I also really like shous with anger issues, and shous who are manipulative, and gongs who achieve emotional healing. So, this was a phenomenal read for my personal tastes! I could have done with more smutty stuff because the tension was always so good, but lol chinese publication rules you know. Also more extras would always be nice!

This was a total 5/5 read. <<less

10/5 starts? 5 is not enough!! This is just SO GOOD!! A MASTERPIECE!!

This story is ABSOU-f*ckING-LETLY AMAZING. Their pain, their love and longing for each other. Sigh. Some part of the story I felt like I want to cry so much for them. The story is just wow with beautifully written script and phrases.

Everyone say it's angsty. Yes it is, but it's not that unbearable to me, cause we know they always loved each other. Everytime they feel distressed for each other, I feel myself gets choked to tears. Their... more>> love is just simply outright beautiful.

At the starting we feel the pain, then it is just pure sweet fluff with little bitterness. They deserve each other and deserve every good things in this world. The plot is just right and all charcaters are good.

To the author, Beautifully written masterpiece!!

Super Highly Recommended!! <<less

Absolutely incredible! I love manman's story since i've read those years in quest of honour mine (u should read as well) so I knew that FOG wouldn't disappoint me. The unconventional thing abt this novel is that the "angst" (it's rlly light) comes in the begging, it hurts but you don't have a deep relationship with the characters yet so it doesn't hurts that much (but if you re-read it...). The main couple is amazing, you'll love Yu Sui, I'm sure you will, and Luoluo (my kitten) is such a... more>> angry baby, it's so damn cute! The side characters are just as great, we have Puppy and Chen Huo (Zhou Huo, Old Qiao, Wawa) and they don't let u be sad for even a second; for me it was like this: they would open their mouths and i'd be laughing so hard till my stomach hurts. The story it's interesting, they aren't just playing games, there's a motive, and that's why things just gets better and better at every chapter. Ah, there's another good point about FOG: the chapters are short, and this is smth I rlly like while reading a novel. Anyway, you should give it a try, u won't regret it (and if do, u can just drop at any moment!). <<less

I'm really happy with how things are unfolding, so far the story never fails to get me interested, and the flow of the story is relatively good, MC and ML still have to get used to being in the same team (because of the things that happened in the past) but their future relationship is looking promising :) and I have a feeling we'll get more sweet interactions between the two of them soon~

Honestly just really good. I had to take a break around chapter 34, and I had to reread to catch back up and remember everything, but even the parts I reread hit me like a gut punch. This is an esports danmei where both the esports and the romance felt impactful and well-written. I'm knocking a quarter star off because I just really dislike flashbacks and there's a lot of them in the first quarter of the book. Otherwise it's pretty darn near perfect. Actually it's so close to perfect... more>> that I'm going to go read something mediocre next because I can't handle this level of feels again. <<less

there's really no big misunderstanding in the main cp, just a series of very unfortunate events that tore them apart. While it hurt, they weren't unaware of the facts, even if they didn't know the full extent those 2 years of separation had on each other.

The MC is kinda childish sometimes but it doesn't get overbearing. He's also badass and clever. The angst is also resolved in the first few chaps.

Both the ML and MC and hella talented and rich. I love rich boyfriends.

I wish the author explored a little more about their families.

Overall, this novel is cute, fluffy and sporty. Enjoyed it

It’s my 1st time reading an esports novel but this was a really good romance fix (with an angsty start). The plot starts out pretty angsty with alot of misunderstandings between the MC and the ML, trust me at some point you would really want to hit the ML. The plot then ventures into establishing the E-sports team and the ML and MC amending and becoming a couple.

After the CP is established it’s just a horrendous rounds of a “Coaxing my angry boyfriend’s diary” for the ML. The plot shifts... more>> to a more romantic setting while also focuses on how the team fights their matches and I CAN ASSURE YOU DURING THIS TIME YOU WILL ABSOLUTELY FALL HEELS OVER FOR THE ML AND MC. THEY ARE PRECIOUS!!

The side characters are also to die for!! I really liked Puppy cuz he’s always so chill and I love how he teases the ML about his relationship with the MC so much. I won’t spoil too much but they’re basically like family which is so heart warming to read!! (The last chapter was so???)

Although really fluffy, I felt that the plot eventually got a little boring? As it was just the Coaxing and Game tournament kind of plot but it wasn’t too bad either cause how the author describes each of their matches is really good!!

Overall a really good read if you’re looking for Romance and fluffy stuff I give this a 4.2/5! <<less

Oh boy. I can't remember the last time I cried so much reading a book. Maybe it's because of the MC's backstory. There are parts that simply resonate with me. His emotional scars very much affect the way he reacts to kindness, and that makes me very sad.

Lots of angst, lots of fluff, lots of vengeance, and lots of satisfaction.

This is a great novel for people who aren't really into reading esports games but want a little primer in the genre, as there's way more plot and character interactions than actual gaming scenes. (At least in the first half of the novel.) Which definitely suits my taste, as esports novels tend to go over my head a lot haha! There's also only four players in a team as opposed to the usual 5, so less to keep track of both in gameplay and in team dynamics.

The main couple have... more>> a lot of drama and history together, which all gets revealed in due time. There's a good amount of heartache and misunderstandings, but rest assured that it really doesn't last for an excessive amount of time. ML really does treat MC well, despite what the initial introduction of his character might have you think. Their relationship is very much that of a doting older brother and a spoiled younger one, with the brother part getting dropped somewhere along the line.

The side characters make for great team dynamics, and the plot takes you for quite a few twists before the main couple finally gets together. I did find myself losing some interest after their relationship was confirmed, but it's not that long of a novel so I was still able to finish haha! The ML in the past was a bit more of an interesting character than present— he turned a bit too doting for me to be honest, and I missed the way he would curse and act disaffected. Like he's definitely a green flag, and he still does tease the MC to keep things a little interesting between them. Alas, I am the red flag for wanting him to revert to his old ways hahaha

Nitpick on the manhwa adaptation in how they made the MC look like some tiny skinny shou when he's actually 181cm tall in the novel and only a little shorter than the ML. <<less

I avoided this novel for the longest time. Based on the summary, I was 100% expecting that it would be a hardcore e-sports gameplay novel filled with lots of angst LOLOL. In the end, I was completely in the wrong pfft! The Main Plot: The MC (Shi Luo) finds out that his ex-captain (the ML: Yu Sui) is coming back from Europe. Based on gossip, the two have an irreconcilable relationship. So the story is pretty intense in the beginning, there's lots of mystery about the truth of the matter,... more>> which prompts flashbacks that call back to what truly happened and the truth about their relationship — which is a lot more dependent that it initially appears!

As mentioned by many other reviewers, the first 30 or so chapters of this novel are full of knives. But once the truth has been revealed, the mood clears up and the romance turns from bittersweet to soft fluff~ The two main characters are pretty interesting. We have a boy-next-door type of ML who everyone thinks is a slag man but has a soft and squishy heart. Then there's the tsundere and rebellious MC whose face is as thin as paper! The gameplay does feature a bit, but I found that aspect not so interesting this time around. Mainly because the author placed more of an emphasis on the characters and their growth.

All in all, highly recommend! I didn't end up finishing it cause I was happy where the romance left off and not all that interested about the external plot (the competition), but my view of the novel is still pretty positive. The TL is good too, so there's no reason not to at least give it a shot!

CHARACTERS: 9.5/10

The characters are definitely what I liked most about this novel. The author gives them a lot of depth and handles them consistently.

Shi Luo (MC)

The MC of this novel is a total tsundere. He's also a bit of petty green tea (and proud of it LOL). Altogether, a cutie that you can't help but feel distressed for but still want to to tease.

Yu Sui (ML)

The ML is not your usual ML. He's neither stoic or particularly overbearing. He's very doting to the MC! I actually liken his characteristics to the usual style of supporting male characters. As in, he has a lot of good points (handsome, rich, great personality, close ties with the protagonist, etc.) but circumstances blocked his happy ending because he was too damn kind. If there was another love interest, he would have lost out because of his soft and squishy heart and I love him for it T.T

ROMANCE: 9/10

The romance, despite the rough start, is particularly sweet in this novel. The main CP are both very kind people in general, and it makes the story feel more wholesome, pfft! It's not my usual preference when it comes to dynamics, but the ML's "slag man" tendencies and the MC's tsundere-ness won me over~

SETTING: 6/10

Although the uniqueness of the gameplay did interest me at first, I admit that I lost interest in the matches almost from the very beginning of the story. As a result, I don't think too highly of the set-up of the novel. It was mainly just a playing ground to allow the main CP to struggle in for a bit... Still, the detail was pretty good, and the initial cause of the main CP's "breakup" was caused by their environment, so there is some effect to the plot, even if it's not in the way I expected.

PLOT: 8.5/10

If you're interested in this novel, then read it for the romance! The second chance at love ~ Though it was more of an affirmation of love than anything else.

Spoilers:

Spoiler

By that I mean that there was already something going on between the main CP before the two year team breakup. Though it was not at the dating stage, there were just feelings involved~

[collapse]

RATING: 4.12/5

This novel doesn't quite beat my other favorite e-sports novels, but I can see why it's highly rated. I'll certainly give it another shot one day too. Maybe I'll be more interested in the gameplay knowing not to be so anxious about the romance LOLOL. We shall see! <<less

gonna preface this review by saying it took me a while to give this novel a chance. several times i've found myself reading and then pausing, and then starting all over again. but when I finally decided to read it? oooooooh boy.

this is probably one of the more intense esports novels i've read, and the payoff was worth it at the end. it isn't intense in the gaming sense — as with all games, there's only one goal but multiple ways to achieve it. because there isn't a real... more>> game (that I know of) it was honestly a little difficult to understand the scenes depicting in-game experiences. this might change with the manhua, but at the moment I haven't seen it yet. but it was intense emotionally because all these characters are young experiencing so many things at the same time and well. when you're young, everything is just intense. especially those who take games seriously.

(like, for real. spend an afternoon at an internet cafe filled with high school kids playing the same game and throwing chairs and keyboards at each other is, as one news article from my hometown said, considered mild. but I digress.)

i love how the story handled the characters' ages. it always gets mentioned in novels how athletes (of any sport, let's be real) have a short lifespan career-wise, but in this story an adult character actually took it upon himself to do his best for the kids — and that's something I appreciate so much!!!

Spoiler

plus, the story never shied away from the unhealthy-adjacent attachment/commitment shi luo developed to yu sui when he was 17, young and impressionable, and being treated as someone who matters for the first time.

that line — "back then, it was like I gave him my life" — that's... I wonder if YS ever heard SL say that out loud? lol them kids need therapy that's a very terrifying thing to hear from someone else and I'm glad it didn't affect the relationship in a negative way; it just made these two clowns sappier.

[collapse]

if I could say one thing to Shi Luo, it would be: babe, clown traits are supposed to be subtle. you're blasting the internet and its mother with your clownery.

another thing to note: you will notice a change in personality in shi luo, the ML, after about... 20, 30 chapters. he mellows out. he starts off as a defensive hedgehog who barely acknowledges anyone, even his former teammates, a friend. and that's understandable —

Spoiler

you get sold off by the first person who has ever treated you well, and though you know why, it's still hard to accept the fact that, in a way, you weren't worth the fight it was going to cost.

[collapse]

but. he starts forgiving. and I guess that's not quite something people want to see, but again, he's young and he's been through some sh**. he's on his way to recovery.

so, if you're here for the gaming aspect, or for the development from weak to strong — this novel will be a little off the mark. these kids start off strong and they just get stronger. if not for their manager holding on by the skin of his teeth on their leashes, they'd have probably taken over the world /hj.

(and I quite disagree with the assessment that shi luo is a tsundere? or maybe I just don't know enough about this archetype to tell properly ahaha but he is proud, and, as mentioned above, emotionally a hedgehog. I don't know if that's what constitutes being a tsundere) <<less

i was actually surprised that so many people enjoy this novel just like I did. It was a surprisingly good read.

yes the first 30 chapters was a bit intense and serious, but later on it became surprisingly one of the most wholesome novels i've ever read. If I actually think about it, this novel has some pretty cliché tropes but yet enjoyable (?). Very OP main cp? Ok that was surprisingly enjoyable. Very cooperative and accepting manager (& teammates) ? Ok that was unrealistic but let's gooo.

some reviews here says... more>> that this is a bit different from your usual comedy-filled light hearted e-sport novels but tbh I can't really say anything about that since I rarely read e-sport novels but all I could say is that if you're bored and in need of something to read that's not too plotty (is that even a word?) and brain wrecking then ok this one's for you. As someone who RARELY play games, this one was not hard to understand at all. So uhh starters, maybe this one could be the one to consider. <<less

First and foremost, our ML is not a jerk at all.

Second, not sure why some says that the MC's annoying, not even sure what part of him is annoying. Lol. Anyway, that's their opinion, so be it.

Third, I like all the side characters, I think they all have their own story to tell, some do have a very interesting story.

... more>> Fourth, don't give up. You might be hating ML and his decision but once you pass chapter 20, then you're good to go.

Fifth, angst start then fluff, meng and happy moments all the way!! Yay!!! So it's a treat actually.

Will I re-read the story? Probably not, not saying it's bad, but I have tons of story waiting for me to read. Ha! Enjoy and have fun! <<less

For me this is a 4.5/5 but I'll round up to a 5 because I did enjoy reading it!

Summary: An esports novel where a rookie healer Shi Luo (MC, shou) was once picked up by Yu Sui (ML, gong) to join his team as his substitute. At that time, the MC didn't care about anyone/anything except the ML and was even willing to give his life for the ML. However, quickly after signing him onto the team, the team disbanded because the ML sold off his teammates to other teams... more>> for money and ran away to Europe. Several years later, he returns to China and wants to get the team back together but the betrayed MC has some bones to pick with him! During this time, the MC actually switched to a different position, striker, and wants some things answered.

The author does a great job of making us hate the ML at first and definitely does the angst well. My heart ached for the MC because of all that he went through and the first 30ish chapters are just piles of angst. The ML also went through a lot and you really hate the person responsible for all of this, though he does get his comeuppance.

But all that angst makes when they get together even sweeter! The CP dynamic is very fluffy and endearing—the ML is incredibly doting and indulges the MC lots. Their relationship is 100% the highlight of this story

Spoiler

I laughed so hard when the MC refused to reveal their true relationship but the fans all knew because they were so bad at hiding it. The "make your husband an honest man" thing got me XD

[collapse]

The reason I would give this story a 4.5/5 is because there actually isn't that much character development. There's a plenty of relationship development between the CP but the main characters don't really have any growth. It's more like both the MC and ML are discovering new facets about the other as we as an audience do, but they never actually grow personally. Of course this is a personal preference of mine when I read which is why I still give this a 5/5.

Spoiler

I say this because we think that the MC is super immature at the beginning, brash and fuming over the past, but in reality he actually knows the truth behind what happened and only wanted the ML to communicate with him. Similarly, the ML doesn't really personally grow besides learning how to be a boyfriend. But as I said, they definitely grow together as a couple and learn how to communicate with each other!

[collapse]

One of the things I really liked about this story is that the focus wasn't on winning the championship, but rather taking down a personal enemy! Though this is an esports novel, this one is a little different from others as there is not a lot of friendly competition and we don't fall in love with side characters from other teams (which I think is common in lots of MOBA stories). The team is actually just trying to show that they are good together and are better than a certain group... It was a fresh take!

If you like esports novels, I think this is a great read! The English translation is amazing and I really did enjoy watching the CP dynamic (the ML's unapologetic bias towards the MC is great, and the confession scene was adorable). I don't think you would be disappointed in the romance or even the esports aspects of this novel! <<less
